Opis:
Analytical methods for calculations of the transport machinery are often insufficient especially when untypical granular materials are considered. Discrete Element Method (DEM) is a very useful numerical tool supporting designing and optimization of the transport equipment. However, to obtain reliable DEM simulation results an accurate set of input parameters values is needed. The most common calibration approach is to make use of a procedure where laboratory tests are performed and then the same experiments are numerically replicated in DEM. The article presents calibration of the DEM input parameters on the example of perlite D18-DN Based on the performed calibration, the model of perlite transport in a screw conveyor has been shown.
Analityczne metody obliczeniowe parametrów konstrukcyjnych maszyn i urządzeń transportowych są często niewystarczające, zawłaszcza w przypadku transportu nietypowych materiałów sypkich. Pomocnym narzędziem numerycznym wspierającym proces projektowania i optymalizacji urządzeń do transportu materiałów sypkich jest Metoda Elementów Dyskretnych (DEM). Uzyskanie wiarygodnych wyników symulacji wymaga kalibracji parametrów wejściowych modelowanego materiału wykorzystując wyniki badań laboratoryjnych właściwości fizykochemicznych rzeczywistych materiałów. W artykule przedstawiono metodologię kalibracji modelu DEM na przykładzie perlitu D18-DN. W oparciu o przeprowadzoną kalibrację zaprezentowano możliwości zastosowania metody DEM do symulowania transportu materiału przenośnikiem ślimakowym.

In the present paper some information on the potencial of the epidemiology hazard produced by community of hornet Vespa crabro is given. In nests of hornet recorded in Łódź, 24 species of pathogenic and conditional pathogenic bacteria were found. 75% of nests investigated in Łódź were found in apartament buildings.

Coopetition builds on the idea that firms - competitors cooperate to create values and to appropriate value. Despite extant research on this topic, our understanding about how firms are engaged in cooperative relationships with their rivals is still in its early stages. This paper explores the higher education sector in Poland from the perspective of cooperative and competitive relationships, and analyses its performance on three different levels, i.e. macro, meso, and micro using case-based insights to answer the question(s). We propose that cooperative relationships amongst a variety of different universities increase their competitiveness and enhance the diffusion of knowledge. In the long run this translates into benefits for all parties and into a rise in the efficiency of the entire education sector. (original abstract)

The search for the main determinant of business strategy of an organization does not have a clear solution. Intuitively, it seems that it should be a customer, but in practice of management, the primary criterion according to which the company management is assessed is the economic profit. The main purpose of this article is to identify the client’s place and the role in the management strategies of business organizations. The authors analyse this place and role, using historical perspective, particularly concentrating on resource based view, innovative strategy and networks strategy. The whole analysis is finished with the concept of organization ecosystem, in which a client is a central point.

The Eastern Partnership is the latest and so far the most ambitious initiative directed by the European Union to its Eastern neighbors. By approximation between the political and socio-economic systems, it aims to strengthening cooperation and thereby consolidating peaceful relations in the region. It is the idea of Poland to entangle the European Union to take more responsibility for the stability of its eastern borders. The author presents in this article the genesis and the assumptions of this program. He argues that, because of the large variation of countries participating in this project and the differences of interests within the Union, the future of this project is so far difficult to predict. In his opinion, an important reflection of the scale of support for this initiative will certainly increase in financial funding, without which this program will remain only a dead idea. Finally, the future of this program will determine by the interests of the recipients and internal compatibility of position within the European Union.

The work addresses the issue of the geostrategic situation of Latvia in relation to Russia’s foreign policy, which is important for security in the Baltic Sea region. The work uses literary, historical and systemic methods of analysis. The aim of the work is to present the geostrategic position of Latvia. A historical analysis was undertaken indicating the causes of the current geostrategic situation of the country. The conditions and goals of the Russian foreign policy in the Baltic Sea basin and the strategic goals of actors involved in the region of NATO, the EU, the Russian Federation and Latvia were indicated. The main problems of the geostrategic location include cyber-attacks, disinformation campaigns conducted by the Russian media and a real threat to the integrity of the state posed by the Russian inhabitants of the country. It was decided that the Russian population could be used as a tool of pressure on the country’s authorities, especially since the Russian minority, constituting approximately 26% of Latvia’s population, can create its own parties and demand its rights, including demands for autonomy. The forecast of changes assumes that this problem will increase as Latvia struggles with demographic complications. It can be concluded that the smaller the numerical ratio of Latvians to Russians, the more difficult it will be for them to maintain their own statehood in a potential conflict situation with Russia. This is currently the most serious issue in Latvia’s security policy.

Artykuł dotyczy globalnych stosunków sił w latach 1992-2016. Został oparty na raportach potęgo metrycznych publikowanych od kilku lat w Polsce. Na wstępie autor wyjaśnia pojęcie i istotę międzynarodowego układu sił, odróżniając go od systemu międzynarodowego i polityczno-terytorialnego status quo. Następnie przedstawiana jest potęgo metryczna analiza międzynarodowego układu sił po „zimnej wojnie”. Analizowane są stosunki sił pomiędzy państwami w zakresie potęgi ogólnej, wojskowej i geopolitycznej. Na przykładzie różnych wskaźników pomiarowych przedstawiane są stosunki sił we współczesnym świecie. Na ich podstawie sygnalizowane są zasadnicze tendencje w stosunkach międzynarodowych. Autor podkreśla przydatność metod empirycznych w badaniach międzynarodowego układu sił. Wskazuje na ich znaczenie w polityce i strategii bezpieczeństwa narodowego.
The article concerns global relations of forces in the years 1992-2016. It was based on the power metrics reports published for several years in Poland. At the outset, the author explains the concept and essence of the international alignment of forces, distinguishing it from the international system and political status quo. Then, there is presented an empirical analysis of the international alignment of forces after the „cold war”. There are analyzed the relations of forces between states in the field of general, military and geopolitical power. The relations of forces in the contemporary world are presented on the example of various measurement indicators. On their basis, there are signaled the basic tendencies in international relations. The author emphasizes the usefulness of empirical methods in the study of the international alignment of forces. He points out their importance in national security policy and strategy.

W niniejszym opracowaniu zaprezentowano wybrane tendencje, jakie w ostatnich latach można obserwować w pojmowaniu istoty bezpieczeństwa, które – jako kategoria poznawcza – cechuje się dużą złożonością. Jego fenomen stwarza szerokie możliwości badawcze, skłaniając do poszukiwań wykraczających poza utarte schematy. Właśnie dlatego stanowi tak wielką fascynację dla badaczy z różnych dziedzin naukowego poznania. Jednocześnie rozległość owego pola badań uniemożliwia sformułowanie defi nitywnych. Złożoność defi nicyjna wymaga więc, by w badaniach nad problematyką bezpieczeństwa stosować podejście systemowe. Wskazane jest także łączenie różnych podejść teoretycznych, gdyż w ich analizach dostrzegamy splot różnorodnych poglądów. Zwrócić jednak należy uwagę na konieczność ich usystematyzowania, gdyż nie tworzą one wciąż spójnego paradygmatu naukowego.
In this study there are presented selected tendencies in the understanding of the security essence, which can be observed recently. As a cognitive category – they are characterised by a big complexity. Its phenomen off ers wide research possibilities inducing to exceed common patterns. This is why it constitutes such a grand fascination for researchers from various fields of scientifi c cognition. Simultaneously, the wide scope of this research fi eld makes the formulation of defi nitions impossible. Therefore, the defi nition complexity requires to use a system approach in the research on safety. It is advisable also to combine various theoretical approaches, because in their analyses we notice a coincidence of various points of view. However, the attention should be turned to the necessity of their systematisation since they still do not create a coherent scientifi cparadigm.

The article points out the significant increase of the scope of studies on security, in both subject (including subjects other than countries, e.g. individuals) and object level. It can is shown by the shift of the emphasis from the military and political level of security on other levels, including the cultural and humanitarian ones. The discussion on the cultural challenges and threats, as well as the opportunities for security, has increased especially since the end of the Cold War. The increase of the military and political security, which took place at that time, facilitated opening for the international, including cultural, exchange. The spreading of the Western model of a liberal democracy, together with the free market rules and the protection of human rights and freedoms, made easier the process of international communication and strengthened the interdependence and internationalisation. In spite of these positive, freedom-oriented changes, however, the world is now facing challenges caused by the cultural progress, which in the process of globalisation and universalisation often results in negative phenomena such as the uniformisation of culture or the fading of cultural differences. The cultural security and the culture of safety, considered in this article, gain importance especially in the light of the visible need to strengthen the cultural identity of societies participating in the big international processes, which are taking place today, such as integration and globalisation. This importance of the cultural identity is now becoming even greater than the priority of protecting the sovereignty of countries. We can therefore assume that taking the cultural issues into consideration in the studies on security can contribute to a fuller understanding of the conditionings and mechanisms of both international politics and the principles of operation of the international system.
Artykuł okazuje, jak bardzo rozszerzony został zakres badań nad bezpieczeństwem, zarówno w wymiarze podmiotowym (uwzględniając inne podmioty niż państwa, w tym jednostki ludzkie), jak również w wymiarze przedmiotowym. Wyrazem tego jest fakt przeniesienia akcentu z wojskowo-politycznej płaszczyzny bezpieczeństwa na inne płaszczyzny, w tym na kulturową i humanitarną. O kulturowych wyzwaniach i zagrożeniach, ale także szansach dla bezpieczeństwa, mówi się zwłaszcza po zakończeniu „zimnej wojny”. Dokonane wówczas zwiększenie bezpieczeństwa militarnego i politycznego ułatwiło otwarcie na wymianę międzynarodową, w tym także kulturalną. Upowszechnienie zachodniego modelu demokracji liberalnej, wraz z zasadami wolnego rynku oraz ochroną praw i wolności człowieka, ułatwiło przy tym procesy komunikowania międzynarodowego oraz wpłynęło na zwiększenie współzależności i internacjonalizacji. Wbrew tym pozytywnym, wolnościowym zmianom, świat stoi jednak w obliczu wyzwań będących pochodną postępu cywilizacyjnego, który w procesach globalizacji i uniwersalizacji często wpływa na powstawanie negatywnych zjawisk uniformizacji kultury czy likwidowania odrębności kulturowych. Rozpatrywane tu bezpieczeństwo kulturowe i kultura bezpieczeństwa zyskują duże znaczenie zwłaszcza w dostrzeganej konieczności umacniania tożsamości kulturowych społeczeństw uczestniczących we współczesnych wielkich procesach międzynarodowych, jak integracje czy globalizacja. Owo znaczenie tożsamości staje się współcześnie niekiedy już ważniejsze od dotychczasowego prymatu ochrony suwerenności państwowej. Założyć więc można, że uwzględnienie w studiach nad bezpieczeństwem kwestii kulturowych przyczynia się do pełniejszego wyjaśniania uwarunkowań i mechanizmów zarówno polityki zagranicznej, jak i polityki bezpieczeństwa państw oraz wyjaśniania zasad funkcjonowania systemu międzynarodowego.

This article concerns problems of evolution of the Polish position towards the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) of the European Union (EU) since the Polish aspirations to accession to the EU. Therefore, the first point is addressed to the Polish position on these issues prior to accession to the EU. There are analyzed the then EU's relations with NATO, including the problem of their mutual competition, and Polish< anxiety concerns to this issue. There are discussed the efforts of following governments and key political positions. It is proved that the process of gradual improvement of relations between the EU and the NATO meant that Poland became increasingly modify its skeptical position towards the European initiatives. The main attention is focused on the possibility of the implementation of Poland's national interests. There is presented intensification of Polish involvement in the creation of the ESDP. A particular manifestation of Polish involvement in the development of the ESDP became our involved in the creation of the EU’ Battlegroups. There are presented problems relating to the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty and changes in the documents of the Polish national security, too. Moreover, there are analyzed changes in the international situation and relations between major Polish partners in the EU. An important issue, which is discussed in this article, is the involvement of Poland in the EU mission in Africa, and the importance of Polish initiative of the „Eastern Partnership”. The author argues that Poland needs for its national security the two institutions, both the EU and the NATO. Therefore, in the interest of Poland is to support European initiatives to strengthen the ESDP.
