This article examines the representation of the environment in the Canti by Giacomo Leopardi. The author seeks to show the Leopardian environment as a place where history, nature and the cosmos intersect. The immensity and simultaneity of these three elements determines the way the lyric subject inhabits the world. Leopardi’s poetic focus is on his painful experience of the environment, which remains an indifferent and destructive agent. The poet deconstructs classical and romantic models of nature and culture by appealing to the aesthetics of the sublime, which unlike Kant is not the means of understanding but the way to experience the planetary character of existence.

The aim of the article is to analyze the motif of the river in the novel Il comandante del fiume by Ubah Cristina Ali Farah, which appears on three planes: the level of the myth, of the representation and of the literary device. The use of the river motif demonstrates its literary potential. Furthermore, the river con- firms that the two cultures involved in postcolonial literature yield a new quality due to the acceptance and inclusion of diversity. It also affirms the writer’s autonomy from both her Somali and Italian roots. Finally, the river is established as an indispensable element for the exposition and understanding of the theme dealt by this Bildungsroman.

Niniejszy artykuł jest swego rodzaju kontinuum poprzedniego, opublikowanego w Seminare 2018, t. 2. Tekst jest podzielony na trzy części: pierwsza to prezentacja Przedszkola w lesie w miejscowości Ostia Antica, które inspiruje się modelem Outdoor Education. Druga część zawiera natomiast swoistego rodzaju badania pogłębiające przeprowadzone na terenie tego przedszkola, mające na celu weryfikację istotnych elementów Outdoor Education. Trzecia część przedstawia zarówno psychofizyczne korzyści edukacji na wolnym powietrzu, jak i wyzwania społeczno-kulturowe stojące przed „szkołami w lesie”, zmierzające do ich upowszechnienia w kontekście włoskim. Wkład wielu autorów przeszłości, takich jak J.J. Rousseau, M. Montessori, R. Steiner i P. Freire, odradza się w tego typu propozycjach szkół we Włoszech, w Europie i w wielu krajach świata, dając istotny wkład w integralny rozwój dziecka.
This contribution is a kind of continuum of the previous paper, published in 2/2018 issue. The article is divided into three parts: the first contains a presentation of the “Asilo nel Bosco” of Ostia Antica (Kindergarten in the Forest), which draws upon the Outdoor Education model. The second part, in turn, presents the findings of an exploratory investigation conducted in this educational organization with the aim of verifying and highlighting the strengths of the methodology of Outdoor Education applied in the experience. Finally, the third part examines both the psychophysical benefits of outdoor education and the socio-cultural challenges to which schools in the forest are exposed in the Italian context. Contribution of many educators of the past, such as J. J. Rousseau, M. Montessori, R. Steiner and P. Freire, are tangibly re-emerging in schools in the woods in Italy, in Europe and around the world, creating one of the most precious opportunities for healthy development of the child.

The article focuses on the denunciation of the environmental catastrophe as the central hub of the late works of Andrea Zanzotto, from Haiku. For A Season, composed during the first half of the 1980s, to his latest book, Conglomerati (2009). Starting from the poet’s awareness of writing from within an unprecedented environmental crisis, the analysis aims to highlight the “ecological potential” of his poetry, the novelties it presents, after Idioma, moving ever more dramatically and paradoxically between the utopiaof the garden, as a symbol of harmony, and the infernal one of the forest, to indicate the degeneration of human action and its nefarious effects on the entire planet. Thus emerges the ability of this poet to transform his texts into pedagogical “planetary gardens”, in which to cultivate resistance strategies that are given within the same ecosystem. In conclusion, the article aims to underline how, in its late phase, Zanzotto’s poetry presents itself in the form of an “environmental humanism” that involves every living form and raises the need for a different way of inhabiting the earth in the times of the Anthropocene.

Niniejszy artykuł należy do nurtu pedagogiki, która promuje koncepcję edukacji zintegrowanej, przywiązując dużą wagę do warunków środowiskowych, które zwiększają rozwój dziecka, a w szczególności jego postrzeganie autonomii, wolności, kreatywności intelektualnej i aktywnej oraz zachowania prospołeczne. Propozycja powrotu człowieka do natury powiązanej z otaczającym go środowiskiem wydaje się szczególnie interesująca zarówno dla dzieci żyjących w środowiskach wiejskich, jak i dużych miast. Możliwość doświadczania osobistej, codziennej więzi z naturą staje się pozytywnym i prozdrowotnym doświadczeniem dziecka, podnoszącym jego dobrostan we wszystkich wymiarach rozwojowych.
The scope of the paper pertains to the area of pedagogy that promotes the concept of integrated education, at the same time giving high priority to the environmental conditions that enhance the child’s growth and, in particular, her/his autonomy, freedom, intellectual and active creativity as well as prosocial behaviour. The proposal to return to the roots that lie in human nature and in the surrounding environment, seems to us particularly interesting, both for children living in rural environments and those from big cities. Being able to develop a personal bond with nature becomes a child’s healthy and positive experience, exerting its influence on all dimensions of her/his overall development.

The essay aims to analyze the writings of Gianni Celati and his way of ‘re-narrating’ and ‘re-mapping’ the environment in contemporary times, focusing on two trilogies, namely Narratori delle pianure (1985), Quattro novelle sulle apparenze (1987) and Verso la foce (1989), as well as on the collections of short stories Un eroe moderno (2008), Il benessere arriva in casa Pucci (2008), and Selve d’amore (2013). The paper discusses how the themes addressed by the author, who assumes the role of a flâneur of postmod- ernism, are a way to express his continuous nostalgia for the naturalness, simplicity, and originality of living and narrating.

The paper examines La Foresta-Radice-Labirinto (1981), a fairy tale which is one of Italo Calvino’s latest and lesser known works. In what can be regarded as his testament, Calvino looks back on and revives the ecological commitment of his literary production and his attention to the complex relationship between nature and culture, which has been a prominent leitmotif of his writings (from The Baron in the Trees to The Cloud of Smog, and from the adventures of Marcovaldo to the Invisible Cities). The paper offers a detailed symbological and eco-critical analysis of the text, in order to examine an ‘ecology of mind’ as developed by Calvino, invariably sensitive to hybridisation and to the ongoing and often difficult relation between historical and environmental mutations. In doing so, the paper lists and explores the construction of images-icons and figures-types that make up what Calvino calls ‘a pedagogy of imagination’. The paper focuses on Calvino’s dedication to education through fairy tales as a primary form of experience, capable of conveying universal messages to a young readership, and on his longing for an authentic exposure to the environment, where getting lost means finding oneself and where chaos leads to a new order, founded on an ethical search for a more harmonious union of city, human beings and nature.
In questo articolo si prende in esame uno dei testi meno noti dello scrittore italiano Italo Calvino, ovvero la fiaba intitolata La foresta-radice-labirinto pubblicata nel 1981, che fa parte delle sue ultime opere. Si tratta di un testo, quasi testamentale, in cui l’autore ricapitola e rilancia la vocazione ecologica della sua produzione letteraria, nonché la sua attenzione verso i complessi rapporti tra natura e cultura, che egli aveva in precedenza affrontato come filo rosso della sua opera (dal Barone rampante alla Nuvola di smog, dalle avventure di Marcovaldo alle Città invisibili). Tramite una dettagliata analisi simbologica ed eco-critica di questa storia per l’infanzia, nel saggio si punta a seguire l’autore, sempre sensibile all’ibridazione e ad una relazione continua, spesso ‘difficile’, tra mutazioni storiche e difesa dell’ambiente, nel suo disegno di una ‘ecologia della mente’ che meglio si sintetizza nella costruzione di immagini-icone e di figure-tipo, elencate nel corso di questo studio, che costruiscono la cosiddetta ‘pedagogia dell’immaginazione’ calviniana. Il saggio ha lo scopo di far emergere il profilo di uno scrittore che, tramite la fiaba, intesa come forma primaria di esperienza, capace di veicolare messaggi universali, punta ad educare sin dalla più giovane età alla nostalgia di una autentica esposizione all’ambiente, dove il perdersi significa ritrovarsi e dove il caos porta in ‘dono’ un nuovo ordine, favorendo la ricerca etica e problematica di una unione, più armoniosa, tra città, uomo e natura.

The article presents a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the repertoire of Nasza Księgarnia, a more than 100-year-old Polish publishing house specialising in children’s and youngadult literature, in terms of informational books on nature and ecology. The study covers the years 2011–2021, as a clear increase in the number of such publications was observable all over the world in this period. The main trends in the development of informational books published by Nasza Księgarnia, their dominant themes, and their prevalent genres are identified. Two books on endangered and threatened species are qualitatively analysed by means of Nina Goga’s method as illustrative of the releases and trends under study.
Nell’articolo viene presentata un’analisi quantitativa e qualitativa del catalogo di “Nasza Księgarnia”, casa editrice polacca ultracentenaria specializzata in letteratura per bambini e ragazzi, dal punto di vista della presenza in esso di libri divulgativi su temi legati alla natura e all’ecologia. La ricerca riguarda gli anni 2011–2021, poiché in questo periodo in tutto il mondo si è potuta osservare una crescita di pubblicazioni di questo tipo. Osservando lo sviluppo dei libri di divulgazione editi da “Nasza Księgarnia”, ne sono stati definiti i temi e i generi dominanti. Infine due libri sulle specie in pericolo e in estinzione sono stati sottoposti ad un’analisi quantitativa in base al metodo di Nina Goga, in modo da visualizzare i trend presenti nei titoli presi in considerazione nello studio.
