Purpose: identification of effective mechanisms of organizational adaptation under high uncertainty in light of the assumptions of the complexity theory. Design/methodology/approach: The approach adopted involves literature review, including an interdisciplinary ground of complexity theory. Findings: The content of the article includes the conceptualization of patterns as schemata at the level of an organization, recognition of the relationship between schemata and organizational routines as an area subject to shaping, and identification of the dynamics of routines depending on the degrees of uncertainty. Research limitations/implications: The results of the study are presented in the form of theoretical framework enabling further testing. Originality/value: Conceptualization of the contextual nature of routines depending on the degree of uncertainty as a mechanism of change and stability in the organization.

The study is a comprehensive introduction to the psychological version of the so-called microfoundational approach to routines. It focuses on the problem of how psychological micro-level phenomena and processes of individual actors affect the organisational macro-level of routines. More specifically, the study proposes to explain the sources of macro-level automatic stability and resourceful flexibility of routines by psychological habits and psychological flexibility. The approach presented in the study promises not only the level of detail that has not been present in extant investigations of routines research, but also a new account of the classic problem of the opposition between automaticity and flexibility of routines. Artykuł stanowi wszechstronne wprowadzenie do problematyki tzw. mikropodstaw organizacyjnych działań rutynowych w wersji psychologicznej. Tekst koncentruje się na tym, w jaki sposób psychologiczne zjawiska i procesy na mikropoziomie indywidualnych aktorów organizacyjnych wpływają na makropoziom organizacyjnych działań rutynowych. Artykuł stara się wyjaśnić szczególnie, źródła automatycznej stabilności oraz elastyczności występujących na makropoziomie działań rutynowych poprzez specyfikę nawyków psychologicznych oraz elastyczność psychologiczną. Ujęcie proponowane w tekście nie tylko pozwala osiągnąć taki poziom szczegółowości, który dotychczas nie był obecny w badaniach nad działaniami rutynowymi, lecz także stanowi nowe ujęcie klasycznego problemu opozycji między automatycznością i elastycznością działań rutynowych. This study aims to enhance bilingual language acquisition in very young children in a Portuguese kindergarten. The promotion of children’s language and cognition is done through access to another language – English – in their daily context by incorporating the language into the children’s routines and school daily activities. We collected data from an immersion teacher training program towards bilingualism use, the development of their assistants’ English language fluency, the parents’ awareness and beliefs about English and children’s language development. The sample includes 140 children, aged 5 months to 6 years, teachers and teaching assistants. Teachers have changed their language beliefs concerning English and the program has influenced their practice. The results showed that children develop communicative skills in both languages when surrounded by a bilingual friendly and emotional environment. They use both languages in their everyday life and have created a positive and emotional relationship with the English.

Dotychczas w badaniach nad praktykami obronnymi w organizacjach wskazywano na ich wyraźne i wzajemnie powiązane elementy indywidualne i organizacyjne. Nie wyodrębniono jednak i nie przeanalizowano czynników wywołujących praktyki obronne na obu tych poziomach. Charakteryzując praktyki obronne, autorzy artykułu odwołują się do teorii praktyk organizacyjnych. Następnie identyfikują czynniki wyzwalające je na poziomie indywidualnym i organizacyjnym. Do tych zidentyfikowanych na poziomie indywidualnym należą ogólne poczucie własnej skuteczności, poczucie umiejscowienia kontroli i neurotyczność, natomiast na poziomie organizacyjnym wskazano politykę organizacyjną, biurokrację i strukturę organizacyjną. Autorzy artykułu analizują potencjalne szkody, jakie praktyki obronne mogą powodować u osób i organizacji, związane z satysfakcją z pracy, zaangażowaniem w pracę, „oburęcznością” (ambidexterity) organizacji i procesami uczenia się organizacji. Zaproponowany przez autorów model teoretyczny stanowi fundament dla przyszłych badań empirycznych i poszerza na poziomie teoretycznym sieć nomologiczną praktyk obronnych w organizacjach. According to research, organizational defensive routines (ODRs) have strong and intertwined individual and organizational components. However, the literature has yet to systematically isolate and analyse ODR-triggering factors at both levels. In this paper, we shall first refer to organizational routine theory to expound the characteristics of ODRs. Next, it identifies their individual and organization-level triggers. At the individual level factors generating ODRs are general self-efficacy, locus of control, and neuroticism, while those operating at the organizational level are organizational politics, red tape, and organizational structure. Finally, the chapter explores potential damage ODRs could cause to individuals and organizations related to individuals’ job satisfaction, work engagement, organizational ambidexterity, and organizational learning. The theoretical model presented in this paper forms a foundation for a future empirical study and theoretically extends the nomological network of ODRs. The influence of global lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted the lives of many people. Once performed elsewhere, many activities had to be moved to private spaces of individual homes, influencing how people use their residential space, modifying their living and working conditions. The purpose of this study was to research the changes in the use of residential space through questionnaires addressed to respondents in five age groups (up to 25, 26–35, 36–50, 51–65, and over 65), and living or studying in the Milan area (Lombardy)—an area affected severely by COVID-19 in the period March–May 2020. The obtained questionnaire results allowed the authors to create a set of guidelines for apartment design, intended to improve their spatial performance. The observations made when creating the case study projects led to two main conclusions: First, at the level of the house plan, the arrangement of the plan should be free and adaptable, al-lowing for fast alteration by the user. Second, the project should be tailor-made, highly specialized, and purposefully designed at the level of home office design, including appropriate furnishings, technical appliances, and lighting systems.

Among Spanish phraseological units as a whole, the conversational routines fill an important space because of their wide number and their usage frequency in the informal register. Although many authors were interested in studying them, there are no studies concerning them in profundity yet. The present study has multiple aims and each of them tightly corresponds to a specific section of this paper: fundamentally, in the first pages we are interested in the definition of the conversational routines and their distinctions from other phraseological units; for this purpose the thoughts of the most important scholars in this fi eld are to be reviewed. In the second part the aim is to make a complete distinction of the structures by checking the characteristics that differentiate them from other phraseological units. In the third part, which is only a starting point for the scholars, as it is for us, who are already widening the purpose in another work, we concentrate on how to construct a dictionary: how to choose the conversational routines and which information about them to offer to the users; how to choose contexts for a better understanding of the structures, etc. The locutions which conform to our proposal, extracted according to exhaustive standards from the phraseological units as a whole, have the words ver and decir as their lexical centre and are placed in the lexicographical articles of the words ver and decir. The Diccionario del Español Actual (DEA) by M. Seco has been used.

Opis:
A new method of pivoting applicable to banded unsymmetric linear equation systems has been introduced. It limits the fill--in, preserves basic band structure and makes full use of allocated memory. Two new features of this method include multiple pivoting and the threshold factor use for pivoting decision. The stability or rather the solution precision has been investigated basing on the examples of classic ill conditioned equation system (Hilbert) and quasi--random system with still more difficult conditioning characteristic. Comprehensive test results have been presented in the easily readable graphic form.They prove the overall efficiency of new solvers and compare them favourably with the software from CLAPACK library.
Przedstawiono nową metodę wyboru elementów głównych użyteczną w przypadku pasmowych niesymetrycznych układów równań liniowych. Metoda ta ogranicza wypełnianie, zachowuje podstawową strukturę pasmową i w pełni wykorzustuje zaalokowaną pamięć. Dwie nowe właściwości tej metody to wielokrotne wybieranie elementów głównych oraz stosowanie współczynników progowych przy podejmowaniu decyzji o wyborze elementów głównych. Stabilność, a właściwie dokładność rozwiązań zbadano w oparciu o przykład klasycznego źle uwarunkowanego układu równań (Hilbert) i pseudo--przypadkowego układu, jeszcze gorzej uwarunkowanego. Rezultaty ekstensywnych testów przedstawiono w dobrze czytelnej postaci graficznej. Potwierdzają one efektywność nowego oprogramowania, zwłaszcza w porównaniu z oprogramowaniem z biblioteki CLAPACK.

Opis:
Image edge detection plays a crucial role in image analysis and computer vision, it is defined as the process of finding the boundaries between objects within the considered image. The recognized edges may further be used in object recognition or image matching. In this paper a Canny image edge detector is used which gives acceptable results that can be utilized in many disciplines, but this technique is time-consuming especially when a big collection of images is analyzed. For that reason, to enhance the performance of the algorithms, a parallel platform allowing speeding up the computation is used. The scalability of a multicore supercomputer node, which is exploited to run the same routines for a collection of color images (from 2100 to 42000 images) is investigated.

Linguistic routines are characteristic for human communication. They give the communication partners a certain security. This allows the producer to take the time to structure the content of the following in an appropriate way. They belong to certain rituals: the recipient has the opportunity to adopt a certain attitude towards what is expected before making a statement. The paper starts from a case that is not that frequently used in contemporary German, but salient, namely „Ehrlich gesagt, ... “, and examines the functions of routine formulas in emotional language / in emotional speaking and also which changes they are subject to.

The Covid-19 pandemic has encouraged a shift to smart-working both for companies as well as their employees. Work-related activities once performed in dedicated offices had to be moved to private spaces of individual homes, severely influencing how people use their residential space. Living and working conditions have been modified and the balance between them – interrupted. In this paper the authors present a study of the changes in the use of residential space based on questionnaires addressed to respondents in five age groups (up to 25, 26-35, 36-50, 51-65, more than 65), and living or studying in and around Milan (Lombardy), an area affected severely by Covid-19 between March and May 2020. The obtained questionnaire results have allowed the authors to create a set of apartment design requirements, which improve the performance of space. Research has led to a model-case study apartment.
Pandemia Covid-19 zmusiła do przejścia w tryb pracy zdalnej rzesze pracowników. Czynności dotychczas wykonywane w przeznaczonych do tego biurach, zostały przeniesione do prywatnych przestrzeni indywidualnych domów, co wpłynęło na sposób, w jaki ludzie wykorzystują przestrzeń mieszkalną. Warunki życia i pracy uległy zmianie, a dotychczasowa równowaga między nimi – zaburzeniu. W niniejszej pracy autorzy przedstawiają badania zmian zachodzących w użytkowaniu przestrzeni mieszkalnej na podstawie ankiet skierowanych do respondentów w pięciu grupach wiekowych (do 25 lat, 26-35 lat, 36-50 lat, 51-65 lat, powyżej 65 lat), mieszkających lub uczących się w Mediolanie (Lombardia) i jego okolicach, na obszarach silnie dotkniętych przez Covid-19 w okresie od marca do maja 2020 roku. Uzyskane wyniki pozwoliły autorom na opracowanie zestawu wymogów dotyczących projektowania mieszkań, uwzględniając domową przestrzeń biurową. Badania doprowadziły do realizacji modelowego mieszkania.
