Opis:
Age management, embedded in the wider issue of diversity management within the organization, is a response to the changing socio–demographic realities of the labor market as well as the need to reformulate the company’s personnel policy so that it allows the use of the full potential of mainly older, but also younger workers. The study contains an overview of the concept of age management. It places particular emphasis on the methods and strategies of age management in an enterprise and also calls attention to aspects related to the effectiveness of implemented operations in that area.

New Age is a multidimensional and complex phenomenon, almost amorphous, escaping the traditional conceptual formulas. And although numerous publications and studies on New Age are still being developed, it is not easy to describe this movement. Let us, therefore, reach to the sources from which its inspirations have been drawn and through their analysis, let us try to approach the spiritual plane on which New Age views have been built. Let us look a little closer to its original matrix, namely the esoteric and theosophic traditions disseminated in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in European intellectual circles, secret knowledge, known as gnosis, and also turn to ancient pagan beliefs and magical rituals, towards shamanism. Perhaps in their message we will succeed to understand the broadly understood New Age “spirituality”.

The principal aim of this paper is to offer an insight into the detail of educating the king’s off-spring in Tudor times. There is no dispute amongst most historians that the kind of education a prince or princess underwent and the religion instruction they received in their youth, are the two most determining factors which influence the future king’s or queen’s reign. Thus this paper allows the reader to learn of certain nuances affecting the royal Tudor education provided by the English scholars to Henry VIII’ children – viz. the Princesses Mary and Elizabeth as well as Prince Edward.

Zalicza do nich fragmentaryczną wiedzę o cielesności, psychiczności i duchowości człowieka starszego, trudne tematy egzystencjalne, m.in. doświadczenie śmierci i osamotnienia, zagadnienia wymagające „weryfikacji”, np. kult młodości i zewnętrzności, potrzeby osób starszych, opieka i pomoc w starości, rola rodziny, odniesienie do rozwoju i aktywności, zmiany i pośpiechu, przewidywalność i przygotowanie do starości, a także tzw. gerontologiczne tabu: zaprzeczanie starości i duchowości, odsuwanie kwestii przemijania i transcendencji, towarzyszenie w drodze człowiekowi starszemu. Ukazuje potrzebę traktowania starości jako wartości.
In the text the authoress has reflections on the state of scientific knowledge and social awareness of the topic of ageing process and old age. She particularly pays attention to the issues which are shown in an incomplete way and which should be the subject of further scientific studies and analyses. They include fragmentary knowledge of corporeality, mentality and spirituality of an elderly person, difficult existential topics, among them the experience of death and loneliness, issues requiring “verification”, e.g. the cult of youth and outsideness, the needs of the elderly, care and help in old age, the role of a family, the attitude to development and activity, change and hurry, predictability and preparing for old age and also the so called gerontological taboo: denying old age and spirituality, pushing away the question of passing and transcendentalism, accompanying an elderly person in their journey. She shows the need of treating old age as value.

Opis:
The article attempts at determining the most important factors shaping the social situation of aged people in Poland in the period 1945–89, seeking to describe, in vast amounts of detail, the demographic diversity (size of population concerned, gender categorisation, numerical amounts by age), residence (urban or rural region) as well as living conditions, health, and education status of the population concerned. Research has shown that the social security system in force played an increasing role in the shaping of the material situation of the elderly: in 1989 some 50 per cent retirement-aged people took advantage of its offer. That this system remained the basis for livelihoods of a definite majority of aged people in the 1980s primarily ensued from the extension of the farmer’s retirement and disability pension system. Nonetheless, a considerable group of elderly people (amounting to several dozen per cent, though estimates vary) received income below the minimum subsistence figure until the end of 1989 – thus remaining condemned to poverty and the need to seek for other, extra sources of income, such as assistance from family or acquaintances, gainful labour, and/or social protection.

The paper presents metal elements of garments and jewellery dating to the Late Bronze Age–Early Iron Age period (13th–6th century BC) coming from the excavation of the Beshtasheni cemetery in eastern Georgia carried out from the mid-1930s until 2014. A brief historical and cultural background, including a short description and chronology of the Beshtasheni cemetery, is given before presenting the assemblage of metal garment elements found in the graves: pins, belts and buckles, finger rings, bracelets, parts of buckles and beads, including a preliminary typology of some of these artifacts. The typology takes into account the decoration and shape, as well as ornamental elements and motifs. The paper goes on to describe the observed relation between metal garment elements and the gender and age of the deceased.

A rich and diverse pottery assemblage from the Middle Bronze Age through the Urartian Red Polished Ware and local “post-Urartian ware” of the Iron III period comes from occupational deposits discovered within the lower town of Metsamor during fieldwork in 2018. The stone architecture recorded in this sector functioned in the first half of the 1st millennium BC. The pottery finds thus represent periods from Iron I to Iron III, for the first time producing a detailed sequence for the previously less than satisfactorily documented Iron I phase. New types of pottery were also distinguished for the Urartian and post-Urartian phases.

Introduction. Bone age determination is a radiological method investigating the compatibility of ossification processes of bones with chronological ages. Aim. We aimed to investigate the use of CT staging of the medial clavicular epiphyseal ossification in bone age determination in Turkish adolescents and young adults. Material and methods. Chest CT exams of 2018 patients between 11 and 35 years of age were retrospectively evaluated for epiphyseal ossification stages of the bilateral medial clavicles (4036 clavicles) on both axial&coronal images and compared with the sex and chronologic age of the individuals in Turkey. Results. For stage 2,3 and 4 the ages of women were greater than men and it was statistically significant. For an individual classified as stage 4,it can be said with certainty that he or she has already reached the age of 18.There was no statistically significant difference between left&right sides and between the axial&coronal images. In addition, it was found that the medial clavicular head epiphyses showed a lot of variation. Conclusion. CT evaluation of the medial clavicular epiphysis ossification stages is helpful in determination of the individuals over the age of 18. Regardless of the sex, the stage 4 can be used as a criterion to make the prediction that an individual is older than 18 years.

The article discusses Aristotle’s views of old age, which has usually been opposed to Plato’s high esteem thereof. The passage on which this opinion is based is Rhetorics II, 1389b 13 - 1390a 23 which highlights many defects of the ethical character regarded as typical of old age: meanness, mediocrity, diffidence, selfishness. However, this harsh judgment has to be attenuated by considering the context in which Aristotle’s discussion is placed, his objective was description of typical negative features of an audience consisting of old men rather than a balanced and objective discussion and judgment. Aristotle, nevertheless, thinks of the old age and youth as two negative extremes which he opposes to the positive ripeness and perfect balance of mature age. He tends to regard old men as unfit for responsible political tasks and reserves for them the rather symbolic religious functions. In biological terms, he stresses the fact that old age is the time of progressive decadence leading to increasing debility and death. Thus, unlike Plato, who thought of senility as the time of severing the links attaching the soul to the body favorable to the soul’s liberation, Aristotle’s philosophy provided him with no premises for any „praise of old age”.

Among many demographic changes, one of the most evident now is the aging of the population, the consequences of which are increasingly leaving a mark on the directions of social policy. In connection with the aging of the population and positive aspects, manifestations of ageism, based on stereotypes and negative attitudes toward older people, are also more and more noticeable. Sometimes, these are discriminatory practices against older people encountered in the health sector, the labor market, public offices, and others. The research presented in the article aimed to identify age discrimination and its manifestations among older people. The purposive sampling technique was used to choose the research sample – the assumption was to examine active older people related to a large city who get involved and participate in various activities and projects carried out for them by nongovernmental organizations. The method of a diagnostic survey with a questionnaire, which included both closed and open-ended questions, was used in the research. The research was intended to help answer the following questions: do older people notice age discrimination, and have they experienced worse treatment because of their age? How many of the surveyed seniors experienced worse treatment and what forms (most often) did it take, and where did it happen?

Aim – The main aim of the study is to determine the dynamics of the ageing process of the Polish population and to present a forecast of population ageing based on comprehensive analysis of the age structure of this population. The separated components of this structure are biological age groups: 0–14, 15–64, 65 years and more. The time period of the research comprises the years 1950–2016, while the population forecast by age is presented for 2020 and 2050. The elaboration includes data from GUS. Research methodology – In assessing the level of the ageing of Polish society there were used, among others, the old age index, old age coefficient, a measure of the similarity of structures, a measure of the structural change intensity, and the median age. Score – In the years 1950–2016 in Poland there were observed changes in the age structure of the population in age groups: 0–14 years old, 15–64 years old, 65 years old and more, including a steady trend in the percentage of people in the age group 0–14 years old and a steady upward trend in the percentage of people aged 65 and over, a strong upward trend in the old age index, and a strong tendency of increase in the post-working age dependency ratio. The Central Statistical Office’s (GUS) forecasts indicate that the population ageing measured by changes in the age structure of the population and the shifting of the median age which are taking place in Poland in a dynamic manner, will continue with increased intensity over the next decades. Originality/value – The added value of the work is the use of the similarity of structures and the intensity of structure changes, which together with an approach based on classical indicators allowed for a comprehensive analysis of the age structure of the Polish population in dynamic terms, determining the quantitative nature of changes in the age structure over time, the direction of these changes and their intensity. It was also pointed out that in light of the ongoing demographic transformations, the concept of silver economy understood as an economic system aimed at using the potential of the elderly and taking into account their needs is becoming a priority.

This article concerns the dimensions of old age in the perception of children and adolescents. The inspiration for its creation was the analysis of explorations of the perception of old age and old people in society, especially in perception of children and adolescents. This issue is a significant problem because analyzes and reports on the subject, emphasize that the least favorable attitudes towards the elderly manifests indicated young generation. Children and adolescents usually speak out not very friendly about old age and the old people and build their opinions on the basis of generally negative stereotype of old age and the old people in the society. Hence, it is interesting to present dimensions of old age formed by the younger generation because they become important for establishing and building intergenerational contacts and relationships. Repeatedly these dimensions which are relying on the little benevolent and not always accurate information prevent mutual and shared communion of both generations. Awareness of their specificity is important to take action aimed at the direction of formation of relevant attitudes toward the old man and old age.

In the era of aging societies the consequences of old age stereotypes seem to be  underestimated. The aim of the article is to present the influence of old age stereotypes on aging individuals and the society as a whole, based on the available empirical data. The article begins with a definition of a stereotype and  then it analyses individual and social consequences of old age stereotypes. The analysis of the cited empirical data about the consequences of these stereotypes leads to a belief that positive changes in ageing stereotypes can result in improved physical, psychological and social functioning of elderly people and a realistic identification of their potential may lead to a better utilization of their impact in the society.
