Without prejudice to numerous institutions organized in the best possible way, nothing affect interpersonal relations as much as individual, empathic and intimate contact with other human being does. The greatest help in case of any challenge is the support of another person followed by an institution. The similar thesis was put forward but A. Zurek who claimed that people comprise the most important link in the process or rehabilitation, both those who provide care and those who receive it. When people face the fact of disability so called first circle of support seems to play a major role in dealing with the experience. Its purpose is to provide specific type of support aimed at creating measures to overcome negative consequences of the disability. Social support includes care, trust, respect (emotional support), expressing acceptance, encouragement and understanding. The purpose of this article is to show the importance of human assistance as a crucial component of social and proffessional rehabilitation of people with disabilities.

In light of the "rehabilitation crisis," Polish society expresses the need to introduce more severe penalties. The results of surveys and public opinion pools clearly show that the Poles demand heavier sanctions. Does a potential threat of punishment provide an effective deterrent against committing crimes? This paper discusses the problem of rational thinking of property criminals. The study conducted among prisoners allows us to argue that the perpetrator at the stage of decision making is not acutely aware of the possible consequences of committing a crime. The obtained results would enable us to launch a program facilitating prevention and rehabilitation, which could lead to a decrease in the rate of property crimes.

One of the forms of rehabilitation is social work. Activities for the benefit of other people not only allows for the formation of pro-social attitudes, but also enhances one’s sense of worth and gives meaning to one’s life. Of particular importance in the context of crystallization of civil society is voluntary work. Although widely applied in Poland for many years now, voluntary work has gained its contemporary meaning after 1989 and since then has been implemented mostly, but not exclusively, in the third sector. These days, the major Polish cities form Regional Volunteer Centers that encourage activities for other people on many levels. Voluntary work is regulated by law and moral standards, which define the range and forms of this type of activity.

Choć autyzm rozpoznawany jest w Polsce od około 30 lat, to jednak nie zostały przygotowane rozwiązania systemowe dla dorosłych osób autystycznych po ukończeniu edukacji szkolnej. Liczne raporty przywołane w tekście świadczą o tym, że sytuacja tej grupy jest trudna. Dlatego dużą rolę odgrywają organizacje pozarządowe, dzięki którym dorosłe osoby autystyczne mają szansę na rehabilitację społeczną i zawodową.
Although autism has been diagnosed in Poland for about 30 years, no systemic solutions for autism in adults who have completed school education have been developed so far. Numerous reports cited in the text bear witness to autistic adults’ difficult situation. That is why NGOs play a large role as they provide autistic adults with a chance of social and vocational rehabilitation.

The principal task of the social rehabilitation process, which is based on creative social rehabilitation, is to obtain relatively permanent consequences in the personality of the juvenile, his social functioning, creating the parameters of his identity, and the resulting life and social roles. A developing identity of juveniles is a simple way of thinking about oneself, one’s life priorities. It means that young people behave like they think. The process of social rehabilitation takes place in a specific environment of the institution where one can find the objects and the facts, as well as a lot of interaction between them. There is no doubt that among the factors which have a real impact on social rehabilitation the greatest importance is given to interpersonal relations. The space and the place are essential issues in this process. The space of contacts of two personalities – the youth and the teacher – is a plane on which the traces of changes of identity parameters of both interaction partners are imprinted. The place is created for people and by people; it activates the potential of youth.

The article is an analysis of the results of the studies conducted in a group of socially maladjusted youth in whose case the family court applied educational measures, i.e. placed them in a Youth Educational Centre. The aim of the study was to find out the correlations between self-esteem, personality traits of maladjusted adolescents, and the environmental determinants (support factors and limiting factors). A total of 481 juveniles staying in Youth Educational Centres (YEC) participated in the study. The analysis showed that in the model the significant predictors of self-esteem were neuroticism, extraversion, conscientiousness and negative relations at school. The obtained research results are to be used in designing methodological solutions in order to support social rehabilitation and education activities carried out both in an open environment and in social rehabilitation facilities.

The article is a summary of the report prepared by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights under the "Children Rights Behind Bars 2.0" project. The authors - based on the analysis of information taken on the basis of access to public information, the conclusions from the report of the Supreme Audit Office [pl. Najwyższa Izba Kontroli] and 8 interviews and focus groups with persons working in the system of juvenile social rehabilitation and foster care - indicate doubts related to the functioning of solutions supporting the reintegration of pupils of social rehabilitation institutions. Among the observed problems, they identify a multitude of entities responsible for the functioning of the system, lack of coordination of activities, lack of tools to verify the effectiveness of social rehabilitation work, as well as numerous formal criteria limiting the availability of reintegration services.
Artykuł stanowi skrót raportu opracowanego przez Helsińską Fundację Praw Człowieka w ramach projektu „Children Rights Behind Bars 2.0”. Autorzy, opierając się na analizie informacji zaczerpniętych w trybie dostępu do informacji publicznej, wnioskach z raportu Najwyższej Izby Kontroli oraz 8 wywiadach i grupach fokusowych z osobami pracującymi w systemie resocjalizacji nieletnich oraz pieczy zastępczej, wskazują na wątpliwości związane funkcjonowaniem rozwiązań wspierających reintegrację wychowanków placówek resocjalizacyjnych. Wśród obserwowanych problemów identyfikują m.in. wielość podmiotów odpowiedzialnych za funkcjonowanie systemu, brak koordynacji działań, narzędzi do weryfikacji skuteczności pracy resocjalizacyjnej, jak również liczne kryteria formalne ograniczające dostępność świadczeń reintegracyjnych.

The aim of this paper is to present the results of the research on the way of understanding the meaning of parenthood/fatherhood from the perspective of prisoners. The research group has been formed with ten adult men who are under sentences in chosen penitentiary. The main goal of this research is to find the answer for the following questions: How do the prisoners identify the father’s role in their life? How do they understand their fatherhood? The decision to use an individual interview was influenced by the nature of the research and the small research sample. The attachment theory of John Bowlby (1969) and the concept of criminal thinking style by Glen David Walters (1990) – are the main theoretical assumptions of the presented article. The imprisoned men make not enough efforts to build the positive and effective relationship with their children and families. The findings also show that for the individuals included within this study imprisonment had both positive and negative effects on how they identified as parents and consequently on the relationships they were able to maintain with their children. Most of the respondents identify themselves as “good fathers”, they do not see any problems in their behavior and decisions which provide them committing different crimes. The respondents find the resources of their problems in the social environment. They completely are not able to recognise the sources of their problems in their personalities. The second theoretical issue mentioned in this paper is connected with the attachment theory. It explains how the parent–child relationship emerges and influences subsequent development. The attachment relationship acts as a prototype for all future social relationships so disrupting it can have severe consequences. The respondents cannot build emotional relationships with their children because they experienced intense distress during their childhood.

People of present times are facing a technological revolution, resulting from the intensive development of sciences, which forces rapid changes in the surroundings. In case of people with sight dysfunctions, development of new technologies creates some independence in gathering information, which was impossible before, and makes their participation in social life even more complete. It is an opportunity to avoid a disability or to reduce its consequences in a significant way. The goal of the presentation is to show the latest scientific achievements related to education, diagnosis and rehabilitation of people with sight dysfunctions.

In the light of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland the citizen has the right to health care. This also applies to elderly people in a nursing home (DPS). The deepening of indigestion, the coexistence of many diseases, their chronicity and the level of complications trigger the increase in demand for DPS for systematic, 24-hour geriatric medical care (medical care, nursing and rehabilitation services). Realizing the health needs of elderly people in DPS by health care providers is a source of controversy, hence the need for legislative changes to shift the burden of health financing in DPS to the Polish National Health Fund (NFZ).

The paper reflects on the results of a comparative analysis conducted in two collaborating youth detention centres: Jugendhilfezentrum Leinerstift in Grossefehn, Germany and the Racibórz Youth Detention Centre in Poland. To obtain research data, the authors visited the two detention centres. The collected data include: the beginning and the development of the 15-year cooperation between the two centres; the similarities and differences in the applied pedagogical methods; favourable changes in rehabilitative treatment during cooperation between the analysed centres; periodic exchanges of the Polish and German youth under rehabilitation; the participation of Polish and German teachers and scholars in conferences and trainings. The multiaspectual comparative analysis of the functioning of the Polish and German rehabilitation centres broadens our practical and theoretical knowledge of comparative pedagogy. The mutual contacts of the teachers and the youth facilitate the process of eliminating prejudices and promoting genuine friendship and tolerance.

System programowanego oddziaływania jest jednym z trzech systemów wykonywania kary pozbawienia wolności. Odbywają w nim karę m.in. nieletni. Jego istotą jest prowadzenie zindywidualizowanych oddziaływań resocjalizacyjnych na osadzonych przy uwzględnieniu ich jednostkowych potrzeb, deficytów i możliwości. Niestety obecny model tego systemu opiera się głównie na działaniach schematycznych, które nie przybliżają człowieka do życia na wolności zgodnego z regułami społecznymi
The system of programmed interactions is one of the three systems of serving a sentence of imprisonment. It applies to various condemned persons, including minors. Its essence is to provide the imprisoned with personalized rehabilitation measures taking into account their individual needs, deficits and capabilities. Unfortunately, current model of this system is based mainly on schematic measures that do not bring an inmate’s real behaviour closer to attitudes and abilities which would allow him to function according to social norms.

W drugiej zaś opisano indywidualny przypadek przebiegu edukacji osoby z postępującą słabowzrocznością na tle przemian polityczno-społecznych, jakie miały miejsce w Polsce w ostatnich czterech dekadach.
The text consists of two parts: the first part contains a theoretical analysis of the impact that congenital progressive condition has on the life of an individual, with particular emphasis on such areas as education and social functioning; in the second part a case study is presented illustrating the education process of an individual with progressing low vision, seen against the background of political and social changes which occurred in Poland over the last forty years.

Issues of the social maladjustment of juveniles are being discussed in various interdisciplinary publications. It shows that the problem is important and effective methods of influences towards juveniles are still being sought. Dissertations recommended in the article include personality, which here is settled in the paradigm of cognitive psychology, where the picking up, selection and the use of information play a crucial role in personality. Constructing one’s own experiences when growing up is possible thanks to the fact that one has a knowledge which results mainly from connecting personal experiences. It is necessary to identify during the diagnostic process such abilities of juveniles which can be their main sources of change. Strong points and abilities of juveniles are a key to the improvement in their functioning in the society.
