Opis:
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is observed as a group of post-traumatic mental and physical clinical symptoms. It affects soldiers returning from missions as well as victims of different types of disasters. The combat stress symptoms are follow-up of a triggering factor. The reaction of the limbic system associated with the emotional state circulation in the Papez area, causing the variety of vegetative effects, especially circulatory, plays a significant role. Consequences of the combat stress apply to mental and emotional changes, a dynamic stereotype and have indirect effects within individual’s family life and his/her immediate surroundings. Providing people suffering from combat stress syndromes with psychological and psychiatric care is crucial.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The article addresses important and current issues regarding stress at work of contemporary managers and the implications of stress, including for family life. The purpose of the article is to indicate the causes and effects of managers’ professional stress. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem is an attempt to answer the question – how stress affects managers in professional and private life? Based on the literature of the subject and in relation to the results of selected surveys, the authors prove that professional stress in the case of managers adversely affects not only the professional environment in which the manager works, but also has a bearing on the family’s functioning.THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Professional stress is an increasingly common phenomenon in modern organizations. In the case of managers, it is usually the result of their weakened resilience in overcoming and solving the difficulties, long-term fatigue and emotional strains they experience at work. RESEARCH RESULTS: Stress affects the entire manager’s surroundings negatively. At work, it is increased absenteeism, more mistakes made, emotional arousal or loss of self-confidence. In family life, this is excessive nervousness, physical and mental tension that acts destructively on family members, lack of interest in the affairs of loved ones and aggression.CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Employers and personnel departments in order to level the level and effects of stress should initiate research aimed at identifying the causes of manager’s stress. Training in stress management and undertaking activities that reduce the stressfulness of the work environment, such as changing the scope of tasks, goals or responsibilities, are important.

This paper proposes a model for estimating fatigue life under multiaxial stress states, based on critical plane concepts, taking into account the effect of mean shear stress. The fatigue life test results calculated on the basis of the proposed model are compared to the experimental ones related to 2017A-T4 and 6082-T6 aluminium alloy, S355J0 alloy steel under constant-amplitude bending, torsion and proportional combinations of bending and torsion; Ti-6Al-4V alloy under tension-compression, torsion and combination tension-compression – torsion. For the results obtained, statistical analysis is performed by comparing the calculation results proposed by Findley and Dang Van criteria with the experimental data.

This paper contains an analysis of the determinants of predispositions of individuals to cope with stress in adulthood, very likely shaped in childhood. The theoretical part defines stress and ways to cope with it and describes the conclusions reached to date of studies on attachment styles determinants to cope with stress. Presents the results of the author’s own research showing the preferences of choosing different strategies to cope with stress depending on an attachment style shaped in childhood. The research conducted in 2013 and 2014 was participated by 180 women and 180 men aged 20-40 (M = 28.99, SD = 4.23), living in the Zachodniopomorskie and Lubuskie Voivodeships in Poland. Participants filled in questionnaires defining their ways of coping with stress and their attachment style. The research results obtained show that the respondents who the most frequently manifest active coping with stress and seeking support in difficult situations come from families that built in their child a secure attachment style. Helplessness and avoidant behaviours are more often evinced in stressful situations by the respondents brought up in families who built an anxiety-ambivalent and an avoidance attachment style.

Opis:
The deformation of a part occurring in the process of grinding directly influences its exploitation and quality parameters. The instability of shape and size, which occurs due to an imbalance of residual stress, can be the one of the major causes of deformation of a part. The decrease in stress slows down the deformation process. Considering the regularities of heat source intensity dependence on the grinding modes, it can be asserted that with increasing grinding depth and grinding wheel hardness, the value increases and it decreases with a growth in a speed of the part and the use of cooling. The higher the heat removal is and the better lubricant properties of the liquid are, the more significant the decrease in is. Changing these values allows regulation of the residual stresses. As a result of the research on determination of deformations, it is recommended to reduce thermal deformations by considering the geometric size of a plate to be machined, linear expansion coefficient of plate material and an allowance for nonflatness from thermal deformations. The value of nonflatness from thermal deformations is directly proportional to linear expansion coefficient of plate material and its square overall dimensions. At the same time, the value of nonflatness is inversely proportional to the plate thickness.

With the developing of science and technology the use of gears has become more common in all the upcoming industries. Accessory units used in aircraft provide the power for hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems in addition to providing various pumps and control systems for efficient engine operation. The design of an effective and reliable gearing system is governed, amongst other factors, by its ability to withstand high root bending stress (RBS) and surface contact stress(SCS). A number of authors have utilized thefmite element method to predict RBS and SCS in gears. This paper presents the utilization of a three-dimensional (3D), finite element method (FEM) to conduct RBS and SCS calculations of a pair ofspur gears. Firstly a pair of parallel spur gears without errors and tooth modifications is defined in a CAD system. Then, MES analysis is conducted. Using FEM to calculate the RBS the load is applied as a force to the tip of the gear, it is modeled as a linear force uniformly distributed along the face width and perpendicular to the tooth surface. The SCS is considered as nonlinear contact analysis, where the contact of the pair of gears is assumed on teeth flanks. The tooth RBS and SCS of the same pair of gears are calculated and presented. Gears with wrought alloy steel are considered. The results are compared with the ISO standards, Levis formula and Hertz equation. The analysis was made for applied moment equal: 600[Nm], 1200[Nm] and 1600[Nm]. It was found that the calculated results are comparable. Finally, an example of calculating a pair of spur gears is given in the paper.

Opis:
Molecular oxygen (O2), constituting the basis of life on Earth, is classified as a substance with oxidizing properties. Reacting with organic compounds, it leads to their oxidation and at the same time participates in reduction processes. In aerobic organisms, over 90% of oxygen undergoes a total four-electron reduction to produce water molecules (O2 + 4 H+ + 4e- → 2 H2O). The remaining 10% of oxygen, however, is not fully reduced, which results in the production of molecules referred to as reactive oxygen species (ROS). In high concentrations ROS can interact with cellular components (DNA, proteins and lipids), leading to the oxidation of these macromolecules. The resulting oxidation products interfere with the proper functioning of the body by influencing gene expression, intercellular signaling and apoptosis. These changes have been observed in numerous pathological conditions, such as neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, metabolic, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. However, in the context of evolution, living organisms developed specialized repair mechanisms to prevent cellular accumulation of the products of DNA, protein and lipid oxidation, including enzymatic mechanisms (e.g. nucleases, proteases, phospholipases) or removal of damaged DNA, proteins and lipids by apoptosis or autophagy. This article briefly discusses the mechanisms of oxidative modification of cell components and the main repair systems responsible for the removal of lesions in cells by oxidative damage.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is an important signaling molecule involved in several stress-resistance processes in plants, such as drought and heavy metal stresses. However, little is known about the roles of H2S in responses to chilling stress. In this paper, we demonstrated that chilling stress enhance the H2S levels, the H2S synthetase (L-/D-cysteine desulfhydrase, L/DCD) activities, and the expression of L/DCD gene in Vitis vinifera L. ‘F-242’. Furthermore, the seedlings were treated with sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS, a H2S donor) and hypotaurine (HT, a H2S scavenger) at 4°C to examine the effects of exogenous H2S on grape. The results revealed that the high activity of superoxide dismutase and enhanced expression of VvICE1 and VvCBF3 genes, but low level of superoxide anion radical, malondialdehyde content and cell membrane permeability were detected after addition of NaHS. In contrast, HT treatment displayed contrary effect under the chilling temperature. Taken together, these data suggested that H2S might be directly involved in the cold signal transduction pathway of grape.

Salt stress is a major abiotic stress that limits agricultural productivity in many regions of the world. To understand the molecular basis of the salt stress response, two wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) cultivars, Karim and Azizi, which are of agronomic significance in Tunisia, were grown under non-saline and saline conditions (100 mM). Leaves and roots of control and salt-stressed plants were harvested after 11 days of salt treatment. Karim cultivar may behave as a typical Na+ include, which compartmentalizes Na+ within the leaf cell vacuoles where it could be used as an osmoticum to lower the osmotic potential necessary for the maintenance of the plant hydric status. While, accumulation of K+ was greater in Karim cultivar compared to Azizi, in both organs, presenting an important manifestation of salinity tolerance. Significant changes in metabolism of antioxidative system were observed, with an increase in protein tyrosine nitration, which indicates that salinity stress induces a nitro-oxidative stress.

Little is known as to what extent the pandemic lockdown has changed the perceived level of stress and stress-coping strategies. In response to this gap we present the results of quantitative and qualitative studies on stress levels and coping with stress conducted among Polish adults during the COVID-19 lockdown. The first study indicates that the lockdown has changed stress appraisal moderately, and it has also affected stress-coping strategies in various areas. The second study reveals miscellaneous reasons for stress appraisal (health, economic, political, social, freedom restriction, and religious). Participants perceived pandemic and lockdown as a moderate stressor, more as a challenge than a threat. Moreover the avoidant style recognized as the most adaptive reaction on stress in our study, confirms that people have a natural ability to adapt to unpredictable and unexpected situations like COVID-19 lockdown.
