Opis:
The great speech of the Protagoras (320c–328d) still leaves many questions open. Particularly striking is the presence of doctrines that later on will be taken up and further developed by Plato in such dialogues as the Politicus, the Timaeus and the Laws. For this reason, many scholars tend to think that the words of Protagoras are just a product of Plato’s invention that bear no relation to Protagoras’ actual doctrines. Nevertheless, it is possible to propose a different interpretation. At the beginning of the Protagoras (313a–314b), Socrates develops the image of the sophist as the merchant of various μαθήματα: to sell his products, the sophist praises them all indiscriminately without knowing which of them are useful and which are harmful. But he who has the ability to make this distinction can still purchase the μαθήματα from Protagoras or anyone else. Through the dialectic, Plato is able to examine them without any danger in the Protagoras and then take them up and further develop in new ways in his later dialogues.

Gospel according to Mark

identity of disciple
Mk 8
22-26
Opis:
The Gospel according to Mark strives after providing the answer to two fundamental questions who Jesus is and who his disciple should be. Thus, the Evangelist makes some attempts to depict the identity of Jesus emphasizing his being the Son of God (cfr. Mk 1:1; 15:39). What is more, setting the description of the road leading to Jerusalem in the centre of his literary work, the author of the gospel highlights the identity of the Jesus’ disciple, who is not always able to understand the one, who called him. The aim of this article is to present the way how the pericope about the cure of a blind man (Mk 8:22-26) is depicted in the dynamism of the whole gospel and how it corresponds with effort being made with the aim of answering the questions: who Jesus is and who his disciples should be. The text, which is written in accordance with the principles of synchronic analysis, is comprised of such sections: I  Introductory issues (distinguishing of the pericope as the whole; textual criticism; defining of the internal structure; synoptic comparison); II. Exegetical analysis; III. The significance of the pericope in the context of the whole Gospel; In the analysis of the cure of a blind man (Mk 8:22-26) the disciples are presented as those who seem to remain “outside” Christ mystery. The pericope corresponds perfectly with the fact that they possess eyes that do not see (cfr. Mk 8:18) and they do not yet understand (cfr. Mk 8:21). Not only does Jesus open the eyes of the blind man but also wants to open the eyes of his disciples. Two stages of healing reveal that regaining sight fully is preceded by the period of “shortsightedness” when the disciple has a vision but still blurred. He follows Jesus to Jerusalem, though, he does not understand who Jesus is. The moment when he completely opens his eyes and understands becomes possible in the context of the Paschal Mystery.

Opis:
The Gospel of St Mark discusses two issues central to our understanding of Christian discipleship. On the one hand the Gospel tries to address the question of the identity of Jesus asking “who actually is he” (cf. Mk 8:27-30)? On the other hand the author strives to answer the dilemma of who is, or rather who should become, the disciple of Jesus? The aforementioned verb apostellō that can be translated “to send” is used in evangelist’s pursuit to characterize the ideal disciple.. This study is the first in the tetralogy of articles on the meaning of verb apostellō in the Gospel of Mark, in the context of Jesus’ disciples. This first article in the series analyses the meaning of this verb in Greek and Hebrew world -in the New Testament and in the writings of the Church Fathers. The second text will provide the analysis of the pericopes which employ the verb apostellō when referring to the disciples of Jesus (Mk 3:13-19, 6:7-13, 11:1-11, 14:12-16). The third study will investigate the circumstances of sending them out by Jesus on missions. Finally, the last article in the series will focus on the goals and the achievements of the disciples’ missions. It will also contain analytical summary that will reconstruct the meaning of the verb apostellō in the context of the entire Gospel of Mark.
