    Opis:
    This paper presents results of application of a sequential radiochemical procedure for multi-elemental analyses for samples collected in the Arctic environment. The levels of activity of 238Pu, 239+240Pu, 241Am, 90Sr and the content of natural radioisotopes (238U, 234U and 232Th, 230Th) were investigated in soils and peats in the proglacial zone of the Werenskiold glacier and on the strandflat in the vicinity of the glacier. Results on activity concentration shows general low level of radioactive contamination. Procedure was checked using reference materials. Reasonable recoveries were obtained for almost all analyzed radionuclides except for uranium. Further work is needed to improve this stage.

    The impact of 137Cs and 90Sr activity concentrations from 0.4 to 400 kBqźL-1 and from 1 to 200 kBqźL-1, respectively, on seed germination of Lepidium sativum was insignificant; however, all concentrations of 137Cs and 30 kBqźL-1 concentration of 90Sr slightly stimulated root growth. The accumulated 137Cs and 90Sr stimulated shoot and parenchyma cell growth; 137Cs suppressed RNA-polymerase II activity, and 90Sr, on the contrary, stimulated it. Different genotoxic effects on Tradescantia clone 02 stamen hair cells were observed with comparable 137Cs and 90Sr activity concentrations. Activity concentrations of 137Cs from 0.001 to 1.3 kBqźL-1 were more effective in Tradescantia clone 02 stamen hair cell reproduction, whereas the studied activity concentrations of 90Sr (from 0.002 to 640 kBqźL-1) induced more mutations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Only reliable analytical results can serve as a basis of meaningful evaluation and protection of the environment against radioactive contaminants. So, laboratories dealing with the environmental radioactivity determinations should regularly demonstrate their ability to produce acceptable results. Since 2002, every two years organization of national interlaboratory comparisons (ILC) on the determination of different radionuclides in food and environmental samples is required by the Polish law. The aim of the paper is presentation how test materials applied in the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology (INCT, Warsaw, Poland) for the 2004 ILC on the determination of 137Cs and 90Sr in water, food and soil were prepared.

    Background. The development of effective environmental management programs requires an appropriate assessment of the current state of the environment and contributes to anticipating future changes in the state of the environment. Obtaining such information is one of the main objectives of monitoring the environment, which is subject to anthropogenic stress, including radiological contamination. The distribution of radionuclides and their ability to migrate in ecological chains and concentration in individual parts requires special control in contaminated areas. Objective. The purpose of the study was to analyze the content of radionuclides ( 137Cs and 90Sr) in soils near the settlements of the zone of radioactive contamination of the Volyn region and their spatial differentiation. Priority is given to agricultural lands, soils, crop products, which necessitates the organization of targeted monitoring of the agro industrial complex Material and methods. Radioactivity from 137Cs and 90Sr in the soil originating in the Volyn region was studied from 1996 to 2018. Radiation control was carried out on the area of 59852 ha (arable land - 38897 ha, meadows and pastures – 20955 ha). Results. A significant part of the study area has elevated levels of radioactive contamination. The density of radionuclide contamination of agricultural soils in the settlements of the region has been determined. Density of pollution of all surveyed agricultural lands 137Cs ranges from 0.01 to 2.826 Ci/km2, and 90Sr from 0.01 to 0.048 Ci/km2. Conclusions. The radiological situation in the Volyn region (Ukraine) remains stable. There are slight fluctuations of 137Cs and 90Sr, which is due to changes in weather conditions, which leads to an increase or decrease in groundwater and as a consequence - the migration of radionuclides. The most polluted were the soils of administrative districts of Manevychi and Liubeshiv.

    Artificially introduced into the environment 90Sr is highly radiotoxic, so its content levels in foodstuff and biota require constant monitoring for radiological protection. Most analytical procedures used for 90Sr determination are time-consuming, and therefore, a faster approach is needed. Employing the Bateman equation enables more effi cient exploitation of the secular equilibrium between 90Sr and its daughter radionuclide 90Y in the calculations. This article describes a method for computing the 90Sr activity concentration, while accounting for 90Y activity. The developed approach was tested and validated in terms of its applicability in everyday analysis.

    Roślinność denna może być wykorzystana do oceny stanu ekologicznego środowiska morskiego poprzez analizy gatunkowe, analizy biomasy oraz określenie wskaźnika stanu makrofitów opartego na stosunku biomasy taksonów pozytywnych do biomasy taksonów negatywnych. Makroglony ze względu na swoją zdolność do bioakumulacji zanieczyszczeń mogą być również wykorzystane do oceny stanu środowiska pod kątem skażeń substancjami niebezpiecznymi. Przykładem może być wykorzystanie fitobentosu do oceny poziomu skażenia wody substancjami radioaktywnymi. Najwyższe średnie aktywności 90Sr pomierzono w tkankach roślin w akwenach, w których stan ekologiczny określony na podstawie makrofitobentosu był najsłabszy.
    Phytobenthos can be used to assess the ecological status of the marine environment by the analyses of species, the analyses of biomass and the determination of the macrophyte index based on the ratio of the biomass in negative and positive species. On account of their ability to bioaccumulate, macroalgae can also be used to assess the contamination of the sea by hazardous substances. Phytobenthos is used to assess the level of the radioactive substances in water. The highest average activity of 90Sr was measured in plant tissues in the areas where the ecological status determined using macrophytobentos was by far the poorest.

    Research on concentration of radionuclides and heavy metals in bottom sediments of three different lakes is presented. The lakes were located in the vicinity of the National Park in the Lublin (Poland) region. Bottom sediments were collected from various depths. In all studied sediment, sample concentration of 90Sr and 137Cs isotopes ranged from 2.07 11.76 to 5.67 67.7 Bq/kg, respectively. The amount of radioactive 137Cs increased with depth of the lake. The same dependence for 90Sr was not observed. The level of radioactivity originated from natural isotopes was much lower in bottom sediments than that measured in related soils. Most of radioactivity in bottom sediments comes from anthropogenic isotopes.

    Purpose: With the end goal to fulfil stringent structural shape of the component in aeronautics industry, machining of Nimonic-90 super alloy turns out to be exceptionally troublesome and costly by customary procedures, for example, milling, grinding, turning, etc. For that reason, the manufacture and design engineer worked on contactless machining process like EDM and WEDM. Based on previous studies, it has been observed that rare research work has been published pertaining to the use of machine learning in manufacturing. Therefore the current research work proposed the use of SVM, GP and ANN methods to evaluate the WEDM of Nimonic-90. Design/methodology/approach: The experiments have been performed on the WEDM considering five process variables. The Taguchi L 18 mixed type array is used to formulate the experimental plan. The surface roughness is checked by using surface contact profilometre. The evolutionary algorithms like SVM, GP and ANN approaches have been used to evaluate the SR of WEDM of Nimonic-90 super alloy. Findings: The entire models present the significant results for the better prediction of SR peculiarities of WEDM of Nimonic-90 superalloy. The GP PUK kernel model is dominating the entire model. Research limitations/implications: The investigation was carried for the Nimonic-90 super alloy is selected as a work material. Practical implications: The results of this study provide an opportunity to conduct contactless processing superalloy Nimonic-90. At the same time, this contactless process is much cheaper, faster and more accurate. Originality/value: An experimental work has been reported on the WEDM of Udimet-L605 and use of advance machine learning algorithm and optimization approaches like SVM, and GRA is recommended. A study on WEDM of Inconel 625 has been explored and optimized the process using Taguchi coupled with grey relational approach. The applicability of some evolutionary algorithm like random forest, M5P, and SVM also tested to evaluate the WEDM of Udimet-L605.The fuzzy- inference and BP-ANN approached is used to evaluate the WEDM process. The multi-objective optimization using ratio analysis approach has been utilized to evaluate the WEDM of high carbon & chromium steel. But this current research work proposed the use of SVM, GP and ANN methods to evaluate the WEDM of Nimonic-90.
