One of the major issues with freight carriage is choosing the ideal mode of transport. This is no different for transporting cargos in maritime trading, where the land section of the transport route may be accomplished by inland shipping, provided sufficient transport infrastructure exists. This article presents the results of a study on the demand for inland shipping to and from the seaports of Szczecin and Świnoujście. The research study was carried out in 2017 by applying demoscopic methods. Interviews were conducted with major cargo shippers involved in maritime trading based within the Oder Waterway corridor who import/export over 10,000 tonnes of cargo per year. The interviews made it possible to obtain information on the most important factors considered by individual cargo shippers while organizing their transport processes. In addition to identifying the determinants themselves and to specify their nature, the study also indicated the positive and negative consequences of each determinant on the modal shift to inland shipping. The research in this study showed that a key role was played by determinants connected with the characteristics of carried cargoes, features of a given transport mode, and financial consequences of choosing a certain transport solution. An important factor was also the characteristics of the cargo shippers declaring the demand for transport, as well as changes in the cargo structure and the directional structure of foreign trade.

This article presents the results of the analysis and assessment of the effect on transport of programs supporting housing investments in the context of transport demand management. The evaluation of the presented programs confirms the dependence of inconsistent spatial planning policy and the growth of transport needs. The effects of the programs have been analyzed in detail. The article shows in a case study form that investment decisions directly affect communication behavior and changes in the demand for transport in Bielsko-Biała. It also presents the analysis and evaluation of the results of the author's studies (own research). These studies included knowledge and behaviors that generate demand for city transport. Analysis of these data allows to conclude that there is no simple relationship between the level of knowledge of travelers about their impact of congestion and shaping the demand for transport, and their balanced behavior in the context of urban mobility - statistical dependence is irrelevant. Numerous experiments show that both factors, transport policy and awareness of social causes in transport problems, have a very strong effect on the demand for transport. The analysis of this research is another argument that justifies the strong need to build and develop a consistent policy in this area.

Purpose: In today's urban mobility landscape, the increasing number of cars trying to park in the city center is one of the most burdensome problems facing urban transport. Knowing about the impact that individual parking space management strategies and methods - including parking solutions and pricing systems - can have on the efficiency of the urban transport system, may be of key importance for the selection of solutions in this area. This knowledge is the main goal of my research. Design/methodology/approach: The observations and research presented in this article took place in Bielsko-Biala. As part of the research, the effectiveness of actions implementing the city's parking policy was analyzed. The scope of these activities included, first of all, parking fees and the organization of the so-called parking zones in the city. In the case of parking fees, the effectiveness of parking fees was analyzed. The research was mainly a case study. It also had elements of quantitative research - a questionnaire. The effectiveness of parking fees was assessed on the basis of official and up-to-date data on parking fees and the analysis of the ability (ATP) and readiness (WTP) to pay parking fees by their users. Findings: This article presents the way in which regulations, including parking fees in the center and suburbs of Bielsko-Biala, influenced the demand for parking space and thus the mobility of the city's inhabitants. Practical implications: The results presented in the article are the basis for making practical decisions regarding the necessary regulations - in the perspective of the increase in demand for transport in downtown areas - related to parking space. This, in turn, may increase the share of public transport in the transport structure. Originality/value: The available results of empirical research on the relationship between the parking strategy and transport congestion and its consequences are very poor, while the research itself is often hampered by the lack of data systematically collected before and after the introduction of new tools or changes to the already used parking space management tools. The publication analyzes the data collected at the time when new or modified functioning elements of the municipal transport policy were implemented in the city. Indirectly, the author of the article presents evidence for the thesis that negative actions, such as raising parking fees, only allow for limited in time and space effects of actions related to reducing the demand for transport.

The main subject of this research was to identify recent basic trends in the development of inland waterway transport in the EU as well as to evaluate this from both EU transport policy objectives and logistics markets’ requirements. For this purpose, classical statistical and economic analysis methods as well as the documentation research method were used. The basic threats and barriers to the development of inland waterway transport are indicated, as well as various actions necessary to limit or eliminate them. An attempt was also made to assess the opportunities and prospects for the development of this transport mode in the next decade in the context of the development of the broader EU transport market. The main objective of this research was to perform a market assessment of the development prospects of this mode of transport in the era of dynamic developing logistic customer service standards, as well as progressive globalization and the 4th industrial revolution (digitalization). In this respect, political versus market-oriented scenarios of the development of EU inland shipping were analyzed and evaluated. The conclusions relate to the ongoing and upcoming modal shift on the EU transport market as well as regulatory measures undertaken by the EU.

Analiza istniejących metod modelowania popytu pozwala na zdefiniowanie przedziałowego podejścia do obliczania macierzy podróży jako preferowanego do określania popytu w publicznym transporcie. Podejście to uwzględnia probabilistyczną naturę formułowania relacji „dom – praca”, które powodują, że pewne podróże mają jednakowe długości. Taka regularność długości tych podróży może być uwzględniona w rozkładzie częstotliwości, która staje się bazą do rozważań nowego podejścia do obliczeń macierzy podróży. Takie podejście pozwala na uzyskanie przedziałów możliwych wskaźników jakości obsługi w miastach na Ukrainie.
The analysis of existing methods of transport demand modeling allowed defining the interval approach to trip matrix calculation as a preferred one to determine demand for public transport services. This approach takes into account the probabilistic nature of forming the ‘home– work’ pairs that cause regular trips over certain distances. The regularities in these trip distances can be presented by trip length frequency distribution that became the basis for developing a new approach to the trip matrix calculation. This approach allows obtaining the intervals of possible indices of passenger service quality in Ukrainian cities.

Public transportation provides its services to both urban centers and neighboring areas in the immediate vicinity of the city. The problem of urban transportation is evident, the number of people willing to use public transportation has decreased. Therefore, there is a need to delve into the issue and conduct an analysis of the demand for urban transportation in Poland in 2000-2030, this will allow us to assess in what direction urban transportation is heading, whether there is an increase in the number of people using it, or whether there is a downward trend (Zielińska 2018). Based on CSO statistics from 2009-2020 for the analysis of demand for public transportation in Poland, a forecast of people using public transportation was conducted using Statistica software for 2021-2030. Due to the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, the study was conducted in 2 ways – with and without 2020. Public transportation will make less and less profit and even losses for the next few years through rising gasoline and energy prices. Virtually in each of the provinces, and likewise throughout Poland, a decline in the number of people willing to use public transportation is evident. conclusions. On the basis of the surveys carried out, there is a general trend that shows the current state of public transport. In most of the cases studied, a similar conclusion emerges, namely that public transport will experience a marked decline in the coming years. The number of people who want to use public transport will decrease, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and people’s fears for their own safety.

Will be considered transport company exploiting the uniform in the sense of destination, means of transport such as tankers, with a total transport potential equal to a loading units (e.g. tones). The company operates in the transport market, where demand for transport services is random. The problem of fitting the transport potential of a transport company to the demand for such services is formulated. As measure of this fit assumes that the probability of a firm's transport potential is not being exceeded by demand over the given time horizon. Practically useful formulas for estimating such probability for cases where demand for transport services is described by stationary and non-stationary normal stochastic processes. The results are illustrated by numerical examples.

This research develops an urban travel demand model for 19 directional O-D city-pair from Owerri Urban. Using revealed preference data from the period of 2014 to 2016 operated by sixteen transport companies in Owerri, Imo State. Other empirical findings include that; overall fares elasticities are low, so that increases in fare levels will almost always lead to increases in revenue. An empirical model to assess the viability of intercity passenger transport operation in Nigeria was formulated. This study will help the operators in business to do a sensitivity analysis based of changes in the intercity passenger travel markets in Nigeria.

In the transport market, public transport is an important place for passenger transport. The proper functioning of collective urban transport in cities is becoming increasingly important in relation to the growing demands of travelers, whose satisfaction and content should be met. The paper presents the elements of the transport process and analysis of factors determining the demand for public transport services on the example of Rzeszów and neighboring municipalities. Ensuring sustainable development of public transport contributes, inter alia, to reducing emissions and is the most effective way of protecting the environment in the city.
Na rynku usług transportowych ważne miejsce w zakresie przewozu osób zajmuje publiczny transport zbiorowy. Właściwe funkcjonowanie zbiorowego transportu miejskiego w miastach nabiera obecnie dużego znaczenia względem rosnących wymagań ze strony podróżnych, których satysfakcja oraz zadowolenie powinny być zaspokojone. W pracy przedstawiono elementy procesu transportowego oraz analizę czynników determinujących popyt na usługi komunikacji miejskiej na przykładzie Rzeszowa i gmin ościennych. Zapewnienie zrównoważonego rozwoju publicznego transportu zbiorowego przyczynia się między innymi do obniżania emisji spalin i jest najbardziej efektywnym działaniem ochrony środowiska w mieście.

The study aims to estimate the air travel demand forecast for domestic passengers' travels in Nigeria from 2002-2016. Data resourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the National Bureau of Statistics, and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria. The study utilized a multiple regression model using a Stata-Graphic software solver to analyze the data. From the analysis, the result shows that there is a significant relationship between the explanatory variable (passengers) and unexplanatory variables National Disposable Income, Population, Average Airfare, Gross Domestic Product, Exchange Rate, Total Expenditure, and Crude oil price, accounted for adjusted R of 93.624% relationship with demand for domestic air travel of passenger. The R-square statistic shows that the fitted model explains the variability in the number of passengers (NPAX), which is 96.8124%. The Hypothesis testing reveals that National Disposable Income and Airfare have a strong statistically significant relationship with the demand for domestic air travel with a P-value of 0.0013. Mores, a statistically significant relationship exists between National Disposable Income, Average airfare, and Crude oil price with P-values of 0.0017 and 0.0445, respectively. Furthermore, a forecast of the number of passengers and average airfare was carried out using ARIMA (1,0,0) model, which made available the future predicted values for the number of passenger movements and average airfare for the next 10-12 years to come. Thus, the study recommends that stakeholders in the air transport sector should work towards improving the capacity and infrastructure to accommodate the growth of air travel demand for domestic air travel in Nigeria. Policy implications were made on regulating the sector by having a good pricing policy to control the air fare for the industry.

In general, transport companies have an unimportant role in the business market, in order to achieve the required sales and the related profit. Competition in road transport is great and enforcement from a large number of carriers is considerable. It is the price for the transport of goods that plays the most important role how to get the carrier and the customer who wants the lowest transport price. On the contrary, the carrier would like to get the highest amount for the shipment. A compromise between these two requirements should form the required shipping price. Pricing involves a factor other than costs, the attractiveness of the transport destination, in terms of the possibility of return utilization the vehicle. The aim of the paper is to verify the hypothesis, that the cost of transport is affected not only by the carrier's costs, but also the target destination of the ordered shipment.

This article presents the concept of transportation demand management (TDM) in the EU transport policy context. Authors present the source of transport intensity problems and also show good practices that effectively reduce the transport demand. To identify the major transportation demand problems that cities are faced with, primary and secondary research was carried out. Primary research shows the social awareness of mobility management. Secondary research consists of a thorough review of the existing literature on transport problems faced by cities. From this view, it is clear that transport in relation to the length of the roads in Poland is one of the highest in Europe. This paper also indicates that the current urban policies are often the main causes of suburbanization.

The problem presented in this article concerns the impact of demand characteristics for consumer goods on the profitability of purchasing strategy, including the choice of both the source of supply and transport technology (deliveries in containers by sea, rail, air, and road transport). To assess the profitability of applying a specific strategy, the author developed a model to conduct simulations using the Monte Carlo approach for two demand distributions (Gaussian and Gamma), various sales fluctuations, and changes in demand during the delivery time. Calculations were carried out considering the costs of transport, storage, capital costs related to maintaining stocks, and costs of lost sales. The simulation results show that the greater the fluctuations and the lower the predictability of the demand, the greater the profitability of deliveries using air transport and local deliveries. However, concrete decisions depend on knowledge of the consequences of making these decisions and whether appropriate cost accounting is used in enterprises. The results of the calculations also indicate that the strategy of outsourcing production in low-cost countries will, in many cases, become unprofitable if production costs in these countries increase even slightly.

Kluczem do planowania systemów publicznego transportu jest dokładne przewidywanie obciążenia ruchem, a to wymaga dobrze funkcjonujących metod przydziału i wiarygodnych danych o pasażerach (tj. zależnych od czasu macierzy OD). Brak jest dobrej metody oszacowania estymatora macierzy źródło-cel w zakresie miejskiego transportu publicznego. Trzy lata temu autorzy opublikowali w TRA2010metodę, która rozwiązuje ten problem. Ponieważ wspomniana metoda była możliwa do stosowania tylko po spełnieniu pewnych poważnych ograniczeń, autorzy szukali innej bardziej praktycznej metody. Nowo opracowana iteracyjna metoda wykorzystuje pełen zakres przekrojowych danych i przykładową macierz źródło-cel, aby otrzymać mnożniki do korekty przykładowej macierzy źródło-cel i pomaga skalibrować macierz. W artykule opisano niektóre poprzednie prace na ten temat, aby pokazać brak metod estymacji macierzy. Teoria procesów będzie opisana w następnej kolejności. The key to planning public transport systems is the accurate prediction of the traffic load which requires a well-functioning assignment method and a reliable passenger data (i.e. time-dependent OD matrix). There is a lack of well working origin-destination matrix estimator methods in the field of urban public transport. Three years ago the authors already published a method at TRA2010 to solve this problem. As the mentioned method was applicable with heavy constraints only, the authors sought after a new, more practicable method. The newly developed iterative method uses full scope cross-section data and a sample origin-destination matrix to produce multipliers to correct the sample origin-destination matrix and to help the calibration of the matrix. The paper describes some previous research papers in this topic, to show the lack of such a matrix estimation method. The theory of the process will be detailed in the following part. In the closing section a test and real network’s experiences will be shown.
