The article discusses the anthology ...czterdzieści i cztery. Figury literackie. Nowy kanon (Warsaw 2016) dedicated to the literary figures of women who contributed to the formation of collective imagination. One of the great assets of the reviewed volume published byWomen Archive at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences is the modern methodology. The research tools from such field as feminist critique, gender and queer studies as well as postcolonial criticism do not obliterate historical context of the analyzed works but they offer the opportunities for fresh readings of literary figures and the previously neglected literary space. Consequently, the discussed anthology succeeds in redefining Polish literary canon.

In recent years, artistic projects combining a wide array of musical styles, such as jazz interpretations of classical music or orchestral arrangements of rock songs, have enjoyed considerable popularity. As their authors were focused mainly on sales profits, the artistic value of their works was often highly disputable. Nevertheless, some outstanding achievements in that field have also been made, among them reinterpretations of classical repertoire - Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Schumann, and, above all, Mahler - by American pianist Uri Caine. He recorded several CDs containing new versions of Mahler’s entire works or their excerpts. Sometimes Caine’s music moves far away from the originals, though such artistic experiments are always well-grounded and aesthetically convincing. Caine’s reinterpretations of Mahler have also some (auto)biographical overtones.

The protagonists created by the Canadian writer Margaret Atwood are characterized by a constant struggle for survival, searching for identity and the voice that was taken away from them for various reasons. One of such protagonists is Penelope, immortalized in history thanks to Homer and addicted to the story of a man – her husband Odysseus. The article aims to present Penelopiada not only as a reinterpretation of a myth but also as an interesting reading proposal for high school students, which can be presented as an interpretative context when discussing texts from antiquity.

The article briefly presents the history of the absorption of foreign proper names by the Polish language. The introduction outlines the key properties that differentiate proper names from common names. Then the three chief periods in the history of Polish are presented, along with their typical, dominant ways of absorbing proper names. These periods coincide with the periodization proposed by Z. Klemensiewicz (Old-Polish, Middle-Polish, New-Polish periods). The author discusses finally the main modes of absorbing proper names: phonetic-morphologic adaptation (e.g. Piotr, Agnieszka, Szymbark), adideation and reinterpretation (e.g. Bakchus – Beczkoś), translation (e.g. Felix – Szczęsny, Parva – Mała), transposition (e.g. Milano, Trier, Inez).

The article is an attempt to analyse the influence of Christ's resurrection for the reinterpretation of his activity by his disciples. In the first two sections biblical scenes are examined which demonstrate the initial misunderstanding of Jesus’ activity by his disciples and its reinterpretation after the resurrection. The third point focuses on the analysis of the verb “to remind” (gr. mimnos- komai), including its context. It demonstrates that this word does not only mean “recall the memory” of certain words and events, but their reinterpretation. The fourth point focuses on the role of the Paraclete, who helped (and even was necessary to) the disciples to make this reinterpretation of Jesus’ words and deeds, which initially they did not understand. At the end it has been noted that this after-resurrection reflection should be seen as an argument for the reality of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. The metamorphosis that has taken place not only in the thinking, but also in the behaviour of the disciples, shows how powerful this event was for them.

The authors discuss the possibilities of applying the law of proximity as one of the categories of gestalt psychology to describe the social communication. The first part considers the mutual determinants of sensory and cognitive processes, including the phenomenon of cognitive penetrability and the phenomenon of semantic priming. In the following parts, the authors show how the law of proximity is implemented in various types of discourses. In visual communication (especially in film and photography), the law of proximity is the basis of collage editing. The authors describe the principles by which semantic inference is made in such discourses. The law of proximity also significantly influences the processing of information in speech. In poetic texts, the compactness of the line sequence is based on this principle, i.e. what R. Jakobson defined as the transfer of equivalence from the selection axis to the combination axis. In artistic, journalistic or rhetorical texts, the proximity of words in the text contributes to the emergence of semantic implications, i.e. allusive meanings.

The article discusses the problems associated with the revitalization of urban space and giving it new spatial and aesthetic values. Revitalization, as the recovery process is part of the current activities related to the improvement of the living conditions of the inhabitants of modern cities and estates. Creation of renewed urban spaces on one hand, uses existing compositional and spatial qualities, builds readability and a new scale facilities, on the other hand it allows the introduction of modern materials, technology, detail and endowment, as a complement to these transformations.

The aim of the article A fairy-tale herstory. Postmodern strategies of reinterpretation by Angela Carter, Tanith Lee, and Emma Donoghue is to analyze selected postmodern fairy tales written by Angela Carter, Tanith Lee, and Emma Donoghue. The most important literary strategy applied by all three authors consists in presenting fairy tales from a new, female perspective. As a result, this strategy reveals “facts”, contexts, and meanings that have so far been unnoticed, ignored, or omitted in the original story, turning it into a fairy-tale “herstory”. Postmodern fairy tales by Carter, Lee, and Donoghue are revisionist stories that critically engage the “canonical” material, i.e. fairy-tale pre-texts. The authors question traditional social values as well as petrified cultural “norms”, rules, hierarchies, and images. At the same time, they often suggest a new order and new values. Consequently, the genre of fairy tale is given back to women—the social group so far discriminated, according to feminist discourse. By challenging the traditional socio-cultural context and constructing the new one, Carter, Lee, and Donoghue change the meaning of fairy tales. Therefore, classic fairy-tale stories become the subject of a postmodern, intertextual play.

Reinterpretacja Starego Testamentu w Nowym Testamencie jest oczywistością. Charakterystyczne jest jej kerygmatyczne wykorzystanie, zwłaszcza tekstów prorockich, charakteryzujących się rysem eschatologicznym. W ten sposób dokonuje się identyfikacja osoby Jezusa, oraz uzasadnienie jego przesłania. Reinterpretujące teksty koncentrują się ona na wskazywaniu, iż Jezus jest tym, o którym mówi Stary Testament. Jezus jest w nich widoczny jako egzegetyczny autorytet. Sposób Jego argumentacji wykazuje pewne podobieństwa do metody peszerowej, stosowanej w tekstach z Qumran. Można przypuścić, że ta judaistyczna metoda ma w Nowym Testamencie także cechy własne. Być może należałoby mówić o alternatywnej metodzie peszerowej w Nowym Testamencie.
The fact of reinterpreting the Old Testament writings in the New Testament is a matter of course. The use of those texts for kerygmatic purposes is especially characteristic, especially as regards prophetic texts having an eschatological character. Both the person of Jesus and His message were identified and substantiated in this way. Texts undertaking reinterpretation concentrate on pointing out that Jesus is the One heralded in the Old Testament. Jesus is also presented in them as an exegetical authority. His argumentation shows some similarities to the method used in the texts of Qumran. This Judaic method takes on its own characteristics in the New Testament. One should probably speak here of an alternative pesher method in the New Testament. It also seems, that one might speak here of a common reinterpreting spirit in contemporary Judaism, of a kind of hermeneutic community, although the interpretation we find in the New Testament reveals obvious autonomic features.

Opublikowana przez wydawnictwo Bôłt Records w 2015 roku płyta Barbara Kinga Majewska and Emilia Sitarz play Franz Schubert „Winterreise” jest jednym z najciekawszych przejawów reinterpretacji wybitnych dzieł muzycznych przeszłości, jakich podejmują się eksperymentujący wykonawcy młodszego pokolenia. Wokalistka Barbara Kinga Majewska (ur. 1982) oraz pianistka Emilia Sitarz (ur. 1978) zaproponowały autorską wersję cyklu pieśni Schuberta, w której odnaleźć można tak typowe dla estetyki postmodernizmu łączenie różnych tradycji i stylistyk, jak również liczne przejawy dekompozycji i autorskiego potraktowania oryginału. Problematyka artykułu dotyczy analizy i interpretacji płyty oraz oceny rezultatów działań artystek, jednak zagadnienia te zostają podjęte w szerszym kontekście estetycznym i retorycznym. Zastosowane środki artystyczne, a zwłaszcza możliwa do analitycznego wyśledzenia wyrazista koncepcja narracyjno-retoryczna cyklu Schuberta w tej autorskiej wersji, świadczą o chęci stworzenia oryginalnego dzieła, które można rozumieć nie tyle jako aranżację czy cover, ale jako kongenialne przeniesienie ekspresji romantycznego cyklu pieśniowego w krąg współczesnej wrażliwości i estetyki.
The CD Kinga Majewska and Emilia Sitarz Play Franz Schubert ‘Winterreise’, released in 2015 by Bôłt Records, is one of the most interesting examples of the reinterpretation of outstanding historical musical works by young experimental performers. Singer Barbara Kinga Majewska (b. 1982) and pianist Emilia Sitarz (b. 1978) presented an original version of Schubert’s song cycle, with elements typical of postmodernist aesthetics: a combination of various traditions and styles, numerous forms of decomposition and an idiosyncratic treatment of the original. This article analyses and interprets the contents of the CD, as well as assessing the results of the artists’ work in a wider aesthetic and rhetorical context. The artistic means they applied and, in particular, their distinctive narrative-rhetorical concept of Schubert’s cycle show that they intended to create an original work, which can be viewed not merely as an arrangement or a cover, but as a congenial translation of the Romantic song-cycle type of expression into the realm of contemporary sensibilities and aesthetics.

EYE AND WORD (Fictional Visions in Social Memory) There is no library in Plato’s cave. His dialogues were narrated before books got printed and contemporary information caves filled with mass media and social media do not need books sending googling masses to clouds, not libraries. What matters more – a letter, which is the building brick of words, sentences and novels or a pixel which is a building brick of the deluge of images, a drop in the ocean of an iconic overkill? In aesthetics of photography the question is whether a meaning of a photograph depends more on an iconic and often subconscious impact or on a rational interpretation in the light of what we know having read the caption and the explanation of the context. Visions of contemporary world are best deciphered from an unfinished novel by David Foster Wallace, whose epic story of the Internal Revenue Service chapter in Peoria, Illinois, entitled The Pale King shows us the world of hyperactive consumers, addicted to news, speed, travel, alcohol, drugs, sex and entertainment. For them, boredom of a perfectly boring work – like the one performed for the tax office of the US – is a perfect serum restoring them to a meaningful life and full humanity. Boredom as salvation, here is the vision of a novelist, who also claimed, in his last public lecture, that real education can save our souls both from boredom and from hyper consumption. Pixels are a legion, but words matter and meanings can be found.

IMAGES IN EXILE? – Literary Reinterpretations of Paintings Śnieciński highlighted and analyzed three different strategies of using and reinterpreting images described by prominent contemporary writers. In novels entitled In Praise of the Stepmother and Don Rigobert’s Papers by M.V. Llosa, paintings are considered as catalyst for literary narration. Llosa takes organizes a game with dual nature images; he plays with the relationship between mental images and the media. P. Quignard’s strategy is ‘thinking with images’. His Night Sex is based on quotes from concrete paintings. He combines text with visual narration. The internal dialogue between ‘quoted’ images allows the writer to formulate his questions about sources of imagery. G. Perec’s novel entitled Life: User’s Manual includes images, which are an important element in life-project of one of the characters; they only considered as a form of literary scenario. The scenario for life includes commentary on many phenomena and trends in contemporary art (eg. conceptualism, minimalism, performance art). In all of three strategies, paintings did not lose their identity, although they have been deprived of their roots in materiality. Images gained different potential for action, a new form of existence.

Poziomy wodonośne badane rurowymi próbnikami złoża (RPZ) w otworach poszukiwawczych wykonywanych za złożami ropy naftowej i gazu ziemnego, stanowią znaczny odsetek zapięć RPZ. Stwierdzony brak występowania węglowodorów, względnie śladowe objawy węglowodorów w wodzie złożowej przypływającej do próbnika, stanowi zwykle podstawę do zamykania tych poziomów rurami okładzinowymi wraz z ich cementowaniem, albo korkami cementowymi po ukończeniu wiercenia otworu. Interpretacja rezultatów testów złożowych RPZ, w przypadkach przypływu wody złożowej do próbnika jest najczęściej bardzo pobieżna. Biorąc pod uwagę fakt rosnącego wciąż zainteresowania przemysłu poziomami wodonośnymi pod kątem ich wykorzystania w różnych gałęziach gospodarki narodowej, istnieje potrzeba szczegółowej reinterpretacji wyników testów złożowych. W tym celu autorzy w niniejszej publikacji podjęli próbę opracowania odpowiednich procedur obliczeniowych stanowiących metodykę kompleksowej reinterpretacji danych z testów złożowych RPZ, umożliwiającej m.in. ocenę produktywności oraz komercyjności badanych poziomów wodonośnych. W publikacji przeanalizowano wpływ parametrów dowiercania i opróbowania poziomu wodonośnego w utworach kredy górnej w otworze poszukiwawczym J-35 w obszarze Karpat na wyniki dwucyklowego testu złożowego RPZ. Dokonano szczegółowej reinterpretacji wyników tego testu. Sformułowano spostrzeżenia dotyczące produktywności tego poziomu wodonośnego. Podsumowano otrzymane wyniki analiz i reinterpretacji.
The aquifers examined by drill stem testers (DST) in exploration wells for oil and gas deposits constitute a significant percentage of DST tests. The absence of hydrocarbons, or the traces of hydrocarbons in the reservoir water flowing into the tester, is usually the basis for closing these horizons with casing and cementing or cement plug after the well drilling completion. Interpretation of the results of DST tests, in cases of reservoir water flow to the tester is usually very cursory. Given the growing interest of industry in the use of aquifers in various branches of the national economy, there is a need for detailed reinterpretation of reservoir tests results. This paper attempts to develop computational procedures, which constitute a methodology of comprehensive reinterpretation of the DST data, in order to assess the productivity and commercial nature of the tested aquifers. This paper investigates the impact of drilling parameters and completion on the two-cycle DST test on the example of Upper Jurassic aquifer in the J-35 exploration well in the Carpathian region. This led to a detailed reinterpretation of the test results and formulation of the observations on the productivity of this aquifer. This publication includes summarized results of analysis and reinterpretation.

Opis:
The paper presents a short story entitled Wanda by Zuzanna Orlińska as a posthumanist reinterpretation of the traditional ethnocentric legend. Subtle changes in te character’s motivation and expanding the plot of Wanda’s story into two other texts create a new understanding of community (not only a national one), as well as a new model of women’s participation in it. The foundations of this new model are agency, care and interdependence.
Artykuł przedstawia opowiadanie Zuzanny Orlińskiej pt. Wanda z tomu Współczesny bajarz polski jako próbę reinterpretacji etnocentrycznej legendy w duchu feminizmu i posthumanizmu. Za sprawą subtelnych zmian w motywacji bohaterki oraz rozbudowaniu jej wątku postać królowej z dziejów bajecznych konotuje nowy sposób myślenia o wspólnocie (nie tylko narodowej), a także o zasadach uczestniczenia w niej kobiet. Kobiety stają się jej częścią, przejawiając troskę, współzależność i sprawczość.
