Opis:
We report the observations of electron paramagnetic resonance and impedance measurements of graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide performed in the wide temperature range in order to get insight into the electronic properties of graphene-based materials and the role of oxygen functionalities in the charge carrier transport phenomena. In such systems the strong spin localization, hopping charge carrier transport as well as the formation of adsorption layers are observed, all the phenomena changing significantly after the heavily oxidized graphene is reduced.

Opis:
We study the spin polarized electron and hole tunneling transport through a graphene-based ferromagnet$(GF_1)$-insulator$(GI_1)$-superconductor$(G_{S})$-insulator$(GI_2)$-ferromagnet$(GF_2)$ junction. Proximity induced spin polarization and superconductivity in a graphene sheet are assumed to be created by superconducting and ferromagnetic electrodes placed on the top of the graphene. Using a four-dimensional version of the Dirac-Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation with appropriate boundary conditions we investigate the tunneling processes through the junctions. In particular, we present calculations of the amplitudes of normal and Andreev reflections as a function of the energy of the incident electron for a wide range of the model parameters, such as the strength and orientation of the exchange field, the barrier strength, and the distance between the two ferromagnetic layers. The tunneling transport processes in the graphene-based double junction GF/GI/$G_{S}$/GI/GF are compared with those in non-graphene-based junctions.

Opis:
It is common to describe graphene as ideally flat plane, however there exists both theoretical and experimental evidence that it is most usual to find it in a rippled state. The ripples can be either induced by the substrate or formed spontaneously in suspended graphene. The lateral size of such features ranges between several and tens of nanometers with the height of up to 1 nm. It has been suggested that the presence of ripples could be one of the factors ultimately limiting mobility of carriers and that it may be also responsible, by introducing an effective gauge field, for the lack of weak localization observed in certain graphene samples. In the present contribution the transport properties of the rippled graphene are studied theoretically starting with the simple case of one-dimensional modulation. Using either single-band or the full $sp^3$ tight-binding Hamiltonians we compare and discuss the importance of two ripple-related mechanisms of scattering: the variation of interatomic distances and hybridization between π and σ bands of graphene.

We discuss transport properties of graphene related to the resonant scattering from impurities and defects. Two different models describing defects in the bulk of graphene or at the graphene surface are used for the calculation of self energy of electrons scattered from short-range impurities or defects. The results of numerical calculations demonstrate a resonant character of resistance. In the case of neutral impurities or defects the scattering also leads to a resonant decrease of the spin relaxation time.

The main problem of interest of this study is the influence of external electrodes on the edge magnetic moments in graphene nanoribbons. The studies are carried out within the framework of tight-binding method (for π -state electrons) and the Landauer-Büttiker formalism combined with the Green function technique. It is shown that the edge atom moments get reduced (and eventually disappear) when the graphene nanoribbon/electrode interface becomes more and more transparent for electrons.

We study the Josephson effect in graphene based junctions where superconductivity in graphene is induced by the proximity effect from external substrate materials. The electronic properties of the junction is described by the Dirac-Bogoliubov-de-Gennes equations. We consider the junction consisting of two superconductors with different pairing potentials. Using appropriate boundary conditions imposed on the normal region-superconductors interfaces, we calculated the Andreev bound state energy, in the ballistic limit, taking into account two types of reflections namely the retro and specular Andreev reflections.

The quantum tunnelling of spin-polarized electrons through a Rashba barrier on a single layer graphene is studied by the scattering matrix method. It is shown that the magnetoresistance, defined as the difference between conductance at the presence and absence of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction, oscillates with the intensity of interaction. These oscillations are also observed in the conductance versus the potential energy of the barrier.

This study is devoted to the problem of electronic transport in graphene nanodevices in 4-terminal systems with various arrangements of electrodes. The electrodes are attached to square and rectangular graphene nanoflakes with armchair (a) and zigzag (z) edges. Apart from the known case of the zzzz-configuration, with all the electrodes coupled to the zigzag fragments of the edges, also the aaaa- and zaza-type cases are considered here. The adopted theoretical approach is based on a tight-binding method combined with the wideband approximation for electrodes, and an effective iterative knitting-type Green's function algorithm.

We report on attempts to produce a graphene based liquid flow sensor. Our results indicate that modifications of the electric double layer, formed in the vicinity of the graphene surface, dominate over mechanisms responsible for liquid flow-induced voltage/current generation. Several graphene structures were tested in different measurement configurations, aimed to maximize the generated signal amplitude and its stability. Some realizations of working devices in water as well as in aqueous solutions of NaCl or HCl are presented.

We study the dynamics of graphene ring in the presence of time-dependent electric field, where the Dirac particles in graphene ring interact with external electromagnetic fields. Using the Dirac Hamiltonian in electromagnetic field, we obtain the pseudomagnetic moment of the Dirac particles around a graphene ring. It is shown that the appeared pseudomagnetic moment term essentially can be in control by time-dependent electric field, and also it depends on the energy gap of graphene. It seems that one can construct a logic system in graphene and also in semiconductors by the pseudomagnetic moment term.

Ballistic transport through an impurity-free section of the Corbino disk in graphene is investigated by means of the Landauer-Büttiker formalism in the mesoscopic limit. In the linear-response regime the conductance is quantized in steps close to integer multiples of 4e²/h, yet Fabry-Perot oscillations are strongly suppressed. The quantization arises for small opening angles θ ≲ π/3 and large radii ratios $R_2$/$R_1$ ≳ 10. We find that the condition for emergence of the n-th conductance step can be written as √nθ/π ≪ 1. A brief comparison with the conductance spectra of graphene nanoribbons with parallel edges is also provided.

In this paper using scanning electron microscope, contactless microwave electronic transport and the Raman spectroscopy we studied the properties of graphene deposited on GaN nanowires and compared it with the graphene deposited on GaN epilayer. The Raman micro-mapping showed that nanowires locally change the strain and the concentration of carriers in graphene. Additionally we observed that nanowires increase the intensity of the Raman spectra by more than one order of magnitude.

Due to its peculiar properties graphene is a good candidate for sensor materials. Therefore, it is important to study influence of different fluids on graphene layer. The presented studies showed pinning of NaCl microcrystals to graphene surface after immersing graphene in NaCl solution and subsequent careful rinsing with distilled water. The atomic force microscopy images revealed presence of many NaCl-related structures over 100 nm high on graphene surface. The electron spin resonance spectrum for magnetic field perpendicular to the graphene layer consisted of several lines originating from NaCl. The pinning of NaCl microcrystals resulted in increase of electron scattering, as confirmed by the Raman spectroscopy (the increase of intensity of D and D' bands) and weak localization measurement (the decrease of coherence length).
