Opis:
The first-order autoregressive model with uniform innovations is considered. The approximate bias of the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of the parameter is obtained. Also, a formula for the approximate bias is given when a single outlier occurs at a specified time with a known amplitude. Simulation procedures confirm that our formulas are suitable. A small sample case is considered only.

Opis:
In this paper, we studied estimators based on an interval shrinkage with equal weights point shrinkage estimators for all individual target points θ¯ ∈ (θ0, θ1) for exponentially distributed observations in the presence of outliers drawn from a uniform distribution. Estimators obtained from both shrinkage and interval shrinkage were compared, showing that the estimators obtained via the interval shrinkage method perform better. Symmetric and asymmetric loss functions were also used to calculate the estimators. Finally, a numerical study and illustrative examples were provided to describe the results.

Opis:
Faults in the power system are major cause of voltage sag. Voltage sag in the power system due to fault can be symmetrical or unsymmetrical. For sensitive loads it is necessary to estimate how many times in year the voltage at their terminal will experience sag to avoid tripping of operation. Several stochastic methods for estimation of number of sags are developed in recent years. In different methods of sag prediction there is need to do lengthy programming or calculations. Here PSCAD/EMTDC software package is used to estimate number of sag with uniform distribution of faults along the lines.

The penetration of a shaped charge jet with non-uniform density distribution was studied. The virtual origin model, which assumes a constant jet density, was modified to include the situation where the jet density deficit/reduction of an un-sintered copper-tungsten powder jet causes a non-uniform jet density distribution. A relation between the relative density ratio and the normalised jet velocity is proposed, based on which an analytical solution of the modified virtual origin model is obtained. The validity of the modified virtual origin model was demonstrated by its largely improved prediction in comparison with experimental and numerical results. It showed that the density reduction term reduces the penetration depth by 16.58% for an un-sintered copper-tungsten powder jet.

Let X1,X2, . . . ,Xn be independent random variables drawn from the uniform distribution on [0, 1]. A decision maker is shown the variables sequentially and, after each observation, must decide whether or not to keep the current one, with payoff being the overall rank of the selected observation. Decisions are final: no recall is allowed. The objective is to minimize the expected payoff. In this note we give the explicit solution to this problem, known as Robbins' problem of optimal stopping, when n = 4.

This value is one of the major factors affecting the grooves wear during the rolling process. The studies were carried out based on the actual engineering data for 160 × 160 mm square cross-section feedstock of steel S355J0. Numerical modelling of the rolling process was performed using Forge2008®, a finite-element based computer program.

Opis:
Image classification refers to an important process in computer vision. The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel approach named GGD-GMM and based on statistical modeling in wavelet domain to describe textured images and rely on number of principles which give its internal coherence and originality. Firstly, we propose a robust algorithm based on the combination of the wavelet transform and Scale Invariant Feature Transform. Secondly, we implement the aforementioned algorithm and fit the result using the finite mixture gamma distribution (GMM). The results, obtained for two benchmark datasets, show that the proposed algorithm has a good relevance as it provides higher classification accuracy compared to some other well known models see (Kohavi, 1995). Moreover, it shows other advantages relied to Noise-resistant and rotation invariant.

Opis:
Existing scientific studies devoted to the design of eddy-current probes with a priori given configuration of the electromagnetic excitation field, which provide a uniform eddy current density distribution, consider a wide class of such, but are limited to the case when the probe is stationary relative to the testing object. Therefore, the actual problem is the synthesis of moving tangential eddy current probes with a frame excitation system that provides a uniform eddy current density distribution in the testing object, the solution of which is proposed in this study. A mathematical method for nonlinear surrogate synthesis of excitation systems for frame moving tangential surface eddy current probes, which implements a uniform eddy current density distribution of the testing zone object, is proposed. A metamodel of the volumetric structure of the excitation system of the frame tangential eddy current probe, applied in the process of surrogate optimal parametric synthesis, has been created. The examples of nonlinear synthesis of excitation systems using modern metaheuristic stochastic algorithms for finding the global extremum are considered. The numerical results of the obtained solutions of the problems are presented. The efficiency of the synthesized structures of excitation systems in comparison with classical analogs is shown on the graphs of the eddy current density distribution on the object surface in the testing zone.

Opis:
From Albert Einstein’s study (1905) it is known that suspension introduced to a fluid modifies its viscosity. We propose to describe the influence of obstacles on the Stokesian flow as a such modification. Hence, we treat the fluid flow through small obstacles as a flow with suspension. The flow is developing past the plane bottom under the gravity force. The spatial distribution of suspension concentration is treated as given, and is regarded as an approximation of different obstacles which modify the fluid flow and change its viscosity. The different densities of suspension are considered, beginning of small suspension concentration until 40%. The influence of suspension concentration on fluid viscosity is analyzed, and Brinkman’s formula as fitting best to experimental data is applied.
