Opis:
The article discusses the changes in models of women’s role including the period of actual socialism and new socio-systematic reality after 1989. The main aim is to prove that discrimination of women in the public sphere is generated by cultural factors, among which the traditional model appears to be the most powerful. The author presents the evolution of said model as a continuum constructed specifically for this very purpose. The continuum takes the form of a trichotomy: traditional model – modernized model – contemporary model. By extracting features most typical for each of the models mentioned she attempts to show that they coexist and form diverse configurations and their common feature is a slow departure from tradition limiting women’s activity to private sphere and approach in the direction of modernity and full participation in public sphere. Professional activisation, civil activity and participation in politics become the examples of modernity.

Background. Combined oral contraceptive pills containing ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel are the most common contraceptives that are used by women of the reproductive age. Moreover, sexual function is linked to sexual hormones. Objectives. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sexual function of hormonal contraceptive (OCP) and non-hormonal contraceptive (traditional or withdrawal) methods in Iranian reproductive-age women referred to healthcare centers. Material and methods. This was a cross-sectional study on 206 married women of the reproductive age (18–45). Ninety-six women used OCP to prevent pregnancy, and 110 women did not use any contraceptives, instead using a traditional (withdrawal) method for at least 6 months before the study. Data on sexual function was collected via the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire. The independent t-test was used for statistical purposes. Results. The results showed that there were no significant differences in all domains of sexual function in the two groups, except in the area of sexual arousal (3.87 in OCP users and 4.14 in withdrawal user methods) (p < 0.05). There was an association between the arousal domain and oral contraceptive use, but there was no relation between OCP and other domains of sexual function. Conclusions. The combined oral and withdrawal contraceptive methods have no impact on sexual function, except in the area of sexual arousal.

Opis:
Gender construction in Nigeria is culturally constructed, gender processes are inculcated through the family, school, religion, peer group etc, as such women are relegated on their line of actions culturally. Thus, gender inequality has gained momentum. However, in the Pentecostal doctrines and dogma women position have change drastically giving credence to equal partnership with the men. Hence, this research aims at showing that Pentecostalism adapting itself as a Christian denomination that saturate itself as a possible gospel, involved in the rejuvenation of humanity have tendencies towards the appreciation and equivalent status women enjoys with the men counterpart, dominantly recognizing the important role women can play in the church and the society, as such priding the feminine role as a necessary complement to the masculine role. As such, women are allowed to own their parishes, women ministry, women pastorate, women counselors, women wing, and side by side leadership role with men etc. This serves as advocacy mechanism by Pentecostal ministry to reconstruct the cultural/traditional construct of gender in Nigeria.

The article compares two groups of ‘women’s’ drama, one written during the inter-war period, the other after the changes of 1989. On the one hand, the analysis presents the image of family emerging in these two groups of plays from a feminist perspective. On the other hand, the article raises the question of their form, since it so strongly influences the reception of these works. A comparison of plays written after 1989 with those created dur-ing the inter¬ war period demonstrates the historical continuity of family issues that have not been solved till present day. Concurrently, in terms of form, it shows that combining tradi-tional elements with innovative ones leads to the greatest dramatic effectiveness.

Their roles are not limited to granting benefits – an activity most often attributed to social workers in Poland – they consist of educating, overcoming taboos, initiating actions aimed at improving the functioning of individuals, groups and communities, and building and integrating them. The text is based on a review of selected presentations and posters presented during the Work, Education and Social Development Conference organized in Dublin in July 2018.

Canada is often put forward as an example of forward thinking on inclusiveness and gender balance. However, for the last 30 years, while gender diversity progress has been made within Canadian government agencies, commissions and boards (ABCs), the private sector continues to lag behind, stuck trying to break through the barrier of 18–22% females on Boards. This occurs while mounting empirical evidence clearly indicates that it is not just the right thing to do, it is the smart thing to do. This paper looks at where progressive government change has generated results and potential avenues necessary to make gender equality a reality within both the government and private sector beyond 2018. The author reviews the methods used by the Canadian government to achieve gender parity, ending with some insights on how the private sector could implement gender parity without the use of quotas.

This article analyses and attempts to systematize barriers that may block the undertaking and effective performance of entrepreneurial tasks by women with disabilities. It has been noticed that these obstacles are of diverse nature . The second issue is the challenges faced by women with disabilities while taking a decision on starting their own business and in the course of running their own businesses. This part of the article also proposes some solutions that can help meet multiple tasks. Finally, based on the case study method, there are presented examples of entrepreneurl women with disabilities who have been successful and can be an example and inspiration for other women with similar problems. In the end, the conclusions are drawn, and it is recommended to deepen studies on the problem both in the scientific and institutional field, as in Poland this topic is little known and rarely undertaken. There is a lack of both research and scientific description of this subject.

Opis:
In this article I will try to articulate that gender equality means also changing the patriarchal system. In my opinion, family changes in the last decades contributed to defense and development of women’s rights. Family changes and family varies from one society to the other. Anywhere and at any time in the history of human societies, kinship systems and family systems have evolved and continue to do so. But European societies today are torn between two contradictory trends, on the one hand we can observe the extension of social relationship in the case of blended families, and on the other hand the continuing reference to a genealogical, therefore biological relationship, because adoption in Europe and the United States still refers to the model of a fictitious family lineage. It displaces real family lineage of birth parents which legally disappear.

The first part of the article is focused on the history of social work (in terms of women's contribution to the development of this discipline) and feminism (including various trends of feminism). Then, the features of feminist social work are discussed. The article is only an introduction to the issue of feminist social work and does not cover all the related topics.

Opis:
Current statistics indicate that about two in fifty cases of rape are reported in Nigeria, and the percentage of reported cases has continued to reduce over the years in spite of the observed consistent increase in the number of rape incidents. The burden of rape is more on women who do not have power balance with men to propagate or prosecute a majority of cases. The long silence of women due to the lack of support from male folk shows some kind of gender politics behind rape. Hence, the stigma associated with rape continues to discourage women from reporting rape cases. However, this issue has been continuously explored in many Nigerian (Nollywood) films. But to what extent have Nollywood films contributed to the mobilization of the Nigerian populace toward reducing incidences of rape in Nigeria? Using the framing theory of the media, this article examined two Nigerian films, Tango with Me (dir. Mahmood Ali-Balogun, 2012) and Code of Silence (dir. Emem Isong, 2015), which were purposively selected due to their storylines on rape. The movies were content analysed to highlight the role that men and women play, and the views of society towards rape incidences. The study also examined the gender roles vis-à-vis the stigma and trauma experiences of the victims (mainly the women) and the punishment meted out to the perpetrators of rape. Findings indicated that there is a code of silence; consequently, rape victims (mainly women) are not encouraged to speak out, for fear of losing their mental wellbeing and social status in society. The role of women in rape is passive and submissive to the dictates of a society which valorises patriarchy while the role of men shows aggressive and unrepentant behaviour, which society hardly punishes. The conclusion reached is that Nollywood content producers should help to raise the level of Nigerians’ awareness through their productions to make rape victims see the need to promptly report rape incidents, so that offenders can be punished and deterrents can begin to emerge.
