Opis:
The purpose of this article is to present a mental model of knowledge as a concept map as an input to knowledge management (KM) investigations. This article’s extended knowledge concept map can serve as a resource where the investigation, development, or application of knowledge would be served with a broad mental model of knowledge. Previously unrelated concepts are related; knowledge concepts can sometimes be expressed as a range, i.e., certainty related states: view, opinion, sentiment, persuasion, belief, and conviction. Extrathesis is identified as a potential skill level higher than synthesis, and associated with the concepts: discovery, institution, insight (the event), revelation, or illumination that precedes innovation. Qualitative methods were used to gather and document concepts. System engineering and object analysis methods were applied to define and relate concepts. However, the theoretical sampling and theoretical saturation methods applied do not guarantee all appropriate concepts have been identified. Given the breadth, depth, and dimensionality of concepts of knowledge, later researchers may add additional concepts. This article provides evidence of additional things people know, an alternative to psychology’s acquaintanceship, understanding and placement of newer categorizations of knowledge in relation to older ones, and suggests that ranges for knowledge terms exist. This article extends the 2015 paper on this topic by: 1) taking a deeper look into epistemological terms and relationships, 2) providing contextual definitions, 3) suggesting extrathesis as an idea beyond synthesis, 4) updating the concept map; and 5) providing new insight on the overloaded knows including adding an eleventh know. It provides a much more solid basis for KM investigations than typical presentations, providing a broad understanding of knowledge that is beneficial.

Opis:
In this conceptual paper, we suggest that knowledge flows constitute the antecedences of value creation by means of its communication component. Knowledge is increasingly being accepted as a source of value creation and a differentiator between firms. However, to a large extent, current approaches to management and governance of knowledge resources prescribe measurements of the stock of knowledge. Therefore, we suggest a bridge that connects current knowledge sharing understanding with properties from communication theory, to explicate knowledge in use through a communication patterns perspective. Building on the perspective of knowledge as a flow, and postulating that value is based on knowledge use, rather than knowledge possession, this paper addresses the research question: How can we express knowledge in such a way that it can be monetized and made accessible to specific managerial interventions? We explain how communication is instrumental in capturing knowledge value and allows for a connection with monetary value. Extant literature on organizational communication roles emphasizes the role of boundary-spanners in the search for and combination of experience and tacit knowledge. Individual nodes in organizational networks can possess knowledge. However, to be valuable, the knowledge resources need to be deployed and utilized. The use of knowledge will involve the communication of this knowledge through ties to other nodes. The paper proposes that boundary-spanning roles provide a focal point for such monetization efforts. The contribution of this paper is six propositions for future research on how management accounting and control systems can be brought to bear in their governable and calculable aspects if communication functions are given more attention.

The concept of creative industries is becoming popular in recent years. Therefore, many publications deal with this topic. Nevertheless, fewer of them are dedicated to managerial issues. Most publications concentrate on the scope of creative industries and their influence on economy and society. The first aim of this paper is to present the specificity of management of organization in creative industry and its activity. The second aim is to collect and cite different definitions of knowledge replication to explain the meaning of the notion of knowledge replication. The third aim is to show the role of knowledge replication for organization’s activity in creative industries. The article also contains an introduction concerning different approaches to definition and classification of creative industries.

The paper is devoted to the analysis of the creation of university's potential for knowledge transfer to the business environment. The analysis will be presented in the system inspired by the model proposed by Tidd, Bessant and Pavitt [2005] which is as follows: (i) generating knowledge (ii) searching for and identifying knowledge, (iii) evaluating and selecting ides, (iv) implementing in practice. Each stage creates different challenges for the university's operations (also the final stage, which is not generally carried out by the university), which will be included in the analysis. The results of the theoretical analysis are referred to the results of the research concerning knowledge transfer practices among universities in Lodz. A total of thirty-five cases of knowledge transfer practices were included in the analysis. The analysis conducted in 2010 and 2011 covered types of practices, the initiative of carrying out practices, their duration, the nature of practices, their subject scope and impact as well as risks and benefits associated with implementing knowledge transfer practices. The preliminary exploration, interviews and innovation studies conducted indicate that the analysis covered a vast majority of such practices, which means that it is representative of the Lodz region.

This paper presents a case study from Hungary about the “Nagykunságért” LEADER Local Action Group, which demonstrates the limits of an actor’s involvement in local rural development. Project participation in this region depends on the financial and managerial capacity of participants. Actors with capacity are involved with the project as a matter of course, but those without capacity are crowded out and lack access to resources. Actors in rural development are characterised by their ability to disseminate diverse kinds of information and use of knowledge. Inclusion, exclusion, and the power of local oligarchies are main concepts in this paper, which studies LEADER as a tool which may be used either for democracy or against local democratic control over the distribution of development funds.

The university has been transformed by competition and consumer values, seen most vividly in the UK. Knowledge and learning are reduced to what can be easily measured, calculated and compared. The impoverished and reductive language that has taken hold affects the way in which we think about education and how we behave and live out our academic lives: it does not allow enquiry of the questions that matter – and which are central to an education that is higher – and that do not go away however much the view is of solving problems and reducing things to a question of economic value.

Opis:
One relatively new area of contemporary science research on management is crowdsourcing and virtual knowledge sharing occurring within it. It is defined as the dissemination of knowledge by a virtual community, informing others, making it public, expecting that others will comment on this knowledge, expand and complete it. Such a sharing of knowledge is particularly important for co-creating, participating, or acquiring innovative ideas by an organization. However, despite its positive impact on the organization, it has not been the subject of comprehensive research so far. This article presents the existing output in the scope of the ways of measuring community knowledge sharing within crowdsourcing. In this elaboration, explanations as to why it is worth studying virtual knowledge sharing may be found.

Therefore, the aim of this research is the examination of organizational culture in small Polish companies with the application of a symbolic-interpretive perspective.

Opis:
Charmides is a dialogue highly indicative of the importance that the prologues to Plato’s works have for our understanding of the whole spirit and philosophical content of each dialogue as a whole. It is representative of the Platonic tendency to always combine philosophical content with dramatic form through narrative and drama, in order to enhance the reader’s and audience’s insight into the inquiries of his philosophical work. Following this line of presentation, the prologue of Charmides prefigures the understanding of the central themes of the dialogue; focusing on the depiction of Socrates as a therapist and of Dialectic as a therapy or a kind of remedy, which through the process of dialectical engagement and interaction reestablishes the relation of each interlocutor to his own self. The Apollonian ideal of self-knowledge (know thyself) is construed as a “greeting” of the god to worshipers who enter the temple, not as a moral counsel or as a piece of advice. This distinction implies the difference between a knowledge conveyed from without and a knowledge discovered by insightful inner search of one’s self. Within the passages 165c to 175a, sōphrosunē is presented and examined as “the knowledge of what one knows and what one does not know.” It has been claimed that in this part of the dialogue, the Socratic model of self-knowledge is subjected by Plato to the Socratic elenchus, where he attempts to make a criticism of it. I believe that this section of the dialogue is an extended excursus, aimed towards introducing and examining a model of self-knowledge different from that of Socrates, Critias’ model of self-knowledge. This model of self-knowledge poses a whole series of philosophical problems; the relation between the subject and the object of knowledge, the possibility of their identification or the distinction between them, the possibility of the existence of an internal and external object of knowledge, the relation of this model of self-knowledge with other kinds or domains of knowledge, and the question whether external knowledge or knowledge of other knowledges is a constituent of knowledge of knowledge. The question of the possibility of knowledge of knowledge is not definitely rejected, especially if we consider that in all of this discussion there is a hint towards the way in which philosophy works and relates to other kinds of knowledge. I believe, however, that in the last part of the dialogue, where the knowledge of good and bad emerges, Plato again meets Socrates and becomes reconciled with him. The only knowledge that is useful and beneficial is knowledge of good and bad. In this way Plato chooses to put forward a self-conscious model of self-knowledge, which does not presuppose, as Critias’ model does, the critical examination of knowledge or the critical distance from knowledge. This self-conscious model of self-knowledge is connected with the knowledge of good and bad. On the one hand doing of good presupposes knowledge of good and bad and on the other, “doing one’s own things” presupposes self-knowledge. The possibility of knowing good and bad is ensured by each person, either through looking deep within himself or by orientating towards the Idea of the Good itself.

The article presents an epistemological and partially methodological analysis of cognitive science as a scientific discipline, created as a result of the transformations that took place in the philosophical and psychological concepts of the mind and cognition, which were carried out with the aid of tools and methods of modelling as well as through simulating human cognitive processes and consciousness. In order to describe this interdisciplinary (transdisciplinary) science, and its positions, as well as the stages and directions of its development, it makes use of the epistemological model formulated by Michel Foucault, in which he draws attention to social, ideological and technological conditions of scientific knowledge (episteme). The opinions of the leading creators and critics of cognitive science, such as George A. Miller, Howard Gardner, Margaret Boden and José Luis Bermúdez are referenced to and analyzed with the use of this model. The article shows the epistemologically and methodologically divergent status of cognitive science, as well as its cognitive and institutional conditions and challenges, which stand before it after half a century of intensive development.
W artykule przeprowadzono epistemologiczną i częściowo metodologiczną analizę kognitywistyki (cognitive science) jako dyscypliny naukowej, która powstała wskutek przeobrażeń w filozoficznych i psychologicznych koncepcjach umysłu i poznania poprzez zastosowanie w nich narzędzi i metod modelowania oraz symulacji ludzkich procesów poznawczych i świadomości. Do opisu powstania tej interdyscyplinarnej (transdyscyplinarnej) nauki, jej etapów, stanowisk i kierunków rozwoju przyjmuje się model epistemologiczny sformułowany przez Michela Foucaulta, w którym zwraca on uwagę na społeczne, ideologiczne i technologiczne uwarunkowania wiedzy naukowej (episteme). Dzięki niemu referowane i analizowane są opinie o kognitywistyce takich czołowych jej twórców i krytyków, jak George A. Miller, Howard Gardner, Margaret Boden i José Luis Bermúdez. Ukazany został zróżnicowany epistemologiczno-metodologiczny status kognitywistyki (cognitive science), jak też jej poznawcze i instytucjonalne uwarunkowania oraz wyzwania, przed którymi stoi po półwieczu intensywnego rozwoju.

The article focuses on the issue of knowledge and skills of students of pre-school and early school pedagogy specializations, which are to enable them to effectively provide psychological and pedagogical assistance. Particular attention was paid to diagnostic competence, understood not only as the ability to recognize the state – how it is, but also as the ability to determine why it is so and to take action to change this state. For the purposes of the research, the method of informal, written tests of school achievements was used, which was conducted among 216 third-year students, first-cycle studies, faculty of pedagogy, specialty: pre-school and early-school pedagogy. The analyzed material confirms the current knowledge in this area and indicates that achieving the desired state of knowledge and skills of students preparing themselves for the profession of early childhood education teacher in the field of psychological and pedagogical assistance at the university is not effective. The conditions of this state of affairs are various, so these issues should be considered in a broader context than before.

Background. Lyme disease (LD ) is the most frequent tick-borne human disease in the world. In patients with nonspecific or late-onset symptoms, LD is still a challenge for family physicians (FPs). Some studies which have been published on LD management by FPs revealed a deviation from the guideline recommendations and clinical practice. Objectives. The aim of this study was to determine the common practice of FPs in the treatment of LD and whether these practices align with the guideline recommendations. Material and methods. The study consisted of a survey of 54 FPs, including 46 women and 8 men at a mean age of 39.4 ± 10 years. An anonymous online questionnaire was used. The questionnaire was based on the guidelines for diagnosing and treating LD . Results. Most of the respondents work in a city (63%) or a small town (22.2%). 96.3% of them practice in primary care. 70.4% of the FPs had experienced a tick bite and 3.7% of them developed LD . 22.2% reported Lyme disease in their family. All of the respondents indicated erythema migrans (EM) as a characteristic symptom of LD , but only 3.7% of them reported that they would send their patients for serological testing. 18.5% of FPs considered seropositivity to be an indication for prescribing antibiotics. 85.2% of FPs correctly classified whether other than EM signs and symptoms were related to LD . 85.2% of the respondents said they would report LD to the Polish Food Safety and Inspection Service. Conclusions. Our study did not reveal a major deviation from the guideline recommendations. We found some FP misinterpretation, such as serology testing or antibiotherapy for asymptomatic patients. FPs should be trained at the clinical and epidemiological level. Up-to-date guidelines should be provided to FPs in order to limit inappropriate practices.

The study aimed to investigate the relationships between intra-organizational knowledge sharing and the absorptive capacity of a company - under conditions of two mediators: job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Identifying the relationships between these variables contributes to the development of the literature in the field of strategic management concerning the mechanisms creating the absorptive capacity of the company. Absorptive capacity is understood as the ability to acquire, assimilate, transform, and exploit useful external knowledge. The object of study was a company specializing in the production of high-quality insulating glass and special glass - one of the leading producers in this line of business in Poland. To test the hypotheses, the author performed the regression analysis, which revealed a direct relationship between the process of knowledge sharing and absorptive capacity. Above all, the results achieved show that intra-organizational knowledge absorption and transmission stimulates an increase in job satisfaction, which in turn leads to an increase in organizational commitment. Both changes result in a perceptible increase in the absorptive capacity of the examined company. The observed double-mediating effect constitutes the added value of the above investigations.

The main aim realized in this article is to present Husserl’s phenomenology as an indefinite work of philosophizing. This interpretation of classic phenomenology is a result of analyses connected with dogmatic and critical in Husserl’s philosophy. Considering the evolution of the Husserl’s thought, phenomenology can be understood as a never fully realized project, outlining a horizon of classic philosophical problems: epistemologic, metaphysical and ethical. Openness and criticism that characterize Husserl’s philosophy are connected with inner dynamism and the process of overestimating dogmatic and critical motives. In the light of the interpretation of phenomenology presented in the paper, Husserl’s project of philosophy can be taken as a never fully realized process of philosophizing.
