Opis:
The aim of presented research was to explore of personal identity with regard to its structure and content. On the basis of Seymour Epstein’s theory (1991) the exploration included both the sphere of feeling and thinking subject and the sphere of content, coded in mind and recognized as described the self. After review of specialist literature 16 identity senses were gathered and as a result of conducted research and using of Exploratory Factor Analysis the identity senses were grouped into three dimensions: Coherence, Stability and Openness. These three dimensions are treated as structural characteristics of personal identity and as such they display different levels among individuals. Theoretical and empirical meaning of Coherence, Stability and Openness are described and discussed in the article. There is also conclusion that dimension that is the most intensified in someone’s identity, it is at the same time the rule of organization of his or her identity.

Transformation of the socio-cultural realm in Central and Eastern Europe countries associated with the processes of globalization, as well as European integration, led to revitalize the debate on the dynamics and directions of changes of identity. Besides the categories associated with, so-called, “postmodern identity”, often questioning the very existence of dentity as such, other issues have appeared which indicate multilevel identity, taking into account relationship between European, national and regional identity. On the margin of this debate another and new subplot emerged, which is related to migration from non-European cultures and the possibility of spreading and therefore shaping a new model of European identity.

The article’s interpretation of Sońka by Ignacy Karpowicz centres on the construction of the eponymous character. The author of the article analyzes the character’s identity, drawing from the postmodern feminist critique. Especially useful is the concept of nomadism introduced by Rosi Braidotti. Another key idea is the proposal by Adriana Cavarero about the functions of relation and narration in building female identity. The author emphasizes the significance of the body and bodily experience in the creation of the feminine self.

The identity issue in D.P. McAdams’ and E.H. Erikson approachesThe article investigates the relationship between narrative and psychosocial identity. Dan McAdams’ point of departure for his concept of narrative identity is Erik Erikson’s developmental model, based on whih he states that narrative identity as a globally coherent life story begins to emerge in adolescence and early adulthood. He refers to the same developmental factors as Erikson and stresses an analogical function: the integration of different elements of life. On the other hand, narrative self-understanding allows to include a personal change in time better than stable commitments. The aforementioned premises inspired exploratory research on the relation of emerging life commitments and global coherence of self narratives. Examined adolescents constructed superficial coherent autonarratives without any relation to commitments, although commitments were positively related to thematic coherence based on self-refl ection. Causal understanding of personal change was rarely included in the stories (even by people with strong commitments). The author argues that it is likely that at first there develops the conventional and superficial organization of an autonarrative whih is then structured on the refl ection of someone’s life. Although the integration of one’s life is common for both approaches to identity, understanding a personal change is probably more related to further developmental achievements than stable commitments.

Opis:
The aim of this article is to describe the evolution of identity within European societies in the 21st century driven by two factors that overlap – migration crisis of 2015 and globalization as well as the impact of these two factors on the European liberal economic and political model. The aforementioned processes have generated several negative effects and as a result they have put to test the elaborate and long-time project of United Europe. Particular nations started to loudly express their concerns and objections regarding the rules governing economic relations and the ways of dealing with migration issues. The multidimensional sense of insecurity has inspired a pan-European dispute with questions regarding areas and scope of unity, sovereignty etc. Some turbulence in identity of European nations has been observed leading to different changes in perception of identity including recurrence of seemingly long forgotten definitions of national identity. One can even say that the future success of the EU project has become dependent on the problem of European identity. This article is an attempt to analyze the impact of aforementioned factors on the identity of European societies.

Opis:
This article presents the relations between identity and religion based on biographical interviews with people of Polish decent currently living in Crimea. Poles in Crimea are a minority functioning in a multinational context, among 134 other nations. According to the last census nearly 4,000 people declared membership of the Polish group. The conducted research shows that persons of Polish decent are dispersed, constituting larger clusters in cities such as Simferopol, Sevastopol or Yalta. It is there that after 1991 Roman-Catholic parishes and associations of Poles have been established. The objectives of the associations are to integrate the dispersed communities, safeguard the remembrance of history and culture, as well as maintain ties with the homeland. The article considers the role of religion in relation to identity on three levels: the construction, maintainability, and change of identity. On the first level, a significant element repeatedly mentioned in the biographical narratives is baptism, as an initiation into the religious community, and celebrating Christmas and Easter. Baptism in the Orthodox rite was frequent in the researched group and, as it occurred, was a path to changing one's identity; similarly to mixed marriages. What is interesting, in maintaining one's identity an important role is played by identifying Polishness with Catholicism, also in the group of people who have a complex, contextual identity and, depending on this context, identify themselves as Poles or Russians. In all cases the recollections of lost coherent national and religious identity among the ancestors are kept alive. They are important in maintaining one's identity and take part in constructing the boundaries of group identity, mainly in relation to the Russians as a dominant group, and in differentiating Catholicism from Orthodoxy. In these comparisons Poles are characterized by higher culture, spirituality, linkages with the European tradition and the ability to treasure it. These functions are strengthened by a revival of Catholicism in Crimea, possible after the collapse of the Soviet Union and enabling the respondents to manifest the links between this religion and Polishness by means of participating in religious practices and organizing activities in a few Roman Catholic parishes.

Issues related to identities and ethno-national identifications are more frequently described and analysed in the context of social dynamics. Researchers dealing with the theme point to the evolution of identities, change in their makeup related to the emergence of a different context of group functioning, and also changes connected with the nature of ethnic relations, from habitual relations to ideological relations. The article concerns the Lemko people’s identity. This is a borderline group of multi-dimensional cultural identity, divided in terms of identity. A number of the Lemko people consider themselves as Ukrainians, others consider the Lemko as a distinct ethnic group, while others see themselves as a Carphatorussian nation along with Belarusians, Russians and Ukrainians. The article consists of two main parts. The first part presents basic categories of identity that have been reconstructed on the basis of the research results. The study was carried out in the mid-nineties among representatives of this small east-Slavic community. The second part examines the dynamics of the Lemko identity. The dynamics show variability of its cultural content and a certain evolution of identity constructs created by the Lemko ethnic leaders. The text highlights new developments that emerged in the debate on identity after the Lemko were inscribed as a separate ethnic minority to the Act on National and Ethnic Minorities and Regional Language of 2005.

The presented text aims, on the one hand, to recall people’s lives that should not be forgotten, and on the other hand, it is an attempt to mark in their context the borderline of the validity of contemporary pedagogical reflection on symbolic violence. The former concerns the analysis of Polish Jews’ childhood experiences from the World War II period, connected with the breaking of the primary national and religious identity and re-integration into a new Polish identity. The latter aim is related to the embedding of the indicated problem on the background of contemporary pedagogical reflection, and in particular critical pedagogy, for which one of the key categories has become symbolic violence, aimed at changing the human identity. The goal is to analyze the children’s testimonies of the Holocaust, in which the theoretical concept of the enslaved childhood of Wiesław Theiss was used. It allowed to capture the field of enslavement of Jewish children in its various dimensions.

Identity crisis, identity styles, parents–adolescents relations
Opis:
The relationship with parents and identity styles in early and mid-adolescence.The resolution of identity crisis is the main developmental task for adolescents. Identity is formed in social contexts. Family is the of the earliest and most important social groups in the development of a child. There are several theoretical perspectives on the links between parent-adolescent relations and identity. They suggest that warm, close family relationship characterised by control and acceptance of adolescents’ autonomy promotes exploration of identity alternatives. The main purpose of the present study was to describe the connection between adolescents’ relationship with their parents and their identity styles. The 469 adolescents (145 from colleges, 324 from high schools) participated in this study. They completed the Identity Style Inventory ISI (M. Berzonsky) and Parents-Adolescents Relations Inventory (E. Gurba). Positive links between good relations with parents, low number of confl icts and normative and informational style of early and mid-adolescents’ identity were found. The high frequency and number of conflicts between mother and mid-adolescents were connected with diffuse-avoidant style of identity. The adolescents’ identity styles were more often correlated with the characteristics of relations with their mother than with their father.

Language and Identity: The Case of MontenegroThe Montenegrin language was established as the official language of newly independent Montenegro in 2007. However, the idea of a separate Montenegrin language remained dormant until the mid-1990s, when a small group of Montenegrin pro-independence intellectuals, aiming to reconstruct all the trappings of a separate Montenegrin identity, started to emphasize the distinctiveness of the language of Montenegrins. How did it happen that once being a marginal idea, Montenegrin became the native language for almost 37 percent of the Montenegrin population in 2011? This article is an attempt to answer this question. It provides a brief overview of the language situation in Montenegro from the time of socialist Yugoslavia to the independence era, paying attention to the changes in the political elites’ attitudes towards the language issue. The standardization process of the Montenegrin language is described by focusing on the aspects, which are considered most significant from the perspective of identity. The paper also describes how the Montenegrin language is being narratized so that the language narrative is being produced as a part of the broader narrative about the Montenegrin identity. Finally, an analysis of the last two censuses’ data reveals changes in the population structure in Montenegro according to nationality and mother tongue between 2003 and 2011, i.e. the period when the issues of identity and language became extremely politicized. Język a tożsamość: przypadek CzarnogóryJęzyk czarnogórski został uznany za język urzędowy niepodległej Czarnogóry w 2007 roku. Temat odrębnego języka w Czarnogórze został nagłośniony dopiero w połowie lat 90. ubiegłego wieku przez niewielką grupę zorientowanych niepodległościowo intelektualistów, dążących do rekonstrukcji wszystkich aspektów odrębnej tożsamości czarnogórskiej. Artykuł przedstawia krótki zarys sytuacji językowej w Czarnogórze od czasów socjalistycznej Jugosławii do czasów niepodległości, z uwzględnieniem ewolucji w podejściu elit politycznych do kwestii języka czarnogórskiego. Wreszcie – analiza danych spisów ludności z lat 2003 i 2011 ukazuje przemiany, które zaszły w strukturze narodowościowej i językowej w Czarnogórze w omawianym okresie, kiedy kwestie tożsamości i języka uległy silnej polityzacji.

The purpose of the current study was to investigate the relationship between identity and readiness for classical and conspiracy stereotyping. The conspiracy stereotypes are holistic representations of the entire out-groups, whereas the classical stereotypes are mainly trait-theories of a typical out- -grouper. The obtained results suggest that the strongest propensity for both kinds of stereotyping is typically related to social identity whereas the lowest – to individual identity. It was also observed that the individuals with the well-balanced identity (when the personal and the social identity is well developed) have the cognitive tools characteristic for both personal and social identity. It can be assumed that social identity plays an important role in conspiracy stereotyping, as subjects with well-balanced identity were more prone for this kind of stereotyping, which is extensively discussed in the paper.

In the paper, the relation between a borderland region and the social identity of borderland inhabitants is considered. A question is posed whether the borderland has a stronger impact on the social identity of its inhabitants or the direction of the impact is opposite. The answer to this question is sought in the studies of borderland theoreticians and researchers, and in a reconstruction of how this relation is contemplated by them. The analyses lead to the conclusion that the borderland, its characteristics and properties undoubtedly have a stronger impact on the identity of its inhabitants than their identity and its specificity affect the borderland. In the conclusions, a thesis is formulated about the borderland effect, which is a sociological unobservable variable, whose impact, among others, is manifested in specific social identity profiling of its inhabitants.

The article presents and discusses a number of recommendations concerning engagement in such research. The most important include: grounding the research in middle-range theories; moving beyond methodological nationalism; taking an interdisciplinary approach and a historical and processual perspective; resorting to fieldwork, which flexibly employs so-called soft research techniąues, including observation, which requires a longer stay in the field; applying grounding and triangulation procedures in the process of collecting empirical data.
