Podstawowym celem artykułu jest ukazanie zmian funkcji turystycznej w rejonach województwa śląskiego, w których przez lata rozwijał się przemysł, na tle rejonów od lat uchodzących za turystyczne. By osiągnąć zamierzony cel scharakteryzowano pojęcie funkcji turystycznej oraz wskazano jej podstawowe mierniki, jak również scharakteryzowano poszczególne rejony turystyczne województwa śląskiego. Analiza danych z lat 2004 i 2012 pozwoliła zrealizować cel i wskazać rejony, w których funkcja turystyczna rozwinęła się najbardziej.
The main aim of this paper is to present changes of tourism function’s levels in tourism regions of Silesian Voivodeship where heavy industry had been developing for many years in comparison with regions which are usually considered as tourist orientated. To achieve this aim the tourism function concept was characterized, main indicators of tourist function and tourist regions of Silesian Voivodeship (distincted in regional strategic documents) were presented. Analysis of the data from 2004 and 2012 allow author to identify regions where mentioned changes were the most intensive.

Tourist function of Licheń Stary – from local place of religious cult to new tourist-sacred spaceThe tourism function development is shaped by many factors, mostly of endogenic character. Village of Licheń Stary is the example of functional transformation – from rural village to a pilgrimage centre. The history of Licheń Stary as the pilgrimage centre began in 1850, when the Virgin Mary’s revelations in Grąbliński Forest took place. Now, about 1.5 million pilgrims and tourists arrive yearly to the Licheń sanctuary, thus village is one of the largest sanctuaries in Poland. The largest church in Poland and surrounding space are unique. More and more people arrive to Licheń sanctuary not only to pray and experience God, but also to see this peculiar object, to rest or spend the leisure time with family. So, their visits to Licheń are not caused only by religious motivations. Thus, religious function of Licheń sanctuary is mixed with the tourist one. Needs of pilgrims and tourists became the factor of tourist facilities development. There are three churches, many smaller chapels and monuments, via dolorosa, and tourist facilities, like : accommodation, catering, car parkings and souvenir shops. It is the space where the sacrum and profanum is mixed.

Opis:
The tourist function is frequently mentioned as one of those functions which are expected to contribute to the diversification of the local economy and multifunctional development of rural areas. However, the process of strengthening the tourist potential of the countryside faces numerous obstacles and the accumulation of various functions, many a time with a disagreeable character, significantly increases the risk of occurrence of socio-spatial conflicts. The aim of this work is to define the relationship between three structural conditions important for the development of the tourist function: tourist attractiveness, the structure of revenues and expenditures of gminas (communes) in terms of tourism and environmental protection as well as the placement of tourist functional areas defined in the Development Strategy of Lodz Region 2020. In order to fulfil this aim, problematic areas have been identified on the basis of conducted analyses, i.e. the areas in which the tourist function is high, yet there is a real or potential risk of socio-spatial conflict. Using the method of case studies, the authors have made an attempt at defining tourism in the local development policy of selected rural areas from Lodz Region and the risk of occurrence of socio-spatial conflicts, mainly functional in their character.

Funkcja uzdrowiskowa jest jedną z zasadniczych funkcji turystycznych obszaru. Integruje ona zarówno działalność turystyczną z leczniczą, jak i cele społeczne i ekonomiczne. Zasadniczym celem artykułu jest charakterystyka potencjału oraz działalności podmiotów zlokalizowanych na obszarze województwa świętokrzyskiego w zakresie turystyki uzdrowiskowej oraz lecznictwa uzdrowiskowego. Autor omawia zasadnicze cechy obu świętokrzyskich uzdrowisk (Busko-Zdrój oraz Solec-Zdrój) w relacji do pozostałego potencjału uzdrowiskowego Polski. Zastosowane w artykule porównania poparto pomiarem potencjału uzdrowiskowego z zastosowaniem wskaźników funkcji turystycznej i uzdrowiskowej. Wnioski zawarte w pracy dotyczące turystyki i zdrowia publicznego wskazują na dominację uzdrowiska Busko-Zdrój zarówno pod względem leczniczym, jak i administracyjnym nad uzdrowiskiem Solec-Zdrój. Jednakże oba uzdrowiska różnią się od siebie pod względem specjalizacji turystycznej, gdyż Busko-Zdrój ukierunkowuje swoją działalność na lecznictwo uzdrowiskowe, natomiast w uzdrowisku Solec-Zdrój przeważają przyjazdy turystyczne.
The spa is one of the essential functions of the tourist area. It integrates both the tourist activity, as well as social and economic objectives. The main aim of this article is to describe the potential and business entities located in the Kielce region in the field of health tourism and spa treatment. The author discusses the essential features of both spas of Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship (Busko Zdroj and Solec Zdrój) in relation to the remaining potential of the Polish spa. The conclusions reached in the work on public health, tourism and show the dominance of Busko Zdroj, both in terms of healing, as well as the spa administrative. However, both the spa differ in terms of tourism specialization, as Busko Zdroj spa directs its activities on healthcare spa, while the spa Solec Zdroj prevail tourist arrivals.

Część empiryczna przedstawia wyniki badań z zakresu poziomu wykorzystania turystycznego Doliny Narwi przez mieszkańców metropolii Białymstoku. Omówione zostały główne atrakcje determinujące tworzenie przestrzeni turystycznej, funkcje turystyczne pełnione przez przestrzeń turystyczną Doliny Narwi na rzecz turystów oraz bariery hamujące rozwój funkcji turystycznej.
The articles discusses the issue of tourist space. The first part reviews the literature, presents the factors and processes which determine creating tourism space. The empirical part, carried out on the example of the Narew River Valley, identifies the intensity of tourist movement in the lower part of the Narew River Valley by the residents of the metropolitan Bialystok, depicts the main attractions determining creating tourism space as well as the functions that this space fulfils for tourists. Barriers and determinants have been presented. The article is supported with examples.

The tourism industry in Poland has experienced dramatic development at the beginning of the 21st c. Large cities have seen in-depth changes, both spatial and functional, from the impact of tourism. As one of Poland's most popular tourism centres, Kraków is undergoing a process of intensive tourism development. This traditional centre of domestic sightseeing is now changing into a multifunctional International tourist centre.

development strategies of municipalities located in the Sudetes. Material and methods. The study involved 44 Sudetes municipalities. The officially accepted strategies of municipality development and tourism development were analysed in the context of strategic and operational objectives, vision of the municipality and its mission, SWOT analysis, and key tasks. The authors collated the results with the development of the tourist function. Results and conclusions. The role of tourism is mentioned in most of the analysed documents owing to the attractive natural and cultural environment. Up to 89% of the studied municipalities involved tourism in SWOT analyses and 73% of them presented tourist attractions widely in their development strategies. However, the municipalities rarely employ their values to create advanced tourist products; these are included only in 25% of the documents. Unfortunately, they can be mostly classified as potential ones. The municipalities with a downward trend of tourism function show the smallest interest in tourism development. Others present different approaches to it.

The development of spas is based on their tourist function. The socio-economic transformations and reforms introduced in 1999, including the reform of the health service, have caused a visible regression of this function. Spas are presently in a critical condition and are looking to develop new forms of tourism using the existing tourist infrastructure

Artykuł stanowi próbę wykorzystania podstawowych wskaźników funkcji turystycznej (wskaźnik: Baretje’a-Deferta, Deferta, Schneidera, Charvata oraz gęstości bazy noclegowej) jako narzędzi w ocenie rozwoju turystycznego obszaru. Omówienie wskaźników i ich analiza, na podstawie przeprowadzonego badania, pozwoliły autorowi odnieść się krytycznie do zasadności ich wykorzystywania, wskazując na problemy z interpretacją wartości wskaźników oraz wiarygodności danych potrzebnych do ich wyliczeń.
The article is the attempt to use basic tourist function indexes (Baretje–Defert’s index, Charvat’s index, Schneider index, Defert’s index and the density of accomodation index) as an instruments in the evaluation of tourism area development. Discussion of the indicators and their analysis based on research, allowed the author to refer critically to the validity of their use, pointing to problems with interpretation of value the indicators and reliability of data for their calculations

Celem artykułu jest wyznaczenie syntetycznego wskaźnika pomiaru funkcji turystycznej obszarów na podstawie metody TOPSIS. Do jego konstrukcji wykorzystano wartości wskaźników odpowiednio zakodowane w pięciostopniowej skali wartości czterech wskaźników funkcji turystycznej: Deferta, Schneidera, Baretje’a-Deferta oraz gęstości bazy noclegowej. Zaproponowany wskaźnik zastosowano do oceny poziomu rozwoju funkcji turystycznej wybranych powiatów Polski, które w roku 2014 zajęły czołowe miejsca w rankingu GUS pod względem atrakcyjności turystycznej.
The aim of the article is to determine the synthetic indicator measuring the function of the tourist areas, based on TOPSIS method. For its construction were used appropriately coded values of the four indicators of tourist function: Defert, Schneider, Baretje-Defert and the density of accommodation. The proposed indicator was used to assess the level of development of the tourist function of selected of Polish districts which in 2014 occupied the top places in the ranking of GUS with respect of the tourist attractiveness.

Celem pracy była próba zdiagnozowania rozwoju funkcji turystycznej obszarów wielkopolskich parków krajobrazowych. Funkcja turystyczna obszaru to szeroko rozumiana działalność społeczno-ekonomiczna pełniona przez określony obszar (region lub miejscowość) i jego mieszkańców, skierowana na obsługę turystów przybyłych na wypoczynek3. Rozwój funkcji turystycznej określa się zwykle za pomocą mierników opartych na wielkości bazy noclegowej i ruchu turystycznego, wśród których najczęściej stosowanymi są wskaźniki: Baretje’a, Schneidera, Charvata i Deferta.
The aim of this paper is to analyse the development of tourist function of Greater Poland landscape parks areas. There are many factors which influence the level of this development, among them are the level of tourism infrastructure and the intensity of tourist traffic, which are of crucial meaning. In the present study six indicators were taken into consideration, which describe the level of tourist function development – the number of tourist accommodation establishments per 100 km2, the accommodation facilities density rate, and as well Baretje’a, Schneider, Charvat and Dekert indicators. A total of 45 communities were examined which are located on 13 Wielkopolska landscape parks. The results show a significant positive correlation among the indicators and the landscape parks territory share. The highest level of tourist function development was noted in communities connected with Powidz, Pszczew and Sieraków Landscape Parks.

Artykuł jest pracą przeglądową, prezentującą syntezę spojrzeń przedstawicieli różnych dziedzin naukowych na zmiany dokonujące się na obszarach wiejskich Polski głównie w ciągu ostatniego dziesięciolecia, a więc w czasie przynależności kraju do Unii Europejskiej. W pracy najpierw przedstawiono w świetle polskiej i zagranicznej literatury kwestię niejednoznacznego definiowania obszaru wiejskiego oraz wynikające z tego mocno zróżnicowane dystynktywne jego cechy. Następnie przeanalizowano zmiany społeczno-gospodarcze zachodzące na obszarach wiejskich Polski, ujęte w czterech wielkich procesach, takich jak: deruralizacja, dezagraryzacja, dualizacja rolnictwa i restratyfikacja wsi. Prześledzono czynniki różnicujące funkcje turystyczne obszarów wiejskich w skali kraju i regionów. Podkreślono, że waga i oddziaływanie tych czynników jest różne, a w wielu przypadkach związane nie tylko z przynależnością do Unii Europejskiej, ale także z globalizacją, które razem przyczyniają się do upowszechniania pragnień mieszkańców wsi i ujednolicania preferencji wypoczynkowych turystów.
The article is a presentation of different approaches taken by representatives of various sciences to the changes in the rural areas of Poland, which have mostly taken place over the last decade, i.e. the time of Poland’s membership in the European Union. First, in the light of Polish and foreign literature, the author presents inconclusive definitions of the rural area and the resulting discrepancies among its distinctive features. Next, she analyses the socio-economic changes taking place in the rural areas of Poland, part of four powerful processes: deruralization, deagrarization, dualization of agriculture and the restratification of the countryside. Further on, factors diversifying the national and regional scale tourist functions of rural areas are analysed. It has been pointed out that the importance and influence of these factors vary, and are often connected not only with membership in the European Union, but also with globalization, which jointly popularize the country inhabitants’ dreams and standardize tourists’ recreation preferences.

Opis:
Background. The main aim of the paper was to analyse the current situation of tourism development in the Sudety Mountains municipalities. This led the authors to establish the prospects of the future growth possibilities. Butler’s Tourism Area Life Cycle theory was applied. Material and methods. The main research method was based on statistical data of the Central Statistical Office of Poland, with reference to entities in the REGON register and newlybuilt tourism accommodation establishments. Results and conclusions. The results show that there are no municipalities at the exploration stage, and there are only two at the involvement stage. The most important tourist and spa resorts (Karpacz, Szklarska Poręba, Kudowa-Zdrój, Polanica-Zdrój) are at the maturity stage, which is the result of slowing dynamics of the tourist economy. Unfortunately, the majority of the analysed municipalities are on the decline.

The author analyzes the level of tourism development of communes in Silesia region and points best-developed tourist areas.
