Opis:
This article deals with the co-operation of the Unit of Theory of Aesthetic Education with the International Society for Education through Art (INSEA) in historical and contemporary perspectives. It also reflects upon the role of art education in contemporary educational movement. The reflection is based on the analysis of contemporary trends in this field, including the reports from selected INSEA congresses. The collected material allows us to present important theoretical contexts of art education and to explore practical solutions in this area of education. The remarks refer to more than fifty years of cooperation of the Department of Theory of Aesthetic Education with INSEA and concern various forms of cooperation of an international organisation with European institutions.

Opis:
Nowadays, young people, due to, inter alia, an increase in migration movements on a global scale, more and more often encounter people from other cultures. Therefore, it seems important to prepare them for living in a culturally diverse environment, especially that the ability to function in multicultural environment is considered one of the most important social skills in the 21st century. For that reason, schools should implement activities in the fi eld of intercultural education that will sensitize young people to cultural diversity and will contribute to developing their attitudes of openness and respect for what is different.

Opis:
After 2016, in Polish literature for children, there appeared a few significant books presenting childhood marked by the most current trauma, namely the experience of refugees. Reading these novels prompted me to ask important questions that I am trying to answer in this paper: How and for what purpose, should we discuss the subject of war trauma with children? How is refugee childhood presented in the analysed literature? How the analysed literature talks about the hardships of war exile refugee families and the “rebuilding” of the house and the whole world by them? I conducted an analysis and interpretation of books based on the assumptions of the concept of humanistic hermeneutics. Using the assumptions of intercultural education simultaneously, I paid attention to the sensitising potential of the analysed literature (development of empathy in the youngest, awakening of conscience, altruistic attitude, provoking discussion on how much we are attentive to the other person).

Opis:
Memorial sites pedagogy emphasizes the importance of historical-political education which, in turn, assumes that students, for example, should visit the museums of former Nazi concentration camps. It combines the acquisition of historical knowledge of WW II with self-development and the teaching of socially desirable attitudes, mostly by means of methods subsumed under non-formal education. With the help of memorial sites pedagogy, students can learn how to be tolerant and how to foster anti-discrimination acts. The method also offers a possibility to reinforce the pro-democratic attitudes.

gap between social needs and multicultural teacher training.
Opis:
A contemporary teacher should represent a high level of consciousness about multicultural challenges involved in senses and meanings, social priorities, political and pedagogical ideas. At present, vocational preparation of disciples of education and their elder colleagues to cope with multicultural problems through intercultural education is weak or doesn’t exist at all. Multicultural courses or workshops that sometimes appear among educational propositions of professional development are rather valuable announcements of further, hopefully compulsory, activities. Today we pose questions about mission, or raison d’etre of our universities. We want to define educational aims and objectives, the range of university freedom or its dependence on business and economy. Neoliberal values, economical language, profits and losses, effectiveness, product and success, and finally business categories of thinking and acting (treating people) profoundly change university communities. Thus traditional university values are dragged out by tough rules of market game. In spite of that, students of pedagogical faculties should get special, deepened and humanistic training. It raises costs of education, but is the best investment for the future. One of the pedagogical areas which should play an important role in that process, is didactics. Organizational forms of education and learning-and-teaching methods are important elements of that pedagogical sub-discipline. The process of updating teachers’ training goes hand in hand with multicultural challenges. New methods, strategies, and shorter techniques, should be applied to correct present situation. That may entail some structural changes inside university’s order. Organizational forms, being influenced by new methods (like Storyline Method and Project Method) and approaches responding to new social problems (developing common abilities to live in multicultural societies) may get a new shape. Teachers need to feel free in applying various forms and methods to reach, in most natural ways for their pupils from different backgrounds, educational aims – aims which will develop each individual personality due to global and humanistic priorities.

This paper represents a socio-political process synthesis concerning integration in the US, as one of the first countries to experiment multicultural practices and realize a multiethnic consciousness, for overcoming the social discrimination. It explains how, in more than a century of social and political activism, has almost been impossible to eradicate completely the racism stronghold, creating a civic consciousness. At this point, can we think about racism phenomenon as a biological matter? Actually, as explained by R. Siebert (Siebert, 2001), the racism has grown up in the collective imaginary as something that belongs to the humans naturally. It is just a historical process of Modernity, appeared in the west territories. The US, as this paper highlights, are an example of how the racism is connected to the historical events.
