Internet fraud is increasing, however, its prosecution remains at a relatively low level in many jurisdictions. One factor which may account for the said situation is the police preparedness to investigate Internet fraud crime. The paper explores this hypothesis on the basis of two surveys: the first one conducted in the United States and the second - in Poland.

The article presents interpretations of the concepts of cybersecurity and cybercrime as well as the abuse of the term cybernetic. The author refers to information as a new “centre of gravity” of the nation’s power and special attention is paid to activities aimed at ensuring a high level of information security in Poland. The assumptions of the draft Act on the national cybersecurity system are described and particular emphasis is placed on the issues of technical and organisational reporting and the handling of ICT security incidents. The author points out that handling incidents violating cyber security at a strategic level for a country ought to be considered as an intentional action of a definite and repeatable character. Here the reference to the ISO/IEC standards and recommendations can be found. Moreover, behaviours related to securing digital evidence after an incident, including the so-called good practice in relation to the reaction in the event of an incident, are presented. A simplified procedure for securing computer hardware, as a recommended method of action in case of the triage and live data forensics, are suggested in the article. The recommendations of the FORZA methodology and frameworks are also discussed. When summarising, the author underlines that it is essential to prepare appropriate procedures and personnel for the broadly understood handling of incidents violating cybersecurity. This includes protection of digital evidence according to the procedures, good practice and suggestions contained in normative documents, as well as implementing cybersecurity policy, bringing legislation into line with international standards and educating users and the judiciary.

Opis:
The space of a tiny town was the hiding place of a little boy from Jerzy Kosinski’s Painted Bird. However, life amongst bad villagers, violence, pigsticking, alongside the shortage of food was not easy at all. Both the historical events and everyday situations triggered the boy’s reflections and rhetorical al questions: ‘’Was the Red Army coming? The throbbing in the earth was like a heartbeat. I was wondering why, if God could change sinners into pillars of salt so easily, why was salt so expensive? And why doesn’t He turn some sinners into meat and sugar? The villagers certainly needed these as much as they salt’’. During specific times, such as war and occupation, the analysis of threads connected with meat and food, pigsticking and sausages in particular shows two different orders: the nutritional as the first, the second one deals with the ‘meatness category’ considered as carnality and the potential to see the other human beings as meat and soul (or meat and dreams, as Hubert used to say). The article aims to present the above mentioned orders of talking about meat and certain ‘meatness category’ in a literary text.

The article analyses the particular interest that the documentary filmmakers of the late 1950s had in the architectural and urban issues. The reasons for this phenomenon are situated in several plans: they refer to the image of reconstruction from the war devastation and the reaction to its falsification in the period of socialist realism. They refer to the social interests of the filmmakers and to the strategy of metaphorising and allegorising the images of the city, which was handy in the times of censorship as it extended meanings and applied non-literality. The article analyses various film incarnations of this phenomenon.

Opis:
Thuja occidentalis and T. plicata belong to alien trees most frequently cultivated in Europe. Morphologically they differ significantly from each other and their natural ranges are geographically isolated, hence the taxonomic status of both taxa has never been questioned. In cultivation, however, these species are often very difficult to distinguish so speculations appeared that they can hybridize with each other. Reports about their hybrids growing in the Kórnik Arboretum, Poland, have been delivered several times; for the first time in 1933, then in 1957 and in 1981. In the latter publication, based on those hybrids, a new nothospecies Thuja ×plicatoides was described. That name, however, was not validly published, because its Latin diagnosis was limited only to a few words and no mention was made of how the hybrid differed from its parental species. The analysis of numerous arborvitae specimens growing in the Kórnik Arboretum, and in many other places in Poland, has shown that the earlier reports about the occurrence of Thuja hybrids in cultivation were fully justified. The results of this study were documented by numerous photographs showing the main diagnostic features of T. occidentalis, T. plicata and their hybrids. Special attention was paid to the characteristics of cones, which are rarely used in the Thuja taxonomy. The shape of cone scales, the length of the scale mucro and the structure of small 'lips' on the scale apices turned out to be significant cone features; the latter was used for the first time when distinguishing between both Thuja species. The cone and leaf features made it possible to recognize not only 'pure' species, but also their hybrids. The name Thuja ×plicatoides Seneta, for formal reasons has been rejected, so for the hybrids a new name Thuja ×senetiana has been proposed, which commemorates Włodzimierz Seneta, an outstanding Polish dendrologist.

Opis:
Jerzy Grotowski (1933–1999), considered to be one of the greatest theatre artists of the 20th century, frequently expressed his ambivalent relation to words, repeating that any true knowledge has to be obtained by practice. However, all his life he had been creating and publishing text. The volume collecting them all in print has 1131 pages. Researchers interpreting his art (e.g. Krzysztof Rutkowski, Zbigniew Osiński) and his close collaborators like Ludwik Flaszen many times underlined the importance of Grotowski’s writings, stressing a special function the literature played in the artist’s research. Following their recognitions, partly polemizing with them, one can formulate some basic assumptions concerning the character and functions of Grotowski’s writing and its relation to the main aspects of contemporary literature. This was the man of theatre appears to be also an aware creator of a literature paradoxically close related and working for a mystery beyond the words.

Opis:
Artykuł omawia spektakl Tragiczne dzieje doktora Fausta według Christophera Marlowe'a w reżyserii Jerzego Grotowskiego wystawiony w Teatrze Laboratorium w Opolu (premiera 23 kwietnia 1963 roku). To właśnie dzięki takim skojarzeniom Tragiczne dzieje doktora Fausta zostały nazwane "misterium zgrozy  i urzeczenia".
This article deals with the production of The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus after Christopher Marlowe directed by Jerzy Grotowski and put on by the Laboratory Theatre in Opole (premiered on 23 April 1963). The show became famous mostly for Zbigniew Cynkutis’ outstanding performance in the title role and Jerzy Gurawski’s stage set. It was also the first of Grotowski’s productions that garnered international acclaim. Until now, however, not enough attention has been paid to its dramaturgy and overall significance as an autonomous piece of artistic expression; instead, it has been viewed mostly as a step on the way to Grotowski’s more mature theatre. By reconstructing and recounting the particular scenes in chronological order the author presents his own interpretation of each of them and of the performance as a whole. Through this process, almost scandalous associations of great historical and ethical themes (e.g. theology after the Holocaust) with personal struggles with private inhibitions and intimate experiences can be found. It is through such associations that The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus was named "a mystery of awe and wonder."

The aim of the study was to analyze indications and results of the first one thousand liver transplantations at Chair and Clinic of General, Transplantation and Liver Surgery, Medical University of Warsaw.Material and methods. Data from 1000 transplantations (944 patients) performed at Chair and Clinic of General, Transplantation and Liver Surgery between 1994 and 2011 were analyzed retrospectively. These included 943 first transplantations and 55 retransplantations and 2 re-retransplantations. Frequency of particular indications for first transplantation and retransplantations was established. Perioperative mortality was defined as death within 30 days after the transplantation. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to estimate 5-year patient and graft survival.Results. The most common indications for first transplantation included: liver failure caused by hepatitis C infection (27.8%) and hepatitis B infection (18%) and alcoholic liver disease (17.7%). Early (< 6 months) and late (> 6 months) retransplantations were dominated by hepatic artery thrombosis (54.3%) and recurrence of the underlying disease (45%). Perioperative mortality rate was 8.9% for first transplantations and 34.5% for retransplantations. Five-year patient and graft survival rate was 74.3% and 71%, respectively, after first transplantations and 54.7% and 52.9%, respectively, after retransplantations.Conclusions. Development of liver transplantation program provided more than 1000 transplantations and excellent long-term results. Liver failure caused by hepatitis C and B infections remains the most common cause of liver transplantation and structure of other indications is consistent with European data.
