As the Church follows the call of John Paul II for a New Evangelization, she must consider how the individual person actually comes to belief. Bl. John Henry Newman, soon to be canonized, addressed this question in An Essay in Aid of A Grammar of Assent. According to Newman, religious belief is not just a logical acceptance of intellectual propositions. It is a commitment of the whole person to God, according to the image of God formed in the person’s imagination. (The imagination is that faculty possessed by every human person, which coordinates real life experiences and allows the person to comprehend the real world around him).It is by intentionally employing the imagination, rather than demonstrative logic, that the human person arrives at a belief that is well-grounded, neither cold nor fanatical. Accordingly, our evangelical activity, while never neglecting the truth of the Gospel, should seek to engage the senses and feelings of the human person and not merely the intellect.

The article includes an attempt to describe the relationship between inculturation and the new evangelization, focusing on inculturation as a method of the new evangelization. In the literature of the subject there are many studies on inculturation in indigenous cultures of Africa or Latin America. However, there is little scientific literature on contemporary culture, which is also the subject of missionary activities of the Church. Therefore there is a need to systematize and investigate this topic. As a result of the analysis, the article shows that it is possible to use analogies in the application of inculturation, and it is possible to speak of inculturation in the new evangelization. An outline of the areas of contemporary culture is also presented which particularly require evangelization and inculturation.

Postmodernism is, in many respects, a term that has lost most of its cultural and academic cachet. This does not, however, mean that the themes, context, and conditions to which it referred are no longer relevant. In this essay, I will briefly review the latest reports which show a decreasing interest in organized religion, and interpret these results as symptomatic of a larger change in the state of knowledge. To this end, I will examine Jean‑François Lyotard’s analysis of the loss of metanarratives as a way of understanding the implicit rules of the dialogue that occurs between the theist and the atheist or agnostic. Next, I will note the unique capacity of beauty to transcend the diverse language games played by both sides of the conversation. I will conclude by contending that this characteristic of beauty offers a kind of common ground which can be built upon, fostering further dialogue as well as an opportunity for evangelization.

The article is focused on school retreats as a place of the new evangelization. The considerations are mainly based on opinion polls which were conducted among young people after Lent retreats held at the seminary in Lomza (in 2009) and at the veterinary and general education secondary school in Lomza (in 2012). The author’s attention was paid to three aspects of the new evangeliza-tion, namely zeal, method, and expression. The analyses suggest that (1) young people are careful observers and can distinguish reliable religious testimony from mere preaching supported by social engineering and persuasion training, (2) towards audiovisual means one should keep moderate attitude and resist a temptation of making them an end in itself, (3) young people love to sing, listen to the good music, watch the pantomime, and be exposed to positive ex-amples of life, which makes an opportunity to face them with the new evangeli-zation. In the conclusion the author claims that school retreats are liked by young people and in a certain way they do evangelize them.

Due to globalisation social processes, once lasting for decades, proceed rapidly changing the way of thinking in individuals and whole societies, and leading to secularisation. Together with the lifestyle, the way of experiencing faith goes under modification and more and more people lose their spiritual identity living as if God did not exist. Cultural transformation of the world, especially Europe, is becoming a particular challenge for the Church to be itself in the new reality and learn how to carry out its pastoral activity in a proper way. This task is difficult but indispensable. Nowadays the Church is appointed to establish new ways of preaching the Good News to people of the 21st century and learn to understand contemporary people who frequently think according to postmodernistic spirit. This bears the need of new evangelization and renewed catechesis, which will both hold the authority of the Word of God and be close to lives of the catechized. Hence the ministry of word has to be dialogue-oriented, and directed to correlation of experience of life and faith. Only then will it be alive, interesting and capable of guiding a contemporary human to meeting with the Lord.

Nowa Ewangelizacja powinna znaleźć zasadnicze miejsce w posłudze Kościoła naszego czasu. Dlatego Kościół musi raz jeszcze podjąć wysiłek zrozumienia tego, czym jest Nowa Ewangelizacja. Jak zauważa papież-emeryt Benedykt XVI – pojęcie to funkcjonuje na sposób hasła, terminu technicznego. W konsekwencji stało się wręcz pojęciem bez znaczenia, o niedookreślonej treści, a przynajmniej powierzchownym i pozbawionym większego znaczenia i sensu. Stąd jako szczególne zadanie postrzega Benedykt XVI konieczność dookreślenia jego treści i formułuje w tym zakresie swoje propozycje, zdecydowanie przeciwstawiając się uproszczeniem i zafałszowaniom terminu nowej ewangelizacji. Oznacza to jednak tak naprawdę przypomnienie, czym miała być nowa ewangelizacja – która została już zdefiniowana w czasie kontynentalnych Zgromadzeń Synodalnych, będących przygotowaniem Kościoła do jubileuszowego roku 2000. Oznacza ona odrodzenie życia wiary Kościołów lokalnych; inicjację procesów dostrzegania i rozumienia przemian, podjęcie nowych zobowiązań z myślą o radosnym i udzielającym się innym głoszeniu Ewangelii Jezusa Chrystusa

The author of the article shows that challenging the new God's People to participate in the work of evangelization that is called “new” is still topical, because of the intensification of old threats and appearance of new ones, to which the evangelization was supposed to be a response. It is also current in the light of John Paul II's teaching preached after the year 2000 and Benedict XVI's teaching, especially the teaching contained in his first two encyclicals. Paragraph I of the article talks about the origin, need and significant assumptions of the new evangelization. In the next one the topicality is demonstrated of the challenge directed to the faithful to put it into effect, and in the last one tasks are listed that those who work on the new evangelization face after the Church entered the third millennium. The author pays close attention to the fact that the necessity to intensify one's spiritual life is their essential task, as it is a special condition of efficiency of the work of the new evangelization.

This paper studies the cooperation of theology in the new evangelization in societies of ancient Christian tradition which are suffering an advanced process of secularization. It begins with Spain, where a recent debate on the influence of Christian intellectuals on social life suggests the ineffectiveness of ecclesiastical resources in transmitting the rich Catholic doctrinal heritage. Then the author deals with the idiosyncrasy of contemporary man, which lies near the one of the immediate future’s man: an uprooted subject who does not believe that life has any meaning, is deeply marked by emotivism and attaches little significance to truth. The theology of tomorrow cannot feed this emotivism but must be proactive in its own way. The proclamation of the Gospel is not different from the exposition of the Church’s doctrine. To detach evangelization from the teaching of Christian doctrine cannot help the encounter with Christ. In order to succeed in transmitting this doctrine by making it suggestive, theologians should work together with experts in communication.

It is necessary to stress that for the Church, on the one hand understood as an institution and on the other hand as a human community, faith is a primary factor of its identity and its existence in history. It is faith that allows to see the theological dimension of ecclesial life, that indicates the Divine genesis of the Church and its redeeming mission. In a most general sense faith is perceived in this context as a response of a man and the whole community to God’s call, focused on the event of Jesus Christ. The revelation and salvation done in Him is for the Church the only credible criterion of the mission of evangelisation. Unfortunately, faith is a dynamic reality which can develop, yet it can also give in to degradation. The "Year of Faith" experienced in the Church in 1967 and 2013, analogically to Jubilee Years, was to dynamise the religious life of believers and answer the questions which trouble the membersof the Church. The solemn credo and the postulate of new evangelisation will remain the most important symbols of this time.

Od czasu Soboru Watykańskiego II świadomość ewangelizacyjnych wyzwań przed jakimi stoi Kościół jest coraz mocniejsza. Dzięki św. Janowi Pawłowi II określenie to zaś na stałe zagościło w świadomości Kościoła powszechnego. Pontyfikat papieża Franciszka sprzyja, aby Ameryka Łacińska nadal kontynuowała inspirującą rolę wobec całego Kościoła w obszarze „nowej ewangelizacji”. W przekonaniu autorów artykułu godnym zainteresowania jest zainicjowany w Meksyku i z powodzeniem implementowany w wielu regionach świata, gdzie stał się oficjalnym programem duszpasterskim dla licznych diecezji i parafii - Integralny System Nowej Ewangelizacji (SINE – Sistema Integral de la Nueva Evangelización). Dostrzegając realia Kościoła w Polsce i ewangeliczy niepokój wielu duszpasterzy, System ten jest ciekawą propozycją, która – twórczo rozwinięta – może przekształcić tradycyjnie prowadzoną parafię w tętniącą życiem wspólnotę wspólnot.
Since the Second Vatican Council, the awareness of the challenges to evangelization that the Church is facing has been growing stronger. Beginning with the Third Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM) in Puebla in 1979, the call to seek new forms and methods for evangelization in a rapidly changing reality started to be called "new evangelization". Thanks to St. John Paul II, this term has permanently stayed in the consciousness of the universal Church. The pontificate of Pope Francis supports Latin America in continuing its inspirational role in "new evangelization". According to the authors, an interesting pastoral initiative of new evangelization is the Integral System of New Evangelization (SINE - Sistema Integral de la Nueva Evangelización), initiated in Mexico and successfully implemented in many regions of the world, where it has become an official pastoral program for numerous dioceses and parishes. Recognizing the situation of the Church in Poland and the evangelical anxiety of many priests, this system is an interesting solution which – if creatively developed - can transform a traditionally run parish into a vibrant community of communities.

This article intends to coordinate sacramental liturgy with the liturgy of life by interrelating a number of themes. Evident in the combination of topics in the theology is the typical Catholic approach of “both/and”: church and world, liturgy and the secular, mystagogy and evangelization, sacred and the profane, liturgical participation and mission, liturgical renewal and renewing the face of the earth. This article shows the new evangelization through the lens of liturgy. How does the new evangelization relate to history and eternity, cosmos and parousia, spiritual renewal and embodied action?

Ewangelizacja była znana na przestrzeni wieków. Pierwsze posyłanie uczniów ma  znamiona głoszenia dobrej nowiny. Liczne dokumenty Kościoła usiłowały zdefiniować dzieło ewangelizacji i  nadać mu  nowe znaczenie. Pierwszym dokumentem jest dekret o  działalności misyjnej Kościoła ad  gentes Soboru Watykańskiego II, w którym czytamy, że Chrystus został posłany, „aby ukazywać miłość Bożą i zaszczepiać ją wszystkim ludziom i narodom”81. Misja ad gentes ma na uwadze tych, którzy nie słyszeli o Chrystusie. Posoborowe nauczanie Kościoła coraz częściej wskazuje, że każdy ochrzczony jest wezwany do głoszenia dobrej nowiny. Nowa ewangelizacja to głoszenie orędzia zbawienia na nowe sposoby, to wychodzenie ku  współczesnym z  nowymi formami i  środkami. Jednak najskuteczniejsze jest osobiste świadectwo. Niniejszy artykuł ukazuje zarys, pojęcia i próbę zdefiniowania nowej ewangelizacji na tle dostępnych opracowań, zwrócenie uwagi na dokumenty Kościoła, w których temat nowej ewangelizacji poruszany jest w  sposób wieloaspektowy. Następnie wzięci są pod uwagę adresaci Dobrej Nowiny.
Evangelization was known over centuries and well know in  the history. First sending off the apostles, has characteristics of the proclamation of the Good News. Several Church’s documents tried to  define the process of  evangelization and to give it a new meaning. The first document is the Decree ad gentes on the mission activity of the Church of the Second Vatican Council, in which we read, that Christ was sent “to reveal and to communicate the love of God to all men and nations”82. The mission ad gentes is concerned about those who never heard about Christ. Postsynodal Magisterium of the Church more often indicates that every baptised person is called to proclaim the Good News. The new evangelization means proclamation of the salvation in new way, it means to go out to modern man with modern forms and means of communication. Yet the most effective is one’s personal experience. This article shows an outline, concepts and attempts to define new evangelization in the light of  the available materials, with particular attention to  the Church’s documents which treat new evangelization in different perspectives. Then taken into account are the recipients of the Good News.

Święty Jan Paweł II w swojej ostatniej encyklice Ecclesia de Eucharistia wyraźnie stwierdził, że Eucharystia jest źródłem i szczytem całej ewangelizacji. Jednym z mostów, który łączy obie te rzeczywistości – liturgię i (nową) ewangelizację – jest mistagogia, nazywana również formacją czy katechezą liturgiczną. Niniejszy artykuł stawia sobie za cel pokazanie, jak funkcjonowała mistagogia starożytnego Kościoła i w jaki sposób można z tej metody korzystać dzisiaj w dziele nowej ewangelizacji. Chodzi również o pokazanie, że mistagogia nie jest tylko sposobem objaśniania obrzędów liturgicznych, ale uzdalnia wiernych do przeżywania tego, co się celebruje. W tym sensie służy ona również do przekazu i budowania wiary, dlatego też każde głoszenie kerygmatu winno być mistagogiczne i każda katecheza mistagogiczna winna być kerygmatyczna.
In his last encyclical: Ecclesia de Eucharistia, St. John Paul II clearly declared that the Eucharist is the source and summit of evangelization. One of the bridges that link both of those realities: liturgy and new evangelization, is mystagogy, which is also called liturgical formation or catechesis. This article aims at presenting how the mystagogy of the ancient Church functioned, and how we can use this method today in new evangelization. Also, we wish to show that mystagogy is not just a way of explaining liturgical rituals, but it also enables the faithful to experience what is being celebrated. In this sense, mystagogy also aims at transmitting and building faith, which is why each proclamation of the kerygma should be mystagogical and each mystagogical catechesis should be kerygmatic.

Artykuł przedstawia podstawy tezy przemawiającej za podejściem do pastoralnych zadań nowej ewangelizacji opartej na liturgii. W pierwszej części ukazano, że niezaprzeczalny telos nowej ewangelizacji w nauczaniu Jan Pawła II, Benedykta XVI i obecnie papieża Franciszka wymaga formacji liturgicznej i sakramentalnej osobowości trudnej do osiągnięcia przez ponowoczesne społeczeństwo. Następnie przestawiono trzy wymiary odnowy kulturowej konieczne do rozwoju liturgiczno-pastoralnego zadania nowej ewangelizacji. Te wymiary uwzględniają krytykę technokratycznego paradygmatu, podsycanie pamięci w sekularnej epoce i odzyskanie estetyki jako autentycznej formy wiedzy.
The liturgical task of all pastoral activity has not yet been fully accounted for in the recent turn toward the New Evangelization discernable in the magisterium. This article offers the fundamentals of an argument for a liturgically-centered approach to the pastoral task of the New Evangelization. In the first part of the essay, author argues that the implicit telos of the New Evangelization in John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and now Pope Francis necessitates the formation of a liturgical and sacramental personhood made difficult by late modern society. In the second, author provides three dimensions of cultural renewal necessary for developing the liturgical-pastoral task of the New Evangelization. These dimensions include a critique of the technocratic paradigm, a fostering of memory in a secular age, and the reclamation of aesthetics as an authentic form of knowing.

Opis:
The reflection about ministry and new evangelization requires first of all the definition of the word „evangelization” and posing a question about its circumstances as well as defining the relationship between new evangelization and ministry in the perspective of the Polish social and religious reality. Due to the complex structure of ministry activity of the Polish Church such precise definitions seem to be necessary. Two basic direction of the Church’s mission – ministry and evangelization – are not contradictory. Although they are accomplished differently and are addressed to various recipients they are directed to the same goal of evangelization. The effectiveness condition of a new evangelization is a well organized ministry in parishes. The first and second part of this article is based, according to pastoral theology methodology, on the analysis of selected Church documents and sociological and ministry observations. The third part is the attempt to present the role of communication for the purposes of ministry and new evangelization in light of sociological theory.
