Opis:
System-based research remains an important yet usually outdated and internally contradictory approach in political science and international relations. Based on concepts borrowed from physiology, cybernetics, and general system theory, the system-based approach popularised in the 1960s was cast away as outdated and ill-focused. Despite those systems, the theory was developed in natural sciences, eventually creating a paradigm more applicable to domestic and international politics. The weakest element of past systems (like the one proposed by D. Easton) was that they did not allow for a sudden and catastrophic transformation and lacked emergence. This paper aims to present a model that would allow for the system’s ordinary and catastrophic transformation. The complex adaptive system features were defined using relevant literature on a paradigm of complexity. Connecting it with the propositions of D. Easton, R. Axelrod, and M. Cohen, as well as R. Jervis, such a model was constructed. The theoretical introduction is supplanted with a general case study of the early phases of the Arab Spring in Tunisia. The model mirrors the complex systems’ dynamics, considering the agent-structure problem.

The detailed algorithm of SSARV(P) – Safety System Analysis of Rail Vehicles is presented in this paper. Particular steps of SSARV(P) take into account the selected rules of LOPA – Layer of Protection Analysis. SSARV(P) is an overall method of SSARV provided for conceptual phase of safety system. The essence of SSARV(P) is to evaluate the proposed safety system based on measures of hazard risk. The measure of hazard risk is determined using known risk models. This paper presents also a description of LOPA and its general algorithms. Basic information about the independent layers of protection are presented as well.

Opis:
Decomposition is the best method to analyze complicated systems. The whole system is divided into a set of smaller parts, i.e. subsystems. These items are connected to each other by input and output interfaces. Every subsystem could be analyzed using separate algorithms and procedures that are more suitable for solving the local task. In the article, a complicated electrical system is decomposed and the interaction decoupling mode is used to coordinate the local task solution. Each of the first–level subsystems, such as an optimization problem, is defined completely independently from the other problems. The subsystems are instructed to select the local input as well as the local interface output in an optimal fashion. The local task's solution depends not only on the internal subsystems’ parameters, but on the value of interfaces too. To achieve the global task solution, local tasks have to be coordinated using an appropriate coordination principle.

System analysis as scientific and engineering discipline underpins research and development in other areas. However, system analysis models and methods are often taught separately and, as a result, system analyst cannot form a holistic understanding of this area. In order to deepen our understanding of system analysis’ concepts and relations the ontology of this area was built. It was constructed based on models and methods of system analysis considered as knowledge patterns. The concept of system was selected as a central concept of ontology. Other important concepts, such as goal, function, decision and process are relating to it. Finally, the applications of created system analysis ontology for teaching system analysis in high school and as a part of semantic grid are discussed.

The paper is devoted to some problems connected with last modification of EU directive on energy efficiency, viz.: free choice of the measure concerning the improvement of energy efficiency, i.e. final or primary energy consumption, corresponding energy savings or energy-consumption index; however without cumulative consumption or cumulative savings of primary energy. In EU directive it has been stressed the importance of measurements systems (reliable measurement information); but has not been recommended any advanced validation of measurements results, nor energy auditing or algorithms of calculating the energy savings due to improvement of energy efficiency concerning large industrial plants. Evaluation of complex buildings should be realized by means of the system method (input-output analysis). The separate problem is devoted to application of thermo-ecological approach in the analysis of complete results of improving the energy efficiency. Human activity is connected with the depletion of nonrenewable resources, including primary energy, due to not only production of consumer goods but also the necessity of compensating the unfavourable effects of harmful emissions from energy-technological processes. Therefore the index of energy-ecological efficiency has been proposed as the most competent evaluation of improvement energy efficiency of production processes and systems.

Opis:
In the paper an application of a time-frequency signal analysis technique for modal parameters identification is presented. Procedures of wavelet filtering, which allow estimating mechanical parameters for systems with non-constant parameters have been shown. The wavelets are used to detect natural frequency of the system and transform system time response into the time-scale domain. Presented method has been verified on simulation data for a two degrees of freedom discrete system. Two cases have been considered, with a constant and with a varying damping. The procedure has been applied to a real data recorded during a flight of ISKRA airplane.
W artykule przedstawiono możliwość zastosowania transformaty falkowej do identyfikacji parametrów modalnych układów mechanicznych. Pokazano procedury filtracji falkowej pozwalającej na wyznaczanie parametrów dynamicznych układów wykazujących niestacjonarność. Metodę zweryfikowano na danych symulacyjnych dla układu o dwóch stopniach swobody ze zmiennym tłumieniem. Opracowaną metodę zastosowano do badania zmian tłumienia w czasie lotu samolotu ISKRA.

Measurement system analysis is a comprehensive valuation of a measurement process and characteristically includes a specially designed experiment that strives to isolate the components of variation in that measurement process. Gage repeatability and reproducibility is the adequate technique to evaluate variations within the measurement system. Repeatability refers to the measurement variation obtained when one person repeatedly measures the same item with the same Gage, while reproducibility refers to the variation due to different operators using the same Gage. The two factors factorial design, either crossed or nested factor, is usually used for a Gage R&R study. In this study, the focus is only on the nested factor, random effect model. Presently, the classical method (the method of analysing data without taking into consideration the existence of outliers) is used to analyse the nested Gage R&R data. However, this method is easily affected by outliers and, consequently, the measurement system’s capability is also affected. Therefore, the aims of this study are to develop an identification method to detect outliers and to formulate a robust method of measurement analysis of nested Gage R&R, random effect model. The proposed methods of outlier detection are based on a robust mm location and scale estimators of the residuals. The results of the simulation study and real numerical example show that the proposed outlier identification method and the robust estimation method are the most successful methods for the detection of outliers.

Opis:
The quality of the roadway has a significant impact on the ability of drivers to drive their vehicles. Violation of the integrity of the coating, its geometrical parameters (shape), and the condition of the surface of the coating adversely affect the behavior of drivers, does not allow for correct driving of the vehicle, and leads to the occurrence of traffic accidents of varying severity. The current problem in the implementation of road construction works is to increase the level of automation of construction equipment and increase the accuracy of profiling. The article considers the main types of leveling systems, the scope of their application, advantages, and disadvantages. Based on the conducted analysis, the recommendations are formulated for the developed automated leveling system, its structure, and principles of functioning. The main components of the leveling system, their functions, and the connections between them are considered. The scientific novelty of this article is to develop an original algorithm for the functioning of an automated leveling system. It includes the main stages of the profiling process: installation by a laser plane, determination of its position, adjustment of the position of the working element of construction equipment, and differs due to the necessary mathematical support for the implementation of the laser plane control process. The algorithm allows one to develop software that implements the basic operations of managing the profiling process.

This paper presents an analysis allowing for the determination of the differential equation describing the circuit of the active filter inverter output current control with an additional measurement of input voltage. The resulting equation allows to determine the conditions that ensure stable operation of the filter with the load in form of a resonant LC circuit. Analysis results were confirmed by computer simulation and experimental studies of commercial active filter.

This paper seeks to improve comprehension of issues related to political stability. The primary elucidating tool employed is the multifaceted approach to political stability. This is the idea that similar political stability mechanisms can be observed in many different political contexts. These phenomena consist of conspicuous discrepancies between the stability of dimensions or layers of the political sphere. The lack of congruency between political stability and economic stability, differences between the stability of government authorities and the stability of the whole political system, or the gap between social and political stability are examples that are not difficult to grasp in ordinary observations of political appearances. The main task of this paper is to explain and elaborate on the reasons behind this phenomenon. As an additional value, some suggestions of how our findings can change the view on the method of research on political stability are to be found. The outcome of our investigation can be applied to comparative politics, constitutional studies, and political system analysis. The paper is particularly significant for empirically oriented political theory.

In production control processes, many decisions are made based on measurements conducted during the production itself. Therefore, the product quality, the equipment operating conditions, and the course of production process are all influenced by the quality of measurement system in use. Repeatability and Reproducibility Analysis (R&R), which is one of the methods of Measurement System Analysis (MSA), can be used in order to evaluate the measurement system’s precision. This article presents an evaluation of a measurement system, transferred directly from a Control Department to a Production Line in one of the enterprises in Podlaskie region. For the calculation, the author used the results of a measurement experiment in the surveyed enterprise carried out in the STATISTICA software. There was also an analysis conducted of cause-and-effect in relation to measurement processes of bad quality.
W procesach sterowania produkcją wiele decyzji podejmowanych jest na podstawie przeprowadzonych w jej trakcie pomiarów. Jakość stosowanego procesu pomiarowego ma więc wpływ na jakość wyrobów, warunki eksploatacji maszyn, przebieg procesu produkcji. Do oceny poprawności systemu pomiarowego można wykorzystać analizę powtarzalności i odtwarzalności (R&R), która jest jedną z metod analizy MSA (Measurement System Analysis). W artykule przedstawiono ocenę jakości systemu pomiarowego, który został przeniesiony z działu kontroli jakości bezpośrednio na linię produkcyjną w jednym z przedsiębiorstw w województwie podlaskim. Do obliczeń wykorzystano wyniki eksperymentu pomiarowego w badanym zakładzie opracowane przy użyciu aplikacji STATISTICA. Przeprowadzono również analizę przyczynowo-skutkową złej jakości procesów pomiarowych.

The study summarises the analysis of reliability assessment of measurements of a selected critical property of a high-precision casting product. Shoreline changes and groundwater quality monitoring have become pressing issues for the coastal region of Bangladesh. This study investigated the shoreline changes from 2000 to 2020 and evaluated the groundwater quality, as well as SWI in the Kuakata coastal area. While analyzing satellite images, the temporal shoreline changes were assessed through the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) in ArcGIS 10.4.1. Higher erosion rates (>2 m/year) were found in the southernmost part and the SE part of the studied area. Twenty-five groundwater samples were collected, and the physicochemical parameters were measured to assess the groundwater quality. The geographic information system (GIS) was used to assess the spatial variation of the EC, pH, and Cl⁻ contents through the inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation method. The EC, Cl⁻, and pH values of the studied groundwater ranged from (1.2 mS/cm to 19.5 mS/cm), (79.88 mg/L to 11241.67 mg/L), and (7.9 to 8.7), repectively. The analysis revealed that the majority of the groundwater samples were unsuitable for drinking purpose due to higher EC and Cl⁻ values. Saline water intrusion (SWI) was determined by using the alternative EC vs Cl⁻ method in the southern part of the Kuakata beach area, which was closest to the sea.

The article uses the method of system analysis to analyse the vision of society outlined in the encyclical “Rerum Novarum” by Leo XIII. The system analysis concerned the identification and problem analysis with elements of mathematical analysis (according to the Konieczny division). In the course of the analysis, used were the concepts developed at the Polish School of Cybernetics, the main representatives of which were Mazur and Kossecki. The basics of system analysis, autonomous systems were presented and the division into systems was made for further analysis. System energy/material processes in terms of energy, power and freedom factor of the systems as well as the information processes in terms of social norms were taken into account. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the system of social control proposed by Pope Leo XIII assumes primacy of ideological norms (Catholicism) and ethical norms, with simultaneous occurrence of economic and vital norms. The system of society proposed by Pope Leo XIII is coherent, resistant to disturbances and striving for effective expansion, and what is more, it solves a given social problem. The weakness of that system is susceptibility to ideological indifference, weakening ethics and disturbing the process of ideological and ethical programming. The implementation of ideological and ethical norms into the society takes place mainly through the educational process. Further research possibilities and limitations of the tools used were also indicated.

The above mentioned algorithms are designed to provide information on the probability of success of police operations and on the necessary costs which must be incurred in a given crisis situation in order to implement their individual, expected variants. Using historical data and algorithms developed on its basis, the system is supposed to indicate the relevant forces and resources required, the methods and tactics for operations and characteristics of the security infrastructure. Moreover, the publication presents the fundamental mechanisms of the police command and control process during emergency situations and general remarks regarding the professional development of those who manage these types of policing operations. In the author’s opinion, of particular importance in this respect is the course addressed to commissioned police officers trained to be commanders or deputy commanders of security-related policing operations, where classes are conducted using a simulator for police operations in emergency situations. It is a form of advanced command staff training with the use of a virtual computer simulation system. The simulator makes it possible to develop algorithms for dealing with crisis incidents and to improve the command process during emergencies. One of the practical goals of developing the information and analysis system is its integration with the simulator for police operations in emergency situations. In this respect, it is supposed to be a tool used in multimedia decision-making training. The author comes to the conclusion that the expected functionalities of the information and analysis system will have a positive effect both on the educational process of improving professional qualifications of commanders of security-related policing operations and on the real planning, implementation and assessment of the operations themselves.

In practice, a truss consists of a large number of members which makes it a complex system. This leads to difficulties to estimate the system reliability due to computational costs. An adaptive method is thereby proposed to deal with this issue. It constructs a global metamodel to quickly estimate the rough reliability index of a truss. According to the estimated reliability index, the differential evolution algorithm is performed to generate more samples located in an expanded domain so that more representative failure modes can be identified. Combined with AK-SYSi, local metamodels of representative failure mods are built, and updated through active learning. When the convergence criterion is satisfied, the results of system reliability analysis can be obtained. Eventually, two examples of truss structures are studied to illustrate the superiority of the proposed method in balancing accuracy and efficiency. The results indicate that the proposed method makes a good balance between accuracy and efficiency when it is applied to analyze the system reliability of the truss.

The research study aims to evaluate the precision of the measurement system using Gauge R&R. An experimental research design adopting a positivist empirical approach with deductive strategy was followed to assess the effectiveness of Crossed Gauge R&R technique for validating a measurement system using destructive testing. Crossed Gauge R&R technique in Minitab was found to be highly effective in quantifying different components of measurement variation relative to process variation. Clue generation from the Crossed Gauge R&R study combined with manufacturing and measurement process know-how helped in identifying and eliminating the root causes for measurement variation. Overall Crossed Gauge R&R proved successful in validating the burst strength test equipment. However, it should be noted that manufacturing and test equipment played an equally important part in developing and executing the gauge R&R study and accurately analysing the results. So, Crossed Gauge R&R should be used as an aid rather than the solution for measurement system validation.

The aim of this study was to evaluate how wearing one or two orthoses influence the gait parameters in children with hemiplegia. Four children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy participated in the study. Patients were from 3 to 7 years old; one girl and three boys; one patient with right side hemiplegia, three patients with left side hemiplegia. Patients underwent the VICON MX system gait analysis three times (sessions): one with bare feet, the other two with shoes and orthoses: one with orthoses used unilaterally on palsied limb, one with orthoses used bilaterally. The following gait parameters were analyzed: velocity, cadence, pelvis tilt, range of pelvic movement in sagittal plane, separately for affected and non-affected side: step length, stance time (as a percentage of the gait cycle), range of hip movement in sagittal plane, knee flexion at initial contact, maximum knee flexion in swing phase. Results of the study showed which and how many gait parameters changed while wearing one in comparison with two orthoses. The results did not give a clear indication which condition is better: wearing one or two orthoses, however they suggest that when the orthotic devices are considered for patients with hemiplegic cerebral palsy, the objective, instrumented gait analysis can be used to take the best decision whether one or two orthoses should be prescribed.

Measurement System Analysis is a part of “Measure” phase, which is a structured project management approach. This approach consist of the following steps: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control – “DMAIC” and is a path to resolve production problems based on Lean Six Sigma methodology. This method has been presented by using of computer aided statistical software – Minitab – which is a most common statistical software, used by Green or Black Belts. As a Master Black Belt I faced to the problem of lack an appropriate explanation of using it by the Belts – which contributed by implementation of a proper training program. Measurement system analysis in this program, is divided by Attribute Agreement Analysis, which is analysis of attribute data, and Gage R&R – analysis for continuous data. Therefore it is very important to understand differences between attribute and continuous date and their main metrics. Understanding data types, allowed to explain components of measurement errors. This base knowledge is a foundation of measurement system analysis and going further – base knowledge of each Green or Black Belt.
Analiza systemu pomiarowego jest częścią fasy "Pomiar", która jest ustrukturyzowanym podejściem do zarządzania projektami. To podejście składa się z następujących kroków: definiowanie, pomiar, analizowanie, poprawa, kontrola/sterowanie – "DMAIC" i jest drogą do rozwiązania problemów produkcyjnych opartych na metodologii Lean Six Sigma. Metoda ta została przedstawiona za pomocą komputerowego wspomagania statystycznych prac inżynierskich – Minitab – jest najczęściej spotykanym oprogramowanie statystyczne, wykorzystane przez Green lub Black Beltów. Jako Master Black Belt zetknąłem się z problemem braku odpowiedniego wyjaśnienia/zrozumienia I jego wykorzystania przez Beltów – co przyczyniło by wdrożenia odpowiedniego programu szkoleniowego. Analiza systemu pomiarowego w tym programie, jest podzielona na analizę systemu pomiarowego dla danych atrybutowych, oraz Gage R&R – analiza systemu pomiarowego dla danych ciągłych. W związku z tym bardzo ważne jest, aby zrozumieć różnice pomiędzy danymi atrybutowymi, a ciągłymi oraz ich główne współczynniki/metryki. Zrozumienie typu danych pozwoli na wyjaśnienie składników błędów pomiarowych. Ta podstawowa wiedza jest fundamentem analizy systemu pomiarowego, a idąc dalej – podstawową wiedzą każdego Green lub Black Belta.

During shaftline alignment and crankshaft springing analyses, knowledge of stiffness of radial bearings is essential. Dynamic stiffness's characteristics of marine main body are difficult to estimate because of lack of available documentation and complicated shape of the body. In the literature, there is a lack of the detailed data on the stiffness of the crankshaft foundation in the frame of marine main engine. Those parameters are crucial for the shaft line alignment analysis as well as for the analysis of interactions between the shaft line and the crankshaft. Especially for the high power engines, the correct model of the boundary conditions plays a key role during the analysis. The paper presents the methodology of the characteristics determination of the marine engine’s body as well as the example of computations for a MAN B&W K98MC type engine mounted on a ~3000 TEU container ship. The model of main engine body is relatively big – it contains over 800 thousand degree of freedom. The elasticity of ship hull has been estimated and taken into account during analysis. It has been found, that static stiffness parameters recommended by the producer for the shaft line alignment are evaluated correctly, however they represent only the flexibility of the engine’s body, not taking into account the flexibility of the ship’s hull. What is more, the dynamic magnification of vibration amplitudes is not taken into account.

Among statistical instruments of quality Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) take particular place. The proper quality of measurement data - verification and assurance of this quality are the task of MSA - guarantees an opportunity to carry out a solid SPC analysis supplying information about a process behavior. One of the principal tasks of SPC is estimation of capability of a process i.e. the assessment of process potential as for variability regarding expectations defined by specification limits. Data for analysis of a process capability are the results of measurements made by means of a determined measurement system. The variability of this measurement system must influence the results of capability assessment, however the measurement system adequate to control the process should guarantee that the impact is little enough to be omitted. The subject of the work is the analysis of influence of measurement system variability on evaluation of process capability indices. The mutual relations between process variability and measurement system variability present analytical relationships and experimental research given in the work. The aim of the tests was an assessment of a capability of the process of steel drop forgings' heat treatment relating to a hardness. The methodology demonstrated in the work is valid quality standards compatible (ISO 9000, ISO/TS 16949 etc.).
Wśród statystycznych narzędzi jakości szczególne miejsce zajmują: statystyczne sterowanie procesem (SPC) oraz analiza systemów pomiarowych (MSA). Odpowiednia jakość danych pomiarowych - weryfikacja i zapewnienie tej jakości to zadanie MSA - gwarantuje możliwość przeprowadzenia rzetelnej analizy SPC dostarczającej istotnych informacji o zachowaniu się procesu. Jednym z podstawowych zadań SPC jest ocena zdolności jakościowej procesu, tj. ocena możliwości procesu ze względu na zmienność w odniesieniu do oczekiwań definiowanych granicami specyfikacji. Dane do analizy zdolności procesu są wynikiem pomiarów wykonanych za pomocą określonego systemu pomiarowego. Zmienność tego systemu pomiarowego musi wpływać na wyniki oceny zdolności, niemniej odpowiedni do nadzorowania procesu system pomiarowy powinien gwarantować, aby wpływ ten był na tyle mały, że pomijalny. Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza wpływu zmienności systemu pomiarowego na ocenę współczynników zdolności procesu. Wzajemne relacje pomiędzy zmiennością procesu oraz zmiennością systemu pomiarowego przestawiają podane w pracy związki analityczne oraz badania eksperymentalne. Celem badań była ocena zdolności procesu obróbki cieplnej odkuwek stalowych do uzyskiwanej twardości. Metodyka zaprezentowana w pracy jest zgodna z obowiązującymi standardami jakości (ISO 9000, ISO/TS 16949 itp.).

The article presents the concept of a computer system for interpreting unconventional oil and gas deposits with the use of X-ray computed tomography results. The functional principles of the solution proposed are presented in the article. The main goal is to design a product which is a complex and useful tool in a form of a specialist computer software for qualitative and quantitative interpretation of images obtained from X-ray computed tomography. It is devoted to the issues of prospecting and identification of unconventional hydrocarbon deposits. The article focuses on the idea of X-ray computed tomography use as a basis for the analysis of tight rocks, considering especially functional principles of the system, which will be developed by the authors. The functional principles include the issues of graphical visualization of rock structure, qualitative and quantitative interpretation of model for visualizing rock samples, interpretation and a description of the parameters within realizing the module of quantitative interpretation.

The permanent and long-lasting development of the civilization influences the growth of the threat occurrence connected with the functioning of Water Supply System (WSS). The presented methodology can be used to describe the functioning of the public water supply using the evaluation of its proper functioning and allows for implementation to determine proper operation of water network. The expanded methodology of conducted surveys of recipients in the field of the effectiveness of the water supply system is the basis for a comprehensive assessment of its proper functioning. Consumer opinions may be used in determining water supply reliability standards and the rules for granting discounts and rebates in the case of restrictions and interruptions in water supply. A significant issue is the assessment by respondents nuisance interruptions in water supply (time and frequency), knowledge of the causes, inconveniencing and losses that causes lack of water supply. In the work the results of consumer survey during undesirable events in Polish water networks were presented.
Stały i długotrwały rozwój cywilizacji wpływa na wzrost występowania zagrożeń związanych z funkcjonowaniem systemu zaopatrzenia w wodę (SZW). Prezentowana metodologia może być stosowana w celu oceny prawidłowego funkcjonowania wodociągów. Opinie konsumentów mogą być stosowane przy określaniu standardów niezawodności usług wodociągowych oraz zasad udzielania bonifikat i upustów w przypadku ich niedotrzymania. Ważnym zagadnieniem jest ocena przez respondentów uciążliwości (czasu oraz częstotliwości), uniedogodnień, a także wielkości strat finansowych spowodowanych brakiem dostawy wody. W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań oceny konsumentów podczas zdarzeń niepożądanych w polskich systemach wodociągowych.

BPMN has recently become a de facto standard for modeling and design of complex software intensive processes. It is widely used not only in the Business Process domain. Numerous tools supporting visual edition have been developed. Despite its unquestionable advantages the semantic analysis of logical properties seems to be one of the weaknesses of this formalism. In order to assure reliable process execution the overall structure of the graph and its logical operation should be verified.
BPMN staje się powoli standardem de facto w modelowaniu i projektowaniu procesów zawierających istotne komponenty programowe. Jest powszechnie stosowany nie tylko dla modelowania procesów biznesowych. Zaimplementowano wiele narzędzi wspomagających wizualne projektowanie diagramów BPMN. Niestety, pomimo niezaprzeczalnych sukcesów semantyka BPMN i analiza własności logicznych stanowią ciągle słabe strony. Aby zapewnić niezawodną pracę systemów, należy przeprowadzić formalną analizę systemu.

The objective of this paper is to study the margin of stability when trying to lean out the body forward and backward. The centre of mass of the body, the velocity of the centre of mass and extrapolated centre of mass were calculated for four participants. The analyzed movement was recorded by using BTS Motion Capture system. Recordings, in which participants were unable to return to the upright position, were also observed. In these cases, it was verified the usefulness of extrapolated centre of mass for predicting the foot support area that enables maintaining the body balance. The relationship between the applied stability indicators and anthropometric parameters was determined. The preliminary results obtained confirm the validity of the use of selected parameters in tests and in assessment of the stability of the human body, and indicate the directions of further tests for a larger group of participants and other movement activities.

The article introduces a study methodology of the architectural periodization of Algerian mosques based on the systematic structural analysis. The specificity of the Islamic architectural school of Algeria is the simultaneous combination of the traditions of many cultures, imported from other countries, and local, different within certain regions. In the cities of Algeria, mosques with different spatial organization have survived: the so-called Arabian column type, the Maghreb type, the Kharijites type and the Ottoman type. As in the Islamic world in general, a special role in the mosques of Algeria is devoted to ritual ablution.

The paper presents the application of cost-based, component-importance measures for complex technical systems. A stern tube sealing system installed on a sea vessel was used as an example of a complex technical system. Selected statistics of a ship’s operation losses were calculated. Selected, known-importance measures were presented and the authors’ own approach to cost-based, component-importance analysis was shown. The following measures were discussed: the operation-interruption cost index, the maintenance potential, the simulation-based maintenance index, and maintenance and operational costs. A description of factors influencing the importance of the technical system components was provided.

The aircraft conventional control systems including pilot-operators in loop are called as active endogenous systems, because the pilots react actively to real situations evaluated by them and their solutions origin from their minds, from the nervous system. The pilots must make decisions in situations characterised by lack of information, human robust behaviour and their individual capabilities. So, decisions born from reactions of pilot are an effect of subjective analysis. This paper investigates the aircraft landing. The subjective factor is the ratio of required and available time to decision on the go around. The decision depends on the available information and psycho-physiological condition of operator pilots and can be determined with the use of theory of statistical hypotheses. This paper introduces a modified Lorenz attractor for the modelling of the endogenous dynamics of the given active system.
Konwencjonalne układy sterowania samolotem, włączając w to rolę pilotów, nazywane są aktywnymi układami endogennymi z racji znaczenia bieżącej oceny sytuacji i reakcji pilotów wynikających z ich świadomości i cech układu nerwowego. Piloci muszą podejmować decyzje w warunkach braku pełnej informacji o parametrach lotu, posiadając przy tym swoiste cechy reaktywnych zachowań i własny zestaw wytrenowanych nawyków. W ten sposób analiza właściwości monitorowania samolotu staje się badaniem układu zawierającego zmienne subiektywne. W pracy zbadano problem podejścia do lądowania. Za czynnik subiektywny wzięto stosunek czasu wymaganego do faktycznie posiadanego przed podjęciem decyzji o możliwej rezygnacji z lądowania. Decyzja ta zależy od ilości zgromadzonych informacji w danej chwili oraz kondycji psycho-fizjologicznej pilotów i została opisana za pomocą hipotez statystycznych. Do zamodelowania dynamiki rozważanego endogennego układu sterowania samolotem użyto zmodyfikowanego atraktora Lorentza.

This paper describes a methodology for inventory analysis and reduction, which was developed at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Zilina. The methodology describes the optimal procedure for the application of basic analytical methods and tools in practice. The results of the analysis are in the algorithm linked to the subsequent actions realized to improve inventory management system and to minimize inventory level in the company. Described procedure is the result of methodology examination and verification in practical conditions of production enterprises. In the following sections of this paper, there are presented a comprehensive approach to the inventory analysis and the own algorithm, which contains 3 phases: inventory analysis on enterprise level, summary analysis of individual item groups and individual analysis of material items. In the last section, there are described examples of results from such analysis and conclusions. The presented approach is an attempt to create a universal procedure of analysis which integrates methods and tools described in various publications.

The goal of multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) is to select the most appropriate of the alternatives by evaluating many conflicting criteria together. MCDM methods are widely available in the literature and have been used in various energy problems. The key problems studied in electrical power systems in recent years have included voltage instability and voltage collapse. Different flexible alternating current transmission systems (FACTS) equipment has been used for this purpose for decades, increasing voltage stability while enhancing system efficiency, reliability and quality of supply, and offering environmental benefits. Finding the best locations for these devices in terms of voltage stability in actual electrical networks poses a serious problem. Many criteria should be considered when determining the most suitable location for the controller. The aim of this paper is to provide a comparative analysis of MCDM techniques to be used for optimal location of a static VAR compensator (SVC) device in terms of voltage stability. The ideal location can be determined by means of sorting according to priority criteria. The proposed approach was carried out using the Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT) in MATLAB in the IEEE 14-bus test system. Using ten different MCDM methods, the most appropriate locations were compared among themselves and a single ranking list was obtained, integrated with the Borda count method, which is a data fusion technique. The application results showed that the methods used are consistent among themselves. It was revealed that the integrated model was an appropriate method that could be used for optimal location selection, providing reliable and satisfactory results to power system planners.

This article provides an exhaustive analysis of American and Russian political discourse through the examination of the linguistic techniques employed by President Joe Biden and President Putin in their speeches. The aim of this research is to examine the linguistic approaches employed in referencing social and political traditions in the United States and Russia, investigate disparities in linguistic strategies within both political discourses, and assess variations in semantic outcomes. The analysis has been conducted to answer the following research questions: (1) What are the linguistic methods of referring to social and political traditions in America and Russia? (2) Do the linguistic strategies differ depending on the political discourse? (3) Is the semantic output different depending on the political discourse? The findings reveal marked differences between the two discourses, reflecting the social and political discrepancies between the political systems of the United States and Russia.

This study presents an analysis and evaluation of application of European Car Modular Systems in the Polish road transport. Those systems and respective terminology have been analysed and classified. Application of such systems in other countries of the European Union has been described. SWAT analysis has also been carried out in order to enable the most optimal choice of modular system in freight transport to match the condition and characteristics of the Polish road infrastructure. The systems have also been analysed in terms of efficiency and the analysis was performed on the basis of a selected research object – a transport company. An analysis of costs and estimated profits from transport services to be provided by those systems has been carried out on the basis of the research object in comparison with costs borne by the considered company with currently used transport means. This study shows that taking into consideration the results of analyses, safety aspect, road infrastructure and energy efficiency of the vehicles it was found that the proposed oversized vehicles could be implemented to be used on the Polish roads. The analyses and tests performed for a transport logistic company discussed in this article have demonstrated that the proposed modular systems will undoubtedly allow reducing significantly the costs of transport services by increasing load capacity of vehicles.

Preliminary results are presented with respect to a case study concerning two successive tasks of an emergency procedure in a nuclear reactor. Work is in progress to perform a thorough sensitivity analysis to generalize the results obtained.

An important role in an organization is played by the management information system that enables managers to perform management tasks. The pillar of this system is financial and non-financial data provided by the management accounting system. The effect of the application of specific management accounting tools are various types of studies and analyses, defined in internal reports, which are the basis for management, and thus making decisions by managers. Internal reports, in order to fulfil their functions effectively, must have appropriate features as to its structure, content and other properties. In connection with this, the authors studied and presented an assessment of managers from Poland and Romania in the context of such properties of internal reports as quality, content, presentation and comments. The survey method was used as the research method, while the analysis of collected research material was based on cluster analysis and descriptive statistics. The sample consisted of 154 questionnaires. The findings are similar in both countries, although in the case of Romania, managers who assessed highly the quality and content of internal reports, and evaluated slightly lower the presentations and comments.

The paper presents a uniform, port-based approach to modelling of beam/bar systems (trusses). The port-based model of such a distributed parameter system has been defined by application of the bond graph methodology and the distributed transfer function method (DTFM). The proposed method of modelling enables one to formulate input data for computer analysis by application of the DTFM. The constructed computational package enables frequency domain analysis. Additionally, the presented approach uses DTFM to obtain a modal reduced model of the considered system in the form of modal bond graph. The presented algorithm in a simply way allows one to obtain a modal reduced model of complex distributed-lumped parameter beam/bar systems.
W pracy przedstawiono jednolity sposób modelowania konstrukcji belkowo-prętowych (kratownice). Model rozważanego systemu o parametrach rozłożonych został opracowany przy zastosowaniu metodologii grafów wiązań i metody transmitancji układów o parametrach rozłożonych (DTFM). Proponowana metoda modelowania pozwala sformułować wygodny algorytm do analizy komputerowej z zastosowaniem DTFM. Opracowany system obliczeniowy umożliwia analizę w dziedzinie częstotliwości oraz otrzymanie zredukowanego modelu modalnego rozważanego układu w postaci modalnego grafu wiązań. Prezentowany algorytm w prosty sposób pozwala na uzyskanie zredukowanego modelu modalnego złożonych, dyskretno-ciągłych układów belkowo-prętowych.

The major goal of this article was to evaluate the efficiency of Linux operating system using statistical self-similarity and multifractal analysis. In order to collect the necessary data, thetools available in Linux such as vmstat, top and iostat were used. The measurement data collected witht hose tools had to be converted into a format acceptable by applications which analyze statistical selfsimilarity and multifractal spectra. Measurements collected while using the MySQL database systemin a host operating system were therefore analyzed with the use of statistical self-similarity and allowedto determine the occurrence of long-range dependencies. Those dependencies were analyzed with theuse of adequately graduated diagrams. Multifractal analysis was conducted with the help of FracLab application. Two methods were applied to determine the multifractal spectra. The obtained spectra were analyzed in order to establish the multifractal dependencies.

The ubiquitousness of information systems means that more and more areas of the company's activity are moving into the virtual sphere. IT systems take over most of the complicated tasks performed by people, which has a positive impact on time and costs incurred for the implementation of these tasks. One of the areas in which IT systems are used is the area of financial management, and thus the management of the financial condition of the unit. This article aims to test the suitability of expert systems as tools that can support the analysis and assessment of the financial condition of business units. The theoretical part discusses the essence of IT systems, theoretical foundations of expert systems and their advantages and disadvantages. The research part shows the use of an expert system to conduct the analysis of the financial condition of selected enterprises based on data from the financial statements of these units from 2015. The expert system provided information on the financial condition of selected companies. These results were compared with the results of the analysis carried out in the traditional way. This confirmed the author's assumption that it is possible to replace the financial analysis carried out with traditional methods by using a properly prepared expert system.

The developed modal method for analyzing oscillating static stability of power systems is based on eigenvalues and eigenvectors. As a mathematical model to the study we use a system of linearized differential equations that describe the behaviour of synchronous machines and their excitation systems during minor disturbances. This approach allows us to analyse the static stability of large power systems, evaluate stability margins, degree of damping modes, and set adjustment mechanism for mode parameters to improve mode stability. We investigated the impact of generator excitation system replacement on stability of Ukraine’s power system. The suggested modal analysis is implemented in the DAKAR software suite [1].

We investigate the dynamics of two coupled Duffing oscillators with attached pendulums forced kinematically by a common signal. Our attention is focused on different kinds of synchronization which can appear in the considered system. Different types of coupling (spring, damper and spring and damper simultaneously) are taken into account. We show in a two-parameters space (amplitude and frequency of excitation) existence of complete and phase synchronization and asynchronous ranges.

Applying systems analysis in political science research is still one of the important dimensions of political science methodology. Reconstruction of the functional model of the social system seems to be an attractive proposition for policy researchers. Signed by the name of Jeffrey Charles Alexander, the American version of neofunctionalism is one of the responses to the crisis of traditional forms of structural functionalism. The main purpose of the reconstruction of T. Parsons’s theory was its revitalization consisting in restoring the possibility of its application in contemporary social research. The reinterpretation of the classical approach was to a large extent “forced” by harsh criticism of the current approach and focused especially on attempts to overcome the limitations contained therein, which manifested in the impossibility of correlation of functional theorems with newly developing research currents Jeffrey Alexander restored relevance and emphasizes suitability for interpreting and explaining political processes and phenomena. Understanding the concept of functions and functional relations in the political environment allows for effective application in the analysis of contemporary political systems. Therefore, changing the method of functional analysis is a useful methodological tool in developing a political theory.

A smart cooling system to control the ambient temperature of a premise in Amman, Jordan, is investigated and implemented. The premise holds 650 people and has 14 air conditioners with the cooling capacity ranging from 3 to 5 ton refrigerant (TR) each. The control of the cooling system includes implementing different electronics circuits that are used to sense the ambient temperature and humidity, count the number of people in the premise and then turn ON/OFF certain air conditioner(s). The data collected by different electronic circuits are fed wirelessly to a microcontroller, which decides which air conditioner will be turned ON/OFF, its location and its desired set cooling temperature. The cooling system is integrated with an on-grid solar photovoltaic energy system to minimize the operational cost of the overall cooling system.

The selection of the formwork system for high rise building affects the entire construction project duration and cost. The study reports the factors influencing the selection of different formwork system in the construction of high rise buildings through structural questionnaire survey from the client, contractor, consultant, and interviews with expert members. Total of 40 technical factors was identified from the literature and 220 filled questionnaires were received from the respondent. Relative Importance Index method is used to find the topmost factors affecting the selection of formwork system. Additionally, from factor analysis 22 factors were identified to have a correlation with one another. Regression analysis reveals that duration of the project, maintenance cost, adaptability, and safety have impact on formwork selection across time, cost and quality. These findings could potentially increase the construction company’s existing knowledge in relation to formwork selection.

Opis:
Water supply system is complicated technical system which belongs to underground urban infrastructure. Its accurate functioning determines everyday live stability of citizens. Risk analysis is a key phase of the process of water supply safety management. The aim of this paper is to present new propose of methods for risk of the first type (associated with quantity of supplied water) and the risk of the second type (associated with quality of supplied water) analyses in water supply system. The paper contains the description of matrix methods for risk analyses and methods describing cause-and-effect relationship of failure events (fault tree analysis).

Opis:
Increased spending on healthcare systems in many countries tends to attract attention to their efficiency. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the efficiency of healthcare systems in the OECD countries and indicate causes of inefficiency by applying Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and using additive and super-efficiency models. The homogeneity of the sample is assessed and outliers are excluded. A ranking is established on the basis of efficiency scores. By means of DEA, fully efficient units are identified, forming a reference set (of best practice) for inefficient countries to follow.

Opis:
The concept of construction of the expert system interpreting correctness of measurement and the method of the EEG signal analysis for needs of the brain-computer interface (BCI) are described in the article. The general orientations related with the methodology of creating the expert systems based on the knowledge base (KB) are characterised. Also, the brain-computer interface technology was described, which has been recently gaining more and more popularity within the scope of its application in control processes.

The aim of our paper is to present the new results of research work on optimization and simulation for some logistic problems in the company. The System Dynamics (SD) method and the Vensim simulation language are applied in order to solve specific managerial problems described by Forrester in the model of supply chain. The historical model of Customer-Producer-Employment System by Forrester (Forrester, 1961) has not been examined with the sensitivity analysis, from the “automatic” testing perspective. Optimization experiments have not been conducted, either. It is surprising, since the model is old and widely known. The opportunities offered by the Vensim language allow us to perform such analysis. The visualization called “confidence bounds“ is used, to show the behaviour of chosen variables over a period of time. The Monte-Carlo method is applied for sampling a set of numbers from within bounded domains (distribution for each searching parameters is specified). The authors of this paper conducted numerous experiments in this scope. This paper presents their results and offers some conclusions formulated at the end.
