Popular studies of internal diversity of the Polish language mention the variant called biolect at times. The notion of biolect has covered variants of language depending on the user’s gender or age to this date. The author of this text proposes the term to be expanded by a variant of language characterised by various speech disorders. The suggested name of the variant is dyslect. The internal division of a dyslect is based on speech disorder classifi cations applied in speech therapy, i.e. dyslalia, stuttering, aphasia, dysarthria, oligophasia, schizophasia, dyslexia and dysgraphia.

Substantial changes underwent by Polish society during the last eighteen years have posed important challenges for the national system of education. Although numerous attempts have been taken to adjust it to the contemporary social, political, cultural, and economic changes, including massive systemic reform introduced in 2000, a huge discrepancy between the kind of support students receive in schools and the necessities they have to meet outside the educational system is still clearly visible. Three basic challenges: globalization, democratization, and civil society building will be discussed in relationship to educational management as main factors for educational success.

The aim of this paper is to analyse by means of spectral analysis cyclical changes in statistical indicators reflecting the development of Poland's economy in the period of 1975-2002. The dynamics of the aggregate economic activity is reflected by the General Coincident Indicator (GCI), developed by Z. Matkowski. It is a proxy to the non-existent monthly GDP statistics, calculated as a weighted average of indexes showing the output of sales volumes in five major sectors of economy: industry, construction, agriculture, transports, and trade, weighted by their yearly shares in GDP. The component series have been compiled from the official statistics. The paper is a follow-up study to our earlier research (Łuczyński and Matkowski, 1999) on the subject. However, this study brings new results based on updated time series and it employs another concept of growth cycle, which is now analysed in terms of growth rates rather than trend deviations.

The Acquisition of Polish GrammarEvery human language has its grammar. The grammar allows the information involved in speech acts to take on an appropriate form and assures the coherence of statements. Acquisition of grammar rules begins early in a child’s life. In the beginning a child listens to adults and codes the features of language. Some months later a child starts to speak by using the simplest syntactic units (holophrasis). When the syntactic units became more complex, a child starts to use multiword utterances and words as units containing morphemes. A child’s grammar grows richer and more complicated as the child grows older. It is difficult to precisely describe the acquisition after the third year of life. The complexity of economic processes is reflected in the time series which register their state. Not all the aspects of the economic process can be registered. In order to obtain the useful information from statistical data, it is necessary to apply many labor-consuming and sophisticated procedures. Economic conditions are represented by objective processes, such as industrial production, product prices, export and import, employment and unemployment, job vacancies, etc. on the one hand, and behavioural modes of businessmen and consumers, their assessments and expectations as regards prices, sales, employment, and other economic indexes on the other hand. So we are dealing with objective facts (quantitative data) and subjective facts (qualitative data). Moreover, the analysed processes are all interdependent. Such a situation requires extreme methodological flexibility - a sort of methodological eclecticism. In view of the multidimensional object, the use of merely one method may yield a distorted image. That is why several different methods have been used in this study: the naive no-change method, simple linear regression, auto-regressive (integrated) moving-average model (ARMA and ARIMA), and artificial neuronal networks.

William of Malmesbury’s “Fortune” (Gesta Rerum Anglorum II 12) – An Attempt at a New Interpretation The article constitutes an attempt to interpret one of the newly discovered source texts concerning mediaeval Slavdom, which is William of Malmesbury’s Chronicle of English Kings. The author analyzes a passage devoted to the cult of “Fortune” among the pagan Lutici tribes which is described in a fragment of the chapter ‘De Henrico Imperatore’ devoted to the allies of the empire. The fragment in question concerns the Veletis – the pagan allies of emperor Henry III in the years 1045–1055. On the basis of an analysis of the description of prophesies from the horn of the statue of Fortune, the author tries to justify a hypothesis that the presently missing German source of this fragment (dating back to the middle of the 11th c.) was based on a 15th c. book ‘Diversarum hereseon liber’ by Filastrius of Brixen, an early mediaeval author of the 4th/5th century, whereas the cult described by William of Malmesbury concerned a female goddess with uranic-pluvial connotations (whose proper name had been substituted in the Roman interpretation by “Fortune”) in one of the cities of the northern Veletis.

Business forecasting is usually encumbered with a considerable risk of error. The risk can be diminished by demarcation of fuzzy trends. Forecasting within a certain interval increases the probability that the expected value will fall into the foreseen interval. The above method has been applied to forecat the situation in Poland's manufacturing and construction on the basis of survey data. The results for the first quarter of 1994 point to a considerable indefiniteness of the situation in food industry and in construction. This is a result of the high degree of dependence of those sectors upon external factors. The forecasting method discussed in the article is subject to some constrains, such as the assumption of linear additive relationships. When the relationship between the explanatory and explained variables are not linear, the above method proves inefficient.

The purpose of the article is to review the question of the use of the Proto-Polish ethnonym Polanie. According to the opinion traditionally adopted in historiography, this name referred to one of the tribes inhabiting GreaterPoland (the territories of Kuyavia) whose territorial conquests led to the establishment of the Polish State. On the basis of a semantic analysis of the earliest written occurrences of this name, the author develops the thesisthat it originally designated a tribe residing in the western part of Lesser Poland, and only at the beginning of the 11th century, again, it came to denote the ‘inhabitants of Poland’ (understood as the state of Bolesław I the Brave).

The mutagenicity of two, newly synthesized amino-derivatives of cyclopenta[c]phenanthrene (CP[c]Ph) was investigated in the Ames test using TA98 and TA100 histidine dependent Salmonella typhimurium strains. Neither of the examined compounds showed mutagenic activity without metabolic activation. The incorporation of an activation system caused high mutagenicity of CP[c]Ph derivatives in both S. typhimurium strains. The results are compared with the previous data on the mutagenic activity of unsubstituted CP[c]Ph and possible mechanisms of activation are discussed.

The article is dedicated to the analysis and semantic interpretation of a monument referred to as the Zbruch Idol, discovered in 1848 near Liczkowce in the Ukraine. The author offers arguments in favour of the thesis that the artefact is a quadruple female made of stone by the Cumans in the late 13th/ early 14th century, and that the idol is a synthesis of the Turkish sepulchral sculpture.

Opis:
Gynogenetic northern pike (Esox lucius L.) were produced using UV irradiated sperm and heat shock applied to inseminated eggs shortly after gamete activation. Milt was diluted in immobilizing solution (1:9) and UV irradiated (6.4 W*m-2) for 2-20 min, with dosage in the range of 768-7680 J*m-2. Genetic inactivation of spermatozoa was most efficient when milt was irradiated for 8 min (3072 J*m-2). Insemination of eggs with irradiated milt yielded 100% haploid larvae with hatching rate at 72.1۪.8% (mean±SD), expressed as a percentage of inseminated eggs. Haploid embryo developed and most of them hatched (showing "haploid syndrome") but all haploid larvae died within 48 hours after hatching. After insemination with irradiated sperm the eggs were exposed to a thermal shock of 34°C or 34.5°C, lasting 3 or 5 min, applied 11-16 min after gamete activation. The efficiency of heat shock and survival in experimental groups significantly depended on the source (individual female effect) and quality of eggs. The time of application and duration of the heat shock also affected the survival of embryo and percentage of gynogenetic larvae. Gynogenetic larvae were obtained in all experimental groups with hatching rate as high as 24.2ۭ.6%.

This can be achieved, among others, by setting adequate goals and planning educational actions in a precise way.

Healthcare professionals are exposed not only to the ubiquitous stress, but also to the culture of perfectionism. Therefore, they need tools to achieve a balance between work and rest in order to effectively help their patients. The study objective is a review of the literature on the implementation of mindfulness in healthcare professionals and medical students. The authors searched the literature in PubMed and Google Scholar databases for publications about “mindfulness” in “healthcare professionals” and “medical students.” The search included manuscripts published to July 31, 2019. Mindfulness is a process of intentional paying attention to experiencing the present moment with curiosity, openness and acceptance of each experience without judgment. Mindfulness training leads to a better mood perception, lower stress perception, and responding to stimuli more effectively. All these features can have a potentially positive effect on healthcare service. The paper describes methods of intervention as well as their effects, which may be useful both in maintaining the well-being of healthcare professionals and in patient care. Mindfulness meditation has a beneficial effect on stress, depression, burnout, well-being and empathy among doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers. However, the method has a number of limitations, including a small number of participants, a high dropout rate in the intervention group and, above all, ceasing to practice mindfulness in the longer term after the course termination. Mindfulness can be widely implemented by healthcare professionals, thus improving their well-being and the quality of care they provide. Further standard scientific research is needed to confirm this impact.

Opis:
Pomiaru ilościowego gazu przepływającego systemem gazociągów magistralnych czy też dystrybucyjnych dokonuje się najczęściej na stacjach gazowych. W artykule autorzy dokonali charakterystyki różnych typów gazomierzy wraz z podaniem zasady działania, zakresu stosowania oraz dokładności pomiaru. Omówiono następujące typy gazomierzy: - gazomierze zwężkowe, - gazomierze turbinowe, - gazomierze rotorowe, - gazomierze miechowe, - gazomierze ultradźwiękowe, - gazomierze działające w oparciu o siłę Coriolisa, - termiczne, - optyczne. Autorzy zwrócili uwagę, że przy wyborze przepływomierza należy kierować się nie tylko zakresem pomiarowym ale także i pewnymi specyficznymi cechami, które mogą być jego zaletą lub wadą. Na podstawie studiów literatury z zakresu stosowania przepływomierzy autorzy zestawili pozytywne i negatywne cechy najczęściej stosowanych przepływomierzy.
The quantitative measurement of gas in the master pipelines or distribution pipelines is usually made on gas stations. Three types of gas meters were characterized in the paper along with their principle, range of application and accuracy of measurement. The following types of gas meters were discussed: - Contraction gas meters, - Turbine gas meters, - Rotary gas meters, - Bellows gas meters, - Ultrasound gas meters, - Gas meters based on Coriolis force, - Thermal gas meters, - Optic gas meters. The authors stressed that the gas meter should be selected on the basis of the range of measurement and also certain specific parameters, which can be either advantageous or disadvantageous. The positive and negative features of the most frequently applied flow meters were presented on the basis of literature data.

We have constructed and tested a device for incubation of individual eggs of fish. We measured the diameter of fertilized and water hardened eggs of vendace (Coregonus albula). Each egg developed in a separate incubator, which was a modified Pasteur pipette. Incubation of 315 eggs resulted in 249 hatched embryos (eleutheroembryos). The technique enabled identification of each eleutheroembryo hatching from a given egg. Example of relationship between external diameter of egg and the length of eleutheroembryo showed potential applications of the technique in studies on fish reproduction biology.

During the Triassic/Jurassic boundary interval and in the Jurassic, the Triassic carbonate platforms occupying the northern shelf of the Western Tethys were subjected to disintegration. Record of these processes in the Alpine-Carpathian area is incomplete and contains a number of stratigraphic gaps. In the High-Tatric succession of the Tatra Mountains (Central Western Carpathians) stratigraphic gaps expressed by unconformity surfaces occur between the Triassic and the Middle Jurassic. In particular areas, the Triassic is directly overlain by the Dudziniec Formation (Sinemurian-Bajocian), the Smolegowa Formation (Bajocian), the Krupianka Formation (Bathonian) or the Raptawicka Turnia Formation (Callovian-Hauterivian). The occurrence of Bajocian and Bathonian deposits is limited to isolated lenticular bodies or to infillings of neptunian dykes penetrating the Triassic. Spatial relations between particular Jurassic lithosomes and the occurrence of stratigraphic gaps between particular units allow discerning four main unconformities. In the stratigraphical order these are: base of the Dudziniec Format ion (erosional unconformity), base of the Smolegowa Formation (penacordance or parat conformity), base of the Krupianka Format ion (erosional unconformity) and base of the Raptawicka Turnia Formation (drowning unconformity). Following episodes of erosion modified the previously developed unconformity surfaces, which resulted in complex modern architecture of the Triassic/Jurassic contact, as well as between particular Jurassic formations.

The aim of this study was to determine the potential benefits of using UAV-based data to verify the accuracy of the geometry of the outlines of buildings registered in a cadastral database, and to investigate the potential use of data from UAV platforms in measuring the buildings. The authors examined whether the acquisition of data from UAVs can replace field measurements or only support them. The advantages and disadvantages of such data acquisition methods, compared with more well-established measurement methods, were identified.

The aim of this study was to compare physiological responses in Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baeri) induced by propofol and CO2 anaesthesia. Two procedures were applied during the experiment. In procedure I, blood samples were collected immediately after exposure (1, 2, 5, 10 min) to the anaesthetic. In procedure II, fish were exposed to the anaesthetic for 10 minutes and then were moved to anaesthetic free water. Blood was sampled after 5, 10, 20 or 30 min of recovery time. Gasometrical and biochemical analyses were performed on collected blood. In CO2 anaesthetized fish strong hypercapnic acidosis was revealed. The drop of the HCO3-/CO2 ratio, from 28:1 in control fish up to 4:1 in CO2 anaesthetized ones, proved that the compensation mechanism is not capable of preventing acidosis during CO2 anaesthesia in Siberian sturgeon. In contrast, only moderate, respiratory acidosis occurred in sturgeons anaesthetised with propofol. Hypercapnic acidosis during CO2 anaesthesia was followed by a fourfold increase of ammonia level in the blood. Glucose level, increasing only during recovery time, indicates that a secondary stress response occurred when awareness of anaesthetized fish had been restored.

The composite indicators of general business activity for Poland (GCI1, GCI2, GCI5), based on monthly data for major sectors of the economy covering the period of 1975-1995, have been subject to spectral analysis using the Turkey-Hanning and Parzen windows in order to discriminate periodic fluctuations. Apart from the seasonal oscillations seen in the raw data, the time series smoothed by ARIMA display distinct spectral peaks at low frequencies corresponding to the range of 72-144 months and less pronounced peaks for the period of 36 months. This may suggest the existence of major (Juglar - type) cycles seen in the detrended GCI1, GCI2 and GCI5 time series. Using the OECD PAT procedure for the identification of turning points reveals a well pronounced business cycle for the length of 9-10 years, splitted by a minor cycle of ca 3 years. However, due to the relatively short period of observation, these findings should be verified by further research.

The author presents the results of an empirical analysis of indices of economic activity based on a sample investigation which was conducted in manufacturing industry from June 1992 to September 1995. The analysis confirms the thesis that the qualitative indiced are highly sensible to changes that occur in both enterprises and the economy. Hennce, they can be useful for diagnostic as well as forecasting purposes. Indices of economic climate as well as those of economic perception display a high degree of compatibility with the real dynamics of production. However, the time series available are too short for the determination of lags and leads between them, and thereby for the determination of the predictive value of qualitative indices.

Praca prezentuje zastosowanie układu mikrokanałów do konstrukcji przepływowego wiskozymetru o zminimalizowanych wymaganiach dotyczących objętości badanej próbki. Istotą jego działania jest obserwacja granicy kontaktu strumieni cieczy badanej i referencyjnej w mikrokanale i odniesienie jej pozycji do stosunków lepkości tych cieczy. Otrzymane wyniki pomiarów tak przebadanej cieczy jonowej zostały potwierdzone techniką pasywnej mikroreologii optycznej wskazując na możliwość wykorzystania obydwu technik do pomiarów, w których minimalizacja objętości próbki ma kluczowe znaczenie.
The application of microchannel-based flow-through viscometer characterized by minimized sample volume requirements is presented in the paper. The measurement was performed by the observation of laminar fluid-fluid interphase between two liquids and relating its position to viscosity ratio of both liquids. The obtained results were cross-checked with the passive optical rheometry showing a possibility of using these two techniques in case when a small sample volume is crucial.

Land consolidation plays an important role in rural areas management by stimulating the areas to develop and contributing in particular to the creation of favourable conditions for agriculture. Land consolidation process enables to form a new state of ownership and is crucial for the improvement of area structure of Polish agricultural holdings. Efficient rural areas management necessitates reliable information about property boundaries. Determination of property rights requires a precise space delineation of those rights by establishing the position of parcel boundaries, which determines future land utilization and possible directions of property development. Clear, unequivocal and reliable establishment of boundaries determines the feasibility of future investments, particularly in the field of technical and social infrastructure. The paper presents technological and legal aspects of the performance of geodetic works concerning the establishment of the position of boundary points in the proceedings of land consolidation. In the study there were examined existing legislation and technical regulations relating to the process of land consolidation. The records were examined in terms of land demarcation procedure, led particularly by district governor, in relations to the outer boundaries of land consolidation area and in terms of establishment, indication and marking on the ground of newly planned boundary points, resulting from land consolidation project. Theoretical research was confronted experimentally based on the selected land consolidation object. Conducted theory and practice research allowed to submit proposals for changes to the binding land consolidation procedure.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie poglądu ludzi starszych na temat współczesnej polszczyzny i zmian w niej następujących. Materiału na potrzeby niniejszych analiz dostarczyły badania ankietowe, przeprowadzone w grupie 43 osób w wieku od 57 do 83 lat. Starsi ludzie wykazują żywe zainteresowanie tym, co się dzieje w dzisiejszej polszczyźnie, co potwierdzają zarówno same wyniki ankiety, jak również chętny udział respondentów w badaniu. Seniorzy żywo reagują na aktualne zjawiska pojawiające się w języku, są w stanie wskazać je wskazać, ocenić i skomentować.
The aim of the article is to present older people's opinions on the contemporary Polish language and the changes occurring in it. The research material comes from a survey conducted in a group of 43 people aged 57 to 83. Older people show a keen interest in what is happening in today's Polish. This is confirmed by the results of the questionnaire as well as by the willing participation of respondents in the survey. Seniors react vividly to current phenomena taking place in the language. They are able to indicate them, evaluate and offer comments on them.
