Opis:
The article describes two television channels: a general one (TVN) and its thematic variation (TVN Style) in the context of transformations observed in the genological and discursive character of television itself. Analysis of the programme schedules of both TV channels reveals a tendency to create specific genres, it distinguishes certain types of speech that appear in both channels and presents the style of some magazines. Such presentation leads to certain conclusions on the essence of thematic television and the task it is to fulfil.

The paper discusses the news on Polish TV channels. The author argues that the process of selection of information and their aesthetics are governed by laws similar to those that govern every other commodity on the trade market. Together with information, a viewer is sold a full package of ideas, a certain attitude to the world, whose essence is consumerism. An important part of the text provides a detailed analysis of one edition of the evening news station TVN24, which supplied arguments in favour of the thesis presented.

The text is focused on the characteristics of news in daily TV programmes, such as the news or broadcasts on round-the-clock television (e.g. TVN 24). The author proposes a definition of news and tries to approach its intrinsic features in Polish conditions, illustrating the discussion with examples. A full description of news (considering such problems as content and the most important characteristics) makes it possible to systematize an event and analyse news in the Polish mass media.

Television Theatre is a specific genre that is a characteristic unique to Polish media. It began with the creation of TV. In the beginning it aimed only at transferring traditional theatrical shows into a new medium. It became very popular with live transmissions of theatrical shows from TV studios. Later it adopted new technical and staging possibilities. It has evolved over the years, creating different styles and tendencies, due to the development of television itself and the achievements of the theoreticians as well as people involved in theatrical productions. Lately it has also turned to the Internet and because of that a mass audience has gained access to a high art form.

Opis:
This article presents television news as a rhetorical act. Television news is understood as an account of an event usually comprising of a short introduction and a few minutes of film footage (sometimes referred to as the editorial), created as a result of the work of reporters, broadcast on television, usually as one of the elements in the structure of a news magazine, but also as an element of the programme blocks of news television channels. Television news functions in the media as one of the elements of the strategic actions of media broadcasters, focused on specific purposes, including image-building and political and economic goals. News is created as a response to specific events, it fulfils the need for information, but also serves the creation of a certain image of the world, focusing attention on certain aspects of reality, evaluating it, persuading viewers of the importance or unimportance of certain events. It plays an informative, creative, conceptual, stimulating, evaluative and ultimately aesthetic role. In order to achieve these objectives it is appropriately constructed, taking into account the characteristics and needs of the recipient and the ethos of the broadcaster. In this sense, it is therefore a “rhetorical” act – intentional, deliberate, constituting a response to a specific situation (it is historically, socially and politically conditioned) and addressed to specific recipients.

In this article the texts of television commentaries from sports events are analysed. Sports competition is only a pretext and pre¬ text for a linguist. However, these two elements are semantically and chronologically related. The competition must appear first, so that the commentary can be created – a reportage, an interview with a sportsman or an informative description. A linguist is interested in a number of questions; which genre does the media presenter use to describe the sports event in his medium, what is characteristic for these models, what is characteristic for a presenter himself and his discursive perspective? The author of the article consolidates the knowledge gained in the past and uses the tools of textology, genology and discourse analysis in her research on the subject.

We depict practices of Polish audiences in communist Poland and the transition of these practices after the fall of communism. In Eastern Europe, digital distribution of video content has been built on semi-peripheral culture of VHS tapes copying and sharing. Although the unique Polish 20th century historical trajectory contains the experience of being excluded from Western popular culture, the first decade of 21st century brought unlimited digital access to audiovisual content. Peer re-production, a non-creative mode of participation increased. Our article provides new historical data illustrating this specificity both in terms of historical experience and globalizing technological progress.

The paper deals with the problem of the limits of the television created worlds which determine cultural identities of blurred cultural and medial borderlines. The concept of a border in cultural-and-medial space is seen in this paper as a communicational, negotiable game. What I offer here is a review of the ways television viewers can be able to trespass the television-set limits, how they can create virtual communities and cultural identities. My perspective is basically Polish, based on analyses of Polish communication practices.

The object of consideration in this article are TV series present on the Polish media market, produced since the 1990s until today. The series are both American and Polish. In this article they are considered as symbolic communities. I scrutinize the characters presented in each of the series to demonstrate that they impersonate television myths belonging to a wider symbolic process of creating television mythologies. By conceiving series’ characters as symbolic constructions I attempt to answer the question, what those popular series myths tell us and what kind of communities emerge around them.

Opis:
Sharply dressed, smooth, and sporty—these are probably among the first attributes associated with the Russian president Vladimir Putin. This image is promoted by television which still remains a powerful medium in Russia. While the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in March 2014 initially led to an increase in the popularity of Putin, his approval rating has significantly fallen since the signing of pension reforms in autumn 2018. This could explain why in September 2018 a new talk show called Moskva.Kreml’.Putin, which offers a synopsis of Putin’s working week, began its broadcast. By analyzing the „new“ image of Putin portrayed in this show and comparing it with his visual presentation in the news program Vremia and the annual talk Priamaia Linia s Vladimirom Putinym, the following paper examines the visual portrayal of Putin transmitted on television. By focusing on the visual, the analysis reveals that the president’s image, and the attributes assigned to him, are established and communicated mostly via the content and arrangement of (moving) pictures. Thus, the study suggests that visual communication on television significantly shapes and influences the perception of the Russian president. This work therefore contributes to a better understanding of television in general and of mass media communication in Russia in particular.

This article examines the current trends in the development and use of computer technology in special education, as well as provides the basic characteristics of the classification of TME. Technical meansoccupy a special positionin the system of education, as their use increases the effectiveness of education. The article states that teaching geography is impossible without the use of visual aids, as most of the objects and natural phenomena presented in the school course can not be observed in nature, and, in this sense, the study of geography requires students to have an advanced imagination and distraction techniques . The use of computer technologies in teaching geography to children with hearing impairment is difficult due to the lack of specially designed electronic aids, particularly taking into account the age and mental development of children in this category and guidelines for working with modern technical means of education. Using TME in a special (remedial) school is of great importance for the overall development of students with reduced motivation to learn. It should be noted that, over time, a number of technical means of educationin special remedial schools is becoming less relevantand is being replaced by modern technical devices, computer technology, for which the methods of operation are not well developedat the moment. The use of technical means opens up new opportunities for extra-curricular and leisure activities of environmental study nature with hearing-impaired students. The intensive nature of introducing computer technology in the educational process of remedial schools and the lack of special modern technical means of teaching geography to children with hearing impairmentare indicative of the need to establish the scientific concept of developing methodological support of technical means of education. The authors highlight the significant role of TME in the formation of knowledge on geographic objects and phenomena in students with hearing impairment.

Opis:
This article offers an analysis of the following TV series: Six Feet Under, House M.D., Dexter, Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Fargo, Better Call Saul. These 21st century productions are known as “new generation TV series”, “neo TV series” or “post soaps”. This genre, even though it has originated from older television forms, in most cases has now very little in common with them. For my research I used the discourse-historical approach in the critical discourse analysis. The main aim of the analysis was to describe discourse strategies which are most commonly used to present the condition of a contemporary man and society. The analysis led to several conclusions. Discourse strategies which are most vivid in post soaps concern ethical relativism. Their creators engage in a play with the audience – by showing the dilemmas of their (anti-)heroes they force the viewers to reflect on their moral choices. Post soaps show men with their vices and stress how fragile is their mental structure. Unlike traditional TV series which were axiologically “safe”, post soaps could be described as “wishy-washy” or “unsafe” in this respect. The picture of human condition drawn in post soaps is full of pessimism and even though it is only partially true, it resembles postmodern reality much more than the one presented in traditional television series. As far as producers and broadcasters are concerned, still the most important criteria that allow to evaluate the success of a production are audience ratings and economic balance. New generation television series, however, prove that this genre does not have to be cliched, unambitious, full of banal didacticism or to avoid sensitive social issues to earn the recognition in the eyes of both ordinary viewers and experts.
