Adolescence is a time of particular susceptibility to mental disorders. A programme aimed at facilitating emotional development in teenagers might be an important element of prophylactic psychopathology targeting young people. The activities proposed here are group activities and have several aims: to develop the ability to become self-aware regarding one's emotions and regulate their intensity; to foster an attitude of caring for oneself; and to teach problem-solving. What is of particular significance is shaping young people’s habits in being proactive in their personal development.

The role of family and peers in the development of compulsive buying tendency among teenagersSince the 1990s, one could observe a growing focus on children’s and teenagers’ consumption behavior, especially their influence on family decisions. Growing up in the consumption culture may lead to developing dysfunctional consumer behavior, e.g. compulsive buying. Compulsive buying is defined as chronic, pathological purchasing that becomes a response to negative events or feelings and ultimately results in harmful consequences. The purpose of the research was to establish the impact of family acquisition and expenditure patterns and susceptibility to peer influence on compulsive buying. The analysis has revealed that compulsive buying depends significantly on teens’ susceptibility to peer influence. The study has confi rmed the impact of incorrect family acquisition, expenditure pattern and gender.

Adolescents psychological reactance: The role of source and direction  of social pressure on uniforming clothes in schoolThis paper is a research report over psychological reactance among adolescents. The reactance was provoked by the experimental situation, which was modeled on Jack Brehm’s works. The phenomenon of reactance was measured on the adolescents experience field linked with the project of uniforming clothes in schools. It was assumed, that this project is in the area of great interest and is very important for adolescents, in addition it can be viewed as social pressure, which provoke the reactance reaction. The result show, that there egzists the global resistance toward discussed problem.

The adolescence period is a time in which appear some significant adjustments concerning one’s identity. Adolescents, both males and females, have to undertake new forms of behaviour and experiment in order to determine their own place in the society and to find the answer to the question ‘who am I?’. Risk behaviours, including using alcohol by young people during adolescence, are supposed to meet the developmental challenges, bearing in mind personal resources and limitations occurring in the context of the development of an adolescent. The article presents a discussion concerning the meaning of a developing identity in using alcohol by adolescents as well as the proper understanding of teenagers’ identity dilemmas when relevant psychological and pedagogical interventions are chosen.

The concept of passion is not without reason at the center of interest of theoreticians of contemporary psychology. The lifestyle imposed on the human by world economies, aiming at increasing industrialization and uniformization , contributes to the marginalization of citizens and, consequently, to the development of stress factors significantly affecting human health and life. Therefore, it becomes necessary to awaken in the society the awareness of an urgent need to find a balance between the many aspects of personality and other aspects of self-development , among which an important role is played by the process of forming one`s own personality by discovering individual interests , which are defined in the article by the term passion. The responsibility for arousing curiosity about the world, which is the foundation of the development of passion, rests primarily on the shoulders of educators. The effect of the sustainable development of the human personality completed in the education process, should be the compliance of the undertaken professional a work with the individual`s predispositions and interests, which is finalized in the successful functioning of the entire society, in the hands of experts - enthusiasts. Whether young people find their own path, despite the difficulties they face during their turbulent adolescence, largely depends on the quality of their relationship with educators. The foundation of arousing deep interest in young people is the understanding of the importance of the processes taking place in human minds and an ability of teachers to think creatively and innovatively. It is also important to emphasize that the identity formed during the difficult years of adolescence, an inseparable element of which is creation the human interests, has a significant impact on the further stages of an individual`s development. A favorable conclusion of the process of forming an adolescent`s identity, determines the harmony of his further development. Having the ability to admire the world becomes one of the guarantors of the harmonious development of the personality from the first years until the fall of life.

Adolescence is a developmental period of rapid changes, when teenagers begin to surmount challenges and learn autonomy. It is also unfortunately the period of many threats for youth. Juvenile prostitution is a crime and belongs to social pathologies. In spite of proportionally small number, it is burdened with grave consequences. Counteraction and prophylaxis are pivotal. In the work, the factors directing an adolescent to prostitution have been discussed on the basis of literature. We have isolated culturally social, family and environmental factors, i.e. proceeding from peers. Subsequently, we have presented hypothetical grounds directly leading towards juvenile prostitution.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest próba określenia związku pomiędzy doświadczeniem przemocy w dzieciństwie a zachowaniami ryzykownymi dla zdrowia i życia wśród polskiej młodzieży. Grupę badaną stanowili pacjenci (w wieku 14-18 lat) kilkunastu polskich placówek zajmujących się leczeniem młodzieży przejawiającej zachowania ryzykowne. W badaniu wykorzystano Inwentarz Wczesnej Traumy (ETT) oraz Skalę Zachowań Zdrowotnych konstrukcji własnej. Wyniki wskazują, że młodzież po próbach samobójczych oraz nadużywająca środków psychoaktywnych najczęściej doświadczała w dzieciństwie przemocy fizycznej, zaś młodzież z zaburzeniami odżywiania - przemocy emocjonalnej oraz seksualnej.
The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between childhood experiences of violence and health- or life-threatening high-risk behaviors among Polish adolescents. The studied group consisted of 14-18 year old patients from several Polish centers treating young people with high-risk behaviors. Early Trauma Inventory (ETI) and the Scale of Healthy Behaviors were used in the study. Results: Young people after suicidal attempts and with substance abuse reported predominantly experiences of physical violence in childhood. Adolescents with eating disorders had experienced emotional and sexual violence.

Opis:
Classical concepts of human development elaborated in the 20th century do not take into consideration the normative development of homosexual people. On the other hand, the depathologization of homosexuality has resulted in an increase of knowledge about gays’ and lesbians’ performance and health. The process of homosexual identity formation, usually beginning in adolescence, has been recognized and well described in the field of psychology. However, this knowledge is rarely integrated with general theories of human development. The article presents the developmental challenges of adolescence and points out the limitations and possibilities of Erikson’s theory in incorporating the experiences of homosexual adolescents. The authors discuss the specific difficulties minority adolescents face growing up in a heteronormative culture and the main stages of homosexual identity formation. The article ends with a reflection on the possibility of integrating the concept of homosexual identity development with Erik Erikson’s theory of identity crisis and its potential solutions in adolescence.

Personality traits and adolescents’ decisions concerning education and career planningOne of the most signifi cant tasks confronting adolescents is planning future career in order to start an independent life (Kanfer et al., 2001). A number of studies show that it poses number of signifi cant problems (Super, 1963; Super, Savickas, Super, 1996; Webber, 1990; Borgen, Amundson, 2010). The aim of the present study was to defi ne decision-making mechanisms that have an impact on career planning by adolescents and the infl uence of their personality traits upon it. The NEO-FFI Inventory and a self-constructed questionnaire were administered to 116 students of the last year of a secondary school. The data indicate correlations between the choices concerning further studies and personality traits measured with NEO-FFI Inventory. The following traits proved to be signifi cant: neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness, and conscientiousness

The aim of the study was to identify the predictors of satisfaction with present life and prospects for the future among people with disabilities in their adolescence (16-17 years of age), emerging adulthood (18-25 years) and early adulthood (26-30 years). The results indicate that satisfaction with present as well as future life is linked to various predictors. In the case of the first variable, the general assessment of one’s health is of major significance whereas in the case of the two subsequent age groups continuation of education is also important. Satisfaction with future prospects is determined, above all, by satisfactory financial situation of one’s family and relations with people other than family members.

The article presents the results of empirical research on the self image of youth from different types of families: the full family, temporarily incomplete (labor migration) family and permanently incomplete (divorced) families obtained using the projection method “Draw – a – Family Test”. Comparison of the results obtained by youth from different types of family allows a wider insight into the specificity of today’s functioning of labour migrant family and youth growing up in such kind of families. The study was conducted with the participation of 183 adolescents (92 girls, 91 boys, 14 – 17 years old) from the western areas of Ukraine (Lviv region). The final part of the article contains the main conclusion from empirical research.
