Opis:
Water hyacinth (WH) biomass is one of the popular materials in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta, a potential substrate for biogas production. The effectiveness of utilizing WH for producing biogas under anaerobic digestion was demonstrated in the previous studies, but the research was focused on the loading rate of about 1.0% volatile solid (VS). Therefore, in the present study, a semi-continuous anaerobic digestion experiment was conducted with the five levels of VS, including 1.0%VS, 1.5%VS, 2.0%VS, 2.5%VS, and 3.0%VS, to examine how loaded VS can affect biogas production. Each treatment was designed with three replications over 60 days. The measured parameters included pH, temperature (Temp; °C), redox potential (Eh; mV), daily produced biogas volume (L), cumulative biogas volume (L), and methane (CH4) concentration (%) during the 60 days of the experiment. The obtained results showed that pH, tempt, and Eh parameters did not negatively affect biogas production. However, the volume of daily biogas in the treatment of 3.0%VS was higher than in other treatments. In addition, the cumulative biogas volume in the treatment of 3.0%VS was the highest and significantly different between all reactors (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the treatment of 1.0%VS was known with the lowest values. The study explored that the volume of biogas could be increased when the organic loading rate VS is increased.

The use of disposable diapers is increasing every year, increasing generated diaper wastes every year. In Surabaya, diaper wastes have become an important issue when they are not treated properly. These diaper wastes will end up in water bodies and cause pollution. One of the technologies that can be used to treat diaper wastes is composting. Disposable diaper wastes consist of high lignocellulose and C content. It is necessary to mix diaper wastes and other wastes with high N content as a co-substrate, so that the optimum C/N ratio of composting can be achieved. In this research, vegetables wastes were used. The Objective of the research was to determine the effect of vegetable wastes adding as a co-substrate in composting of disposable diapers and volatile solid (VS), C-organic, and Total Nitrogen (TN) content changed during the composting process. The research was carried out with three variables mixtures of diaper wastes and vegetable wastes. Two control consist of 100% diaper wastes and 100% vegetables wastes. The Total weight of raw materials was 10 kg for each reactor. The composting process is carried out aerobically with a composting time of 60 days. The results showed that vegetable wastes have the potential to be used as a co-substrate for diaper wastes. The content of C-organic, VS and total nitrogen decreased. All of the parameters include C/N ratio meet the Indonesian Standard of compost.

Opis:
Frozen pears, obtained by repeated freezing and thawing under cold outdoor conditions in winter, are very popular in northeast China. The effects of three freeze-thaw cycles (FT1–FT3) on Nanguo pear flavor were studied under fast (−80°C) and slow (−20°C) freezing conditions. Significant differences were found in the flavor of Nanguo pear after subsequent freeze-thaw cycles. The total soluble solid (TSS) content of fresh pear was 14.17 g/100 g and increased significantly after the first freeze-thaw cycle to 17.57–18.17 g/100 g. Lower TSS content was found in pears after the repeated freeze-thawing process. Citric acid was determined as the main organic acid of Nanguo pear. Its content and the overall content of organic acids decreased successively after each freezing and thawing cycle. The electronic tongue analysis results showed that the sourness of fresh pears generally decreased after their repeated freezing and thawing, that the odor of Nanguo pear changed significantly after freeze-thaw cycles, and that nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons were the most differentiating odor compounds. The content of ethyl caproate was the highest in the volatile compound profile of the Nanguo pear and ranged from 377.26 to 526.77 μg/kg. In short, after repeated freezing and thawing, the changes in the chemical composition impart the frozen pear a unique flavor.

Opis:
The oil bearing rose (Rosa damascena) is the most important rose species in terms of fragrances and flavourings. Due to the very short blooming period and excessive amount of flowers, considerable amount of the rose flowers wait for a long time until distillation. There are losses of essential oil yield and quality use of before waited petals. The cold storage and drying applications may be alternative method for evaluate of excessive amount of flowers. Therefore in this study it was aimed to determine the effects of storage on cold (4°C) and room condition (25°C) and convective drying with different temperatures (40, 50 and 60°C) in terms of changes in volatile compositions of oil rose flowers based on direct hexane extraction. Totally 20 volatile compounds were identified in fresh, stored and dried rose petals. The detected compounds varied according to the various storage and drying conditions. It was determined that phenylethyl alcohol, citronellol, geranyl acetate, nonadecane were predominant compounds on all treatments. In the study, storing treatments led to increase on the percentage of oxygenated monoterpenes (OM) while drying treatments led to decrease on OM. It was determined that storing and drying treatments led to increase on the percentage of benzenoid compounds (BC) and aliphatic hydrocarbons (AH).
W niniejszym badaniu przechowywanie spowodowało wzrost utlenionych monoterpenów (OM), natomiast suszenie prowadziło do spadku OM. Stwierdzono, że zabiegi przechowywania i suszenia prowadzą do wzrostu zawartości składników benzenoidowych (BC) oraz węglowodorów alifatycznych (AH).

Opis:
This paper presents the results of investigations on the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from oak wood surfaces finished with acrylic waterborne lacquers. The lacquers selected for the experiments were characterised by a different content of solids, fluctuating between 32 and 38%. The volatile organic compounds were analysed using a gas chromatography technique combined with mass spectrometry and thermal desorption (GC/MS/TD). Tenax TA was employed as an adsorption medium. The obtained results indicate that volatile organic compound emissions from the experimental waterborne lacquers varied widely from 388 to 1794 μg/m3. The most important constituents of emissions included compounds that belonged mainly to glycol ethers as well as aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons.
