The Polish-German border is perceived as a symbolic border in the post-war Polish-Germanrelations. In this paper, a lot of attention is devoted to this border in the crucial moments of the Polish-German-relations, such as the tense situation in Poland and former East Germany, political changes in 1989 and Poland joining the EU and Schengen Zone. My discussion concerning the symbolism of the Polish-German border is not limited only to the analysis of historical facts and events, but it also centers on the mentality of Germans and Poles, their mutual perception, sympathy and aversion. It turns out that the abolishing of the state borders seems to be much easier than the reduction of the mental barriers/borders existing between Poles and Germans.

The discourse on Polish-German relations is redefined after every event which shapes this discourse and makes it spectacular. Undoubtedly, the two events of division and unification of Germany co-create it. The attitude of Poles towards these events, taking into account the permanence of the border on the Oder and the Nysa rivers, had a great influence on the Polish-German relations in the years 1949-1990. This very issue is the major focus of the considerations in the present article.

Autorka nie tylko przybliża główne założenia Ethno-/Multikulti-Comedy, lecz również dokonuje szczegółowej analizy form językowych używanych w skeczach Yanara.
The article is devoted to the work of one of the leading representatives of German comedy scene, Kaya Yanar. In his Ethnic- and Multi-culture-Comedy, the Turkish-German comedian depicts customs and language of a multicultural society, with a particular focus put on the largest minority group in Germany, the Turks. The author presents the characteristics of the genre of Ethnic- /Multi-culture-Comedy and conducts a detailed analysis of linguistic structures used in Yanar’s sketches.

After the outbreak of the Thirteen Years‘ War there was created a certain kind of the Pomesan chancellery landscape. Its creation resulted from the tendency of various chancelleries to cooperate. The central point of the landscape was Marienburg’s [Polish: Malbork] chancellery of the Grand Master under the supervision of the clergyman and chancellor Andreas Santberg. He organized the manner of administering the written documentation with the help of public notaries, who had prepared the earliest files. The personal relations between the city chancelleries of the Monastic State and the Teutonic chancelleries may be noticed. The situation of the work of the chancellery during the Thirteen Years’ War was determined by extraordinary conditions. Preparing the registers of documents in the chancellery of the Grand Master was stopped. Instead of this, the number of drafts of documents increased. In the cities and towns which were most affected by the war events, it was hard to maintain the continuity in the production of documents. After the Grand Master moved to Königsberg, the preparations to set up a new registry office of the territorial ruler commenced. The chancellery’s personnel organized the administration of the documentations according to old models of the Sambian chancellery. One of the characteristic features of the German writing used during the war was the introduction of double sounds „nn” in the initial syllable and sometimes in the final syllable. After the conclusion of the Peace Treaty the process of the gradual secularization of the Grand Master’s chancellery could be observed. In the times of Friedrich von Sachsen educated lawyers were responsible for chancelleries following the models taken over from the Meissen motherland of the Grand Master. Under the rule of the margrave Albrecht people from Francophonie became trustworthy cooperators. They led to the gradual francisation of the language of the chancellery. Writing registers again became part of chancellery production. A new administration was created. Similar phenomena took place in case of writing production of the city chancelleries and other lay and church chancelleries at the end of the Teutonic period, which requires further research.

The Role of Concessive Connectors in the Scientific Texts Discourse The subject of the considerations of the article is the specificity of concessive relations expressed by the use of connectors in the texts of scientific discourse. The function of connectors is performed by linguistic structures, specifically by conjunctions, adverbs or particles whose aim is connecting both on the grammatical and semantic level of the text. My focus is on the semantic level whose concessive relation is not only the reflection of a specific acceptance or admission despite the existence of adversative factors. It is frequently a rhetorical device serving to express distance with which the author of the text refers to a certain stance or state of affairs.
Den Schwerpunkt von Erörterungen dieses Beitrags bilden sprachliche Strukturen, mit denen im Bereich wissenschaftlichen Schreibens die Konzessivverhältnisse zum Ausdruck gebracht werden. In der Funktion von Konnektoren, die innerhalb geschriebener Sprache als gewisse sprachliche Schemata im Kommunikationsverfahren dienen und sowohl auf der grammatischen und semantischen Ebene den Text kohärent machen, tauchen sowohl Konjunktionen, Adverbien, als auch Partikel auf. Mein Augenmerk richtet sich besonders auf die semantische Ebene, in der diese Strukturen bei der Realisierung bestimmter Intentionen der Sprecher, z. B. zum Ausdruck von Opposition oder Argumentation dienen. Weiterhin wird das Konzessivverhältnis zwecks Organisation der sozialen Interaktion auf der Textebene genutzt, bzw. als eine Strategie der Selbstsicherung des Autors im Diskurs durch Distanzhalten zu sehen ist.

Gerold Tietz was born in 1941 in Horka (north Bohemia) in a family of Sudeten Germans. Germans lived in this village together with Czechs, Roma people and Jews. The family also involved Czech relatives and many of German relatives spoke good Czech and kept relations with Czech cultural groups. After the war Gerold Tietz and his family were expelled to Swabia. He studied history, French and political science. From 1969 the graduated historian lived in Esslingen where he taught in the grammar school for thirty years. In the autobiographically oriented novels Böhmische Fuge (1997), Böhmisches Richtfest (2007) and in Böhmische Grätschen (2009) Tietz tried to depict official social-political events connected with famous political and cultural figures as well as the stories of ordinary days of “small people” who had to face the consequences of historic changes which influenced their lives. The paper analyses the conditions of Czech and German coexistence and confronts the authentic historic context. Nevertheless, negative features of these ethnic groups are not overlooked and the positive ones are presented as a positive contribution to the current European multiculturalism.

Seit dem Ende des Kalten Krieges ist es mit den deutsch-amerikanischen Beziehungen bergab gegangen. Dennoch sind beide Länder nach wie vor recht eng verbündet und werden dies trotz aller tagespolitischen Krisen auch weiterhin bleiben. Die starken Differenzen während der Regierungszeit George W. Bushs (2001–2009) und vor allem in der Trump-Ära (2017–2021) müssen als überaus schwierige Ausnahmejahre angesehen werden. Aller Voraussicht nach wird die Zusammenarbeit mit der sich seit dem Januar 2021 im Amt befindenden Joe Biden-Regierung erheblich besser und konstruktiver sein. Zurück zur Normalität könnte der Slogan für seine Außenpolitik heißen, einschließlich der üblichen transatlantischen Differenzen und Krisen, die sich auch während der Biden- -Jahre einstellen dürften.
Since the end of the Cold War German-American relations have gone downhill. Nevertheless, the two countries are still very closely allied and will continue to be so despite all the political crises of the day. The profound difficulties during the reign of George W. Bush (2001–2009) and especially in the Trump era (2017–2021) must be viewed as highly exceptional years. In all likelihood, cooperation with the Joe Biden administration, which has been in office since January 2021, will be significantly better and much more constructive. Back to normalcy could be the slogan for Biden’s foreign policy, though this will include the usual transatlantic crises and difficulties that are also likely to arise during the Biden years.
Od końca zimnej wojny stosunki niemiecko-amerykańskie ulegały stałemu pogorszeniu. Jednakże oba państwa są wciąż ściśle ze sobą powiązane sojuszniczo i ten stan rzeczy utrzyma się pomimo licznych współczesnych kryzysów politycznych. Kadencje George’a W. Busha (2001–2009), a zwłaszcza prezydenturę Donalda Trumpa (2017– 2021), podczas których pojawiły się głębokie różnice między sojusznikami, należy postrzegać w kategoriach wyjątkowych lat. Bardzo prawdopodobne jest, że współpraca z administracją Joe Bidena, który objął urząd prezydenta w styczniu 2021 r., będzie znacząco lepsza i o wiele bardziej konstruktywna. Idea powrotu do normalności to możliwe hasło polityki zagranicznej Bidena, chociaż nie obejdzie się zapewne bez typowych kryzysów transatlantyckich i trudności, które bez wątpienia pojawią się za prezydentury Bidena.

The article ‘Literary Finnish-German relations until 1918’ broaches less known and less frequently analysed aspects of literary and cultural contacts between Finland and Germany. First of all, the author brings into focus the development of the Finnish literary production in the 16th century. It took place in close connection with the Reformation, which reached Finland from Germany (especially Wittenberg) via Sweden. As a centre of learning, Germany drew most of the Finnish students who were to play a major role in the religious and cultural life of Finland. Among other were the Reformer Peder Särkilax and the bishop M. Agricola, the author of the first ABC-book in Finnish and the translator of the New testament. Second, the article emphasises that until the 19th century, it were the Fins who were influenced by the German literary achievements. After the publication of the Finnish literary epic ‘Kalevala’ in 1835–49, the direction of literary impulses changed. The articles and lectures of Jacob Grimm on Finnish literature (1845) generated avid interest in Germany, a tendency which has lived on ever since.

In Poland, the name Dagny is well-known because of the sad life and tragic death of the Norwegian wife of the famous and scandalising Polish-German fin de siécle writer Przybyszewski. But not many people know that she was a writer and poet herself, even if not a very prolific one. Her ouevre consists of four short plays, five poems in prose and a handful of poetry. The aim of this article is to analyse her plays and prose in respect of the relations between a man and a woman. Especially, I enquire if Juels work is only an expression of the literary conventions of her epoch, or if she gives her texts an unique (feminine) touch. I attempt to demonstrate that the latter is the case in her dramatic work and especially in her prose poetry.

Artykuł prezentuje polityczny i medialny proces formowania niemieckiej opinii publicznej na temat Federacji Rosyjskiej, który przybrał na sile po przyjęciu przez RFN nowej polityki wschodniej. Wraz z początkiem konfliktu ukraińsko-rosyjskiego i wprowadzeniem przez UE sankcji maszyna propagandowa Moskwy dotknęła wszystkie poziomy aktywności rosyjskiej w Niemczech. Ich analiza umożliwiła identyfikację tzw. Russlandversteher oraz instytucjonalnych form wzajemnych kontaktów, które mogły mieć wpływ na procesy decyzyjne rządu niemieckiego. Wymieniono również głównych aktorów lobbingu rosyjskiego, których popularność może modyfikować percepcję polityki rosyjskiej względem Ukrainy i UE.
The article presents the political and media process of the formation of the public opinion between Germany and the Russian Federation on the background of increasing the East-West crisis, especially taking into consideration the Neue Ostpolitik that Germany is following. With the beginning of the Ukraine-Russia conflict and after the western sanctions were imposed on Moscow, the Russia propaganda machine started to work on every political, economic and media level. The paper analyses its system and mechanism in the context of the dynamically changing international order. The author identifies the German Russlandversteher, defines the most active institutional forms of the German-Russia cooperation and economic contacts under the patronage of both governments that can have influence on decision process of the German government. To the most important actors in the Russian lobbying belong German political parties, representatives of the German world of culture, art, media, whose popularity can modify the perception of the Russian politics against the Ukraine and the European Union.

Opis:
Bildern kommt eine beträchtliche Rolle sowohl in der Alltagskommunikation als auch in medialen Texten zu. In diesem Beitrag stehen ausgewählte Typen von Bildern und ihre Relationen mit dem Text im Vordergrund, wobei das Korpus der Untersuchung Pressetexte aus deutschen Titeln der Regenbogenpresse bildet. Dabei wird davon ausgegangen, dass Bilder als eine Kommunikationsform in gewisser Hinsicht eindeutiger und auch bequemer sind sowie sich durch eine größere informativ-persuasive und visuelle Kraft als Wörter und Texte kennzeichnen. In der Studie wird die Regenbogenpresse auf die Präsenz und Verwendung von Bildern hin untersucht.
An extraordinary role is assigned to images not only in everyday communication, but also in media texts. The focus of this article is on selected types of images and their relationships with texts. The corpus of the study is comprised of press texts from selected glossy magazines. The starting point is an argument that images as forms of communication are in a certain sense more unambiguous and more convenient in some situations and have greater information-persuasive and visual potential than texts. Starting from this assumption, the article attempts to analyze glossy magazines in regard of presence and usage of images.
