Opis:
The influence of chosen saccharides on the growth and development of the in vitro shoot cultures of Paulownia tomentosa – valuable and multi-purpose tree species. The mainly sucrose (10–50 g dm-3), glucose and fructose (15.8 and 30 g dm-3) were tested in three subsequent passages. Then the usefulness of saccharides in different applications of in vitro cultures was assessed. The basic MS medium supplemented with BA (1 mg dm-3), NAA (0.1 mg dm-3), and GA3 (0.1 mg dm-3) was used. Saccharides in tested concentrations influenced development of in vitro cultures. Proliferation of axillary shoots remained comparable whereas the development of adventitious shoots significantly and the frequency of vitrification decreased while the concentration of sucrose increased from 20 to 40 g dm-3. Glucose (15.8 g dm-3) stimulated both proliferation and elongation of axillary shoots. Sucrose (10 g dm-3), and fructose (15.8 g dm-3) favoured development of adventitious shoots and vitrification of cultures. The media supplemented with sucrose (30–40 g dm-3) or glucose (15.8 g dm-3) may be recommended for micropropagation of true-to-type plants, whereas sucrose (50 g dm-3), and fructose (15.8 g dm-3) for long term storage, and plant breeding, respectively.
W pracy badano wpływ wybranych cukrów na wzrost i rozwój pędowych kultur in vitro paulowni puszystej (Paulownia tomentosa) – wartościowego gatunku drzewa o wielostronnym zastosowaniu. Przetestowano, a następnie określono przydatność kilku cukrów, głównie sacharozy (10–50 g dm-3) oraz glukozy i fruktozy (15,8 i 30 g dm-3). Cukry były składnikiem pożywki MS z dodatkiem BA (1 mg dm-3), NAA (0,1 mg dm-3) i GA3 (0,1 mg dm-3). Sacharoza w rosnącym stężeniu (20–40 g dm-3) nie oddziaływała wyraźnie na proliferację pędów kątowych, podczas gdy ograniczała istotnie rozwój pędów przybyszowych i występowanie szklistości. Glukoza (15,8 g dm-3) stymulowała zarówno proliferację, jak i elongację pędów kątowych. Sacharoza (10 g dm-3) i fruktoza (15,8 g dm-3) sprzyjały rozwojowi pędów przybyszowych i witryfikacji kultur. Pożywki z dodatkiem sacharozy (30–40 g dm-3) lub glukozy (15,8 g dm-3) mogą być polecane do mikrorozmnażania roślin, podczas gdy sacharoza (50 g dm-3) i fruktoza (15,8 g dm-3) odpowiednio do kolekcjonowania kultur in vitro i hodowli twórczej z wykorzystaniem technik opartych na pędach przybyszowych.

Opis:
Preliminary studies on the sediments collected from water meters of Krakow water supply system were performed in the cooperation with the Municipal Water Supply and Sewage. Creation and deposition of sediments on the measuring devices installed in the water supply system is a serious technological and economical problem for water companies, defectively operating for this reason water meters must be replaced. It is evident that knowledge of the chemical and phase composition of sediments is an important step towards resolving the problem of impurities in water supply systems. Four different samples of sediments, coming from water meters, were investigated using the proton-induced X-ray emission, the X-ray diffraction, the Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectroscopy. The X-ray methods revealed presence of amorphous and fine-crystalline phases as well as high content of iron-based compounds. As a crystalline phase, the most frequently appeared: goethite, lepidocrocite, iron oxides (hematite, maghemite, magnetite), calcium carbonate, and quartz. In one of the samples, the nanocrystalline phase was found and identified as hydrous iron oxyhydroxide ferrihydrite. Vibrational spectroscopy methods confirmed the composition of crystalline phases as well as enabled to estimate the abundance of amorphous phase in samples.

Opis:
Introduction. The article describes the process of converting a large multi-specialized hospital into one dedicated to COVID-19 patients, and present established standards of work organization in all the wards and training system of the medical and supporting staff. The several weeks pandemic of the COVID-19 disease has forced the healthcare systems of numerous countries to adjust their resources to the care of the growing number of COVID-19 patients. Managers were presented with the challenge of protecting the healthcare workers from transmission of the disease within medical institutions, and issues concerning the physical and psychological depletion of personnel. Materials and method. Based on analyses of the structure and work processes in Central Clinical Hospital (CCH) reconstructive strategic plan was developed. It included: division of existing wards into observation and isolation wards; installing locks; weekly plan for supplying personal protection equipment (PPE); designating new access to the hospital and communication routes; training of medical and supporting staff. The plan was implemented from the first days of conversion of the hospital. Results. The wards of the CCH were converted for observation and isolation, and each one was fitted with sanitary locks. There was a big improvement in the supply of PPE for the medical staff. Separation of the ‘dirty’ and ‘clean’ parts of the CCH were attained, and widespread intensive training not only protected personnel against infections, but also diminished unrest which was discernable at the beginning of conversion. Conclusions. The transformation efforts will ultimately be appraised at the end of the epidemic, but the data looks encouraging. Two weeks after conversion, the testing of hospital Staff was started and by the end of April, 459 tests were had been conducted, of which only 11 were positive.
