    Opis:
    Purpose: To propose a framework for choosing a project management approach for student research projects, taking into account the individual objectives of the advisor and the student, their personalities, the project type, and its environment. The proposed approach should increase the success rate of student research projects. Design/methodology/approach: Student research projects are characterized, and the relevant literature is reviewed. The theory concerning recent project management developments that could be potentially useful for student research projects is presented. A case study is analyzed. On the basis of the case study and the literature findings, a conceptual framework for the selection of a student research project management approach is proposed. Findings: It was found that student research projects, although apparently nonproblematic, need a conscious, individualized, situation-based selection of project management approach in order to assure a high success rate, according to the individual success understanding of project stakeholders. Research limitations/implications: The proposed framework is a conceptual one. It was developed on the basis of theory and under consideration of student research projects in one area and homogenous culture. Further research is needed to add new aspects to the approach, expand it to other research areas and cultures, and validate its usefulness in practice. Practical implications: Higher education institutions should promote project management knowledge among teachers and students, and conscious decision-making on the way student research projects will be performed. They should elaborate tailor-made frameworks for student research project management. Social implications: Student research projects, if managed improperly, may cause students and advisors dissatisfaction and stress. The approach we propose may, in the long term, increase the quality of life of students and advisors. Originality/value: The framework supporting the conscious selection of the way student research projects are managed, comprising recent developments in project management and taking into account the specific features and environment of each individual project, is an original contribution of the paper. It is addressed both to student project advisors and students themselves, as well as the managers of higher educational institutions.

    Dynamic development of economy based on knowledge poses new challenges for science and Polish companies. One of these challenges is striving to boost the utilization of potential of labor, knowledge and capital in order to build up new forms of competitive advantage. Authors of the article emphasize that new solution, in order to be commercialized, should have, apart from innovative technical characteristics, a market potential strong enough to attract capital for further research and development. The commercialization of technologies and research results is a road map for scientists working on new solutions and for business and public administration supporting the development of technology. In an era of rapid dissemination of innovations, expert knowledge on the assessment of economic value of a research project is a key factor facilitating the development of new technologies. Growth of spending on research and development is very important for creating conditions for competitiveness of research projects, but proper assessment of possibilities of implementation as well as the model of cooperation of R&D sector with business on transfer and commercialization of technology also play a very important role. Cooperation of many environments, exchange of information, using resources together bring greater effects from comparable expenses.

    This article presents specifi c characteristics of large international research projects in the area of security and defence. It is based on the experience of the authors gathered while managing international research projects realised within 7th EU Framework Programme, European Defence Agency (EDA) programmes etc. The issues of project size, international and research character are described in the article. Specifi c elements that characterise projects in security and defence fi eld are also identifi ed and discussed. Finally selected key factors determining the success of such projects are mentioned.

    The aim of the article is to answer two research questions concerning the influence of organizational factors and shape of project portfolio on the content and scope, as well as on the stakeholders engagement in project planning. The research strategy included a questionnairebased method. The respondents were representatives of the chosen companies located in Poland, from varied types of industries. The key research finding is that most frequently addressed areas of project planning are those of the iron-triangle of project constraints. There is still lack of understanding for communication, risk and quality planning in projects, which is consonant with recent studies of maturity in project management areas. There are significant differences between industries in terms of areas of project planning. Power engineering seems to be more mature in terms of more frequent practices of planning the project schedule, resources and risk. The research showed a number of significant correlations between components of project planning and both organizational and project portfolio factors, which justifies the statement that those factors can be seen as determinants of project planning practices.

    This article pertains to a research project carried out by an interdisciplinary team. What distinguished this project from others performed in market or academic conditions was voluntary participation of the members of the research team. This is a situation which requires constant review of the teaching habits as well as creativity and skilful use of soft competences in order to keep the team in its initial composition and give it an incentive to work.     Purpose: The dynamic economic changes in recent years have made the principles of sustainable development gain more and more importance and there is a great need to maintain a balance in the social, environmental, and economic dimensions. This has also been observed in project management, whereby the concept of sustainable project management plays an important role in both practice and science. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in scientific publications on the concept of sustainable project management. The article presents the assumptions of sustainability in a project and the identification of research directions in this area. The study aims to present the results of the literature review and answer the two research questions: which research areas related to sustainable project management dominate the literature and what are the further research directions in the field of sustainable project management? Design/methodology/approach: The study was conducted based on a literature review in the field of sustainable project management and sustainability in project management. Scientific articles indexed in the Scopus database, published before 2022, were used. A keyword analysis was carried out, on the basis of which subject areas related to sustainable project management were distinguished, and the most cited articles were reviewed to extract recommendations for the directions of future research. Findings: The literature review, taking into account sustainable project management, show that project lifecycle, project success, and risk management are dominated research topic in the articles. Further research directions suggested in the literature indicate, inter alia, to extend the scope of research on sustainable project management to different countries and sectors. Originality/value: The literature review is based on the most recent publications. Moreover, in addition to the traditional literature review, keywords were analyzed and other research directions were analyzed, which was rarely seen in publications that focused mainly on the synthesis of conclusions.

    Purpose: The purpose of this article was to identify current development directions and potential research gaps in project management. Design/methodology/approach: The method of systematic review of articles published in the Elsevier - Science Direct database in the years 2000-2019 was used, where the search phrase was “project management” and the type of articles was “research articles”. In order to answer the research questions posed, an additional method of analysis and criticism of the literature was used. Findings: The following conclusions were drawn from the analysis of the articles: a) almost a third of them concerned the practical application of PM issues in one clearly defined sector of the economy, with the most common reference being to the building sector and IS/IT, b) most articles were created in English-speaking countries (47%), c) the largest number of articles concerned the area of human resource (HR) management, including many subjects of qualifications and leadership, d) of the ten areas of knowledge specified in PMBoK, “HR” and “scheduling/time” were the most popular, followed by risk-related issues. Practical implications: The findings of this article would contribute to building a strong and coherent theory and identify best practices in project management. Originality/value: The most important achievement is the recognition of two areas of knowledge - lean management and game theory - where little research has been done so far, and whose solutions and methods could be successfully implemented inside PM.

    Programs are collections of projects related to a common goal. Scheduling programs follow other rules than scheduling projects. Even when projects in programs are connected logically, simple methods as the critical path method (CPM) cannot always be used. This paper has the following objectives: to describe the problem of scheduling programs and use the multi-criteria approach to scheduling projects in it. Using a system approach, after analyzing project-scheduling solutions in literature, we applied them appropriately to determine the schedule of the project. The approach was verified using an example taken from the literature on the subject.

    The paper presents a method of simplified evaluation based on the concept of the threshold (minimum) value of economic effects, i.e. the value covering capitalised project expenditures constituting the basis for estimating the rate of economic efficiency for different variants of R&D project implementation. The usefulness of the proposed method was assessed using the example of a research unit conducting advanced research and development activity in the area of technical solutions and their deployment in the field of electro-technical equipment and systems. The proposed method of assessing the economic potential can be used for the preliminary assessment of the project in the phase of the preparation of the project concept, when the research unit seeks to select project variants, as well as in the subsequent phases of the project implementation (at the designated checkpoints of the R&D project), when the research unit is focused on effectively managing the research process, making the decision on the continuation or termination of research activity.
    W artykule przedstawiono metodę uproszczonej oceny opartej na koncepcji wartości granicznej (minimalnej) efektów ekonomicznych, czyli wartości pokrywającej zaktualizowane nakłady na projekt, stanowiącej podstawę szacowania stopy efektywności ekonomicznej dla wariantów realizacji projektów B+R. Oceny przydatności proponowanej metody dokonano na przykładzie jednostki badawczej prowadzącej zaawansowane prace badawczo-rozwojowe i wdrożeniowe nad rozwiązaniami technicznymi w dziedzinie urządzeń i systemów elektrotechnicznych. Proponowana metoda oceny potencjału komercyjnego może być stosowana zarówno w ramach oceny wstępnej projektu, jak i w fazie przygotowania koncepcji projektu, gdy podmiot badawczy stara się wybrać warianty realizacji oraz po poszczególnych etapach realizacji projektu (w punktach kontrolnych projektu B+R), gdy podmiot badawczy stara się skutecznie zarządzać procesem badawczym rozstrzygając o kontynuowaniu lub wstrzymaniu prac badawczych.

    Assessment and management of risk constitute the subject of many researches. Nevertheless, many more specific factors are applicable during the implementation of innovative technological projects. On the article identified risk factors, which have been supplemented, systematized and assigned to the individual risk categories. The risk assessment methods for R&D projects have been analysed, as well as the risk sheets have been developed for the R&D project through the use of dotProject application. Also shown that networking and clustering is a change for fruitful cooperation within difference EU projects, which create trust between business and sciences and reduce the risk.

    The article presents the experience of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University in the implementation of crisis management of scientific projects during the war and under the conditions of occupation. Based on experience, the authors show the problems and challenges Ukrainian scientists to face in occupied cities and territories where active hostilities are taking place. Based on the analysis of the current situation and the survey of scientists of the BSPU participating in the scientific projects’ implementation, the main factors that prevent scientific research implementation have been established. The authors present their own vision of crisis management during wartime, identify risks, and offer tools for their minimization. Next, the authors analyse the effectiveness of the measures taken. The article is useful for managers of all levels, because it raises important questions about the stability of the functioning of the science and education system in force majeure circumstances.
    W artykule przedstawiono doświadczenia Państwowego Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego w Berdiańsku, dotyczące wprowadzania kryzysowego zarządzania projektami naukowymi, w czasie wojny i w warunkach okupacji. Bazując na własnym doświadczeniu, pokazujemy problemy i wyzwania, przed którymi stoją ukraińscy naukowcy w okupowanych miastach i na terytoriach, na których toczą się aktywne działania wojenne. Na podstawie analizy obecnej sytuacji oraz ankiety przeprowadzonej wśród naukowców Państwowego Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego w Berdiańsku, uczestniczących w realizacji projektów naukowych, ustalono główne czynniki uniemożliwiające realizację badań naukowych. Przedstawiamy naszą wizję zarządzania kryzysowego w czasie wojny, identyfikujemy zagrożenia i oferujemy narzędzia do ich minimalizacji. Następnie analizujemy skuteczność podjętych działań. Artykuł jest przydatny dla menedżerów wszystkich szczebli, ponieważ stawia ważne pytania o stabilność funkcjonowania systemu nauki i edukacji w warunkach siły wyższej.
