Opis:
One major problem associated with gliding is the safety of the crew during landings in the country outside the airfield. The analysis of glider-accident statistics shows that such out-landings may significantly influence the safety. Therefore, of vital importance are the crashworthiness properties of the glider fuselage structure. The subject of the study was the PW-5 glider fuselage made of composites and subjected to high loads typical of glider crashes. The aim was to provide experimental data for validation of a numerical model of the cockpit-pilot system during impact. Two experimental tests with the composite glider cockpit were performed using a typical car-crash track. During the first test the cockpit with a dummy inside was crashed onto the ground at the angle of 45 degrees at a speed of 55 km/h. Accelerations and deformations at chosen points in the cockpit as well as signals coming from the dummy sensors and forces in the seat belts were recorded. The second test was an impact into a concrete wall at a speed of about 80 km/h. The full-scale tests were accompanied by a number of quasi-static and dynamic laboratory tests on samples of composite material. The experimental tests provided valuable results for the parametrical identification of a simulation model developed using the MADYMO software.

Opis:
A vehicle hitting a traffic barrier creates a major threat to traffic safety as a result of displacement of components of the barrier by the forces transferred from the vehicle. We built a theoretical model of the dynamics of such processes and behaviour of concrete barriers set on various types of surfaces. We calculated the displacement as a function of vehicle impact energy and barrier base. We completed analytical approximation for our calculations and we referred the theoretical results to experimental test results. This validated our model of barrier and vehicle movement dynamics as fully qualified for use in the planning of safer barriers and evaluation of barrier effect on traffic. Basing on our calculations, we determined that a second-order polynomial can be used for describing the lateral displacement of a barrier placed on various types of surfaces for a wide range of impact energies (actually, from O to 120 kJ). The courses of the approximating function represent an efficient model for determining the maximum lateral displacement of a concrete barrier on impact of a B or C segment vehicle.

In order to verify the correctness of the numerical model the experimental tests of the 9 mm Parabellum projectile impact onto the Armox 500 armour steel plate were carried out. The behaviour of the projectile for the impact velocities 100 m/s, 126.5 m/s, 134.3 m/s, 136.4 m/s and 143.8 m/s was examined. After firing tests the deformation of the mushroom, the length of the projectile and the depth of the hole of the deformed projectile (DHDP) were measured. The model curve for determination of the projectile deformation work Edp in function of its shortening ?L was elaborated. The 3D numerical simulations of the 9 mm Parabellum projectile impact onto the Armox 500 steel plate for the velocities obtained during the experimental tests with the use of the Ansys - Autodyn v12.1.0 program were performed. The difference between the dimensions of the projectile deformation achieved during the 3D numerical simulations and the experimental tests amounted to XM = 0.1÷4.6%, XL = 1÷7.9%, XDHDP = 6.7÷47.3%, for the mushroom, length of the projectile and the depth of hole of the deformed projectile (DHDP) respectively. The 2D numerical simulations considering the friction coefficients between the coat and core of the projectile (XM = 0.1÷6.1%, XL = 0.1÷4.6%, XDHDP = 0.6÷24.1%) were performed.

The aim of presented work is examination of blast wave, especially incident and reflected wave pressure. Due to many difficulties and complexity of phenomenon a complete study for different charges should be done. In presented paper two cylindrical TNT charges were used, weighting respectively 100 g and 200 g. Pressure wave was examined using original test stand designed and developed on Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science. A test steel test plate with 5 mm thickness was equipped with pressure gauge to measure reflected wave. Additionally, the plate was placed on four special electroresistance strain gauges...To measure force Vishay EA-06-120-060LZ strain gauges were used. For amplification of the dynamometers with strain gauges, MS1001 INFEL bridge was used. The system was used to validate the results from reflected wave pressure gauge. Shock wave pressures was measured using a special sensor model 137A21 amd M350B21 made by PCB Piezotronics At specific distance there was also incident wave pressure gauge. In order to fully examine the dynamic response of the plate an accelerometer was used. As a result, pressure versus time and acceleration versus time plots were obtained. The results will be used to validate numerical model of blast wave impact on a plate.

This analysis considers the problem related to the transport safety improvement by applying specialized energy absorbing elements. The advanced finite element method was used to solve this problem. The obtained results permit to estimate the practical usability of the proposed solution. In previous works of the examination team [1-5] a series of numerical analysis of the car -- road barrier dynamical system, directed to the elaboration of the numerical model methodology of an impact problem with the use of chosen CAE programs, was submitted. In this article experimental results of a Suzuki Swift car impact into a standard road barrier arę presented. Tests were carried out at the Automotive Industry Institute (PIMOT) in Warsaw, with the use of a test sample of the road barrier. Presented results of experimental tests serve to validation of a numerical model of the aforementioned system. For the safety sake the car's speed during the experimental examinations was limited to 50 km/h. Moreover, the vehicle hit perpendicularly a properly modified road barrier's sector. Experimental initial boundary and constructional conditions were modelled in numerical examinations. in which a commonlv available Suzuki Swift car model, http://www.ncac.gwu.edu, was used. Numerical analysis was carried out with the use of LS-DYNA system.

Opis:
An example of the experimental validation ofafinite element model of a selected heavy vehicle is presented in the paper. A truck tractor with a three axle single drop lowboy trailer and the total weight of 20 tons was selected as a representative for the tests. The major goal of the conducted studies was to develop a well validated the numerical model of a heavy vehicle applicable for computer simulation of dynamic interaction between a vehicle and a bridge or road structure. Therefore, only several components of the vehicle, affecting the vehicle-road interaction, like wheels and the suspension systems, were modelled in detail. The rest of components were simplified and considered as rigid bodies. The finite element model included fully pneumatic tires and the suspension system modelled with discrete massless springs and dampers. Numerical analyzes were performed using the LS-DYNA computer code. The validation and calibration procedure proposed in the current paper was carried out in two steps. In the first one, some parameters such as material densities, thickness of selected elements, were modified to achieve the correct mass distribution in the model based on the measured axle loads. In the next step the stiffness and damping parameters of the suspension system were evaluated based on the results of the experimental tests. The spring and damping coefflcients at all axles were adjusted until the performance of the FE model closely matched that of the actual vehicle.

The article presents a numerical analysis of the CP745 marine propeller model by means of the improved vortex method and CFD simulations. Both numerical approaches are validated experimentally by comparing with open water characteristics of the propeller. The introduced modification of the vortex method couples the lifting surface approach for the propeller blades and the boundary element method for the hub. What is more, a simple algorithm for determination of the propeller induced advance angles is established. The proposed modifications provide better results than the original version of the vortex method. The accuracy of the improved method becomes comparable to CFD predictions, being at the same time a few hundred times faster than CFD.

This work is concerned with concepts and some results regardine the problem of aerodynamic interference in the system. The main emphasis is put on a practical, cost-effective engineering solution to this complex problem with reasonable computational efficiency allowing a code to run on PC computers. Prediction of separation trajectories of external stores is an important task in the aerodynamic design area having the objective to define operational release envelopes. To attain this purpose, a technique based on the Non-linear Panel Method with an unsteady free wake formulation has been developed. The comparison with a flight test as well as wind tunnel investigations has proved the reliability of this methodology.

A cross-flow, tube and fin heat exchanger of the water – air type is the subject of the analysis. The analysis had experimental and computational form and was aimed for evaluation of radiative heat transfer impact on the heat exchanger performance. The main element of the test facility was an enlarged recurrent segment of the heat exchanger under consideration. The main results of measurements are heat transfer rates, as well as temperature distributions on the surface of the first fin obtained by using the infrared camera. The experimental results have been next compared to computational ones coming from a numerical model of the test station. The model has been elaborated using computational fluid dynamics software. The computations have been accomplished for two cases: without radiative heat transfer and taking this phenomenon into account. Evaluation of the radiative heat transfer impact in considered system has been done by comparing all the received results.

The current paper presents the experimental validation of the generalized model of the two-phase thermosyphon loop. The generalized model is based on mass, momentum, and energy balances in the evaporators, rising tube, condensers and the falling tube. The theoretical analysis and the experimental data have been obtained for a new designed variant. The variant refers to a thermosyphon loop with both minichannels and conventional tubes. The thermosyphon loop consists of an evaporator on the lower vertical section and a condenser on the upper vertical section. The one-dimensional homogeneous and separated two-phase flow models were used in calculations. The latest minichannel heat transfer correlations available in literature were applied. A numerical analysis of the volumetric flow rate in the steady-state has been done. The experiment was conducted on a specially designed test apparatus. Ultrapure water was used as a working fluid. The results show that the theoretical predictions are in good agreement with the measured volumetric flow rate at steady-state.

Opis:
Plate-like structures with attached piezo-patch elements are widely used in marine, aerospace and civil infrastructure applications to power small devices with low power demand or used for monitoring of vibration structures. In order to assess the feasibility of an energy harvesting system to generate power output from a harvester, an accurate electromechanical model of the piezo-patch harvester attached to a 2D structure in modal coordinates is required. Taking into account this fact, this study is focused on the analysis of the piezoharvester orientations on the SFSF (Simply Supported-Free-Simply Supported-Free) plate undergoing forced dynamic excitation. The results obtained from the numerical analysis of a smart structure led to determining quasi-optimal piezo-harvester location on the structure, and next, to determining a multi-mode representation of the equivalent circuit model. The experimental set-up carried out on the lab stand properly verified the parameters of the ECM model. Finally, the proposed approach can be used for the structural health monitoring of vibration of some 2D mechanical structures like the front wall of a dishwasher.

In order to overcome the drawbacks in artificial horizon indicator (HI) of inside-in type (a view from an aircraft (A/C)), where pilots produce mistakes in maintenance of attitude orientation most of all, the authors offer a novel training method. The method is based on the hypothesis that the manipulative ability of a human visual system can be trained. A mathematical model for the data accumulation during the corresponding training procedure has been proposed. Construction, design and results of the model evaluation are presented in the article. The experimental results revealed the increase of the probability of faultless operation by the test group of up to 0,892, whereas the faultless operation probability of a control group was 0,726. Thus, the trainee-students have statistically increased the reliability for the maintenance of attitude orientation thanks to the proposed method, and the hypothesis was confirmed.

The article presents study on computer modeling of polymer plasticizing in injection molding. Several years ago, the complete version of the mathematical model of this process had been created. According to the mathematical model, a computer program was developed. Based on the computer program, simulation studies of injection molding process, showing the impact of the technological process and the geometry of the screw on the process of polymers plasticizing, have been made. In a further step, there is need to perform experimental research, evaluating the theoretical model in terms of its accuracy and usefulness. Important output quantities, which are profiles of temperature and pressure, as well as the power consumption of the plasticizing system, the torque of the screw and the screw rotation time can be measured and thus determine the correctness and accuracy of the simulation model. These measurements should be done on a specially designed measuring position, consisting of a suitably instrumented injection machine, connected with a recording system, which saves all measurement data read from the injection molding machine. The aim of this article is discuss of such position and analysis of results of preliminary experimental research made on this position.
