Opis:
Due to the rising demand for individualized product specifications and short product innovation cycles, industrial robots gain increasing attention for machining operations as milling and forming. Limitations in their absolute positional accuracy are addressed by enhanced modelling and calibration techniques. However, the resulting absolute positional accuracy stays in a range still not feasible for general purpose milling and forming tolerances. Improvements of the model accuracy demand complex, often not accessible system knowledge on the expense of realtime capability. This article presents a new approach using artificial neural networks to enhance positional accuracy of industrial robots. A hyperparameter optimization is applied, to overcome the downside of choosing an appropriate artificial neural network structure and training strategy in a trial and error procedure. The effectiveness of the method is validated with a heavy-duty industrial robot. It is demonstrated that artificial neural networks with suitable hyperparameters outperform a kinematic model with calibrated geometric parameters.

Opis:
Screw axis measurement methods obtain a precise identification of the physical reality of the industrial robots’ geometry. However, these methods are in a clear disadvantage compared to mathematical optimisation processes for kinematical parameters. That’s because mathematical processes obtain kinematical parameters which best reduce the robot errors, despite not necessarily representing the real geometry of the robot. This paper takes the next step at the identification of a robot’s movement from the identification of its real kinematical parameters for the later study of every articulation’s rotation. We then obtain a combination of real kinematic and dynamic parameters which describe the robot’s movement, improving its precision with a physical understanding of the errors.

Opis:
Calibration is necessary for dual manipulator to complete operational tasks. This paper proposes an effective robot-robot and hand-eye calibration method based on virtual constraints. Firstly, a rotational error model and a translational error model are established based on the relationships between the transformation matrices of the dual manipulator calibration system. Then a poses-alignment method is designed to make the poses of the two robots satisfy the constructed virtual constraints. At the aligned positions, the joint angles of the two robots are saved and used to calculate the values of the variables in the error models. Finally, the robot-robot and hand-eye rotational errors are estimated by an iterative algorithm. These errors are then used to calculate translational errors based on the SVD (singular value decomposition) method. To show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method, experiments of robot-robot and hand-eye calibration for dual manipulators are performed. The experiment results demonstrate that the accuracy of the dual manipulator system is improved greatly.

Opis:
In this paper, a method for calibrating the sensory system of a walking robot is proposed. The robot is equipped with two exteroceptive sensors: a 2D laser scanner and a stereo camera. When using the CAD model of the robot, the positions of both sensors defined in the robot's body reference frame can only be determined with limited precision. Our goal is to create a method which allows the robot to find the position of the mounted sensors without the need for human input. The presented results show that the method is not only fast but also more precise than calibration using the CAD model.

Opis:
In this paper, a Mecanum wheel omnidirectional robotic platform made for taking measurements in harsh and dangerous conditions is introduced. Due to the necessity of highly accurate displacement of the platform for measuring the conditions at the exact measurement point and due to known Mecanum wheel slippage and relatively poor position accuracy, a calibration procedure for minimizing positioning error had to be implemented. For this task, a highly accurate stereographic digital image correlation (DIC) system was used to measure platform displacement. A series of parameters, namely linear maximum velocity and acceleration/deceleration values, were taken into account during the calibration procedure to find the best combination allowing precise movement of the robot. It was found that low acceleration values were the main causes of the robot’s poor positioning accuracy and could cause the robot’s motors to stall. Max speed values proved to have little effect on the robot’s positioning.
