Gospel of Mark, disciples, mission, the verb apostellō
Opis:
The Gospel of St Mark discusses two issues central to our understanding of Christian discipleship. On the one hand the Gospel tries to address the question of the identity of Jesus asking “who actually is he” (cf. Mk 8:27-30)? On the other hand the author strives to answer the dilemma of who is, or rather who should become, the disciple of Jesus? The aforementioned verb apostellō that can be translated “to send” is used in evangelist’s pursuit to characterize the ideal disciple.. This study is the first in the tetralogy of articles on the meaning of verb apostellō in the Gospel of Mark, in the context of Jesus’ disciples. This first article in the series analyses the meaning of this verb in Greek and Hebrew world -in the New Testament and in the writings of the Church Fathers. The second text will provide the analysis of the pericopes which employ the verb apostellō when referring to the disciples of Jesus (Mk 3:13-19, 6:7-13, 11:1-11, 14:12-16). The third study will investigate the circumstances of sending them out by Jesus on missions. Finally, the last article in the series will focus on the goals and the achievements of the disciples’ missions. It will also contain analytical summary that will reconstruct the meaning of the verb apostellō in the context of the entire Gospel of Mark.

Opis:
Te verb αποστέλλω appears on nearly twenty occasions in the Gospel according to Mark but only in four instances it is used in the context of sending out the disciples namely in the stories on: a. establishment of the Twelve (Mk 3,13-19), b. dispatching the disciples(Mk 6,7-13), c. solemn entry of Jesus to Jerusalem (Mk 11,1-11), and d. preparations for Passover (Mk 14,12-16). This article is focused on analyzing the above-listed perycopes, particularly where they use the verb αποστέλλω. Te analysis is based on the synchronistic method of approaching biblical text which breaks the analytical process into several stages such as: delimitation, textual criticism, structural determination and synoptic comparison.Te analysis of the four perycopes, presented in this article, is essential for developing subsequent parts of the planned series of articles, which is devoted to the meaning of the verb ἀποστέλλω, llw in the context of Jesus’ teachings in the Gospel According to Mark.

Opis:
The sub-sequence of Mt 4:12-25 concludes the first literary section of the Gospel of Matthew and introduces the Sermon on the Mount (Mt 5–7) and the narrative about the messianic works of Jesus (Mt 7–8). The exegetes recognize at least three episodes in this pericope (vv. 12-17; vv. 18-22; vv. 23-25), without considering, however, the possibility of reading them as a whole. The analysis by means of biblical and Semitic rhetoric (RBS) takes into consideration the composition of larger units of biblical text. As a result, it demonstrates that the literary unit in question and its three episodes serve as a mediator of a message for the entire dimension of Matthew’s Gospel.
