Opis:
Social sciences, understood as critical and not neutral by nature, they should be equipped with specific competencies and sensivity. C.  W. Mills these comptence define as sociological imagination – which is study of the relationship of history and biography, Giddens interpreted it as three basic senses: historical, anthropological, critical. The translation into political science would be a political theories imagination, it consist,, among over things like a: historicity of political phenomena, antisubstansialism, research self-awareness. Definition of political theories imagination I propose in the context of Wiktor Marzec’s paper Rebelion and Reaction, which is a study from field of historical sociology, it’s in itself a lot of inspiration for theorists of politics: research, theoretical and methodological. It is worth considering – in this context – fundamental categories of political science, like political subjectivity and the political, also revalidate in their range.

Opis:
The point of this article is on the one hand to make sense of Bauman’s merely ghostly presence in sociology, and, on the other, to demonstrate why sociology itself (unlike Bauman) is incapable of achieving a sociological imagination made to the measure of a world that is modern in a different way than it was in the past. Before providing the justification for choosing Michel Foucault’s idea of the discursive formation as the basis for my critique, I mobilize some ideas from Jacques Derrida and Jacques Rancie`re to suggest that sociology’s Platonic ontology carries with it a ‘national’ discourse that is ‘contemporary only to itself’ and discuss what this implies for its relationship with the dead-living spectre of Zyg-geist Bauman. Thereafter, I critically discuss sociology’s mythological practice and its game-culture before offering an insight into the ways and means of Bauman’s liquid modern alternative which has its hauntological basis in the ‘the privileged space of incertitude’ found in literature. I conclude with the observation that what we have in Bauman is an authentic and ethically responsible thinker who despite imagining sociology as his natural intellectual home is really much too good for that place.

Opis:
The analytical approach of this article is inspired by C. Wright Mills’ (1959) notion of “the sociological imagination.” Individual experience is viewed through the lens of the wider social context, particularly that of the organization. The socio-organizational context is then viewed through the lens of individual experience. The aim of this bi-directional gaze is to explore the relationship between individual experience and wider society. And in doing so, to identify and reveal the shared motifs-the significant, recurrent themes and patterns-that link and construct personal experience and social world. The aims, findings, and research processes of the original study are rooted in the instrumental epistemology of program evaluation. Specifically, a mixed-method implementation-evaluation of a local non-governmental organization’s Orphans and Vulnerable Children program. The aim of this article is to take the analyses and findings of that evaluation beyond its epistemic roots. Qualitative data were disentangled from the confines of thematic analysis and freed into their original narrative form. This allowed for a deeply reflexive “second reading,” which brings whole narratives into a dialogue with original findings, contextual factors, and sociological discourse. Key conceptual anchors are located in Vanessa May’s ideas on the self and belonging, and in Margaret Wetherell’s writings on affect and emotion. These are important aspects of working with children, particularly orphans and vulnerable children in South Africa, where many fall through the cracks of government’s social services. A second, deeper, qualitative reading of the narratives of children, their parents/caregivers, and the organization’s staff, explores three key pathways of individual and group experience that are inextricably linked to emotions and belonging, and which co-construct the social functioning of the organization itself.

Opis:
In Comte’s vision, humanity progressed from a theological to a metaphysical to a positive phase. This transition was to be mirrored by the replacement of theology and metaphysics by a new science of society-sociology. Comte’s prophecy was quickly fulfilled-within a century the new discipline had successfully undermined the legitimacy of other systems of knowledge in the social realm-like philosophy, theology, and literature. Even theologians learned to adopt the findings of their rival and incorporate them into their framework. At the same time, the emerging social sciences borrowed heavily from theology, while trying to mask the debt. The recent constructivist turn has challenged social scholars to rethink that positivist paradigm. This article tries to take up the challenge and see whether theology and sociology can possibly learn from one another.
