The article shows the system of prospective social workers’ training to sustainable development of social groups on the basis of integrated system-synergetic approach. It has been shown that the training of prospective social workers in this direction is of great importance nowadays both for Ukraine and other countries, because no matter what level the society reaches, it always has elements that break its general harmony by practicing deviant, aggressive or self-destructive behavior, that have negative impact on its whole state. It has been proved in the study that sustainable development of social groups is possible on condition progressive sustainable development of personality as the subject of life and responsible social subject as well as a group as integrity. It has been substantiated that the system of social pedagogical activity (that suggests synergetic focus of social-educational, informational, preventive, correctional and rehabilitative activities on encouraging social groups to sustainable development) provides holistic effect on axiological, cognitive, volitional spheres of various social groups’ representatives with a view to develop their subjectivity as well as promotes them both to individual and joint creative and value-oriented activity for improving social life. It has been also shown that the system of prospective social workers’ training to sustainable development of social groups (which has axiological, cognitive, activity and creativity-oriented subsystems and is being implemented through academic, educational, practical, research activities, self-education and volunteering) ensures their moving to the level of self-development as well as gaining the ability to implement the system of work towards sustainable development of various social groups.

Opis:
This study examined which of the factor (social media, social groups or government policies) most influences youth’s ability to participate in leadership in Malaysia. Using a conceptual framework, and social impact theory, the study aimed to investigate the possible reasons why most Malaysian youths at secondary and tertiary educational institutions do not actively participate in leadership activities in their communities. The study employed cross-sectional survey and proportionate stratified random sampling method to collect data from 310 youth leaders in north, east, west and south zones of Malaysia peninsula. However, after data cleaning, data for 141 respondents were analyzed through descriptive statistics and regression methods. Among others, the study found that social media (use time), and social groups (mentors) have the most significant positive effects on leadership participation among Malaysian youths. The study, therefore, recommended that the government and the universities management should monitor and restrict information transmitted on social media to forestall negative social influence on youths by mentors. This could lead to greater participation in leadership activities among Malaysian youths.
W badaniu wykorzystano ankietę przekrojową i metodę proporcjonalnej stratyfikacji losowego próbkowania w celu zebrania danych od 310 liderów młodzieżowych w północnych, wschodnich, zachodnich i południowych strefach półwyspu Malezji.

Opis:
The conflict of feminism with multiculturalism seems to be inevitable to most of theorists, especially on the side of feminism. It has been a staple in the debates for about twenty years now. Surprisingly among the founding fathers of the doctrine of multiculturalism there was also one founding mother, academician and outstanding feminist, prof. Iris Marion Young. How was it possible? Trying to find the answer to this interesting question the author of this paper has reconstructed Young’s critical arguments, concerning both lines of the then multiculturalism, the liberal and the communitarian one. There have been also recalled main theses of her concept of society, which should have solved problems resulting from multicultural structure of societies of US and Canada, the case objects of her interest. The model society, “democratic cultural pluralism,” is based on recognition of cultural groups. Each society is in this sense heterogeneous. Such a society would be non-hierarchical; all groups would be represented, in a horizontal manner, in the neighborhood and regional assemblies. It seems likely that Young was overlooking the inevitable conflict between feminism supporting “gynocentric” point of view, and multiculturalism representing ethnic and national-oriented point of view, because at the time of her investigations and conceptualizing her model society (the end of 80s in US and Canada) the discrepancy between minorities’ and mainstream cultures in matters of gender was not very large. The situation changed later, after a massive immigration of people representing cultures much deeper and more aggressive in their patriarchic and sexist cultural rules and norms.

The article exhibits the Postmodern consciousness and changes that are still taking place within the Western societies. The last four–five years had brought new challenges to the political system and these had been surprisingly supported by the significant portions of population, the event deemed impossible only six–seven years ago. The slightly similar in its surprising success change was the accent of Neoliberalism, the theory of which, previously had been perceived only as a theory but suddenly there was “No Alternative” as was famously put by Margaret Thatcher, the “Iron Lady”. This event, came as a surprise as, for instance, not many expected the success of Neoliberalism due to the public outcry. However, the outcry had not been wild at all. In contemporary time, however, the change is coming from the substantial part of the populace which was indeed surprising. The article, therefore, aims to bring to the fore the Postmodern consciousness that might have played a decisive role in the social and political turbulence of last years and is correlated to the rise of the right and the rise of populism. The article also sheds light on the scientific discourse within Political Sociology on Postmodern trends in the Western societies.

The aim of the article is to describe the empowerment process and its implementation in social work in the context of counteracting social exclusion in youth and adults based on the example of the project carried out in the years 2014-2016, titled: “Development of the empowerment of educators and beneficiaries in the field of youth at risk and social exclusion”,  co-financed from European Union funds within the Erasmus + programme, Action 2: Strategic partnership of professional teaching and training, Grant No. 2014-1-FR01-KA2026-008728. The English language concept category of empowerment, which does not have a satisfactory equivalent term in the Polish language, was operationalised in this article. The essence of empowerment in the context of social work was described in the article, pointing to its significance mainly in the scope of counteracting the process of youth and adult social exclusion. Furthermore, the main assumptions of the implemented international project were set out in the ambit of the development of the empowerment of educators as well as of beneficiaries working with persons at risk of social exclusion, and the relationship and reflections of one of the project participants were also shown. An attempt was made in the article on the basis of the experiences gathered within the performance of the international research project to assess the course of the empowerment process and its usefulness in searching for solutions for educational practices in the domain of the social exclusion phenomenon.

The aim of the article is to identify the development of the concept of social diagnosis that took place and takes place in social pedagogy. In this discipline, from the very beginning of its existence, the concepts of environmental diagnosis were developed as an activity preceding the necessary social action changing – improving the social world. The area of research are the concepts of social diagnosis developed in social pedagogy by the main creators of this discipline – from the beginnings of its existence up to modern times. The analysis of reconstructed concepts shows that the social diagnosis undertaken in social pedagogy applies to both individuals and social groups – it identifies the environmental conditions of their life and functioning. Most often it concerns such areas as social conditions, participation in culture but also educational conditions and possibilities. It would be necessary to deepen the social diagnosis – also in the sphere of psychological experiences of the participants of social life and the level of their life – also showing new educational environments and their determinants.

In the recent years, the Internet has become an important source of information and also a place where tourists document their travels and share their experiences using social media. On the one hand, the activity of people on the Internet corresponds to the needs of information society and systematic digitalisation of contemporary tourism. On the other hand, the constantly broadening access to new technologies in various aspects of life is accompanied by negative phenomena like information or communication overload and digital addiction. Hence, the study of the needs of tourists in the use of social media while travelling was chosen as the objective of this paper. To achieve this objective, a focus group study was conducted. As it transpired, the opinions of the tourists were diverse, ranging from enthusiasm and interest through severe criticism.

Recent Shakespearean productions, just like current European crises, have highlighted the exclusionary nature of European identity. In defining the scope of this special issue, the aim of this introduction is to shift the study of Shakespeare in/and Europe away from the ideological field of “unity within diversity” and its attendant politics of negotiation and mediation. Instead, it investigates whether re-situating Shakespearean analysis within regimes of exclusionary politics and group conflict attitudes helps to generate dynamic cultural and social understandings. To what effect is Shakespeare’s work invoked in relation with the tensions inherent in European societies? Can such invocations encourage reflections on Europe as a social, political and/or cultural entity? Is it possible to conceptualize Shakespearean drama as offering an effective instrument that connects―or not―the voices of the people of Europe?

According to the self-expansion model, people are motivated to increase their sense of personal agency by expanding their sense of self through the acquisition of new identities. We conducted two studies to explore whether the feeling of self-expansion, resulting from multiple group memberships, is related to self-efficacy, and to test whether agentic and communal self-stereotyping mediated this relation. In Study 1 conducted in Poland (N1 = 102), and Study 2 among undergraduate students from Poland, Spain, and Sweden (N2 = 450), a significant indirect effect of self-expansion on self-efficacy through agentic (but not communal) self-stereotyping emerged.

Previous research showed that children can exhibit preferences for social categories already at preschool age. One of the crucial factors in the development of children’s attitudes toward others is children’s observation and imitation of adults’ nonverbal messages. The aim of our study is to examine whether children’s tendency to perceive and follow nonverbally expressed attitudes toward other people is related to ingroup bias, i.e. the tendency to favor one’s own group over other groups. We examined 175 preschool children (age in months: 61–87; M = 72.6, SD = 6.53) presenting them with a video of a conversation between a message sender and a message recipient. The study was conducted in a minimal group paradigm. We found that children accurately identified the message sender’s attitude toward the recipient and also generalized this attitude to other members of the new group. We also found explicit ingroup bias among children from the message sender’s group. However, no generalization of the sender’s attitude to other ingroup members was found. The results are discussed in reference to previous findings on the role of imitation of adult’s non-verbal behavior for the development of social attitudes among children.

This article is an attempt to respond to the above problems and, using the example of the Catholic Church in Poland, shows the possibility of instilling a model of self-help groups for specialist pastoral care involving people experiencing life crises and wanting more intense religious development.

Innovation is one of key factors for the socio-economic development highlighted by researchers. While the literature of the subject is full of studies on innovation, reports and analyses usually concern the enterprise sector. This publication presents a comparison between the innovation potential in the Visegrad countries with particular focus on the agricultural sector in terms of social capital. For the purpose of analysis, the OECD, ESS and EUROSTAT databases were used. The results of analyses confirmed a positive relationship between trust and innovation activity with regard to the whole economy and to the agricultural sector. Therefore, the results of the studies point to possibilities of innovationoriented measures aimed at building social capital, especially as Poland records the lowest levels of trust in the Visegrad Group.

Opis:
This paper explores the social structures of late medieval Vlachs – particularly the ones inhabiting the Western Balkans (the Dinaric Alps) – in order to determine how collective identities were shaped and reproduced in medieval oral cultures. Southeast European historiographies have often portrayed the Balkan Vlachs as a unitary group and the label „Vlach” as representing a single, homogenous social entity during most of the Middle Ages. Still, social groups cannot exist and function without regular communication – oral or written – between their members. Oral cultures are based on verbal communication and are therefore bound by its specific nature, given that it requires continuous personal contact and oral transfer of information for communication and society to function properly. Literate cultures on the other hand tend to rely on written communication to a considerable extent and given that it allows for information to be conveyed impersonally (by text) its range is (at least in theory) almost limitless – as it is the level of (il)literacy that represents the main communicative and social limit in literate societies. Having in mind the abovementioned communicative and social limits of orality and the fact that it was the predominant if not exclusive form of communication among transhumant pastoralists such as the medieval Balkan Vlachs this paper argues that the range/scope of their group identities and collective identifications was rather limited. Furthermore, this paper discusses the types of collective identities utilized by Vlachs, questioning whether they ever shared a common „Vlach identity” given the fact that the social identity of the medieval people known as „the Vlachs” was primarily shaped and defined from the „outside” and „above” – by state intervention and a legal frame that was forced upon them. The Vlachs in the Medieval Balkans, and particularly in its western part, generally did not possess political authority and power, nor did they have the material resources and literary traditions allowing them to form more complex and enduring communication networks that would in turn have resulted in group identity formation on a larger scale. During the Early Middle Ages the Vlachs were „Vlachs” primarily because they were labelled as such and considered to be a distinct category of population by their Slavic (and later Byzantine) neighbours and overlords, and not necessarily because they originally defined themselves as such. This is not to say that gradually, during the course of the Middle Ages, the bearers of the „Vlach” name could not have started to identify themselves as „Vlachs” by accepting this foreign name (xenonym) as their preferred group name (autonym). Still, when this finally did happen it did not imply a „universal” Vlach identity in the medieval Balkans. Given the communicative limits of oral cultures as well as the Vlachs’ position as legal and political „objects” rather than „subjects” it seems most likely that the medieval Balkans witnessed a simultaneous existence of a multitude of „Vlachnesses” which were usually unrelated and unaware of each other.
