Opis:
While working on architectural visualizations, the software developer often has to work with graphic designers who create models in a different environment what can cause many complications. For this reason, it is very important to have some guidelines which can protect both the developer and the designer from commixing mistakes. The paper presents a list of such guidelines based on the authors’ experience. The reader can treat the paper as a first step in the development of a service based on cloud computing that verifies the correctness of graphical data in urban visualizations.

This paper deals with problems that are related to a feature extraction from 3D objects. The main aim of the feature extraction is to describe a shape of 3D object by a feature vector. Then the elements of this feature vector characterize the shape of the own 3D objects and they can serve as a key in searching for similar models. In this paper are introduced current methods for the feature extraction of 3D models and their classification. These methods are based on different mathematical background and according to that they are separated into several groups.

Opis:
The present model allows for simultaneous computations of depth-variable longshore currents and undertows, being the two most important components of coastal flows, at arbitrarily chosen locations of the nearshore zone, with the assumption of parallel isobaths. In the model, the flow velocities are calculated as functions of energy dissipation due to wave breaking. In the description of the wave-breaking, the effect of a roller has been taken into account. As a result of interaction of the cross-shore and longshore currents, a spiral-like resultant velocity vector appears, variable over water depth. The comparisons of calculated and measured vertical distributions of water flow velocity for conditions of the campaigns "Lubiatowo 87" and "Lubiatowo 96" have shown good conformity between experimental data and the present model.

Opis:
Thermal processes in the domain of a human forearm are considered. The external surface of forearm is in the direct thermal contact with the environment. The steady state problem is considered. From the mathematical point of view, the task is described by the system of the Poisson-type equations, the boundary conditions given on the contact surface between tissue sub-domains, the boundary conditions determining heat transfer between blood vessels and tissue and the boundary conditions on the external surface of the system. The non-homogeneous forearm domain is reconstructed as accurately as possible (3D task). At the stage of numerical modelling, the finite element method has been used. In the final part of the paper the example of computations is presented.

The question is where is the frontier between quality of 3d model and a value for money of the completed print? Is it always necessary to create as good model as possible? This paper will focus on preparation of 3d models, based on primitives and will show connection between quality of mesh, its size and deviations and quality of obtained samples, in same manufacturing conditions.

In this paper shown three-dimensional model of composite hard anodic layer modified by carbon particles. Modifications were carried by vacuum sublimation by a graphite electrode. The modified layer is characterized by improved tribological properties (friction coefficient) compared to the unmodified layer. Test conditions and values of the coefficients of friction are presented for the combination of pin-on-disc pair in T-01M tester. The 3D model was made in parametric CAD program Solid Edge v19 pl, which allows to explain the decrease in the coefficient of friction.

Opis:
In this paper, the vibration analysis in terms of modal and harmonic responses are investigated for the power station structure of Kenyir Dam in Terengganu, Malaysia. Modal analysis is carried out to provide the dynamic characteristics of the power station which includes the natural frequencies and mode shapes. Meanwhile, the harmonic response analysis is performed by applying the force to the structure to obtain the Frequency Response Function (FRF) in certain range of frequencies. A real scale threedimensional (3D) model of the Kenyir Dam power station is constructed using Solid Works software and imported to ANSYS software for the Finite Element (FE) analysis. A proper boundary condition is taken into consideration to demonstrate the real behaviour of the power station structure. From the results, six most significant natural frequencies and mode shapes including the FRF in all three axes are selected. The highest natural frequency value occurred at 5.4 Hz with the maximum deflection of 0.90361 m in the z axis direction. This value is important in order to verify whether the structure can overcome the resonance phenomenon from the external disturbance forces in the future.

Opis:
Existing methods for visualizing underwater objects in three dimensions are usually based on displaying the imaged objects either as unorganised point sets or in the form of edges connecting the points in a trivial way. To allow the researcher to recognise more details and characteristic features of an investigated object, the visualization quality may be improved by transforming the unordered point clouds into higher order structures. There are many algorithms for constructing meshes from point clouds, some of which are more suited to processing data obtained from particular sources. This article presents the application of several methods for generating 3D models from point clouds for the purpose of reconstructing underwater objects, such as shipwrecks. The article presents the results obtained with each method and discusses possible ways of improving the quality of produced meshes.

The paper describes an initial approach adopted by the authors to create a system usable to monitor the road surface deformations in time and to model them in the 3D environment. To obtain measured data a 2D laser scanner is used to measure a distance of the real environment points. The main part of the paper deals with the derivation of formulas used by a measurement unit to calculate the point coordinates. The formulas result from and reflex a method of 3D measurement using an accelerometer and a gyroscope. The practical experiments have confirmed the ability of the measurement unit to scan the road deformation and the surrounding environment.

Photogrammetry has been a part of the curriculum of archaeologists since the early days of photography. This method of obtaining reliable information from non-contact imaging for the purpose of recording, measuring, analyzing and representation of archaeological artefacts is, due to recent advances in imaging techniques and computer technology, going through a renaissance. The history of the method in general terms is discussed in this paper. The authors present new perspectives on current areas of research, including workflows, the use of different hardware and software, and “guerrilla photogrammetry”. Furthermore, the authors propose future directions for the development of the field, like using Smartphones, immersive images, truly virtual museums, and public engagement.

Opis:
This paper presents two triaxial finite element (FE) models: a “full model” and a “quarter model”, representing the contact between the specimen’s rough surface and the ideally smooth and flat surface of the punch. Models have a contact zone that represents the topography of the real surface and has elastoplastic properties close to those of the real contact. The contact zone was entirely modelled on the basis of roughness measurements performed on a real milled specimen made of 5083 aluminium alloy. The developmentof the FE models, the stages in their refinement and the interlinking of the contact zone with the material of the specimen are described. The results of the computed deformations occurring during the specimen contact loading with the punch were compared with the experimental results. The possible causes of the observed deviations of the computer simulation results from the experimental ones were discussed. The models were used to analyse the effect of the specimen’s material properties, i.e. Young’s modulus, yield strength, compressive strength and material hardening, on the deformations in the contact. On this basis a procedure for predicting the parameters describing the contact characteristic in cases of changes in the properties of the subsurface zone is proposed.

Opis:
Numerical 3D parametric models of temperature and thermal gradient distribution within the Polish Carpathians and the Carpathian Foredeep are constructed for the interval between ground level and the 160°C isotherm. The model construction was preceded by detailed analysis of over 500 thermal logs from the area investigated and its closest vicinity. This analysis showed that the vertical changes in temperature and thermal gradient have a non-linear character with no regular pattern in the distribution of the parameters modelled, so a 3D modeling approach was chosen as the most appropriate method for their quantitative description. Furthermore, standardization of the thermal logs was recognized as mandatory so the influence of drilling process would be eliminated. Among a broad array of methods and their preconditions discussed, the Kukkonen-Szewczyk method was selected for the data collected in the study area. Modeling results show a close relationship between thermal gradient, lithology and petrophysical rock properties as well as a correlation between the distribution of positive thermal anomalies and yield of hydrocarbon accumulations within the Carpathian Foredeep. The accuracy of the model has been assessed as ~10%. The model was then used for discussion of hydrocarbon generation and prediction of formation temperature.

The paper describes a solution of reverse engineering tasks using the equipment of the laboratory of the Technical University in Zvolen. The first task was linked to evaluation of a wear rate of the tool used to for mulching and elimination of unwanted wood or weed vegetation. The obtained data will be used as a base line for determination of the time interval for the tool replacement. We developed a prototype of components and their drawing documentation for a single-purpose machine for cutting barley. We created the 3D model using the method of photogrammetry. The finished drawing documentation and prototypes were handed over to the company KRUP. Finally, we identified the most suitable procedures for creating a model of a part with a complex shape. We tested the techniques of editing the point cloud processing, as well as of smoothing the surfaces and automating the creation of partial geometric elements of the model. Based on the properties of the component, which is the starting point of the entire reverse engineering process and from the achieved results, we set recommendations for the selection of appropriate procedures.
