Opis:
In the University School of Physical Education in Warsaw the project entitled: “The Project of National Center for Research on Physical Fitness” (NCBKF) is being realized. The idea of this project comes from the long-standing tradition of national-level, population-based studies on physical development and fitness of children and adolescents, carried out by the Warsaw-based school. As a result of the studies, rich research material was gathered pertaining to the physical fitness of students in Polish schools. The project realization began in 2009, its basic functionality is expected to be achieved in 2012, whereas full functionality in 2015. The project called “Check yourself” has already been launched. This is a joint action of the University School of Physical Education in our country for the purpose of enabling auto-diagnosis in physical fitness of the largest possible number of members of Polish society. The authors of the project are convinced that realization of the NCBKF mission will result in health improvement of children, adolescents and adults and their more effective functioning in the contemporary world.

Physical and special physical fitness of first and second year students which go in for boxing in the process of their physical training during one and two years, respectively, is defined here. The research involved 108 students: 54 students from first year and 54 students from second year, which were tested during the year (at the beginning and at the end). The following types of testing were used: standing long jump, lying dip up for 20 sec and 1 min, speed – 100 m running, endurance – running 3000 m, rope jumping (quantity per 1 min) and special physical fitness was determined by maximum quantity of left and right punches during 15 sec. There positive dynamics and growth of all physical fitness indicators of students who went in for boxing during the first year was defined. The students who went in for boxing for the second year showed better results and their dynamics (in addition to indicators of 100 m running speed).

Background: Systemic cryotherapy has broad effects on the human body. These include improved immunity, accelerated tissue regeneration, activation of thermoregulatory mechanisms, analgesic effects, and reduced muscle tension and spasticity without compromising strength. Aim of the study: To evaluate the effect of systemic cryotherapy on physical fitness. Material and methods: The 43 participants (42 – 53 years of age) underwent 10 daily treatments in a nitrogen cryochamber over two consecutive weeks. Each cryochamber treatment lasted for 3 minutes at -130°C. Physical fitness was tested before and after the cryochamber treatment course using elements of three physical testing methods (a functional movement screen, a TKKF physical fitness test and a general fitness test). Results: After cryotherapy, there was a visible improvement in the first four exercises of the fitness test with fewer participants feeling pain during movement, and more able to perform the exercises correctly or perfectly. For the remaining three exercises, the changes occurred in fewer subjects and to a lesser extent. Conclusions: Systemic cryotherapy was associated with improved physical fitness. It can be used to help increase overall physical fitness as a complementary and supportive process.

Opis:
Flexibility is one of the elements – components which support physical fitness and health as well (Howley, Franks, 1997; Bouchard, Shephard, 1994; Skinner, Oja, 1994). The purpose of this paper was to assess the impact of additional flexibility exercises on physical fitness in lower secondary school students, evaluated by means of IPFT (the International Physical Fitness Test). The study was conducted in two experimental groups, where extra flexibility exercises were added to all obligatory PE lessons, and one control group. 1. The decreased standard deviation observed in particular IPFT attempts in the experimental class is the correct tendency showing the favorable influence of flexibility exercises on students’ physical fitness and health. 2. An improvement and considerably better, though statistically insignificant, results were obtained by the students involved in the additional exercises, in all assessed motor skills (strength, speed, endurance and flexibility) and in the scoring reflecting the level of physical fitness. 3. After one year of exercises the control group had worse average results in two attempts – 50 m run (to assess speed) and standing forward bend (to measure flexibility). This trend indicates the importance of flexibility exercises as regards speed and agility.

Opis:
The problem of physical fitness in the 21st century society is, on the one hand, the result of the last century negligence, and on the other, a natural result of a deepening regression of pro-health education among young people. Such a situation negatively affects both the health and physical condition of society, which indirectly also affects the level of state security. Physical fitness is an indispensable condition for the effective functioning of all services in this sector, especially uniformed formations such as the armed forces, the police, and many others in their areas of responsibility. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to change the society’s habits, but it is possible to develop new habits among young people by focusing on pro-health education, i.e., education and upbringing in the spirit of responsibility for their own health and physical fitness. Therefore, the main goal of this article is to show the essence of the problem of young people’s pro-health education in the context of the fitness level decline in the 21st century society, and how these issues can be discussed in the face of contemporary threats. The paper also includes references to the issue of education and health promotion strategy among young people in order to identify the causes of the decline in society’s fitness level. The issues addressed were studied using theoretical research methods, i.e., analysis, synthesis, abstraction, explanation, generalisation, and inference.

Background. The main aim of this paper is the assessment of differentiation of somatic body build and physical fitness of men with respect to the military speciality. Material and methods. The material was gathered in view of examinations of men who had completed twelve-month Officers’ College at the Tadeusz Kościuszko Land Forces Military Academy in Wrocław in the years 2006–2010. The research included anthropometric measurements, motor trials and a survey. Body height and body mass were measured. Moreover, body mass index and Rohrer index were calculated. The following functional traits were measured: run endurance, relative strength, trunk muscle strength, explosive strength of lower extremities, speed-running agility. In addition, maximal anaerobic work was calculated. Results and conclusions. The military training did not comprise the element which differentiated somatic body build of examined men. However, this training turned out to be the factor which differentiated the level of the majority of functional features. Only the level of a relative strength was similar in all divisional groups in terms of the military speciality.

Opis:
Celem pracy była ocena poziomu sprawności fizycznej uczniów Ogólnokształcącego Liceum Lotniczego (OLL) w Dęblinie na tle grupy porównawczej. Badania sprawności fizycznej przeprowadzono w grudniu 2009 roku. Objęto nimi 129 chłopców. Do oceny usprawnienia uczniów zastosowano zestaw prób motorycznych wchodzących w skład Europejskiego Testu Sprawności Fizycznej (EUROFIT). W każdej grupie wiekowej wyliczono średnie arytmetyczne i odchylenia standardowe wszystkich ocenianych prób.
This study was undertaken in order to evaluate the level of physical fitness of boys from the Secondary Aviation School (SAS) (OLL) in Dęblin in respect of a comparative group. Examinations of physical fitness were conducted in December 2009 and covered 129 pupils. Their fitness was evaluated with the use of a battery of motor tests being a part of the European Physical Fitness Test (EUROFIT). In each age category, arithmetic means and standard deviations were calculated for the results achieved in all motor tests. Differences in the level of physical fitness between the surveyed boys and their average peers inhabiting the Lubelskie Province were determined with a T point scale. In turn, the significance of difference was evaluated with the use of the Student’s test for independent variables. The boys from SAS in Dęblin were characterized by a higher level of general physical fitness, as compared to their average peers. Distinct differences were noted in the tests of upper limb speed, explosive strength, trunk strength, trunk suppleness and functional strength. It should be noticed, however, that the boys examined were characterized by a significantly lower level of balance. In the other analyzed tests, the differences in the level of physical fitness were not so remarkable.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to see if there are significant relationships between different variables of physical condition and academic performance. Most literature shows that a relationship does exist, mainly emphasizing maximal oxygen consumption and academic performance. With regard to the other variables, more differences can be found. A total of 79 students participated in the study from the island of Majorca (Spain), ranging in age from 12.5 to 14.5 years. Students passed fitness tests, which were compared with their academic results. The results show a significant positive relationship between BMI and hand grip strength and significant negative relationships between BMI and note and between BMI and maximal oxygen consumption. No significant relationships have been found, however, between maximal oxygen consumption and note. Assessment of the importance of physical condition and therefore physical education in academic performance is of interest in order to implement the necessary hours of Physical Education. Furthermore, this subject should be characterised further in terms of its relation to the issue of health.

Opis:
Przynajmniej w odniesieniu do sprawności fizycznej w wojsku.
The common history of the army and civilian exercise programs up to this day shows that there is a kind of co-evolution between them. Physical fitness is a value in itself and at the same time is useful to the army. However, the criteria for this utility are different and change over time. Nowadays, the civil market is usually one step ahead of military, doing its own "reckon by fire" in the field physical fitness. On its part, the army offers support and recruit civilians; it is also the opposite when the market tries to appropriate military stuff. Physical fitness and care for it are and should be part of the soldier's ethos. However, it’s not physical fitness who make a soldier. In general, utility should not be a value in itself, and value in itself may be useful. At least with regard to physical fitness in the army.
