Tourist traffic is a socio-economic phenomenon and it has its specific features. The increase in the pace of life has its consequences mainly in the ways of organizing free time, and it has to do with a good rest. Many definitions and classifications of tourist traffic can be found in the subject literature. The intensity of tourist traffic varies in different seasons of the year. It should be noted that in addition to the proximity of the place of residence, qualities of the natural environment have been the main motive to come to the Białowieża Forest. This has been due to such factors as the attractiveness of the area, geographic location, international events and historical conditions. Therefore, the stay in the area of the Białowieża Forest focuses mainly on its exploration, experiences, leisure and entertainment. Studies have shown that there is a clear trend towards shortening the length of stay, and a few weeks’ holiday trips to one place have a tendency virtually to disappear. At the same time, weekend trips in summer and winter are growing in popularity.

The aim of this article is to point to the phenomenon of increasing concentration of tourism in the Polish seaside regions. The study involved four port cities, located in two seaside voivodeships: West Pomeranian (Szczecin, Świnoujście) and Pomeranian (Gdańsk, Gdynia). They are cities where seaports of major importance for the national economy are located. The analysis of tourist traffic in these cities covers the years 1995–2014. This analysis formed the basis for the forecast to 2020. The results of extrapolation of trends are presented in the figures. Moreover, the procedure employed and structure of the article were adapted to the aim of this work.

The article aims to assess the territorial distribution of foreign tourist traffic in Poland and identification of provinces similar with respect to the inbound tourism structure considering the tourists’ country of origin. The analysis used well-known methods of taxonomic analysis. Foreign tourists’ arrivals to Poland are to a great extent spatially diversified. The leading provinces concerning the number of accommodated tourists are Mazowieckie and Małopolskie. The next ones, in view of the intensity of the analysed phenomenon, are the provinces of the western wall, except Lubuskie. The provinces situated mainly on the eastern wall proved to be the least numerously visited by foreign tourists. It should be also noticed that German tourists were particularly fond of the Zachodniopomorskie and Dolnośląskie provinces. Tourists from the other analyzed countries use bed places mostly in the area of the Mazowieckie and Malopolskie provinces. Russian, Ukrainian and Lithuanian tourists provide an exception, since they also travel to Podkarpackie (Ukraine), Lubuskie (Russia and Lithuania) and Dolnośląskie provinces (Russia). Obtained classification of the provinces allowed to divide them into six groups, characterized by a similar structure of foreign tourists using sleeping facilities, but also similar in view of intensity of inbound tourism. The presented results reveal a considerable degree of generality, but still they may provide an example of a simple instrument for conducting similar but more detailed studies adjusted to specific needs.

The main aim of the following dissertation is the analysis of the process of the creation the cross-border tourism product. The dilemma seems to be essential towards existing values, sights, the touristic infrastructure and the euroregions on the southern borderland. The article analyses the main elements of the process of the creation the cross- border tourism product especially on the tri-border area. The author defines the tourism product, the sights and the objectives of the cross-border cooperation in the tourism. In the second part of this text the author gives the main stages of the process of the creation the cross-border tourism product.

The article presents segmentation of tourist products buyers in the Luboń Wielki area. The results are shown in the context of attempts to create market for tourist services in Beskid Wyspowy. Tourist profile was created based on the monitoring of tourism traffic and surveys, including the perception of the image of this part of the mountains. Elements registered as essential in the planning and development of tourist services are: the existence of two peaks in the daily presence of tourists, predominance of individual hikers, specialisation for cycling routs and the close relationship between the intensity of tourist traffic and meteorological conditions. There are significant differences in terms of planned and actual traffic on tourist routs, without relation to the location near the potential tourist attractions. Tourists more often consider as such PTTK shelters and approach of the Rabka spa, than for example, the values of Inanimate Nature Reserve of Luboń Wielki.

The Polish coast is located at a considerable distance from the main areas of leisure tourism in Europe. In recent years this area has seen a significant growth in tourist accommodation and tourist traffic. The aim of this study was to analyse the quantitative and spatial differentiation of tourist traffic in the Polish coast. The analysis is based on statistical data from the Local Data Bank (BDL) maintained by Statistics Poland (GUS) about all seaside municipalities for which there is data on tourist arrivals. The author focuses on the most commonly used indicators of tourism activity: Baretje-Defert’s index of the tourism development, Schneider’s index of tourism intensity, Charvat’s index of intensity of tourist traffic and Defert’s index of tourist traffic density (based on data for 2014, except the number of tourist beds for 2019 year). The author found significant differences in the volume of tourist traffic across Polish coastal municipalities and between the Polish coast as a whole and other coastal areas in other European countries.

The purpose of the paper is to identify changes in the structure of the tourism function in Kujawy spas which have led to their transformation into tourism and health resorts. The study was based on tourist traffic statistics referring to the period 2000-2017 and included defining the relationship between curative and other forms of tourist traffic. The author has used a wide range of statistical data, as well as information provided by surveys to determine and analyze the statistical indicators of tourist traffic pace, intensity and structure. The analysis reveals a significant transformation of the spas in Kujawy. This is confirmed by the indicators of curative and non-curative tourist traffic and by the reasons for visiting health resorts. The pace of changes in the tourism function in individual spas is varied. It is fastest in Ciechocinek, accelerating in Wieniec-Zdrój and slowest in Inowrocław. The changes occurring in the spas are causing their gradual transformation into tourism and health resorts.

The main aim of the article is to present the importance of tourism in Polish regions within the Central European Transport Corridor CETC ROUTE 65. Four of Polish voivodeships (West Pomeranian, Lubusz, Lower Silesia and Opole) are signatories of CETC ROUTE 65. The tourist accommodation and its occupancy are examined, as well as tourist traffic in these four provinces. The analysis of tourism in the West Pomeranian region is the result of research, done under the development project titled ‘Research on and modelling of mode-integrated transport system in the West Pomeranian region with a focus on the Central European Transport Corridor North – South CETC ROUTE 65’, financed by the National Research and Development Centre in the years 2009–2011 and research project “Port logistic centres as stimulants of the development of ports, port towns and seaside regions. Research, modeling, concept of location, operations and management”, financed by the National Science Centre in the years 2011–2012. The research was co-ordinated by Czesława Christowa at the Maritime University of Szczecin.

Artykuł dotyczy aktualnego problemu, który można określić, jako poszukiwanie ekonomiczno-społecznych determinant umożliwiających zwiększenie ruchu turystycznego i jego efektywności na badanym obszarze. Problematyka dotyczy Zamościa, w którym zagadnienia dotyczące efektywnego zarządzania turystyką należą do priorytetowych. Celem opracowania jest zweryfikowanie i przybliżenie odbiorcy najcenniejszych walorów turystycznych tego regionu, jak i wskazanie najważniejszych uwarunkowań i źródeł determinujących lokalny rozwój turystyki oraz ekonomiczne i społeczne efekty związane z tym procesem. Ocenę oparto na aktualnych badaniach empirycznych, co zwiększa stopień przydatności opracowania do rozwiązania istotnych problemów z zakresu turystyki w mieście umieszczonym na Liście Dziedzictwa Światowego UNESCO.
The article deals with the current problem, which can be defined as the search for economic and social determinants that allow increasing tourist traffic and its effective in the studied area. Issues related to Zamość, in which the issues of effective tourism management are among the priority ones. The aim of the study is to verify and familiarize the recipient with the most valuable tourist values of this region, as well as to indicate the most important conditions and sources determining local tourism development as well as economic and social effects associated with this process. The assessment was based on current empirical research, which increases the usefulness of the study to solve significant problems in the field of tourism in the city placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

As the number of people visiting national parks in Poland is constantly growing, it is important to recognise their varying motivations and preferences. This is particularly important in the most popular national parks, such as the National Park in the Karkonosze Mountains (KNP). KNP is visited by two millions tourists annually, which makes it the second most popular national park in Poland. The aim of study was to classify visitors of the national park in terms of their motivation to visit. Three main categories of visitors were identified: leisure seekers, nature lovers and active tourists. The category of leisure seekers was the largest and most diverse with respect to their preferences. Nature lovers knew a lot about the park, especially as regards its geodiversity and its fauna and flora. The number of active visitors keeps growing every year. Active tourism, especially in the KPN, requires advanced equipment and good physical fitness. The findings of the study tourism trends in mountain national parks and can provide insights for its management. The article ends with some predictions regarding future trends and changes in the classification of KPN visitors after the pandemic.

Celem niniejszego opracowania jest ocena ilościowa oraz jakościowa ruchu turystycznego w Parku Krajobrazowym Puszczy Knyszyńskiej.
Researches on tourist traffic in landscape parks is very important, due to the level conservation level of the areas, and because of the educational and recreational functions accessible to the society, especially to the young people. The elaboration presents a qualitative and quantitative study of touristic traffic in Knyszyn Forest Landscape Park, between 1989-2010. The analysis of the data shows that this protected area was visited by 72 989 tourists over 22 years. Generally the number of visitors there is rising, and the largest group of the visitors are children. It has been noted, that there is a big quantitative variation between respective sociological segments of tourists. It follows a need to deepen research, standardize methodology of the research on tourist traffic in landscape parks.

Pandemia COVID-19 w sposób szczególny wpłynęła na usługi turystyczne. Celem artykułu jest omówienie zmian w wybranych elementach struktury ruchu turystycznego (turystów i odwiedzających jednodniowych) w czasie pandemii COVID-19 w województwie podkarpackim w 2020 i 2021 r. W tekście porównano wyniki dwóch pomiarów ruchu turystycznego, przeprowadzonych według tej samej metodologii. Pierwsza edycja badania była realizowana w czasie chwilowego poluzowania obostrzeń pandemicznych dla sektora usług. W 2021 r. rządowa polityka przeciwdziałania pandemii miała już inny charakter, co przełożyło się na swobodniejszy ruch turystyczny. Lockdown i związane z nim ograniczenia w turystyce zagranicznej przełożyły się na zintensyfikowanie turystyki krajowej w 2020 r. Była ona podejmowana w warunkach dużej niepewności i w sposób nastawiony na zachowanie bezpieczeństwa zdrowotnego. Poluzowanie obostrzeń i złagodzenie polityki pandemicznej w 2021 r. oznaczały stopniowy powrót do przedpandemicznych wzorców konsumpcji turystycznej. Znalazło to odzwierciedlenie w strukturze ruchu turystycznego. Prezentowanie wyniki badań mogą być przydatne dla instytucji odpowiedzialnych za prowadzenie polityki turystycznej w regionie, dla przedsiębiorców z branży turystycznej, a także dla naukowców zainteresowanych zmianami zachodzącymi w turystyce w czasie pandemii COVID-19.
COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the lives of many Polish citizens. The changes have been visible particularly in tourist services. The aim of the paper is to present how specific elements of the structure of tourist traffic (both tourists and one‑day visitors) changed due to COVID-19 pandemic in Podkarpackie Voivodeship in 2020 and 2021. The argumentation is based on comparison of the results of two research measurements conducted in 2020 and 2021 within the same methodology. The first edition took place in situation of temporary loosening of the restriction, while in 2021 the government’s pandemic policy had a completely different character (tourism was possible without any major restrictions). Lockdown and related restrictions resulted in more intensive domestic tourism in 2020, which was implemented in situation of uncertainty and with focus on health security. Loosening the restrictions and milder pandemic policy in 2021 had consequences in return to pre‑pandemic patterns of tourism. The results may be useful for institutions responsible for tourism policy in the region and for entrepreneurs from the tourism industry, as well as for scientists interested in changes taking place in tourism during COVID-19 pandemic.

Celem niniejszej publikacji jest zaprezentowanie  roli ruchu turystycznego jako czynnika determinującego rozwój obszarów transgranicznych. W artykule podano przyczyny, podstawy i uwarunkowania rozwoju turystyki transgranicznej. Opisano genezę, przyczyny powstania i podstawy formalne funkcjonowania euroregionów, a także scharakteryzowano znaczenie turystyki w aktywizacji gospodarczej obszarów nadgranicznych. Artykuł zawiera również dane statystyczne i ich analizę w odniesieniu do zmian, które zaszły w ostatnich latach. Jako przykład dla rozważań wykorzystano Euroregion Niemen. Publikacja stanowi też próbę prognozy przyszłej sytuacji w dziedzinie turystyki transgranicznej i roli tego euroregionu w przyszłości. Literatura dotycząca omawianej tematyki jest dość bogata. Artykuł powstał przy wykorzystaniu materiałów książkowych i prasowych, a także ogólnodostępnych danych statystycznych i informacji netograficznych. Metodą badawczą zastosowaną w artykule stała się krytyka piśmiennicza literatury obejmującej poruszaną tematykę. Podejście badawcze uwzględnia dane ilościowe i jakościowe dotyczące turystyki w obszarach transgranicznych. Narzędzie badawcze stanowiła analiza danych statystycznych. Wyniki badań wyraźnie wskazują na znaczącą rolę turystyki w aktywizacji gospodarczej wszystkich krajów obszaru transgranicznego. Wnioski, które można wysnuć na ich podstawie, wyraźnie wskazują na celowość istnienia i funkcjonowania euroregionów na obszarze Europy, a w szczególności omawianego Euroregionu Niemen. Sam euroregion stanowi czynnik pobudzający i rozwijający aktywność turystyczną.
The purpose of this publication is to present the role of tourism as a factor in determining the development of cross-border areas. The article provides the reasons and basis for cross-border tourism development. It also describes the origins, causes and legal regulations regarding the functioning of euroregions, as well as characterises the importance of tourism in economic activation of border areas. The paper also contains statistical data and their analysis in the context of the changes that have taken place in recent years. Euroregion Neman serves as the source for considerations. The article also attempts at forecasting the future situation in cross-border tourism and the role of this Euroregion in the future. Literature on this subject is quite rich. The article was written with the use of books and press releases, as well as statistical data and Internet sources. Research method used in the article is a review of literature covering analysed topics. The research takes into account quantitative and qualitative data on tourism in the cross-border areas. Analysis of statistical data constitutes the research tool of the article. Results of the research clearly indicate the important role of tourism in the economic activation of all countries of the cross-border area. Conclusions that can be drawn on their basis clearly indicate the desirability of the existence and functioning of Euroregions in Europe, and in particular of the Euroregion Neman. The euroregion itself is a factor stimulating and developing tourism activity.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is identification of the relationship between the amount of expenditure for tourism born by mountain communes (gminas) in Poland and intensity of tourist traffic in their areas. The analysis of tourist traffic in mountain communes in Poland in the first place allowed to establish that an average intensity of tourist traffic is greater than generally in Poland. The observation does not refer to the whole of the analyzed area, since tourist traffic reveals a very high concentration, reaching extreme cases in the communes where not a single tourist used bed-places. Registered increase in tourist traffic intensity did not apply to the whole area of mountain communes in Poland. Mountain communes only to some extent get involved in realization of expenditure on tourism - less than half of communes participated in them in 2009 and only few communes spent considerable amounts of money. Average expenditure from commune budgets on tourism, both total and per one tourist using bed places in mountain communes, were higher than the average for all communes in Poland.None of the applied methods of identification of correlative dependence allowed to establish its occurrence on a significant level, therefore the number of tourists in mountain communes in Poland does not directly depend on the amount of expenditure on tourism realized by these communes.
