Opis:
This article presents a simulation study of the suspension system in a vehicle that weighs approximately 12 tons (class N2). The authors have tested the influence of experimentally determined values of friction coefficients on the energy dissipated in the multi-leaf spring. The study was carried out using finite element analysis with LS-DYNA software. A nonlinear vibration model of the complete spring was developed, including the variable friction forces between the leafs. The model takes into account the sprung and unsprung mass of the chassis. Numerical tests were carried out using three different coefficients of friction (determined experimentally) for a selected speed of the car. Random realizations of the road micro-profile (type A, B, C) recommended by ISO 8608 were used. The results of the tests were presented in the form of acceleration curves in the vertical direction, comparative plots of daily vibration exposure A(8) and vibration transmission coefficient (T), and the distributions of RMS acceleration in frequency of one-third octave bands. This data was used to assess the quality of the vibration isolation system between the front suspension of the vehicle and the driver’s seat.

Opis:
In order to increase the child's safety when traveling in a passenger car, special child seats are used to minimize the child's injuries in a car accident. The aim of the article is to discuss the topic of design solutions for child seats. It should be noted that child seats are built in order to increase the safety of the transported child during a car accident. Child seats are crash-tested. Unfortunately, no tests related to vibration comfort are carried out. Undoubtedly, attention should be paid to the vertical vibrations that penetrate from the road surface, through the structure of the passenger car, to the seat of the child seat. Vibration comfort is particularly important in the case of long journeys. Because the current child seats on the market are adjusted only to the mass and age of the child. Choosing the right car seat is not a simple task. Not every child will feel comfortable in a seat adapted only to mass and age. The anthropometric dimensions of the child are of great importance. Therefore, more and more child seats are created that allow you to change the position of the backrest or seat in such a way as to ensure both the safety and comfort of the child during the journey.

The article presents the results of research on the assessment of vibrational comfort of children carried in child seats. The work analyzes the impact of the child's mass and the speed of the car passing through the speed bump on the level of vibration to which the passenger (child) transported in the child seat mounted on the rear seat of the car is exposed. The tested car seats were installed in a passenger car using the ISOfix base. During the tests, the measured values were the acceleration of the seat child seat, the backrest of the child seat, the rear seat of the car and the child seat ISOfix base. As part of the research, car drive through the speed bump were carried out at different car speeds and with different mass simulating the mass of a child. The test results were analyzed in order to determine the magnitude of vibrations generated during car drive through the speed bump. Based on the results obtained, the level of vibrational comfort of a child trip in a child seat was assessed.

Opis:
The paper concerns the application of fuzzy logic to the control of a magnetorheological fluid damper (MR damper) employed in a driver's seat support. The seat is modeled as a 1 DOF system to which a generalized model of an MR damper valid for fluctuating magnetic fields is attached. The performance of the feedback system with a fuzzy controller is tested in computer simulations and compared with the performance of an open loop system and the feedback system with an on-off controller. The obtained results are verified in laboratory experiments. For this purpose, the on-off and fuzzy real-time controllers for the MR damper are developed in integrated design and control envirinment of MATLAB/Simulink. The advantages of fuzzy control are proved in experimental investigations.
W artykule przedstawiono zastosowanie logiki rozmytej do sterowania tłumika magnetoreologicznego (tłumika MR) w zawieszeniu fotela kierowcy. Fotel zamodelowano jako układ o jednym stopniu swobody, do którego dołączono uogólniony model tłumika MR uwzględniający fluktuacje pola magnetycznego. W symulacjach komputerowych porównano działanie układu ze sprzężeniem zwrotnym z regulatorem rozmytym i regulatorem dwupołożeniowym. Wyniki symulacji zweryfikowano w badaniach laboratoryjnych. W tym celu zrealizowano regulatory czasu rzeczywistego (rozmyty i dwupołożeniowy) w środowisku projektowania i sterowania MATLAB/Simulink. Zalety regulatora sprawdzono eksperymentalnie.

A field study was done to evaluate different seat designs in the aspect of minimizing vibration transmission and reducing the level of discomfort experienced by drivers subjected to transient vibration. Two seat designs (sliding or fixed in the horizontal direction) were compared in an experimental based on variation of sitting posture, speed, and type of obstacle. The comparison was done by assessing discomfort and perceived motion and by vibration measurement. Ten professional drivers were used as participants. Maximum Transient Vibration Value and Vibration Dose Value were used in the evaluation. The results showed that a sliding seat is superior in attenuating vibration containing transient vibration in the horizontal direction. It was also perceived as giving less overall and low back discomfort compared to a fixed seat.

Opis:
The biggest dangers that may result from human exposure to vibrations caused by vehicle movement occur in automotive transport [6]. The vibrations experienced during vehicle ride may cause a variety of pathological symptoms arising in people. The adverse health effects may also include reduced motion control, blurred vision, or impairment of the ability of free communication, memory processes, or perception [6]. The paper covers the impact of vertical vibrations on a baby riding in a safety seat in a car, with addressing in particular the dangers caused by mechanical vibrations to children in transport facilities. Two options were considered, with the safety seat being installed on either the front or rear car seat. Experimental road tests were carried out with using a dummy representing the baby. The lack of research work on this issue has been emphasised. For the sake of maximum safety, babies should be transported in safety seats. The type approval tests of child safety seats are chiefly focused on the evaluation of protection from harmful collision effects, according to UN ECE Regulation No. 44 [S13]. Regrettably, they do not include tests to determine the influence of vibrations, especially those occurring during “normal” ride, on the child’s body.

Opis:
During work, earth-moving machines generate significant levels of noise and vibration that can be harmful for the operators; therefore the analysis of the noise and vibration conditions at the driving position is of great importance for the risk assessment. Compact loaders have become a pressing challenge as they are extremely hazardous referring to noise and vibration emissions, especially in their crawler version where further relevant noise and vibration are generated by the hard contact between track belt and ground. This paper reports the results of investigations carried out on three crawler compact loaders in different operating conditions. The main purpose was to investigate the noise and vibration values transmitted to the operators in some working conditions and use these data to obtain reliable estimates of the exposure to noise, to whole-body and to hand-arm transmitted vibrations, as well as to evaluate the related risk levels. Vibration signals transmitted to the operator were acquired on the seat and the machine control lever in accordance with the procedures specified in ISO 2631-1 and ISO 5349-1. At the same time, noise signals were acquired at the operator’s ear following the procedure reported in ISO 11201. Vibration signals were also acquired on the cabin floor with the main purpose to evaluate the effectiveness of the machine seats in reducing the vibration transmission. Finally, the noise and vibration exposure risks were evaluated on the basis of the health and safety requirements established in 2003/10/EC and 2002/44/EC Directives.

Opis:
Combustion engines drive motor vehicles, which are commonly used, and their efficiency does not exceed forty per cent. It is hard to accept such a waste of energy nowadays when there is less and less fossil fuel and the ecological norms are being tightened. That is why hybrid power transmission systems and systems for energy recuperation - especially kinetic, so far being lost – are becoming more popular. One of such solutions is a unit to recover energy from a driver's seat vibration in a motor vehicle. It allows changing the kinetic energy of the vibrating seat into the electric one. Such a unit is installed under the driver's seat and supports the gaseous shock absorber. The unit consists of two toothed bars, coupled by two pairs of gear wheels, which drive the alternating current generator rotor. The rotor is joined with a driving shaft by one-way centrifugal clutches. One bar drives the rotor while the seat moves down and the other - while the seat moves up. The rotor is equipped with permanent magnets, which, by rotation, induce the power in the stator's winding. The generated power goes through the voltage stabilizing and rectification systems (4.75-5.25 V) and charges four batteries connected to USB output. The obtained electric energy may be used to supply other electronic devices, e.g. mobile phones. The unit will be installed in a farm tractor. The research checking the unit's effectiveness will be carried out in the near future.

Opis:
The effects of vibration transmissibility using high order biodynamic models of four, five and seven degrees of freedom that can replicate a human body exposed to vibration transmissibility while driving was investigated to identify resonant frequencies associated with injury. It was found that these models address vehicle seat deformities and represent the body hop motion when driving. The five degree of freedom models provided the best results to approximate resonant frequencies associated with the legs, lower torso, spine and whole body vibration at the seat person interface, while the driver's hands were on the steering and was supported with a backrest. The four degree of freedom model excluding the backrest was able to replicate experimental data and a sensitivity analysis of the stiffness and damping parameters indicated that this model was more robust compared to the others, and could predict whole body vibration to accommodate for intra subject variability. Non-linear damping and stiffness properties were noticed for acceleration magnitudes greater than 1g root mean square (rms) and for high order models, which provide greater anatomical description to predict injury in contrast to simple models that have large lumped masses to represent the upper and lower torso. In addition, biodynamic models greater than seven degrees of freedom can be utilised with non-linear stiffness and damping techniques to predict vibration and impedance behaviour for greater number of body ligaments applied to old seats or retrofit seat design applications.

The springing support in a driver’s seat is a very serious issue, such that manufacturers are increasing their efforts to optimize the dynamic properties of this kind of seat. The main optimization criterion is vibration insulation efficiency with regard to health research and associated health standards and regulations. This article deals with the definition of the optimal driver’s seat properties in relation to two examples of springing systems with different kinds of damping. The first case involves the springing support of a driver’s seat that uses a pneumatic spring and a telescopic hydraulic damper. In the second case, the damping effect is achieved by two pneumatic springs whose forces effect a phase shift due to a throttle valve located in the connecting piping system.

Opis:
A model and control strategy of a semi-active seat suspension system with a magneto-rheological (MR) damper, chiefly intended to protect construction machine operators from vibration acting in one of the horizontal directions, has been presented. The parameters of the model shown were determined experimentally as functions of the damper control current, for which a control algorithm imitating the operation of a sky-hook damper (a damper hanging from an inertial reference point) was developed. Afterwards, the model proposed was verified on a test stand with an electrohydraulic actuator and then the semi-active seat suspension system was experimentally tested with the participation of a human subject. Results of the work carried out have been presented in the form of power spectral densities of vibration accelerations and transfer functions of the suspension system. Based on a qualitative assessment of the test results obtained, the operation of the semi-active seat suspension system was found to be far more effective than that of a conventional system in the excitation frequency range under consideration. Noteworthy is the fact that the highest effectiveness of the system operation was achieved at the resonance frequency, corresponding to that of the passive system. This is confirmed by the tabulated values of vibration transfer coefficients and maximum relative displacements of the seat suspension system in the conventional passive version and in the semi-active version provided with an MR damper.
Potwierdzają to zestawione tabelarycznie wartości współczynników przenoszenia drgań i maksymalnych przemieszczeń względnych zawieszenia w przypadku konwencjonalnego układu pasywnego oraz układu semi-aktywnego z tłumikiem MR.
