The article focuses on the system of theatre work from 10 am to 2 pm and from 6 pm to 10 pm. This system appears to be some sort of legacy, something that has been functioning ‘for ages’, something unalterable, even traditional. Thus, it is habitual, invisible and intuitive, monopolistic for the discourse. It is due to these characteristics that this system of work requires a careful examination. The article discusses the results of a survey conducted by the author in which respondents assessed the effectiveness of the traditional work system and their quality of life in connection with work.

The aim of the article is to present research findings focused on exploring effective methods for coping with challenging situations experienced by gamers during gameplay. The identification of difficulties associated with the occurrence of antisocial behaviors in the form of electronic aggression (e.g., retarding, chat-based verbal abuse) aligns the conducted research with the positive concept of prevention- resilience. According to this concept, the development of an individual’s social competence determines their positive functioning in society. The study used the cognitive-behavioral method of Aggression Replacement Training, respecting its high effectiveness in other countries. Equipping gamers with social skills (e.g., dealing with accusations of cheating in games) appears to be an efficient method in supporting the development of their resilience. The experiment was conducted among junior high school computer gamers (N=48), selected from a pool of 114 individuals; and it explored the role of ART in students’ coping strategies during challenging situations.

Properly conducted assessment aims to help students build self-confidence and develop an attitude toward effective learning but it also aims to show teachers the right path to create new educational challenges for students. Assessing the youngest children is particularly difficult, especially when it is done in remote education. The aim of this article is to analyse and present the issue of verifying the knowledge and skills of students from early primary school (grades 1–3) during distance learning. The authors of the article conducted a qualitative study before the third schools’ closure in Poland due to the coronavirus pandemic. The research question asked in the article is: How were early primary students’ knowledge and skills verified in remote education? The findings focus on the specific forms and challenges in assessing the children’s work and progress, even indicating statements about the pointlessness of assessing the youngest students during remote learning. Online assessment of the pupils was problematic due to the limited computer skills of the youngest children and the need for their parents’ support. Teachers’ statements included opinions regarding the reliability of the assessment. It was recognised that the process was prone to a significant degree of cheating.

The article analyses the communication of the National Bank of Poland (NBP) one year after the announcement of the crisis response package adopted after the outbreak of the COVID pandemic. It presents the perspective of a central bank that first entered unconventional monetary ground during the COVID-crisis. The analysis aims to answer the question of what message about monetary policy objectives may have been conveyed in communication with regard to possible interpretations of the response actions by economic agents. Misinterpretations of policy actions at the time, fuelled by the increased attention to inflation, could later contribute to higher inflation persistence. The article presents findings based on the innovative use of MAXQDA Pro 2022 solutions for textual analysis of central bank’s communication. It points to three inconsistencies in the NBP’s communication that could potentially lead to misinterpretation of the NBP’s policy actions in response to the crisis and thus affect the formation of expectations.

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), a common and uncomfortable consequence of anaesthesia and surgery, can lead to dehydration, alkalosis, aspiration, and psychological distress, including a reluctance to undergo future surgical procedures. The aim of the study was to compare the effect of Granisetron and Palonosetron on the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery under general anaesthesia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this randomised prospective study, after a full preoperative evaluation and investigation, patients meeting the inclusion criteria were taken for the study. 80 patients were selected and randomly divided into two groups. Group G received 40 mcg/kg of granisetron and group P was administered palonosetron 1 mcg/kg before induction of anesthesia. The patients were monitored in the postoperative period and PONV scores were observed at 0-2, 4-6, 6-12, and 12-24 hours postoperatively. Rescue antiemetic, in the form of Dexamethasone 4 mg IV, was administered with PONV score <1. RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups with respect to the classification of ASA, the sex distribution, age, BMI or the duration of anaesthesia, making the two groups comparable. PONV scores were comparable between the two groups during 0 to 2 hours and 2 to 6 hours postoperatively (p value>0.05). During the 6- to 12-hour interval and the 12- to 24-hour interval, PONV scores were significantly lower in patients in Group P (p-value 0.022). There was no statistically significant difference between the antiemetic rescue requirement between the group G and group P (p-value 0.152). CONCLUSIONS: This study concludes that both granisetron and palonosetron are effective in controlling PONV in the immediate postoperative period, but palonosetron is superior to granisetron in preventing PONV beyond 6 hours.

This research aims to explore the role of the board in corporate governance (CG) and risk management within the context of Islamic banking. Given the global reach of financial institutions, it is important to compare and evaluate the unique position of Shari’ah committees or Shari’ah Supervisory Board (SSB) in addressing the unique risks of Islamic banks. Using a comparative analysis, this study evaluated risk management guidelines in the CG codes of the United Kingdom, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia. It found that board were ultimately responsible for risk management, regardless of the governance structure, and Shari’ah-related risks fell under the board’s purview. An innovative blend of Western CG frameworks and Islamic principles enhanced governance robustness through the strategic collaboration between board and SSBs.

The article describes the operation in practice of UK regulations that stipulate grounds of criminal liability for the cartel offence for which the court may impose prison sentences and/or fines under the Enterprise Act 2002. Particular attention is paid to assessing the changes to the description of this offence introduced by the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Act 2013, which came into force on 1 April 2014. The first fundamental change to this description was to eliminate the element of “dishonesty” in the description of the cartel offence. That change was due to the difficulties involved in proving the “dishonest” nature of the actions of those alleged to have committed the act. Most of the subsequent proceedings involving cartel conspiracies, even when hard-core cartels were alleged, crashed against these problems. The second fundamental change was the introduction into the cartel offence regulation of three types of circumstances giving grounds for finding that an act does not constitute an offence and three possible “defences” against allegations of the cartel offence. The article assesses to what extent these new regulations are able to ensure in practice an effective fight against cartel offences and to what extent they constitute a further impediment to this task. The article also describes the director’s disqualification measure applied under the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986.

This study aims to identify what determines the use of biometric technologies in the financial applications of banks and FinTechs. The analysis uses data from a survey of 1,000 adult Polish residents. The estimated logit model indicates that the probability of using biometric solutions decreases with age and increases with the level of education and technological sophistication relating to personal innovativeness, experience with biometric technology, and the use of digital technology in both financial and non-financial areas. The work identifies the COVID-19 pandemic as a factor accelerating the adoption of biometric solutions and fostering awareness of the threat of digital technologies invading respondents’ privacy. The study demonstrates the positive impact of trust that phone manufacturers ensure the security of stored funds and data processing on the acceptance of biometric solutions in financial services. This relationship underpins the recommendation to financial institutions in the field of promoting biometric technologies.

The growing popularity of dating apps has been noted in recent years, but the nature of the user experience of dating apps is heterogeneous. The present study aimed to investigate the experiences of dating app users and distinguish their types based on cluster analysis. An exploratory study was conducted online among 406 adults who have used online dating. Survey questions investigated: motives for online dating, perceived pressure to find a partner, length of use of the dating app, usability rating, perceived benefits and well-being after using dating apps, frequency of experiencing negative events while dating, reasons for and number of deletions of dating profile. Three credible clusters were identified: “persistent” - people who are mainly looking for a relationship, have long periods of use of the app and delete it less often; “for a while”. - are those with different motives for online dating, use the app briefly and rarely return to it, and are characterized by a small number of difficult online situations; "hurt" - people with motives other than looking for a relationship, have many negative experiences and most often delete dating apps. The clusters differed in age, gender, relationship status, motives (relationships vs. other motives), pressure (pressure, no pressure).

Opis:
The study aimed to explore parents' experiences of engaging with their children's remote education during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the issues of the family-school partnership. The question posed here asks how the family-school relationship was negotiated as well as the role of parents and the role of schools. This line of inquiry is unexplored but vital to understand better the tacit underpinnings of remote education practices and the unobvious potential of parents in the schools in times of crisis. Understanding these relationships provides insights into the processes that occur when schools hastily change their way of teaching while impacting the family environment. This participatory, qualitative case study used data from open-ended questions in an electronic survey, with responses from 104 parents affiliated with a public elementary school in a metropolitan area. In addition, data from the school's electronic registry were included. The qualitative analyses applied constructivist grounded theory strategies. During qualitative analyses of parental narratives, categories were identified that described parents' actions as negotiations conducted with the school. These negotiations pertained to the definition of the situation (characterizing the practices implemented by the school), the comprehension of teaching, including remote teaching, the level and nature of the parents’ involvement in pandemic education, and the extent of their (desired) influence on the shape of implemented solutions. The research uncovered the taken-for-granted vision of the school under the study as an expert entity capable and entitled to independently address even extraordinary challenges without consulting the stakeholders themselves. This vision was challenged by parents. Their initiation of negotiations was considered a manifestation of empowerment and emancipation. Further research on empowering practices of parents as partners, especially concerning changes in educational practices in extraordinary situations.

Opis:
The author draws our attention to the importance and complexity of developing learners' understanding as the goal of education. Her starting point is the proposal of distinguishing two types of understanding, arising from different paradigms and highlighting different aspects of this process. She distinguishes factual understanding, which is the focus of traditional pedagogy embedded in the positivist paradigm, which comes down to the mental process of updating knowledge about objective reality, and experiential understanding, the importance of which is recognized by humanistic pedagogy, which assumes that the world available to a man is a reality of values and meanings, and the process of understanding should be considered as a feature of the human way of being, consisting in their constant interpretation. In the context of this duality of meanings of understanding, she considers the presence of factual and experiential understanding in the teleological pedagogical discourse - creating goals for the 21st century education. For this purpose, she reflects on leading international educational reports and documents regarding the education system in Poland (educational reports and provisions of legal acts), as well as recalls the classic taxonomy of goals, which is a model for practitioners in formulating educational goals. The analyzes lead to the conclusion that while at the level of setting the final goals, the importance of education in understanding the world in the sense of experiential understanding is indicated, this perspective changes at the level of intermediate and specific goals, where understanding has only material connotations.

Opis:
Inclusive education is one of the most important and relevant contextual conditions in relation to the new model of functional assessment in Poland. Activities to support students with different educational needs require systematic monitoring of the changing state of their personal and environmental needs. The aim of the article is to present the main assumptions and determinants of functional assessment in Poland as a result of joint activities of teachers and professionals, including the possibility of using the ICF classification, which allows describing the functioning of students with different needs, and the use of functional assessment procedures from the moment of identification of the student's problem to the evaluation of the impact of the support provided. Functional assessment is a multi-faceted and varied process for identifying a student's resources and difficulties and the environmental factors that influence them. It is the basis for all help, support, therapy or rehabilitation measures carried out by various specialists and teachers. It has to include information from different sources in order to get an objective picture of the student's functioning and to learn about his or her life situation. A necessary prerequisite for the functional assessment is the correlation of the actions of the individuals from the supporting institutions and the parents, as well as their knowledge, which includes both the clinical picture of the problem and the person's functioning in everyday situations (ICF), including the impact on the student's functioning in relation to contextual factors (resources and barriers in the environment).
