    The aim of the article is to present the issues of the archives of canons chapters in the legal and canonical aspect. Chapters are required to keep their archives. The first part of the article provides the canonical definition of the chapter archive as well as its goals and tasks. The second part presents the issues of the chapter archival resource, while the last part presents the chapter office of the canon responsible for the archives.

    Originally, the members of cathedral chapters were organizationally and structurally divided into two categories: general prelates and canons. During the early stages of organization, prelatures were simultaneously dignities and capitular offices. After the Middle Ages, however, prelatures ceased to be offices and became titular dignities instead. Due to the evolution of the structure and the development of the organization of the chapters and the ways in which they functioned, it was necessary to appoint new officials who were independent of the particular dignities. From the moment that the college of prelates and canons was founded and established in Vilnius, they functioned and acted in spiritualibus and in temporalibus by following the example of the chapter in Cracow that had existed for centuries and adapted the practices to the local conditions of Vilnius. This influence is very clear in the selection and competencies of the officials chosen for the Cathedral Chapter of Vilnius. Among the officials chosen before the partition of Poland took place, those who had the most lasting effects were the capitular procuators, inspectors of capitular goods and property, chancellors, notaries, architivists, and deputies to the Lithuanian Tribunal.

    Kodeks etyczny archiwisty uchwalony w roku 1996 na Międzynarodowym Kongresie Archiwów w Pekinie został w Polsce przyjęty przez środowisko archiwalne i nie wzbudzał uwag krytycznych. W artykule uzasadniono potrzebę stworzenia polskiego kodeksu etycznego archiwistów na jego podstawie i uzupełnienia o trzy zasady. Ze względu na wielką wartość dokumentacji przechowywanej w archiwach polskich należałoby uznać pracę archiwalną jako służbę na rzecz państwa i obywateli, wymagającą od archiwistów szczególnego zaangażowania oraz odpowiedzialności. Personel archiwalny powinien dążyć do udoskonalania pomocy informacyjnych, istniejących w archiwach, szczególnie w odniesieniu do zespołów najcenniejszych i udostępnianych, dla lepszego zaspokajania indywidualnych potrzeb informacyjnych obywateli, prowadzących poszukiwania w archiwach. Archiwa państwowe należałoby również zobowiązać do podejmowania działań mających na celu zabezpieczenie cennych akt posiadanych przez osoby prywatne oraz przejmowania ich na warunkach uzgodnionych z właścicielami. Gdyby okazało się to niemożliwe, mogłyby starać się o sporządzenie za ich zgodą kopii cyfrowych i udostępniania na ustalonych zasadach.
    Adopted in 1996 at the International Congress on Archives in Beijing, the ICA Code of Ethics was embraced by the Polish archivist community without attracting any criticism. This paper seeks to justify the need to create an individual code of ethics for Polish archivists on the basis of the international one and supplement it with three additional principles. Due to the great value of the documentation stored in Polish archives, archival work should be considered a service for the state and citizens, which requires archivists to exhibit the utmost degree of commitment and responsibility. Archive staff should strive to improve the information aids that exist in the archives, especially with regard to the most valuable and accessible material, in order to adequately fulfil the individual information needs of citizens who search the archives. State archives should also be obliged to undertake actions aimed at securing valuable files owned by private persons and taking them over on terms agreed with the owners. Should this prove impossible, archives could attempt to digitalise such material with the owner’s consent and make them available on the agreed terms.

    W programach studiów archiwistycznych polskich uczelni są okresowe wyjazdy w celu zwiedzania archiwów. Do tej pory nie poświęcono im żadnych gruntowniejszych publikacji, dlatego powstał ten tekst. Dotyczy on wyjazdów do Lwowa studentów Uniwersytetu Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej (UMCS) najpierw specjalności archiwistycznej kierunku historycznego, a od 2012 r. archiwistyki. Organizowano je corocznie w latach 2007–2019 i uczestniczyła w nich grupa od czterech do sześciu studentów z opiekunem. Trwały przeważnie siedem dni, a ich cel stanowiło zwiedzanie lwowskich archiwów oraz bibliotek. Jednocześnie niemal każdego roku podobna grupa studentów Lwowskiego Narodowego Uniwersytetu im. Iwana Franki przyjeżdżała do Lublina i brała udział w objeździe polskich archiwów razem ze studentami UMCS. W opisywanym okresie do Lwowa wyjechało łącznie 74 studentów lubelskiej uczelni, a podobna liczba studentów lwowskich uczestniczyła w zwiedzaniu archiwów polskich. W artykule dokonano charakterystyki programu pobytu lubelskich studentów we Lwowie oraz jego realizacji. Oceniono też efekty zwiedzania, wykorzystując sprawozdania studentów, krótkie eseje, a także ich refleksje dokonywane po latach.
    Archival studies programs include periodic study visits in the modern archives. So far, no thorough publications were devoted to them, which is why this text was written. It is focused on visits to Lviv the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) students’, firstly those enrolled in the archivist specialization of the history program, then, since 2012, archival studies. They were organized annually within the period between 2007 and 2019 for groups of six students with their supervisors. The visits lasted seven days each, and their aim was to explore the archives and libraries of Lviv. Each year a similar student group of the Ukrainian University of Lviv in Honor of Ivan Franko came to Lublin and partook in the explorations of Polish archives along with the UMCS students. Over the described period, 74 students of UMCS altogether went to Lviv, and a similar number of Lviv’ students visited Polish archives. The article characterizes the visit program of the Lublin students to Lviv and its execution, and evaluates the effects of the visits with the use of the student reports, short essays as well as the assessments of visits drawn up after years.

    Archiwa kościelne są wytworem instytucji kościelnych, które gromadzą i przechowują świadectwa dotyczące przeszłości stanu posiadania i działalności prawno-kościelnej i duszpasterskiej kościelnych osób prawnych. Stanowią nie tylko dobra kultury, lecz także są prawdziwymi dobrami kościelnymi, które w odpowiedzi na wymagania kulturowe i pastoralne mają być chronione i właściwie oceniane z zachowaniem norm kanonicznych. Stąd prawodawca kościelny, powszechny czy partykularny, wydawał stosowne normy prawne regulujące tę płaszczyznę życia i działalności kościelnej. Zaprezentowane obowiązujące normy prawne odnoszące się do archiwów kościelnych przejęły wiele uregulowań, które obowiązywały w aktach normatywnych dawnego Kodeksu prawa kanonicznego z 1917 r. Określają one, że każda instytucja kościelna ma obowiązek przechowywać akta i dokumenty, które jej dotyczą. Biskup diecezjalny zobowiązany jest dbać o zachowanie dokumentów i akt, które zostały wytworzone w instytucjach jemu podległych. Ma on sprawować nadzór nad tymi archiwami. W instytucji centralnej Kościoła partykularnego, jaką jest kuria diecezjalna, powinny funkcjonować trzy archiwa: bieżące (diecezjalne), tajne i historyczne. To ostatnie archiwum jest nowym typem archiwum, które wprowadził obecnie obowiązujący Kodeks z 1983 r. Archiwum to powinien erygować biskup diecezjalny i przechowywane w nim powinny być akta i dokumenty, które posiadają wartość historyczną.
    The church archives are a product of church institutions that collect and maintain testimonies about the past ownership and legal, church and pastoral activity of church legal entities. They are not only cultural goods, bat also real church goods which, in response to cultural and pastoral requirements, are to be protected and properly assessed inaccordance with canonical norms. Hence, the ecclesiastical legislator, universal or particular, issued appropriate legal norms regulating this area of church life and activity. The presented legal norms relating to church archives have adopted many regulations that were in force in the normative acts of the former Code of Canon Law 1917. They specify that every church institution is obliged to keep files and documents related to it. The diocesan bishop is obliged to take care of the preservation of documents and files that were produced in institutions subordinate to him. He is to supervise these archives. In the central institution of a particular Church, which is the diocesan curia, there should be there archives: current (diocesan), secret and historical. The latter archive is a new type of archive, which was introduced by the currently binding Code of 1983. This archive should be erected by the diocesan bishop and records and documents of historical value should be kept in it.

    The fi gure of Professor Janusz Szczepański plays an important role in the academic community of historians of the 20th century and researchers of the history of Mazovia. His insightful research made it possible to analyze the causes, course, and effectsof the war of 1920 and contributed to the dissemination of knowledge about it. The Professor’s publications are extremely important to learning about the history of Mazovia, reconstructing the past of Mazovian cities and their communities. ProfessorSzczepański is a respected lecturer, a master for a large group of historians. He impresses with his knowledge, diligence, as well as modesty and kindness. This is worth mentioning not only on the occasion of his jubilee.

    The activity of the Prussian administration in the period of the Kulturkampf in Wielkopolska resulted among others in deposition from office of the Poznań-Gniezno archbishop, Mieczysław Ledóchowski. The estate and archives of both dioceses were in June 1874 placed in the charge of Prussian commissioners. The records - the Poznań and Gniezno consistories included - were subjected to sequestration until 1886 (the records from Gniezno were transferred to Poznań). Access to the files was granted only to Prussian officials, among them Józef Lekszycki (1818-1899), an eminent expert on Wielkopolska municipal and land registers, and genealogy. In the years 1884-1885 he inspected the sequestered records of the Poznań consistory, and gathered the results of this work in the still surviving Repertorium ueber das Archiv des Posener Erzbischo/licher General-Consistorium. While inspecting the records, J. Lekszycki took down information (which he called documenta) on the Poznań church of St. Martin for the years 1252-1798, and compiled the excerpts in a manuscript volume that survives until today titled Documenta ad Ecclesiam parochialem S. Martini. spectantia, completed in September 1888.

    Realizacja projektu „Inwentarz Archiwum Instytutu Literackiego Kultura” została przedstawiona jako podstawa do rozważań metodycznych w zakresie opracowywania zbioru rękopisów i zbiorów mieszanych. Założenia kompleksowego katalogu zbiorów ILK wraz z planem udostępniania w jednej bazie danych w ujednoliconej formule opisu oraz uzyskany w ten sposób „Inwentarz”, powinny stać się punktem wyjścia do rozważań nad podstawą opisu, granicami zbioru i jednostki, pojęciem jednostki, głębokością opisu, swobodą decyzji katalogującego, kartotekami wzorcowymi, a także strategią informacyjną instytucji zarządzającej zbiorem. Doświadczenia z pracy mieszanego zespołu bibliotekarzy i archiwistów przedstawione zostały jako przyczynek do rozbudowania kształcenia obu specjalności o otwartość na łączenie metod opracowania bibliotecznego i archiwalnego w stosunku do zbiorów mieszanych. Wskazano także perspektywę dołączenia do tych rozważań doświadczeń metodycznych z zakresu opracowania zbiorów muzealnych.
    The article presents the project „Inventory of «Kultura» Literary Institute Archives” as a base for methodological discussion on processing of the collection of manuscripts and mixed archives. There assumptions is proposed that of the complex catalogue of IKL combined with a plan for public presentation in one database in a unified description form and the „Inventory” itself should be a starting point for methodological dispute on several topics like the basis of a description, collection and unit frames, the idea of an unit, depth of description, catalogers’ freedom of decision, authority headings, but also on the information strategy of the institution’s collection management The article presents experiences of the mixed team of librarians and archivists as an assumption to proposal of extending the education of both professions with the flexibility to combine the librarian and archivist methodology in processing mixed archives. The Author also pointed out the perspective of including methodological experience of museum collections’ into discussed issues.
