The Author of this article departs from the assumption that the current public debate is filled with varied social, cultural and communicative phenomena. The paper offers a preliminary description of the field comprising advice, tips, recommendations, indications and guidebooks. Moreover, it looks at the possibilities (strategies) of interdisciplinary description of therapeutic discourse as well as associated speech genres.
Autorka artykułu zakłada, że współczesną przestrzeń debaty publicznej zasiedlają zróżnicowane zjawiska społeczne, kulturowe i komunikacyjne. Dokonuje ona wstępnej charakterystyki obszaru, w którego centrum mieszczą się rady, porady, zalecenia, wskazówki i poradniki. Zastanawia się także nad możliwościami (strategiami) interdyscyplinarnego opisu dyskursu terapeutycznego oraz wiązanych z nim gatunków mowy.

The article presents a characteristics of several contemporary communication phenomena transforming religious discourse in its Catholic version. The author understands discourse as the entirety of communication practices specific to a particular community of believers, which in the course of various interactions fixes and agrees relevant to this community content, preserves appropriate scenarios of communication behavior and rules for their completion by utterances and/or non-verbal means. The author emphasizes the peculiarity of the religious discourse that is open to transcendence. She limits the scope of the presented communication phenomena to the catechetical discourse, which now focuses on participation of the catechized people in the process of catechesis. The methods of catechesis should therefore take into account the spiritual needs of the believers. Catechesis formulated in this mode promotes communication experiments, especially the processes of movement, i.e. translocation of speech genres from the secular to sacred realm. According to the author these translocations are accomplished in new genre forms that maintain the memory of their basic genre code, but at the same time are subject to processes of transformation conducive to the creation of new genre patterns. Some of them do not have genre identifiers in the form of special names and are only a beginning of new conventions. Such status is attributed by the author to evangelization visiting card analyzed in the article. Some of them gain names and create a series that preserves the innovative principles of the genre. As an example, the author discusses messages called the heaventels. They are an adaptation of the SMS convention for simulated (stylized) communication of God as the sender to the man. Translocations are favourable to launching of the adaptation processes and formation of genre duplicates that make the input (secular) genre form more capacious and communicatively catchy.

The starting point o f this contribution is the assumption that there is an overall uncertainty about the use o f the term discourse in various disciplines. The author presents different ways of understanding discourse in philosophy (primarily by Habermas and Foucault). The core part of the paper discusses the heterogeneous linguistic concepts of discourse, starting from the idea o f discourse as a simple conversation through Critical DiscourseAnalysis and institutionalised interai rons up to textology-based concept of discourse. Particular attention is devoted to the use o f the notion o f discourse in sociology (and its related disciplines such as historiography, political science and media stuaies). When describing the concepts o f discourse in various disciplines the author draws attention to the vaned methods o f discourse analysis applied there, including the universal model byWamke/Spitzmiiller. The finał section identifies and critically discusses problem areas in discourse studies. The paper also postulates that the current the fascination with Foucault should be abandoned wlien circumscribing the scope of discourse studies in favour of strwing for pragmatic and communicative adeąuacy.

Analizując dyskurs baletowy, spektaklu nie należy traktować jak dokładnego przedstawienia, ale jak wewnętrznie uwarunkowane treści i wzorce określonego aktu komunikacji środowiska artystycznego. Należy podkreślić uniwersalne elementy spajające, czyli libretto – spektakl – choreografię – taniec. W tym artykule autorka dąży do nakreślenia procedur przygotowawczych, do precyzyjnego określenia dyskursu baletowego. Myślę, że wydobycie wartości podstawowych i szczegółowych musi nastąpić w momencie doprecyzowania ich istoty jako konkretnego przekazu. W związku z powyższym warunkiem, koniecznym jest zbliżenie się do osiągnięcia tego celu poprzez wytyczenie kolejnych inicjatyw badawczych.
While analysing a ballet discourse, spectacle should not be treated like an exact performance, but like an internally conditioned contents and patterns of definite act of artistic environment communication. What should be accentuated is its universal bonding elements i.e. libretto – show – choreography – dance. In this article I strived towards mapping out the preparatory procedures for describing the precise definition of ballet discourse. I think that bringing out the fundamental and specific values has to transpire in a moment of clarification its essence as a particular communication. Accordingly, rapprochement to achieving this goal is prerequisite to chart next research initiatives.

The article’s focus is on the creation of the notion of divorce in online legal discourse. The study material comes from an Internet forum discussing legal issues. The analysis shows that divorce is generally presented as a conscious decision of an individual; one that requires preparation and often time and effort as well. Moreover, it is a crucial point in life at which the divorcees solve their current problems. The term is also associated with new opportunities and is often a chance to talk about human experience. The article distincts the most frequently-used words accompanying divorce: child, alimony, money and flat. It is worth noting that the studied material uses only one meaning of the word divorce, introduced by the Napoleonic Code and understood as ‚a dissolution of legally-valid marriage’.

The analysis focuses on the Polish scientific discourse of the George Lako ’s and Mark Johnson‘s theory. The author wonders whether two Polish terms “cognitive metaphor” and “conceptual meta- phor” can be guided by the same principles in the examined discourse. At the outset of the text, a quantitative survey took place, followed by qualitative ones: the first aimed to identify the key words and examine in which contexts they occur, the second attempted to verify whether both described terms are similarly conceptualized or not. It appears that additional review of the methods of pro ling the analyzed terms de nitely confirms the identified correlation. Namely: the way of naming one phenomenon depends on the text and the context (Polish and original) of the discourse, which the researchers refer to.

The analysis of topoi (patterns of argumentation) is an established method of text and discourse analysis. Following the ancient rhetoric and the modern theory of argumentation, this article elaborates on the essential aspects of the topos concept. In particular it will be discussed, how the complex topos concept was received in the linguistics and implemented as a method of discourse analysis. The discourse-orientated methods of topos analysis include a structure- and a content-related analysis of topoi. So far these two approaches have been in conflict with each other. However, as it will be shown below, they can be combined to analyze topological discourse formations in order to take a closer look at the discourse in the sense of Foucault. Using the example of legitimizing political action in times of economic and political crises, the added value of this integrative approach is demonstrated.

The research related to the functioning of a family belongs to complex tasks. It attracts the interest of the representatives of numerous scientific disciplines and it intersects the research areas. However, a great deal of research does not reflect the specific experiences of families, their causes, and even consequences. In Polish educational literature concerning contemporary families, one can distinguish three kinds of discourse on knowledge and analysis of a family. In the most rare hermeneutic phenomenological discourse the researchers focus on the subjective experiences of individuals, their individual definition of a situation, the interpretation and conferring meanings. They assume the existence of multiplicity of „microworlds”. In the increasingly emerging descriptive explicative discourse, the interactions between human activities and their effects are emphasized. The consequences of differentiated family experiences – gains and losses – as the results of individual actions are perceived. However, the normative discourse dominates in the research on Polish contemporary family. The discourse is characterized by the rigid structure of knowledge as well as research and interpretive approach, the lack of both – description of family experiences and recognition of the broad context of the experiences. A distinctive feature of works in this genre is the domination of one „ideology” of a commentator, which manifests itself in the pursuit of the exclusion of other (alternative) ideas or arguments. The opinions (and analysis) are taxonomic and are characterized by stability and lack of flexibility in the evaluation of experiences of various types of families. An example is the common way of interpretation of experiences of single-parent families, and especially the families spatially disconnected due to migration of parents. They are the families which function beyond geographical borders and the norms determined by many educators.
Badania dotyczące funkcjonowania rodziny należą do zadań złożonych. Łączą w sobie zainteresowania przedstawicieli wielu dyscyplin naukowych, krzyżują pola badawcze zainteresowanych. Wiele z nich ma jednak charakter, który nie oddaje specyfiki doświadczeń rodzin, ich przyczyn, a nawet konsekwencji. W polskiej literaturze pedagogicznej dotyczącej współczesnych rodzin można wyróżnić trzy typy dyskursów dotyczących wiedzy i analiz o rodzinie. W ramach najrzadziej pojawiającego się dyskursu hermeneutyczno – fenomenologicznego badacze koncentrują się na subiektywnych doświadczeniach jednostek, ich indywidualnej definicji sytuacji, interpretacji oraz nadawaniu znaczeń. Zakładają istnienie wielości „mikroświatów”. W coraz częściej pojawiającym się dyskursie deskryptywno – eksplikatywnym akcentuje się wzajemne powiązania pomiędzy ludzkimi działaniami i ich efektami. Dostrzegane są konsekwencje zróżnicowanych doświadczeń rodzinnych – zysków i strat - jako efektów indywidualnych działań. W badaniach nad polską współczesną rodziną dominuje jednak dyskurs normatywny, który charakteryzuje się sztywnością struktury poznania i postawy badawczo-interpretacyjnej, brakiem opisu doświadczeń rodzinnych oraz rozpoznania szerokiego kontekstu tych doświadczeń. Wyraźną cechą prac w tym nurcie jest dominacja jednej „ideologii” komentatora, która przejawia się w dążeniu do wyłączenia innych (alternatywnych) poglądów, argumentów, spojrzenia. Wypowiedzi (i analizy) mają charakter taksonomiczny, charakteryzuje się statycznością, brakiem elastyczności w ocenie doświadczeń różnych typów rodzin. Przykładem jest powszechny sposób interpretacji doświadczeń rodzin niepełnych, a zwłaszcza rodzin rozłączonych przestrzennie z powodu migracji zagranicznych rodziców, do którego odwołam się w dalszej części tekstu. Są to rodziny, które funkcjonują ponad granicami geograficznymi oraz normami wyznaczanymi przez wielu pedagogów.

The main purpose of this paper is to present the specific character of educational discourse in terms of the critical (CDA) and critically-oriented discourse analysis (E. Laclau and Ch. Mouffe) and to identify issues and problems that affect research concerning the discursive construction of identity. My main subjects of interest, and the key notions for the discourse-oriented pedagogy, are identity and knowledge. I will try to show how in spite of the relevance of those two notions, the use of discourse analysis in pedagogical research forces us to transcend the narrowly defined disciplinary boundaries. When it is analyzed in a critical manner the thing we call “educational discourse” expands considerably, affecting the scope of both theoretical and research-oriented interests of pedagogy itself. With regard to identity and knowledge, I try to show the inadequacies of the often employed theories of E. Laclau, Ch. Mouffe and M. Foucaul, for analysis of identification processes. I argue that those processes may be successfully analyzed using the CDA framework. The issue of structural constraints that is addressed in CDA, in combination with Laclau’s theory of affective investment allow for a more comprehensive study of the conditions of possibility of the processes of identification.

The subject matter of the article is the conceptualization of cyberspace in the Polish parliamentary discourse. It was recognised as important to identify how representatives of legislature perceived cyberspace in 2001–2018. The source of analyses were texts excerpted from the Polish Parliamentary Corpus. In the research ethnolinguistic and cognitive linguistics approach (linguistic and discursive worldview) and diachronic linguistics approach were applied to establish fixed and variable elements of cyberspace conceptualization. The following components were identified as fixed: the perception of cyberspace in threat terms (legal and military contexts) and its definitional elusiveness. In turn, the transition from treating the studied phenomenon as a novelty to its empowerment may be seen as the main change here.

The coronavirus pandemic has undoubtedly left an imprint on various spheres of human existence, not excluding communication, which is a certain refl ection of the reality around us. The aim of this study was to examine the nature of the broadly defi ned discourse concerned with coronavirus in Polishlanguage scientific publications from professional medical journals. The qualitative discourse analysis, which makes it possible to capture the complexity and context of the studied data, was applied to this end. The analysis was carried out using the SketchEngine® tool, which serves the purpose of identifying certain patterns in language. The outcome shows that the examined discourse is characterised by the presence of specialised stories, impersonal nature of the argument, and numerous metaphors, including the metaphor of war.

This paper approaches the position of expert witnesses and written expert opinions from a comparative perspective by considering such aspects as: qualifications required to become an expert witness, the way in which experts are appointed, the role and importance of expert opinion in court proceedings. The paper discusses the impact of legal provisions on the way(s) in which the opinions are expressed, especially the extent to which law imposes a fixe organizational format. It turns out that some fundamental differences between the position of expert opinions and their opinions result from the radically different legal systems and cultures. While the Russian legal system appears to codify nearly each aspect of the expert witness work and their opinion, experts in Anglo-American systems have much more leeway in shaping the conventions of the genre, as long as they take account of the general standards contained in the relevant legislation and case law.

The concept of four-level context by Ruth Wodak is to provide triangulation and minimize the risk of being biased. Simultaneously the analysis of this concept in combination with the research programme of HDA is an expression of interdisciplinarity’s importance in this approach.
