The aim of the research was to show which theoretical statistical distribution best reflects and describes the variability of pollutant concentrations in treated sewage, discharged from small sewage treatment plants, characterised by a value below 2000 PE. The statistical analysis additionally takes into account the influence of the number of measuring sequence data on the shape and level of the distribution fit. The data for the research were obtained from three small sewage treatment plants, operating in the Lesser Poland, 10, 11 and 14 km from Kraków. Due to their size, these facilities are included in the group of treatment plants below 2000 PE. The research was conducted for 10 years. In the statistical analysis, 20-, 40-, 60- and 80-element data series were used, including the values of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical oxygen demand (CODCr) and total suspended solids (TSS), determined in samples of treated wastewater. Two commonly used tests, Kolmogorov-Smirnov λ and Pearson’s χ2 test were used to assess the fit of the theoretical statistical distribution to the empirical data distribution. Statistical analysis showed that the studied communities were characterised by an asymmetric, right-oblique distribution. Most often, the empirical distribution of the analysed measurement sequences was consistent with the Fisher-Tippett distribution. On the basis of the χ2 test, this distribution was described by a total of 31 out of 36 analysed groups at the significance level of a = 0.05. Other distributions that often describe the analysed empirical data are: Gamma, log-normal, Chi-square, and Weibull. The common feature of these distributions is usually asymmetry, right oblique. The skewness value ranges from 0.15 to 1.69.

The main aim of the study was to determine whether the amount and share of incidental water in wastewater inflows to the wastewater treatment plant increased with the age and development of the sewage system. The object of the study is a small sewerage system located in southern Poland, in the Lesser Poland Province, 15 km northeast of the Kraków city. The analysis of a 15-year observation series of daily wastewater flows, from 01.01.1994 to 31.12.2018, allowed a reliable assessment of the actions taken by the sewage system operator to reduce the sources of incidental water inflow to the sewage network. The study showed that the percentage share of incidental waters in the annual wastewater inflow to the analysed treatment plant decreased from 35.9% in 2004 to 8.4% in 2018. This reduction should be treated as a success of the remedial actions of the sewage system operator. However, the study showed at the same time that in 2017 alone, 56 709 m3 of incidental water flowed into the analysed sewerage system, compared to 166 075 m3 of wastewater. A similar case was repeated in 2013, when 53 060 m3 of incidental water and 132 860 m3 of real wastewater flowed into the treatment plant. These cases show that all remedial measures by the network operator are still insufficient when heavy precipitation occurs in a given year for a long period of time.

Kształtowanie niezawodności złożonych obiektów technicznych jakimi są układy wtryskowe powinno odbywać się zarówno na etapie projektowania, wytwarzania jak i ich eksploatacji technicznej. Szczególne znaczenie ma ten ostatni proces, gdzie ocena wpływu czynników zewnętrznych na prawdopodobieństwo poprawnej pracy wymaga poznania przynajmniej podstawowych wskaźników niezawodności. Zasadniczym celem niniejszego artykułu jest wyznaczenie najsłabszego ogniwa systemu Common Rail, wykorzystując dane empiryczne oraz dyskretną symulację komputerową.
Shaping the reliability of the complex technical objects which are the injection systems should be both during the stage of designing, producing and during their technical operation. The particular importance has the last process, where the assessment of impact of the external factors on the probability of the correct operation requires the knowledge of basic indicators of reliability. Determination of the weakest link of Common Rail system using the empirical data and the discrete computer simulation is the main aim of this article.

This article presents an approach to the verification of the safety integrity level (SIL) of rail vehicle subassemblies in accordance with the applicable railway standards PN-EN ISO 50126-1, PN-EN ISO 50126:2, and PN-EN ISO 50129. Particular attention has been given to the calculation procedure related to the determination of the tolerable hazard rate and tolerable functional failure rate indicators in a situation where various reliability indicators have been declared for components of rail vehicles, such as MTTFD or B10D. In this case, the verification of the safety integrity level using the above mentioned railway standards may be difficult, and it becomes necessary to use additional standards for safety systems based on electronic components. An example is the PN-EN ISO 13849-1:2006-01 standard, which contains a calculation method based on the transformation of the exponential model, which is useful for hazard and risk analyses of electronic systems containing components with different reliability indices. Another supplementary standard is the PN-EN 61025:2007 standard, which concerns fault tree analysis. Based on the above-mentioned standards, an algorithm was developed to verify the safety integrity level of the frequency converter control system. The obtained results allowed us to confirm the fulfillment of the functional safety requirements of the considered system.

The reliability of supply of logistics systems is the one of the most important factors determining the competitiveness of businesses. The main purpose of this paper is to assess the reliability of supply of a given system with the use of warranty analysis, based on the Nevada chart. The reliability analysis performed is done in the following way: shipping and warranty return data of a given supply system are converted into a classic data form. Then, the life data analysis is performed, which allows to obtain the given reliability indicators and predict the future returns of the products and services. The paper consists of some useful reliability measures, that may be used in the assessment of reliability for the supply system. Used reliability indicators may be the basis for the development of the preventive tasks to reduce the future returns. The presented approach for reliability assessment of supply system discloses its applicability. Forecasting the future returns and determining the selected reliability measures may be applied in any supply system. It is valuable for the identification of the weakest product or service and it is necessary for developing further preventive activities.

The article investigates the influence of preventive maintenance on the reliability and availability indexes of the railway means of transport, which also determine the economic aspects of their operation and maintenance. The research was done using the method based on fault tree analysis (FTA) and Monte Carlo simulation. The authors performed a cause and effect analysis of the occurrence of undesirable events during the operation of selected vehicles. They identified the weakest components of the rail vehicle that affect the downtime and mean availability most significantly. Specialized software including Weibull++, BlockSim, and MiniTab aided calculations were used to illustrate the application of the results of a modernization project involving a 6Dg diesel locomotive, carried out in cooperation with the biggest Polish rail carrier. The applicability of the proposed tools has been verified on the example of a selected sample of 75 diesel locomotives employing data on their use and maintenance acquired in the real operation process. The obtained results indicate that the proposed approach can be particularly useful in practice when assessing the applied rail vehicle maintenance strategy, and while developing new strategies and selecting the best one to implement.

Opis:
Twin-screw extrusion is a crucial method for the direct inserting of carbon micro- and nanomaterials into a polymer matrix using a dry procedure. The study aimed to determine the influence of the parameters of the twin-screw extruder plasticizing system on the dispersion homogeneity and distribution of graphite filler in the polylactide polymer matrix and overall quality of the composite. As a filler, a graphite micropowder with a 5 μm lateral size of platelets was used at concentration of 1 wt.%. Three configurations of screws with different mixing intensity and various types segments were considered in the extrusion experiments. Morphology and chemical structure of the obtained composites were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy – attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR) and Raman spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and melting flow rate measurements (MFR) were used to asses thermal and rheological properties of the composites. Samples of the polylactide/graphite composites were also subjected to mechanical tests. The results show that the selection of the mechanical parameters of twin-screw extruder plasticizing system plays a key role in the preparation of the homogeneous PLA/graphite composites. Incorrect selection of the screw geometry results in poor mixing quality and a significant deterioration of the mechanical and thermal properties of the composites. Optimised mixing and extrusion parameters can be the starting point for the design of efficient twin-screw extruder plasticizing system for fabrication of PLA composites with carbon nanotube and graphene fillers.
