The object of this report is to review the recent results and some perspectives on cold neutron interferometry using multilayer neutron mirrors developed in KUR. The purposes of our research are to develop new experimental techniques, new devices for controlling neutron spin states for opening up a new world of physics. A multilayer neutron polarizer working under a very low external magnetic field (low field magnetic mirror), Funahashi's interferometer, a cold neutron spin echo instrument, a multilayer neutron spin splitter and a cold neutron pulser were developed. The equivalency of the quantum precession induced by the effective gap layer of the multilayer neutron spin splitter and Larmor precession of neutron spin in a magnetic field is established. This idea allows us to develop a cold neutron phase-spin-echo interferometer (a neutron spin interferometer). The neutron spin interferometer and a cold neutron pulser enabled us to carry out the delayed choice experiment for answering the question "how the neutron wave propagates after being split by the semitransparent mirror (wave splitter)". These matters are reviewed in this paper.

We study one- and two-dimensional systems of two interacting particles in a time dependent harmonic potential. In a case of one-dimensional geometry a frequency of the potential varies periodically, while in the two-dimen- sional~case the harmonic potential rotates with a constant angular velocity. We show that depending on the driving frequency the distance between the particles can either explode or stay bound. Repulsive interaction can prevent the explosion, which seems quite counter-intuitive. Our work is related to Ecole Normale Supérieure experiment and shows that the effect found there is purely classical.

We study the dynamics of bright solitons in a Bose-Einstein condensate confined in a highly asymmetric trap. While working within the framework of a variational approach we carry out the stability analysis of the Bose-Einstein condensate solitons against collapse. When the number of atoms in the soliton exceeds a critical number N$\text{}_{c}$, it undergoes the so-called primary collapse. We find an analytical expression for N$\text{}_{c}$ in terms of appropriate experimental quantities that are used to produce and confine the condensate. We further demonstrate that, in the geometry of the problem considered, the width of the soliton varies inversely as the number of constituent atoms.

This paper reviews the use of adiabatic approximations in quantum optics.The general principle is explained in terms of the Landau-Zener model and the recently developed stimulated Raman adiabatic passage scheme. The features characteristic of adiabatic evolution are extracted from these examples. Our recent work on adiabatic level preparation and cavity mode transfer of excitation is presented and discussed.

Opis:
We investigate one-dimensional tight binding model in the presence of a correlated binary disorder. The disorder is due to the interaction of particles with heavy immobile other species. Off-diagonal disorder is created by means of a fast periodic modulation of interspecies interaction. The method based on transfer matrix techniques allows us to calculate the energies of extended modes in the correlated binary disorder. We focus on N-mer correlations and regain known results for the case of purely diagonal disorder. For off-diagonal disorder we find resonant energies. We discuss ambiguous properties of those states and compare analytical results with numerical calculations. Separately we describe a special case of the dual random dimer model.

Opis:
The wide use of beam splitters in quantum interferometry, attosecond metrology, modern quantum information processing, foundations of quantum mechanics, has been based on coherence of beams emerging from a beam splitter. Here we further develop the approach in which a beam splitter is regarded as a transformer of an incident wave field (photon field or matter wave field) into a field which has narrow maxima at the points along and in close vicinity of two or more particular lines. This description was derived by considering a thin grating as a model of a beam splitter for photons, atoms and molecules. It is applied to answer some questions raised in the discussions on the interpretation of wave particle duality.

In this work, we present a new result which concerns the derivation of the Green function relative to the time-independent Schrödinger equation in two-dimensional space. The system considered in this work is a quantal particle that moves in an axi-symmetric potential. At first, we have assumed that the potential V(r) to be equal to a constant $V_0$ inside a disk (radius a) and to be equal to zero outside the disk. We have used, to derive the Green function, the continuity of the solution and of its first derivative, at r=a (at the edge). Secondly, we have assumed that the potential V(r) is equal to zero inside the disk and is equal to $V_0$ outside the disk (the inverted potential). Here, also we have used the continuity of the solution and its derivative to obtain the associate Green function showing the discrete spectra of the Hamiltonian.

Opis:
We study ultra-cold bosonic systems in optical lattice using quantum rotor approach to calculate the current-current correlations, which provides the information about conductivity of the system. The method allows us to go beyond mean-field approximation and track the behavior of the real part of the conductivity along the phase transition between the Mott insulator and superfluid state for various geometries of the lattice. In the phase-ordered state at zero temperature, a discrete ingredient appears resulting from the long-range coherence in the system.

Exact solutions of the eigenproblem of the magnetic pentagonal ring exhibit the arithmetic symmetry expressed in terms of a Galois group of a finite extension of the prime field Q of rationals. We propose here a geometric interpretation of this symmetry in the interior of the Brillouin zone, in terms of point groups. Explicitly, it is a subgroup of the direct product C₄ × D₄. We present also the appropriate irreducible representations of the group.

A Lagrangian based method is used to derive an analytical model for studying the dynamics of matter-wave bright soliton created in a harmonic potential which is attractive in the transverse direction and expulsive in the longitudinal direction. By means of sech trial functions and a Ritz optimization procedure, evolution equations are constructed for width, amplitude and nonlinear frequency chirp of the propagating soliton of the atomic condensate. Our equation for the width is an exact agreement with that of Carr and Castin, obtained by more detailed analysis. In agreement with the experiment of Paris group, the expulsive potential is found to cause the soliton to explode for N|$a_s$|=0.98, N being the number of atoms in the condensate and $a_s$ -- the scattering length of the atom-atom interaction.

In the present work, phase constitution and thermomagnetic properties of $LaFe_{11.14}Co_{0.66}Si_{1.2-x}Al_{x}$ (where x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3) alloys were investigated. Ingot samples were obtained by arc-melting under the low pressure of Ar atmosphere. Subsequently samples were annealed at 1323 K for 15 days. X-ray diffraction of all samples revealed coexistence of two crystalline phases dominant $La(Fe,Si)_{13}$-type and minor bcc α -Fe. Furthermore, the magnetic measurements at various temperatures allowed to study the Curie temperature, magnetic entropy changes and relative cooling power.

III-V based alloys and heterostructures have got much attention due to their great device applications as well as for the development of electronic, optic and optoelectronic devices. Because of this reason, the present study reports an investigation about the band gap properties of $BBi_{1-x}N_{x}$ (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) ternary alloy in zinc-blende phase. The results of studied binary (BN and BBi) and ternary $BBi_{1-x}N_{x}$ alloy structures are presented by means of density functional theory within the Wu-Cohen exchange correlation potential based on generalized gradient approximation. We have implemented geometric optimization before the volume optimization calculations for all studied alloys structure. The obtained equilibrium lattice constants of studied binary compounds are in coincidence with experimental works. The band gap character (direct/indirect or negative) of ternary $BBi_{1-x}N_{x}$ alloys is also investigated.

Method of WIEN2k code is applied considering Wu-Cohen correlation energy functional based on density functional theory. We have constructed 1× 1× 1 supercell containing 8 atoms in zinc-blende structure. For all studied alloys structure, we have implemented geometric optimization before the volume optimization calculations. In this work, the structural and electronic properties of ternary alloys $Al_x In_{1-x}P$ are presented. The obtained equilibrium lattice constants of studied binary compounds are more compatible with experimental data compared to standard semilocal (LDA-PBE) calculations.

The magnetic ordering in $ErFe_{0.3}Ge_{2}$ and $ErNi_{0.65}Ge_{2}$ compounds crystallizing in the orthorhombic structure of the $CeNiSi_{2}$-type has been investigated by neutron diffraction and magnetic measurements. The Er magnetic moments have been found to order antiferromagnetically below 2.5 K in $ErFe_{0.3}Ge_{2}$ and 2.3 K in $ErNi_{0.65}Ge_{2}$. The magnetic structure of the former compound can be described by the propagation vector k = (0.044(1), 0, 0.384(1)). The Er magnetic moments are aligned along the a-axis and alternate with the sequence ++- in the unit cell. At 1.5 K they are equal to 5.9(1) $μ_{B}$. In contrast, the magnetic unit cell of $ErNi_{0.65}Ge_{2}$ has been established to be equal to the chemical one. The magnetic moments in this compound are arranged in a collinear manner pointing along the a-axis with the sequence +-+-. The Er moment value measured at 1.5 K is 2.90(8) $μ_{B}$.

In the current study, structural and electronic properties of ternary dilute nitride $InN_{x}P_{1-x}$ alloys have been investigated by using density functional theory. The equilibrium lattice parameter of studied material has been calculated in zinc-blende phase. 2× 2× 2 supercell with 64 atoms has been used for calculations. The lattice parameter of $InN_{0.03125}P_{0.96875}$ alloy is found to be 5.852 Å. By means of the equilibrium lattice parameter, electronic band structure has been calculated for dilute 3.125% nitride composition. It is found that a ternary $InN_{0.03125}P_{0.96875}$ alloy is a direct band gap semiconductor with energy band gap of 1.198 eV.

Transport properties of 10μm to 30μm wide grain-boundary junctions ion-etched in thin colossal magnetoresistance La$\text{}_{0. 7}$Sr$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ films deposited on a SrTiO$\text{}_{3}$ bi-crystal were investigated. We have measured the current-voltage characteristics in the temperature range from 4.2 K to 300 K without applied magnetic field, as well as the magnetoresistance at magnetic fields up to±10 kOe directed parallel to the film surface, both perpendicular and parallel to the direction of current flow through the junctions. The investigated junctions have nonlinear current-voltage characteristics in this temperature range and consist of several magnetic domains. The maximum magnetoresistance (R(H)-R $\text{}_{max}$)/R$\text{}_{max}$, measured at 1 kOe was -17.6% at 4.1 K.

In the present work, the phase constitution and magnetic properties of the $LaFe_{11.14}Co_{0.66}Si_{1.2-x}Ga_{x}$ (where x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3) alloys, were investigated. It was revealed that increase of Ga content in the alloy composition causes the rise of lattice parameter of the $La(Fe,Si)_{13}$-type phase, which causes increase of the Curie temperature. However, the increase of Ga addition leads to decrease of magnetocaloric effect.

We study the properties of ultra-cold bosons in optical lattice in arbitrary gauge potentials. Using quantum rotor approach we are able to go beyond mean-field approximation thus taking into account subtleties of the band structure of the artificial magnetic field. This allows us to elucidate the interplay of the subbands widths and energy gaps on the formation of the coherent state. As a result, we are able to pinpoint the elements of the band structure, which are crucial to proper theoretical description of the synthetic magnetic field in a lattice bosonic system. This leads us finally to a method of approximation of the Hofstadter butterfly spectrum with a simpler band structure and use it to investigate the ground state of the system for a wide range of magnetic fluxes.

Opis:
We consider striking connections between the theory of homogenous isotropic Heisenberg ring (XXX-model) and algebraic number theory. We explain the nature of these connections especially applications of Galois theory for computation of the spectrum of the Heisenberg operators and Bethe parameters. The solutions of the Heisenberg eigenproblem and Bethe Ansatz generate interesting families of algebraic number fields. Galois theory yields additional symmetries which not only simplify the analysis of the model but may lead to new applications and horizons.

Opis:
We present new experimental evidence indicating the importance of magnetic field component of microwave field (f=9.4 GHz) for magnetoresistive properties of polycrystalline La$\text{}_{0.7}$Ca$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ films. The microwave measurements revealed a different character of the temperature-dependent electrical resistance of polycrystalline La$\text{}_{0.7}$Ca$\text{}_{0.3}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ films placed in the centre (maximal amplitude of H$\text{}_{10}$ wave vector) and at a narrow wall of the wave-guide (reduced H$\text{}_{10}$ amplitude). Theoretical estimations of the influence of substrate onto distribution of microwave electric and magnetic fields in the waveguide were performed using the finite-difference time-domain method.
