The author discusses the reasons for the integration o f Austria with the European Community/ European Union, primarily emphasizing political issues. Applying the criteria o f chronology and different issues, she discusses the most important stages and matters that were decisive in the process o f Austria’s accession to the EU. The specific situation o f this state followed from its geopolitical position and neutral status. These factors determined the negotiation process. The paper also illustrates the fact that Austria’s membership of EU structures raises controversy, can be troublesome, and forces the EU to come up with legal solutions and political decisions that help avoid pitfalls in its functioning.
Autorka prezentuje motywy integracji Austrii z WE/UE akcentując przede wszystkim kwestie polityczne. W oparciu o kryterium chronologiczno-problemowe omawia najważniejsze etapy i rozstrzygające zagadnienia towarzyszące procesowi wstępowania Austrii do UE. Szczególna sytuacja tego państwa wynikała z geopolitycznego położenia oraz statusu neutralności. Czynniki te determinowały proces negocjacyjny. Z artykułu wynika także, że obecność Austrii w strukturach Unii Europejskiej wzbudza dyskusje, bywa kłopotliwa i wymusza potrzebę tworzenia rozwiązań prawnych oraz podejmowania decyzji politycznych, które przyczynią się do omijania raf w funkcjonowaniu UE.

Prosumers are the part of new type of society that is being gradually created together with the process of energy transition into environmentally friendly model of energy system based on renewables. Prosumers are active market participants, which benefit from the energy transition. These informed consumers can, through their choices, drive development of green energy and support environment protection. Their active role in energy system entails certain challenges related to the economic and technical issues. Therefore, there is need to implement appropriate legal basis to regulate involvement of consumers on the market as well as to develop new technologies and infrastructure in order to enable them an access to the system. These actions collectively aim to strengthen national economy and ensure security of energy supply.

The election of the head of state in Austria in 2016 was in many ways a breakthrough and its course was surprising. Norbert Hofer, a right-wing populist candidate of the Freedom Party of Austria, made it to the second round of presidential election. Technical problems related to the organisation of the presidential election postponed the final decision until December 2016. The aim of this article is to present the main elements of the populist narrative propagated by the FPÖ during the election campaign. The party reached for a well-known arsenal of means, trying to convince voters to their candidate. It underlined the protection of national identity, the defence of the interests of Austria in the European Union, declarations of strengthening the position of president and the inclusion of the people in the governing through direct democracy. The populist rhetoric recurred as well to its permanent elements: criticism of the establishment and the conspiracy theory of the Austrian elite aiming to prevent or postpone the victory of a FPÖ candidate.

Nowadays, Austria is facing significant challenges in implementing integrational policy towards immigrants It’s basic assumption is to enethe economic inclusion as soon as possible. On the other hand, the integration program generates quite high costs, and this fact is repeatedly used in public discussion. The emerging soccismscepticism towards immigration has become one of the reasons for the electoral success of the far right, which is considered to be the anti-immigrant Freedom Party of Austria. The article undertakes an analysis of a selected topic, including several aspects: the attitude of political parties towards the so-called immigration issues, the nature of election campaigns and government initiatives on Austria’s immigration policy. On the other hand, the questions raised in the paper concern the following issunce whenidis the change in the nature of public discussion in Austria come about, under what influence have the factors of anti-immigrant rhetoric intensified and what are the effects of such rhetoric? Another important issue is whether nly Freedom Party of Austria remains the only carrier of such rhetoric.
Współcześnie w Austrii realizowana jest polityka integracyjna. Podstawowym jej założeniem jest jak najszybsza ekonomiczna inkluzja imigrantów. Program integracji cudzoziemców generuje dość duże koszty, a fakt ten coraz częściej wykorzystywany jest w publicznej dyskusji. Pojawiający się sceptycyzm społeczny wobec imigracji stał się jedną z przyczyn sukcesów wyborczych skrajnie prawicowej, uchodzącej za antyimigrancką Wolnościowej Partii Austrii. W artykule podjęto analizę wybranego tematu z uwzględnieniem kilku aspektów: stosunku partii politycznych wobec tzw. kwestii imigranckiej, charakteru kampanii wyborczych oraz inicjatyw rządowych dotyczących polityki imigracyjnej Austrii. Postawione pytania dotyczą natomiast następujących kwestii: od kiedy mamy do czynienia ze zmianą charakteru publicznej dyskusji w Austrii, pod wpływem jakich czynników antyimigrancka retoryka uległa intensyfikacji oraz jakie są skutki takiej retoryki? Istotną pozostaje również kwestia czy nośnikiem takiej retoryki pozostaje wyłącznie Wolnościowa Partia Austrii.

ABSTRACT RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the paper is to redefine “confessionality” in religious education in Austrian schools, regarding to changing circumstances. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODOLOGY: The paper describes the history of confessional religious education in Austria, which gets several problems in different school-situations. In some schools, there are 8 and more sorts of confessional religious education. After the description of possible alternatives, a proposal of redefining confessional education is presented. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The paper starts with an overview of the history and the actual situation of religious education in Austrian schools. Currently 13 recognised religions and denominations in Austria provide religious education. In some situations religious education becomes impossible due to insufficient student numbers. So the state and religious communities will have to try and establish new models of teaching. The main part of the paper consists of pros and cons in the conceptual considerations of confessionality. RESEARCH RESULTS: It is a challenge to rethink confessional religious education: religious communities will have to take joint responsibility and provide religious education as a service to students with clear denominational features. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS: There are three first steps very necessary in the next future: Commitment of the religious communities to religious education; a new concept to try at several locations; practical support concerning multi-religious events.

In order to assess the challenges and needs of Austrian companies with respect to current business and technological developments, a regular well-researched compilation of empirical data of the Austrian manufacturing industry is necessary. Hence, a panel of 104 decisionmakers (owners, CEOs, managing directors and plant managers) from leading Austrian industrial companies was assembled in form of an “industry panel” to investigate current issues of production work in Austria by means of a survey. In order to allow for a longitudinal study, it is planned to survey the same group of people every year; hence the instrument of an annual panel-survey was chosen. To date the panel consists of 104 leaders from different Austrian or international companies with at least one factory location in Austria. The panel was assembled first in 2018/2019 and the administered survey contained 23 questions. The actual questions comprise topics that concern the current economic situation and future expectations, operational issues with respect to delivery time, product variability and demand fluctuations, as well as questions relating to innovation, automation and the application of current technological developments (i.e. assistance systems, machine learning, etc.) in manufacturing. This paper presents the survey results and conclusions of the 2019 panel on production work in Austria.

W dwudziestoleciu międzywojennym Austria nie była zaliczana do głównych kierunków polskiej polityki zagranicznej. Podobnie lokowała się Polska w austriackich priorytetach politycznych. Na całokształcie relacji bilateralnych wyraźnie zaciążyły kwestie ekonomiczne, związane w dużym stopniu z komplementarnością gospodarek, zwłaszcza w początkowym okresie funkcjonowania obu państw sukcesyjnych. Oznaczało to, iż po początkowych zakłóceniach we wzajemnych relacjach nie występowały znaczące problemy polityczne. Dla polskiej dyplomacji placówka w Wiedniu stała się jednak ważnym miejscem dla monitorowania europejskiej sceny politycznej oraz utrzymywania kontaktów międzynarodowych. Przed spodziewanym połączeniem Austrii z Niemcami Polska dążyła do zabezpieczenia swoich interesów gospodarczych na jej terenie, a jej stanowisko w sprawie Anschlussu nie odbiegało od stanowisk mocarstw europejskich.
In the interwar period, Austria was not included among the main directions of Polish foreign policy. Poland was similarly located among the Austrian political priorities. Bilateral issues have been significantly affected by economic issues, largely connected with the complementarity of both economies, especially in the initial period of functioning of the both successive states. This meant that after initial disturbances in mutual relations, there were no significant political problems. However, for the Polish diplomacy, the Vienna outpost has become an important place for monitoring the European political scene and for maintaining international contacts. Before the expected merger with Germany, Poland sought to secure its economic interests in Austria and its position regarding the issue of Anschluss did not diverge from that of the European powers.
