We consider some forms of the witness of a life of laity which is a fundamental form of propagate of Gospel in the modern world. Firstly, the apostolate of the laity expresses by following Jesus Christ in the daily life. By st. Francis de Sales it is mainly realized through practice of the small virtues such as humility and gentle charity in the spirit of true joy. Secondly, st. Francis de Sales pays attention that fidelity to duty of the state is an important dimension of the apostolate in the daily life, for example in the marriage, in the family, in the work. Thirty, st. Francis de Sales proposes also to practice of Gospel advice, first of all poverty, chastity, obedience. He explains how we can realize them in the life of the laity.

The family, as the place of the apostolic activities, should show the children and youths its beauty and the possibilities of the apostolate. This task is performed if the family becomes a focus of Divine and human love for its members. This is expressed in building vital relations between the spouses and the children. The dialog that originates between the husband and the wife on the one hand and the children on the other, protects and deepens their love. In maintaining and respecting love the spouses and children are consolidated by faith that opens them to God’s presence and activity in life, and teaches them humility and trust. Both the husband and the wife are invited to undertake the evangelization tasks. Christian parents are the first teachers of faith and first educators for their children. Through word and example they prepare them for a Christian and apostolic life. Frequently children brought up in this way experience the reality of the circle they live in that is permeated with the spirit of apostolate, and they choose the particular way of monastic or priestly life, realizing the missionary vocation. The apostolate of the Christian family is not just wishful thinking, but the living necessity of the Church that in the name of Christ wants to transform the contemporary world. The family internally united and open to the neighbors makes Christ’s Church present everywhere it lives and acts.

Autor w swoim opracowaniu, biorąc pod uwagę problemy, jakich doświadcza obecnie człowiek, poszukuje odpowiedzi na pytanie: jak ma wyglądać współczesne życie konsekrowane, jakim wyzwaniom musi ono dzisiaj sprostać? Czego oczekuje się dzisiaj od osób konsekrowanych, jakiego świadectwa? W związku z tym, najpierw wskazuje podstawy teologiczne wspólnoty zakonnej, podkreślając, że jest ona darem Bożym, a zarazem tajemnicą zakorzenioną w sercu Trójcy Świętej, następnie omawia jej wymiar charyzmatyczny. Zdaniem autora zasadniczym elementem życia konsekrowanego jest wierność wobec własnej konsekracji według charyzmatu. Wśród współczesnych wyzwań na pierwszym miejscu podkreśla on wyzwania wynikające z rad ewangelicznych, a następnie poddaje analizie inne znaki czasu, które są wyzwaniem dla osób konsekrowanych. Po przeprowadzonych analizach autor podkreśla, że najistotniejszym elementem odpowiedzi na postawione pytanie badawcze pozostaje osobiste i wspólnotowe świadectwo życia osób konsekrowanych. Ich życie objawia światu prawdziwe oblicze miłości Boga i Kościoła, ale nigdy go nie wyczerpuje. Dokumenty Stolicy Apostolskiej umieszczają życie konsekrowane w centrum działalności Kościoła, tym samym wyznaczają mu doniosłe zadanie, by było widocznym znakiem obecności Boga w świecie. Ci, którzy żyją życiem konsekrowanym, stają się promotorami prawdziwego rozwoju osoby ludzkiej. W tym znaczeniu osoby konsekrowane mają szczególny udział i zadanie w uświęcaniu świata. Stanowią one zatem radykalną odpowiedź na pojawiające się w każdej epoce znaki czasu.
In his paper, examining the problems experienced by man today, the author seeks answers to the question: what is contemporary consecrated life to look like? What challenges does it face today? What is expected from consecrated persons today, which testimony? In this regard, first, he points to the theological foundations of the religious community, emphasizing that it is a gift from God and at the same time a mystery rooted in the heart of the Holy Trinity, and then he discusses its charismatic dimension. The author thinks that fidelity to one’s consecration according to the charism is an essential element of consecrated life. Among today’s challenges, he first highlights the challenges of the evangelical counsels, and then analyses other contemporary signs of the time, which are a challenge for consecrated persons. Following these analyses, the author emphasizes that personal and community testimony of the life of consecrated persons remains the most important element of the answer to the posed question. Their lives reveal the true face of the love of God and the Church to the world, but never exhaust it. The documents of the Apostolic See place consecrated life in the center of the Church’s activity, thereby assigning it the momentous task of being a visible sign of God’s presence in the world. Those who live a consecrated life become promoters of the true development of the human person. In this sense, consecrated persons have a special share and task in sanctifying the world. They are, therefore, a radical response to the emerging signs of time in each epoch.

The word is a mighty ruler capable of performing miracles. Proclamation of God’s Word was and still is one of the most important tasks of the Church. The Word of God awakens and deepens faith. The preacher undertakes a responsible task collaborating with God himself. This responsibility goes beyond the limits of worldliness. Reading and studying the Bible is not sufficient. It is essen- tial to join talent and knowledge together with prayer. Therefore, prayer should be the foundation of priest’s spiritual life. Proper preparation and fruitful preaching is closely related to the spiritual life of the preacher of God’s Word. Immersed in prayer preacher is a credible witness of Christ and a living sign of God’s presence in the modern world. The preacher must be convinced of what he teaches. There is no shortage in the Church of those who are a model of preaching based on their prayer. The word of God they had proclaimed was a masterpiece. The Word that matured in prayer was like gold received from God to pass on to man.

This article by a Slovak theologian who has lived in the Czech Republic for twenty years provides a wide public with a profile of the personality of Cardinal František Tomášek, the Czech Primate, who died twenty years ago. The study is divided into three main chapters, which are intended to give the public a comprehensive picture of a man, who clearly influenced the running of the Catholic Church over several decades, but also society in former Czechoslovakia. The first chapter outlines a brief chronology of the teacher – arch (bishop) cardinal, acquainting the reader with a distinguished man, a European personality, which is exactly what the unforgettable František Tomášek was. The middle chapter focusses on the significant, decisive and influential moments for the spiritual father of the nation, which were crucial for the establishment of the freedom of the whole of Czechoslovakia and in which we can recognize the pinnacle of the archbishop’s life. The third and last chapter outlines the specific personality traits of the Czech Cardinal, based on his exceptionality which is worth following.

The relatively rich complex of hagiologic works and documents attesting the CyrilloMethodian tradition contains various kind of information on the death, grave and remains of the Holy brothers, especially those of St. Cyril. All texts, including the emerging in our time, are a living testimony of their cult, revealing the diversity of its’ functions appointed. The authors trace out and systemize various text – liturgical, hagiographic, historiographic and documentary, concerning the issue of the relics of the two Slavic saints. Besides the Long Life of St. Constantine-Cyril, the Greek Vitae of SS Clemens and Nahum of Ochrid, the Eulogy on Cyril and Methodius and the so-called Legenda Italica, hagiographic works of West Slavic origin are considered under the aspect of their essential importance for the saints’ relics veneration. They are interpreted as a phenomenon of realizing King Charles’ IV national doctrine on the base of their appearance in the inventories of the S. Vaclav chapel treasury in the metropolitan church of Prague as well as in the correspondence of Czech kings and Czech and Polish prelates. The issue of the burial place of the Brothers from Salonika and the location of their remains is presented in the article as an element of the hot interfaith dispute in the 1stRzeczpospolita. The 16th c. common awareness that the relics of SS Cyril and Methodius are kept at San Clemente in Rome was treated by the Catholics as a clear proof of divine approval for the Western church (and especially its head) and synergistic cooperation in the intention of the saint (Cyril wants to stay in Rome forever). Orthodox party defended “the good name” with the argument that even in Rome the orthodoxy and its missionaries were paid special attention. А modern attitude to the issue is displayed by the modern service dedicated to the rediscovery of S. Cyril’s relicts and their replacement in “San Clemente” on 17th November 1963. It was introduced in the liturgical praxis of the Bulgarian Catholics in 1980. The text of the service is designed in the prospects of the new vision on the role of SS Cyril and Methodius and their veneration in the contemporary world – as expressed by the Pope’s encyclical epistle “Antiquae nobilitatis” from 2nd February and the speech of Pope Paul VI in San Pietro on 14th February. Contemporary evidences of the political instrumentalization of the cult of St. Cyril’s remains are demonstrated as well. Without being exhaustive, the article presents a wide panorama of the cult of relics of St. Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher as a phenomenon of Slavonic and European cultural identity.

In the theology of Eastern Christianity there is a special category of“God’s fools.” This is a particular image of faith and belongs to those whohave had some mystical experience. The cross is marked by reason. Thisfoolishness of the cross is the basic process in theological interpretation.The cross should shine out even more with its foolishness against the glareof evil, as it draws one to the authentic witness of faith and life. Rationalityand reason are not sufficient to face evil. The large amount of help andvoluminous theories on poverty do not solve the problems of the poor.The “foolishness” of the Gospel stands up against the foolishness of violence.Victory means forgiveness in God’s name, who appeared to losethe battle on the cross. The foolishness of the cross is a gift leading to lifeand it sparks a great light of hope which many institutions and peoplewant to extinguish. Hope is not understood, especially when evil appearsto triumph. The foolishness of love can overcome evil. “The message ofthe cross is folly for those who are on the way to ruin, but for those of uswho are on the road to salvation it is the power of God” (1 Cor 1,18).

Zaangażowanie w katechizację ze strony zakonników, zakonnic i członków stowarzyszeń życia apostolskiego jest niezmiernie cenne w obecnym dziejowym momencie nowej ewangelizacji nowej Europy i nowego świata.
Catechesis should lead to the formation of a personal bond with God following the model of Christ, and to professing the faith in the Church for a full personalization of man and of the world. For this service, in a special way, in all the history, the Church has always called consecrated persons to devote the maximum of their abilities and possibilities to the work of teaching, educating and of initiation that is realized by catechesis in various circles. The contribution of monks to catechization is most fully realized by making the Person of Christ present with the use of the example of one's life, and by following the example of the Son of God, by the profession of evangelic councils and by the testimony of one's Christian life in agreement with the Gospel, revealing Christ and showing the face of the Church, as well as by monastic charismas involved in the process of catechization, giving it a special emphasis and a telling character. Involvement in catechization on the part of monks, nuns, and members of associations of apostolic life is of utmost importance at the present moment in the history of the new evangelization of the new Europe and the new world.

Community life, along with the practice of the evangelical counsels in imitation of Jesus Christ, is one of the essential elements of religious life. The article discusses the theological sources of the religious community, showing its biblical foundations and the inspiration which it draws from the inner life of the Holy Trinity. The second part presents some practical and contemporary elements of the community dimension.

Dialog życia jest podstawową formą dialogu, który Kościół katolicki prowadzi z innymi religiami. Taką formę ewangelizacji prowadziłam jako Franciszkanka Misjonarka Maryi (FMM) w Afryce Północnej. Dialog życia z wyznawcami islamu polegał na życzliwym obcowaniu z nimi w dzielnicy, w której mieszkałam i pracowałam. Opierał się przede wszystkim na naturalnej ludzkiej solidarności i codziennych kontaktach w duchu tolerancji oraz wysiłku zrozumienia naszych odrębności. Pracowałam w Centrum dla Sparaliżowanych Dzieci w Trypolisie i byłam tam jedyną Europejką i chrześcijanką. Zarabiałam tyle, co inni Libijczycy. Mieszkałam w jednej z ich dzielnic, w domu połączonym trzema ścianami i tarasem z innymi domami. Pracując z wyznawcami islamu miałam wolne od pracy piątki i wszystkie muzułmańskie święta. Reprezentowałam religijną i narodową mniejszość, a moja rola sprowadzała się do służby. Zawód pielęgniarki bardzo mi ją ułatwiał. W pracy czułam się jak w wielkiej, solidarnej rodzinie. Nie czułam się tam ani wyobcowana, ani zagrożona, wręcz przeciwnie - odnalazłam grono oddanych przyjaciół.
Dialogue of life is a basic form of dialogue that the Catholic Church conducts with other religions. This form of evangelization I practised as a Franciscan Missionary of Mary (FMM) in North Africa. Dialogue of life with Muslims was based on the benevolent dealing with them in a neighbourhood in which I lived and worked. It was based primarily on the natural human solidarity and daily contacts in a spirit of tolerance and effort to understand our differences. I worked at the Centre for Paralyzed Children in Tripoli, and have been the only European and Christian. I earned as much as other Libyans. I lived in one of their neighbourhoods, in a house joined with other ones by three walls and a terrace. Working with the followers of Islam I had Fridays and all Muslim holidays free. I represented the religious and national minority, and my role was confined to the service. Occupation of a nurse really facilitated it. At work, I felt a great family solidarity. I did not feel there neither alienated nor threatened, on the contrary - I found the circle of devoted friends.

Abstrakt dostępny w papierowej wersji czasopisma.
The problem of life and the reality of the family are closely connected and one can safely say that they are almost inseparable. It is enough to look at the documents of the Second Vatican Council to see that marriage and the family are a deep union of married life and love (Gaudium et Spes 48). St. John Paul II in the encyclical Evangelium Vitae highlights the relationship between the family and the gift of life (EV 92). This publication is dedicated to the pastoral support of marriages and families in respect for life. It consists of several parts in which the author presents successively the value and inviolability of human life, describing the basic environment of human life, that is a family whose mission is the transmission and protection of life. Next, we fi nd a discussion of the mission of the Church, which is called to serve man and family and especially to support the family in the affi rmation of life. The article culminates in the presentation of selected forms and ways of pastoral support for the family, including the word of God, the witness of the spouses’ lives, accompanying spouses and family, and concrete actions the Church undertakes to defend life.

Kryzys życia konsekrowanego łączy się ściśle z kryzysem współczesnego człowieka oraz kryzysem Kościoła. Osłabienie wiary i wierności wybranemu powołaniu skutkuje brakiem świadectwa i w jakiejś mierze wpływa również na spadek liczby powołań. Zarówno słowo Boże, jak też współczesne nauczanie Magisterium Kościoła dają jednak wskazówki, które mogą stać się źródłem odnowy życia zakonnego. To niesie nadzieję, że zakonnicy ponownie staną się wyraźnym znakiem obecności Boga w świecie.
The crisis of the consecrated life is tightly connected with the crisis of the contemporary human being and with the crisis of the Church. Weakening of the faith and lack of faithfulness to the chosen calling results with lack of witnessing and consequently with lower number of vocations. Both the Word of God and the modern teaching of the Magisterium of the Church give clues, which could become the source of the renewal of the consecrated life. It gives hope that the religious again will become a clear sign of the presence of God in the world.

Artykuł ma za zadanie wskazać na chrystocentryczne źródła życia konsekrowanego. Jezus Chrystus jest dla osób konsekrowanych założycielem i wzorem obranej przez nich formy życia. Syn Boży jawi się jako wzór konsekracji opartej na profesji rad ewangelicznych, która w sensie ścisłym oznacza naśladowanie formy życia praktykowanej przez Niego. Artykuł wskazuje także na paschalny wymiar konsekracji, która zakorzeniona jest w konsekracji chrzcielnej, będącej początkiem życia Bożego w człowieku, oraz w Eucharystii. Naśladując Chrystusa czystego, ubogiego i posłusznego, osoby konsekrowane stają się świadkami Jego obecności w świecie.
The goal of the article is to present the Christocentric sources of the consecrated life. Jesus Christ is for all the consecrated people their founder and pattern for the chosen by them form of life. The son of God is indeed the model of consecration based on the profession of the evangelical counsels which in the strict sense means to follow the form of life He has chosen and practised himself. The article picked out on the paschal dimension of the consecration, which is deeply rooted in the baptismal consecration, which is the beginning of the God’s life in human as well as in the Eucharist. Following Christ who is chaste, poor and obedient the consecrated people become the witnesses of His presence in the world.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie Trójjedynego Boga jako źródła życia konsekrowanego. Powołanie do życia konsekrowanego rodzi się z wolnej inicjatywy Boga. Śluby zakonne, będąc darem Trójcy Przenajświętszej, stanowią odzwierciedlenie tej formy życia, którą przyjął Syn Boży, posłany przez Ojca w Duchu Świętym. Trynitarne źródło życia zakonnego jest widoczne na różnych poziomach: na poziomie powołania, poziomie instytutów oraz poszczególnych wspólnot. Artykuł porusza również zagadnienie świadectwa osób konsekrowanych oraz wymiaru profetycznego życia zakonnego.
The purpose of this article is to show the Triune God as a source of a consecrated life. The vocation to the consecrated life is being born of free God’s initiative. The religious vows, as the Holy Trinity’s gift, are reflections of that way of life, which God’s Son accepted, who was sent by Father in Holy Spirit. Trinitarian source of consecrated life is seen in various aspects: the aspect of vocation, the aspect of institutes and the aspect of communities. The author of the article also raises the topic of the testimony of consecrated people and prophetic aspect of consecrated life.
