adaptive method for work effort prediction

Opis:
At the early stage of information system analysis and design one of the challenge is to estimate total work effort needed, when only small number of analysis artifacts is available. As a solution we propose new method called SAMEE – Simple Adaptive Method for Effort Estimation. It is based on the idea of polynomial regression and uses selected UML artifacts like use cases, actors, domain classes and references between them. In this paper we describe implementation of this method in Enterprise Architect CASE tool and show simple example how to use it in real information system analysis.
Artykuł opisuje również prototypową implementację metody SAMEE w postaci tzw. programowej wtyczki (ang.plug-in) do popularnego narzędzia CASE – Enterprise Architect – wspomagającego analizę i projektowanie systemów informatycznych. Dodatkowo, dzięki mechanizmowy profi li UML, odpowiednie artefakty (np. cechy) zostały wzbogacone o atrybuty wymagane do obsługi zaproponowanej metody estymacji. Taka integracja z narzędziem CASE pozwala myśleć o praktycznym zastosowaniu narzędzia do szacowania pracochłonności metodą SAMEE. Przykład konkretnego użycia SAMEE w narzędziu Enterprise Architect został zamieszczony w opracowaniu. W artykule opisano również potencjalne kierunki rozwoju metody (np. zastosowanie szerszej bazy typów artefaktów analitycznych, czy wykorzystanie innego, bardziej złożonego, nieliniowego modelu estymacji).

Opis:
DNA fragmentation by single strand breaks (SSBs) or double strand breaks (DSBs) is major concern in genotoxicity research. DNA damages can be easily known through comet assay or single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE). Since decades, scoring through software for DNA damages in images have been developed by researchers. These softwares depend upon manual scoring on individual comet in a particular interface. The evaluation under software may have biasness and error during scoring by each researcher and few softwares are unable to access easily because many of these are commercial products. However, CellProfiler (CP) image analysis software (Version 2.1.0) is free, easy operation, faster and automated screening by computer itself. An attempt was made to detect DNA damages mainly comet scoring through CP software as whole comet, comet head and comet tail from image of previously studied single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) in the peripheral erythrocytes of fish exposed to benzene as experimental image. The results particularly on length and area of whole comet, head and tail were obtained after automated analysis in the CP software. The image processing study was done of the objects present in fluorescence microscopy image to know maximum DNA damage at each cell level for the fish erythrocytes. It was concluded that the present study of image based screening for DNA damages as details of comet and its head and tail evaluation by shape and area in the fish erythrocytes can be a suitable tool for genotoxicity prediction along with risk assessment at DNA level. The shape descriptor as Zernike moments order 0 to 9 can also be suitable parameters to know accuracy of the shape of comet and its head and tail in the image. Finally, high-throughput automated screening of comet test can help in disease diagnosis and repair mechanisms as well as environmental monitoring of genotoxin(s) within short period of time.

Context: Automated acceptance testing validates a product’s functionality from the customer’s perspective. Text-based automated acceptance tests (AATs) have gained popularity because they link requirements and testing. Objective: To propose and evaluate a cost-effective systematic reuse process for automated acceptance tests. Method: A systematic approach, method engineering, is used to construct a systematic reuse process for automated acceptance tests. The techniques to support searching, assessing, adapting the reusable tests are proposed and evaluated. The constructed process is evaluated using (i) qualitative feedback from software practitioners and (ii) a demonstration of the process in an industry setting. The process was evaluated for three constraints: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and facilitating conditions. Results: The process consists of eleven activities that support development for reuse, development with reuse, and assessment of the costs and benefits of reuse. During the evaluation, practitioners found the process a useful method to support reuse. In the industrial demonstration, it was noted that the activities in the solution helped in developing an automated acceptance test with reuse faster than creating a test from scratch i.e., searching, assessment and adaptation parts. Conclusion: The process is found to be useful and relevant to the industry during the preliminary investigation.

Background. Common approaches to software verification include static testing techniques, such as code reading, and dynamic testing techniques, such as black-box and white-box testing. Objective. With the aim of gaining a better understanding of software testing techniques, a controlled experiment replication and the synthesis of previous experiments which examine the efficiency of code reading, black-box and white-box testing techniques were conducted. Method. The replication reported here is composed of four experiments in which instrumented programs were used. Participants randomly applied one of the techniques to one of the instrumented programs. The outcomes were synthesized with seven experiments using the method of network meta-analysis (NMA). Results. No significant differences in the efficiency of the techniques were observed. However, it was discovered the instrumented programs had a significant effect on the efficiency. The NMA results suggest that the black-box and white-box techniques behave alike; and the efficiency of code reading seems to be sensitive to other factors. Conclusion. Taking into account these findings, the Authors suggest that prior to carrying out software verification activities, software engineers should have a clear understanding of the software product to be verified; they can apply either black-box or white-box testing techniques as they yield similar defect detection rates.

To support it, analysts utilize a large set of specialized tools, however they are usually designed to solve a particular problem are often incompatible with other existing tools and systems. Therefore, to fully leverage the existing supporting tools, their technological integration is required. In this paper we present original approach for integrating systems based on the component-driven paradigm. Firstly, a problem of supporting criminal analysis is described with a strong emphasis on the heterogeneity issues. Secondly, some theoretical information about integration is depicted followed by the details of the proposed architecture. Finally, the technological assumptions are discussed and prototype integration based on proposed concept is overviewed. om the experiments are discussed in the final part of the paper.

The paper introduces a new software package, MOLPTOL, for sensitivity analysis in multi-objective linear programming. In this application, which is available for free of charge on the web page (https:// sites.google.com/view/molptol), the tolerance approach as a measure of sensitivity is used. The motivation for creating MOLPTOL is the lack of such tools to date. MOLPTOL is novel for multi-criteria decision-making methods based on sensitivity analysis. The paper presents some new computational methods for obtaining the supremal tolerances as well.

Search based techniques have been widely applied in the domain of software testing. This Systematic Literature Review aims to present the research carried out in the field of search based approaches applied particularly to mutation testing. During the course of literature review, renowned databases were searched for the relevant publications in the field to include relevant studies up to the year 2014. Few studies for the year 2015-16, gathered by performing snowball search, have also been included. For reviewing the literature in the field, 43 studies were evaluated, out of which 18 studies were thoroughly studied and analysed. The result of this SLR shows that search based techniques were applied to mutation testing primarily for two purposes, either for mutant optimisation or for test case optimisation. The future directions of this SLR suggests the application of search based techniques for other issues related to mutation testing, like, solution to equivalents mutants, generation of non-trivial mutants, multi-objective test data generation and non-functional testing.

This paper demonstrates the results of implementation and verification of an already existing algorithm that allows for calculating saturation characteristics of singlephase power transformers. The algorithm was described for the first time in 1993. Now this algorithm has been implemented using the DIgSILENT Programming Language (DPL) as an external script in the harmonic domain calculations of a power system analysis tool PowerFactory [10]. The algorithm is verified by harmonic measurements on a single-phase power transformer. A theoretical analysis of the core nonlinearities phenomena in single and three-phase transformers is also presented. This analysis leads to the conclusion that the method can be applied for modelling nonlinearities of three-phase autotransformers.

In recent years, power systems have been pushed to operate above their limits due to the increase in the demand for energy supply and its usage. This increase is accompanied by various kinds of obstructions in power transmission systems. A power system is said to be secured when it is free from danger or risk. Power systems security deals with the ability of the system to withstand any contingencies without any consequences. Contingencies are potentially harmful disturbances which occur during the steady state operation of a power system. Load flow constitutes the most important study in a power system for planning, operation, and expansion. Contingency selection is performed by calculating two kinds of performance indices; an active performance index (PIP) and reactive power performance index (PIV) for a single transmission line outage. In this paper, with the help of the Newton Raphson method, the PIP and PIV were calculated with DIgSILENT Power Factory simulation software and contingency ranking was performed. Based on the load flow results and performance indexes, the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) North-West region network is recommended for an upgrade or the reactive power or series compensators should be constructed on the riskiest lines and substations.

Large software systems need to be modified to remain useful. Changes can be more easily performed when their design has been carefully documented. This paper presents an approach to quickly find design patterns that have been implemented into a software system. The devised solution greatly reduces the performed checks by organising the search for a design pattern as tree traversals, where candidate classes are carefully positioned into trees. By automatically tagging classes with design pattern roles we make it easier for developers to reason with large software systems. Our approach can provide documentation that lets developers understand the role each class is playing, assess the quality of the code, have assistance for refactoring and enhancing the functionalities of the software system.

As a very important element of most water supply systems, valves are exposed to the effects of strong hydrodynamic forces. When exposed to large physical quantities, the valve and piping can be damaged, which could endanger the performance of a water supply system. This is the main reason why it is necessary to foresee and determine the maximum values of velocity, pressure and other physical quantities that can occur in the system under certain conditions. Predicting extreme conditions allows us to correctly size the valve for the expected conditions to which the valve might be exposed, which is also the main objective of this paper. One of the methods for predicting and determining extreme values on a valve is to perform a simulation with computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This is exactly the method used in the preparation of this paper with the aim of gaining insight into the physical magnitudes for models of gate valves positioned inside a pipe under characteristic degrees of valve closure. The Ansys CFX 19.1 and Ansys Fluent 19.1 software was used to simulate the hydrodynamic analysis and obtain the required results. The hydrodynamic analysis was performed for four opening degrees of gate valve

Latent variable models are used and applied in many areas of the social and behavioral sciences. The increasing availability of computer packages for fitting such models makes latent variable models popular, known and applied in many scientific areas. Latent variable models have a very wide range of applications, especially in the presence of repeated observations, longitudinal data, and multilevel data. The basic model postulates an underlying categorical latent variable; within any category of the latent variable the manifest or observed categorical variables are assumed independent of one another (the axiom of conditional independence). The observed relationships between the manifest variables are thus assumed to result from the underlying classification of the data produced by the categorical latent variable. In this paper we present the theoretical and methodological aspects of latent variable models, as well as their application in R software in the field of economic research.
