The present research relates to relationships between procrastination and a university subject. It included 84 students of pre-school and early school pedagogy, psychology and economics as well as an additional group of extramural students of management being in employment. They were asked to fill up the Pure Procrastination Scale Questionnaire. Findings indicate that a tendency to procrastinate is highest in students of pre-school and early school pedagogy, and psychology. Moreover, the tendency to procrastinate was most clearly manifested in the behavioral domain, which suggests lack of self-efficacy and/or poor time management. The results obtained proved to be statistically significant, yet they should be treated with caution due to a small sample of the examined subjects. They, however, point to the direction of further research.

The article presents the beginning of the Polish University Abroad establishing in Paris during the Second World War and later on in London (where we were found by the Polish authorities in exile as the private university with full public rights in 1952). Another part of the article shows PUNO activities in 21st century. e current structure of the university has been introduced, which comprises: Faculty of Humanities and three Institutes: Social Sciences, European Culture and Technical Sciences, together which 11 didactic and research units. The following categories apply: Didactics – with postgraduate studies, PhD seminars, seminars and workshops, including „Polish Culture Course” (run non-stop since 1953), „Twentieth Century Polish History Seminar” (a seminar in English with participation of leading British historians dealing with the Polish history of the 20th century). ScientiWc research – currently there are over 30 individual and group research projects at PUNO with broad scope of topics. Among them is the project funded by the European Union called TICASS and carried out by PUNO together with universities from Poland, Italy, Czech Republic and Kenya. International academic conferences – with the majority devoted to emigration issues. It includes the annual PUNO April Conference, organized on the anniversary days of the Smolensk catastrophe and commemorating the last President of the Republic of Poland in Exile – Mr. Ryszard Kaczorowski. Publishing – newly founded university publishing house PUNO Press, which issued eight books between 2016 and 2018, including „Zeszyty Naukowe PUNO”. e article also presents University plans for the closest future, including two bachelordegree studies for Polish migrants living abroad and further development of the PUNO Research Centre for young academics from Poland as well as for Polish-speaking diaspora living outside Poland.

This article is to present a collective portrait of the members of the pre-war fraternity organisations. These students’ corporations were ideological and educational and they had a hierarchical structures. The author tried to demonstrate that students who actively participated in the university life by joining different associations and ideological and/or educational organisations, were more likely to get involved in political activities, publicity and journalism in the future. Moreover they worked underground in various military formations after 1939.
Artykuł ma na celu przedstawienie portretu zbiorowego korporantów, a więc członków przedwojennych korporacji akademickich, czyli organizacji o profilu ideowo-wychowawczym, o hierarchicznej strukturze. Autor starał się wykazać, iż rozpoczynający swą aktywność podczas studiów korporanci, uczestniczyli w życiu studenckim należąc do bratnich pomocy, kół naukowych, a także organizacji ideowo-wychowawczych, a następnie żywo włączali się w działalność polityczną, byli aktywni jako publicyści i dziennikarze, a po 1939 r. podejmowali się pracy konspiracyjnej w różnych formacjach wojskowych, jak Armia Krajowa, Narodowe Siły Zbrojne, Narodowa Organizacja Wojskowa. Mimo różnych torów losów, odmiennych poglądów politycznych nazwiska wielu korporantów zapisały się w najnowszej historii Polski. Wśród nich byli Bolesław Piasecki, Jerzy Giedroyc, Wojciech Wasiutyński, Zbigniew Stypułkowski, Juliusz Sas-Wisłocki i wielu innych.

Lithuania is the only country of the former Soviet empire where Polish schools survived during the Soviet domination; their number was over 300. Owing to that, Poles in Lithuania, who constitute 8% of the country's population, have preserved the strongest national consciousness. Numerous Polish organisations are active there, with the Polish Union in the lead; also Polish press is published. An important role is played by the Polish University in Vilnius established by the Association of Polish Scientists in Lithuania in the autumn of 1991; the University was re-named Universitas Studiorum Polona Vilnensis (USPV) in May 1998. It is a non-state scholarly and research institution that educates scholars and professionals for the Polish intelligentsia in Lithuania. The University mainly is occupied with medicine, social sciences, humanities and theology. It struggles with housing, pecuniary and technical difficulties as well as with a shortage of academic staff. It is partly aided by scholars from Poland, and as far as financial and technical aid is concerned – by the Polish colony in Southern California; in the years 1992-1998 the University received $ 12, 513 aid from them. The University also patronises Polish schools in Lithuania. Despite the economic troubles and difficulties created by the Lithuanian authorities the number of schools with Polish classes increased from 96 to 125 and the number of pupils from 9995 to 20, 263 in the years 1988 – 1998. Also Polish groups are formed in kindergartens. Polish schools as well as the University are supplied with educational aids and technical equipment by the Polish colony in Southern California and by various organisations in Poland.

Udostępnianie zbiorów jest jednym z najbardziej zmiennych procesów w dziejach bibliotek uczelni wyższych. Historia i czasy współczesne pokazują, jak księgozbiory wpływają na działalność bibliotek. Nie wystarczy pozyskiwać zasoby, by trwać, efektywnie funkcjonować. Miejsce przechowywania zbiorów, technika zapisu treści i nowe technologie to jedne z wielu czynników składających się na osiągnięcie celów organizacji. W artykule zwrócono uwagę na wybrane zagadnienia związane z księgozbiorami bibliotecznymi w kontekście ich udostępniania. Próbowano wykazać, jakie zmiany zachodzą w udostępnianiu na skutek przeobrażeń w zbiorach i wykorzystania nowych technologii w bibliotekach i zasygnalizować, co zachęca użytkowników do korzystania z bibliotek.
Sharing materials is one of the most variable processes in the history of university libraries. History and modern times show how book collections affect the activities of libraries. It is not enough to acquire resources to last, to function effectively. The place where the collections are stored, the technology of recording content and new technologies are one of many factors that make up achieving an organization’s goals. Polish traditional university stands on the road leading to “the station” named: An entrepreneurial University. A broad range of research results’ commercialization and an intensive cooperation between a university and the business sector are two – mutually tided with each other – basic features of the entrepreneurial University creating essential sources of its revenues. A signpost on the road towards such model of a university is the strategy of broadening, diversifi cation and streamlining its research cooperation with the economic environment.

The article presents the source inspirations of what can be called the „Polish university model”. This model emerges in the functioning of Polish universities in the 20th century and is undoubtedly related to the foundations of science laid by Kazimierz Twardowski in the philosophical and logical activity of the Lvov- Warsaw School. The article aims to explore the sources of Twardowski's inspiration that influenced the shape of his school, and also translated into the wider functioning of Polish universities. Among the sources, the author points to the texts of Immanuel Kant, Wilhelm von Humboldt and Karl Jaspers.
Artykuł prezentuje źródłowe inspiracje czegoś, co można nazwać „polskim modelem uniwersytetu”. Model ten wyłania się w funkcjonowaniu polskich uczelni w XX wieku i niewątpliwie ma związek z fundamentami naukowości położonymi przez Kazimierza Twardowskiego w działalności filozoficzno-logicznej Szkoły Lwowsko-Warszawskiej. Artykuł stawia sobie za cel eksplorację źródeł inspiracji Twardowskiego, które wpłynęły na kształt jego szkoły, a także przełożyły się na szersze funkcjonowanie polskich uczelni wyższych. Wśród źródeł autor wskazuje na teksty Immanuela Kanta, Wilhelma von Humboldta i Karla Jaspersa.

Student accommodation received recently particular attention of scholars. As evidenced in the United Kingdom – due to the massification of higher education – private accommodation markets started to expand in university cities. The paper aims to discuss these findings in Polish context taking into consideration data on students’ populations and their use of halls of residence run by higher educational institutions (HEIs) in 18 major Polish university cities. While 10 cities experienced a growth of university students between 2004 and 2014, at the same time in 17 cities their number and proportion accommodated in halls of residence run by HEIs lowered. It is to say that majority of these cities most probably experienced an influx of students seeking private accommodation.
Zakwaterowanie studenckie zyskało w ostatnich latach szczególną uwagę badaczy. Doświadczenia brytyjskie wskazują, że rynki zakwaterowania prywatnego adresowanego do studentów zaczęły dynamicznie rozwijać się w tamtejszych miastach akademickich wskutek umasowienia szkolnictwa wyższego. Celem artykułu jest omówienie tych doświadczeń w kontekście polskim. Przedstawiono w nim zmianę populacji studentów w 18 dużych ośrodkach akademickich kraju oraz ich liczby i odsetka korzystającego z zakwaterowania oferowanego przez uczelnie. Wskazano, że między rokiem 2004 i 2014 populacja studentów uległa zwiększeniu w 10 spośród analizowanych ośrodków, a liczba i odsetek studentów zakwaterowanych w uczelnianych akademikach zmalały w 17 ośrodkach. W omawianej dekadzie polskie miasta akademickie mogły zatem doświadczyć wzrostu liczby studentów poszukujących zakwaterowania na rynku prywatnym.

The Polish University Abroad

The Polish University Abroad (PUNO) carried out a research aimed at analysis of the approach of young Polish immigrants living in the UK to the independence issues. The point was to identify the way people perceive the 100th anniversary of Polish independence. 191 people were surveyed – 62% of them were women and 38% were men. The majority of respondents were from 26 to 39 years old. Poland, to the respondents, seems to be related to: family, homeland and home. The image of Polish diaspora in the UK provides a lot of inspiration for further research about Poles and their attitude to most important national traditions.

W chwili obecnej serwis społecznościowy YouTube jest jednym z najważniejszych filarów współczesnej kultury i metakultury. Pojawił się w Stanach Zjednoczonych w 2005 roku. Współcześnie stanowi on potężne narzędzie, doskonale funkcjonujące w kulturze popularnej. Można powiedzieć, że YouTube jest już częścią głównego nurtu mediów. Wspomniany serwis wśród swoich licznych funkcji odgrywa m.in. rolę narzędzia edukacyjnego, źródła informacji oraz promocji i jako taki bywa również wykorzystywany przez biblioteki. Poruszony problem wiąże się ze zbadaniem rodzaju materiałów umieszczanych przez biblioteki w serwisie (gatunki i rodzaj treści). Istotne pytanie brzmi: jak polskie biblioteki transmitują siebie w eterze? Jakie narzędzia wykorzystują, do jakiej liczby osób dzięki temu trafiają? YouTube jest obszarem kultury uczestnictwa, warto więc zadać sobie również pytanie na ile serwis współtworzą użytkownicy omawianych bibliotek. Dla jakich odbiorców przeznaczone są określone treści i czy w związku z tym występują interakcje? Do badania wytypowano polskie biblioteki akademickie wg określonych kryteriów: miasta wojewódzkie, wielkość i typ uczelni. Omówiono również kwestię popularności określonych materiałów: najczęściej oglądane, ulubione, najczęściej komentowane. Istotny problem to obecność samodzielnych, oficjalnych kanałów bibliotecznych w serwisie oraz liczba ich subskrypcji, a także indywidualnych wyświetleń poszczególnych filmików zamieszczanych w kanale.
YouTube is now one of the most important pillars of modern culture and metaculture. It was founded in the USA in 2005 and since then has become a powerful tool of pop culture. Now YouTube is a part of mainstream media. This social networking site acts, among others, as an educational tool, a source of information and a way of promoting and advertising, and is used by libraries as such. In order to answer the issue discussed in the article, types of materials (types of content) that libraries put on the site need to be examined. An important question is: how do Polish libraries present themselves on the Internet? Which tools do they use and how many people do they find? YouTube is an area of participatory culture, therefore it would also be interesting to ascertain to what extent the site is co-created by the library users. To which group of users are specific contents addressed? Are there any interactions between a library and its users? The university libraries are chosen for the study according to the following criteria: the voivodship city, the size and type of university. Popularity of contents is also analyzed: the most often viewed, the most liked, the most commented. An important issue is the existence of autonomous, official library channels on the Internet, the number of their subscribers and the number of those who view specific materials.

W przeciągu ostatniej dekady polski system szkolnictwa wyższego i nauki został poddany serii reform radykalnie zmieniających jego stosunki z państwem. Jednocześnie znaczącej transformacji uległ jego wizerunek w strefie publicznej. W przebiegu debaty nad pożądanym kierunkiem reform, akademia – jej pracownicy, praktyki i formy instytucjonalne – zostały poddane silnej krytyce.   Celem tego artykułu jest opis mechanizmów zmian, jakie dokonały się w zakresie publicznej wiedzy i legitymizacji systemu szkolnictwa wyższego i nauki w potransformacyjnej Polsce. Analiza opiera się na badaniu materiałów prasowych pochodzących z „Gazety Wyborczej” i jej wydań lokalnych z lat 1989-2014. Efekty debaty publicznej obejmującej lata 2008-2014 są interpretowane, jako kryzys legitymizacji polskiego uniwersytetu, wymuszający przejście z tradycyjnego dla akademii trybu legitymizacji opartego na społecznym autorytecie, do racjonalnych form legitymizacji, opartych na precyzyjnej definicji produktów i silnie zapośredniczonej przez aparat państwowy.
Over the last decade the polish higher education and science sector experienced a series of policy changes that radically altered its relation with the state. In the course of a public debate concerning the new policies, the workers, practices and institutions of the university were criticized, which strongly influenced the image of the academic world in the public sphere. The aim of this paper is to describe mechanisms of change in public knowledge and legitimation of higher education and science sector in post-1989 Poland. The description is informed by a qualitative analysis of press content – “Gazeta Wyborcza” from 1989 to 2014. The effects of public debate that has taken place between 2008 and 2014 are described as a legitimation crisis of the polish university. This crisis forced university’s transition from a traditional, authority based mode of legitimation to a rational and pragmatic legitimation based on a precise, quantified definition of products offered by the schools, and highly reliant on the mechanisms of the state.

Initial discussions on the project of creating the Polish University Abroad were held as early as September 1939 in Switzerland. Decision was made to establish such an entity in Paris, with its headquarters at the Polish Library. Even before its inauguration, the University had been gathering information about Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors from the Polish universities, who managed to escape from occupied Poland, as well as those ones remaining in Poland. A list of 150 names of Professors and Associate Professors and about 80 Assistant Professors was created. In that academic year about 80 Professors and Associate Professors and 60 Assistant Professors from the Polish universities were in France. Documents le¡ by them show today all goals and tasks, of which present Polish University Abroad in London is the successor. e historical continuity of the university exists on three levels: sta, ideas and structure. Summarising and emphasising the words quoted by the Rector: „e founders of the Parisian university, who participated in further formation of PUNO in 1947, led their research and teaching activities both in Paris and then in London”. The ideological goals and ethos of the Polish University Abroad in Paris were closely related to the educational mission, which is even now: to represent all Polish universities and to maintain the continuity of the Polish higher education in the world. A¡er the Second World War it allowed Polish soldiers, their families, refugees and emigrants to continue or commence higher education in Polish outside of Poland as well as to develop scientific research and publish the results worldwide. PUNO mission now is to serve all generations of Poles who, outside their mother country or the land of their forebears, wish to continue their academic studies, broaden their knowledge of the contemporary world and maintain contact with Polish science and culture. The University’s aim is also to promote Polish science and culture in the UK and even further – worldwide, thanks to participation in global research projects. The Polish University Abroad in Paris had the Humanities, the Legal and the Economic Department. The first department established at the Polish University Abroad in London was the Humanities Department, followed by the Legal and the Economic ones. The Humanities Department was a leading department in Paris and remained such at the Polish University Abroad in London.

Opis:
Celem artykułu jest ukazanie — na podstawie wyników badań jakościowych prowadzonych metodą wywiadów pogłębionych online w 2021 r. — procesu podejmowania decyzji o wyborze polskiej uczelni publicznej przez studentów zagranicznych. Przedmiotem badań były anglojęzyczne studia International Marketing prowadzone przez Katedrę Marketingu Międzynarodowego i Dystrybucji na Uniwersytecie Łódzkim. Badaniami objęto głównie studentów z krajów byłego ZSRR, z naciskiem na studentów ukraińskich. Przedmiotem analizy były czynniki decydujące o wyborze uczelni zagranicznej, w tym także rola zewnętrznych firm rekrutacyjnych oraz pracowników Biura Współpracy z Zagranicą łódzkiej Uczelni. W badaniu stwierdzono wyraźną dominację roli marketingu szeptanego w podejmowaniu tego typu decyzji.
The aim of this paper is to provide an evidence-based picture — based on the results of qualitative research conducted in 2021 by means of in-depth interviews — of the decision making process of international students when choosing Polish public universities as a place where they want to study. The research focused on International Marketing course taught in English at the Department of International Marketing and Retailing at the University of Łódź. It covered mainly students from the former USSR countries, with an emphasis on Ukrainian students. The subject of the analysis was the factors behind the choice of a foreign university, including the role played by external recruitment agencies and the staff of the University of Łódź International Relations Office. A clear dominance was observed of the word-of-mouth marketing in making such decisions.
