Opis:
The article presents the findings of research on preschool and early elementary teachers’ knowledge of gifted students’ psychosocial characteristics and on methods of identifying them in a peer group. First, the Author makes some terminological comments on the gifted student concept and cognate terms, and – based on the literature on the subject - provides a psychosocial description of gifted children and the methods of identifying them. A diagnostic poll was the method used in the research and the participants were surveyed with the survey questionnaire Test on Gifted Education, designed by the Author. The research findings showed that the preschool and early elementary teachers participating in the research rightly saw gifted students as creative and inquisitive individuals with a high IQ on the one hand, and on the other hand, relatively stereotypically, as good, well-behaved students. It should be pointed out that all children – both gifted and non-gifted ones – may have emotional and social problems that may effectively conceal a child’s giftedness; however, the participants – especially the early elementary teachers – seemed to perceive the occurrence of behavior issues among gifted children to a significantly smaller extent, which could reinforce the popular view of gifted children in their opinions. On the other hand, the usefulness of all the methods of identifying gifted students was assessed positively, which could be helpful and favorable for identifying gifted children to later support their development in a broad way.
Pozytywnie natomiast wypada ocena przydatności wszystkich sposobów identyfikacji uczniów zdolnych, co byłoby pomocne do prawidłowego wskazania jednostki zdolnej w celu późniejszego wszechstronnego wspierania jej rozwoju.

Ensuring that gifted individuals receive differentiated and enhanced education, which is suitable for their areas of skills and developmental characteristics, will contribute to revealing their skills and developing their multiple developmental areas to bring them to upper levels. The purpose of this study is to determine the needs of gifted individuals by  developing a curriculum which considers their educational needs. In the scope of this study, interviews were made with ten parents using the Snowball Sapling Method. The questionnaires used in the interviews were prepared in a semi-structured manner in light of variables determined from the literature on the subject . Interviews were made by  two researchers. The two researchers assessed data obtained separately; and thus, codes of study were obtained. Themes were formed according to common components of the codes. Three main themes were formed on needs analysed in light of data obtained from the  literature on the topic. These themes were  “Characteristics of Gifted Individuals”; “School and Expectations from It”; and “Being Parents of Gifted Individuals”. These themes were separated into sub-themes.The parents explained “different behaviour patterns of their gifted children”, “characteristic of their children” and “situations their gifted children like/do not like” in the “Characteristics of Gifted Individuals” theme. The  “School and Expectations from It” theme consisted of two sub-themes, which were  “satisfaction of parents with  school”, and “expectations of parents from school”. In the “Being Parents of Gifted Individuals” theme, the parents explained, “their concerns ”, “their regrets”, “the difficulties they have with their children”, and “their complaints”. Results of this study led to initialising a curriculum development study for gifted children which is based on their characteristics and needs.

Despite a high number of studies on students’ images of scientists, there is a lack of research on gifted students’ perceptions of scientists in the research literature. The aim of this study was to investigate gifted students’ perceptions of scientists and stereotypical images of scientists. The participants were 42 gifted students. The Draw-a-Scientist Test (DAST) was used to collect data. The findings demonstrated that gifted students had a variety of stereotypical images of scientists. The findings also showed that students’ drawings included fewer indicators of the stereotypic model on average. The drawings of fourth-grade students included more elements when compared to fifth-grade students’ drawings. As a result, it was found that there are some findings different from previous research. Considering the findings obtained from this study, this study has provided findings for teachers and science educators.

Opis:
The introduction of remote learning during the coronavirus pandemic has changed the way of working with gifted students. The article presents the results of a survey conducted among parents of gifted students aged 10–15 years. The parents filled out an electronic questionnaire containing both open- and closed-ended questions. Data were collected on 1,477 gifted children. The aim of the research is to diagnose the opportunities, possibilities, and limitations of the development of gifted students aged 10–15 (grades 4–8, secondary education) under the distance learning during the pandemic. The subject of the study is an analysis of selected elements of educating gifted students during the pandemic. The results indicate that 36.8% of students had comfortable conditions for remote learning (their own computer and room and a good Internet connection). The students’ involvement in learning and independence were differentiated by their ability. The girls were significantly more involved than the boys and were statistically significantly more independent. The students’ involvement correlated positively with their independence. The main themes of the parents’ statements regarding the possibilities and advantages of remote education were saving time, developing and strengthening academic competences, developing existing or acquiring new skills, maintaining children’s safety and using IT tools during online learning. The students mainly developed their interests and abilities on their own, often with the support of the family, using the media or referring to online resources. No systemic support for gifted students was indicated.

The aim of the research was to construct a scale of teachers’ attitudes toward the education of gifted students that could identify the types and predictors of attitudes. The research was prompted by the current lack of tools with good psychometric parameters. A questionnaire was prepared for the needs of an international comparative study on teachers (N = 630) from six Central and Eastern European countries: Belarus, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine. The theoretical models of giftedness and empirical data both indicated the important role teachers play in the development of students’ giftedness. The teachers’ characteristics were somewhat ambiguous. The article describes the assumptions, construction stages, and validation results of the questionnaire, which contained 64 statements (items) selected from a wide range of opinions after thorough substantive and linguistic consultations. The fundamental descriptive statistics for each item were analyzed. The final selection of items occurred as a result of confirmatory factor analysis, which did not demonstrate sufficient fit between the questionnaire’s theoretical structure and the data. Exploratory factor analysis, on the other hand, allowed for the version of the questionnaire with a three-factor structure to be adopted. Three types of attitudes were identified regarding gifted students’ education: one expressing a negative attitude and two positive ones. As a result of the validation, a scale of attitudes was created with appropriate psychometric characteristics, consisting of 33 items. Further studies are being conducted to interpret the three dimensions of the scale and the variables that differentiate them.

Aim: the goal of this study is to investigate the motivational structure of participants of Chemistry Olympiad summer camps. The participants are young students who achieved  the best results in chemistry olympiads. Chemistry is one of the least popular subjects among czech students and therefore is important to understand what motivates extraordinary, or gifted students, to learn. Methods: participants (N=38) completed a combination of qualitative and/or quantitative questionnaires. The primary questionnaire, known as the Motivational Induction Method (MIM), is a quality-quantitative questionnaire that uses the principle of open-ended questions. This method can provided a deep understanding of participants´ plans, desires and wishes but also fears, inhibitions or problems. Other questionnaires used were: the Learning Motivation questionnaire and the Achievement Motivation questionnaire which measure the sources of motivation and proportion of achievement needs, respectively. Result: the MIM questionnaire, providing qualitative-quantitative analysis, showed that participants´motivation was mainly focused on self (identity) and contact with others (social motivation). The Learning Motivation questionnaires revealed that the two most important motivational sources for learning chemistry were: one, the acquisition of a good profession in the future (instrumental motivation); and two, cognitive movitavation, or simply the positive feeling one experiences from learning something new.  The Achievement Motivational questionnaires revealed that participants´ need to avoid failure was lower in comparison to general pupils.

Opis:
Dominujące obecnie w teorii i praktyce edukacji uczniów zdolnych i utalentowanych podejście zakłada wspólne kształcenie wszystkich uczniów, niezależnie od ich potencjałów. Zróżnicowane klasy szkolne powinny odzwierciedlać strukturę i cechy coraz bardziej heterogenicznych społeczeństw.
The approach that is currently dominant in the theory and practice of educating gifted and talented students is to educate all students together, regardless of their potentials. Diverse classrooms should reflect the structure and characteristics of increasingly heterogeneous societies. The article discusses the changes occurring in the pedagogy of abilities that led to the formation of the inclusive paradigm. However, teachers’ opinions regarding the grouping of students by ability are mixed. Empirical research shows that the lower the effectiveness and level of general education in schools, the higher the approval for pedagogical selection. This regularity was confirmed in international comparative studies conducted among teachers in six European countries (N=630). Teachers from Poland are opposed to educating gifted students in special classes or schools at a level significantly higher than the respondents from Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Bulgaria and Romania.

This article focuses on the functioning of gifted students during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The subject of interest are the developmental opportunities created for them during online learning, the well-being of students, the problems they were confronted with, and above all – their condition after the lockdown ended. This issue was explored by analysing research on gifted students carried out during and after the pandemic in Poland as well in other countries, by studying ministerial recommendations regarding working with gifted students and materials for teachers, as well as by comparing the situation of students during the lockdown with their needs presented in scientific literature. On this basis, conclusions were drawn regarding the impact of the pandemic on the functioning of gifted students, while taking into account the significant diversity of this group as well as the fact that, apart from the often analysed negative consequences, lockdown also had some beneficial effects. The observations made should be taken into consideration after coming back to full-time education; the article contains specific suggestions for pedagogical practice.

Fostering learner autonomy is undoubtedly one of the most important goals of foreign language education in Poland, which is evidenced by the fact that it has been included in the current national curriculum, it figures prominently in virtually all available syllabi, and modern coursebooks include numerous elements intended to assist its implementation. It should be made clear, however, that the development of an autonomous approach to language learning is by no means an easy task, the success of which is to a large extent dependent on a particular student. Thus, the aim of the present paper is to demonstrate how autonomy can be effectively promoted in the case of exceptional learners, both such who are successful and such for whom learning a foreign language poses a formidable challenge.

This paper presents partial results of a comparative research aimed at developing professional competencies of teachers with an emphasis on activities with children with special educational needs, including gifted children. The aim was to determine whether there are differences between teachers with different length of teaching experience and students - future teachers in the subjective assessment of their performance in selected professional activities. We also investigated whether there is a correlation between variables (length and difficulty of teaching experience of professional activity). The research instrument was a questionnaire of our own design. The sample included 318 respondents: teachers with different length of teaching experience (n = 160) and master’s students of faculties of MBU** (n = 158). The data obtained were processed using descriptive statistics with many variables tools and interpreted at the chosen level of statistical significance (p <0.05). The results indicate the presence of statistically significant differences between the two groups and the presence of correlations between variables. It provides a firm foundation for the necessary changes in undergraduate teacher training and preparation for the implementation of inclusive education.
