Opis:
We studied changes of morphology and magnetic properties of Co/Cu multilayered nanowires, electrodeposited in polycarbonate membranes, as a function of Cu layer thickness. The morphology and structure of wire assemblies with an average diameter of 200 nm and length of 10 μ m, investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy techniques, revealed polycrystalline structure of Cu and Co layers with smooth lateral surface of nanowires. Overdeposited nanowires created caps which showed flower-like dendrites with shape changing as a function of Cu thickness and electrodeposition parameters. Chemical composition of Co and Cu nanowires analysed by energy dispersive spectroscopy and proton induced X-ray emission showed Cu nanowires free from Co atoms while in Co nanowires, Cu contamination with concentration below 10% was observed. The oxidation traces observed in single-component Cu nanowires did not appear in multilayered nanowires. Magnetic measurements indicated easy axis of magnetization in membrane plane for nanowires with Cu thickness smaller than 20 nm, whereas for larger Cu thicknesses isotropic orientation of magnetization was observed. The presence of Cu atoms in single-component Co nanowires resulted in the appearance of magnetic anisotropy with easy axis along nanowire axis and the increase of coercivity value.

Opis:
Iron-molybdenum silica mesoporous materials were obtained by the application of direct hydrothermal method. The influence of high temperature samples reduction in the $H_2$ flow on their structural and magnetic properties was studied. Four samples with different metal contents relative to silica were investigated. The study was carried out by means of X-ray diffraction, $\text{}^{57}Fe$ Mössbauer spectroscopy and the temperature programmed reduction method. With an increasing metals content, primary pores of MCM-41 transformed into the bottle-like pores, and then into the slit-like ones. Reduction and heat treatment caused the α-Fe, $Fe_2Mo$, and Fe-Mo alloy formation. Iron and molybdenum atoms after being released into the silica matrix, where they were embedded, create clusters or crystallites. It was observed that the high temperature reduction caused partial transformation of highly dispersed Fe-Mo oxides species initially embedded in silica walls into crystallites big enough to give magnetic sextet component in the Mössbauer spectra.

Opis:
Temperature dependence of the free-volume of voids in hexadecane (HXD) confined in the 3 nm silica gel pores (Develosil-30) was measured by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. Different amount of HXD was filled into the pores of matrix. The anomalous thermal expansion was observed in the partially filled pores with extremely low filling. The thermal expansion coefficient of free-volume voids in this solidified HXD layer has a negative sign at temperatures below 180 K compared to high- or full-filled pores of silica gel. At these temperatures, the positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy measurements demonstrate the appearance of a new type of the free volume within HXD which has been interpreted as the cracks in the HXD layer on the inner walls of matrix cavities. The differential scanning calorimetry method confirmed that the processes were enacted within pores and not on the outer surfaces of silica gel grains. In the sample with the extremely low filling, only the one HXD solidification/melting effect connected with confined states is manifested.

Nanoarrays of Co nanorods were formed by means of electrochemical deposition in the nanoporous $SiO_2//n-Si$ templates. Structure and magnetic properties at room temperatures were studied by means of atomic force and scanning electron microscopies, vibrating sample magnetometry. The presence of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy component at room temperature makes Co nanorods in the nanoporous $SiO_2//n-Si$ templates promising for nanoelectronic devices and biomedical applications.

Opis:
In this paper porous and as-grown GaN metal-semiconductor-metal photodiodes with Ni contact electrodes were fabricated. Structural and optical properties were studied of the both samples. Both detectors show a sharp cut-off wavelength at 370 nm, with a maximum responsivity of 0.14 A/W and 0.065 A/W achieved at 360 nm for porous GaN and as-grown metal-semiconductor-metal photodetectors, respectively. The metal-semiconductor-metal photodiode based on porous GaN shows enhanced twice magnitude of responsivity relative to the as-grown GaN metal-semiconductor-metal photodiode. Enhancement of responsivity can be attributed to the relaxation of stress and reduction of surface pit density in the porous sample. The porous sample showed a significantly low dark current at 5 V as compared to as grown sample.

Opis:
Black porous silicon is a new material with low light reflectance and high light absorbance values. Black porous silicon layers are especially useful and important in solar energy conversion. In this work black porous silicon plates were prepared by wet chemical metal-assisted method. Silver and gold nanoparticles were precipitated from colloidal silver nitrate and chloroauric acid solutions. Obtained black porous silicon samples with precipitated nanoparticles were investigated by scanning electron microscope combined with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer, ultraviolet and visible light spectrometer, the Fourier transformation infrared spectrometer. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis have revealed the presence of silver and gold nanoparticles on black porous silicon surface. Silver nanoparticles size varied from 30 to 100 nm, gold - from 20 to 70 nm. During UV-VIS analysis significant changes in reflectance of processed black porous silicon samples were obtained. Reflectance of black porous silicon samples was lower than 10%. The Fourier transform infrared analysis has revealed decrease in reflectance in far infrared region. Changes in the Fourier transform infrared spectra in "fingerprint" zone prove modification of the surface of black porous silicon layers after precipitation of metal nanoparticles.

Photoresponse of silicon samples containing porous structures have been studied under the action of $CO_2$ laser radiation. The signal shape and its behavior under the applied bias voltage revealed the existence of two heterojunctions on the border of porous-crystalline silicon and on the border between the porous layers of different porosity. The photosignal is recognized to be composed of hot hole photoemfs induced across the heterojunctions.

Opis:
Two types of the silica materials were used for the preparation of iron oxides. The MCM-48 type silica support and wide-pore silica gel were impregnated with iron nitrates. The samples were investigated by the nitrogen adsorption/desorption method, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and $\text{}^{57}Fe$ Mössbauer spectroscopy. Redox properties were studied by the temperature programmed reduction method. Strongly dispersed hematite was evidenced on the supports. An application of the MCM-48 silica mesoporous materials led to the development of the oxide phases within the ordered porous structure. The detailed temperature programmed reduction studies evidenced slight differences of the redox properties of the species located within the silica templates and after their removal. Magnetic properties of iron oxides were related to the porous structure of the silica supports. The Mössbauer study of high surface area materials Fe/$SiO_{2}$ and Fe/MCM-48 type silicate templates revealed existence of ferro- and superparamagnetic phases. The relative contribution of the superparamagnetic doublet component in Mössbauer spectra is 15% and 80% for Fe/$SiO_{2}$/c and Fe/MCM-48/c samples, respectively.

Exciton spin decay is studied in a self-assembled InAs/GaAs quantum dot. The spin relaxation results from an interplay of two factors: the Bir-Pikus Hamiltonian and the short-range exchange interaction, leading to one and two phonon assisted transitions. We establish a hierarchy between the resulting transition rates and show the dominating role of transverse phonons for all the transitions.
