Opis:
The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of volume ratio of heat rejection process on the performance of dual cycle. Using finite-time thermodynamics, the relations between the volume ratio of heat rejection, the thermal efficiency, the power output, the heat transfer losses, the friction power and the compression ratio for an air standard Atkinson cycle have been derived. In the model, the nonlinear relation between the specific heats of working fluid and its temperature, the frictional loss and heat leakage loss are considered. The results show that the power output and the thermal efficiency first increase with the increase of volume ratio of heat rejection process and then start to decrease. The optimum value of the volume ratio of heat rejection which maximizes the power output is higher than that which maximizes the thermal efficiency, while the optimum value of the compression ratio which maximizes the power output is lower than that which maximizes the thermal efficiency. The results obtained in the present study provide guidance to the performance evaluation and improvement for practical internal combustion engines.

Consensus problems for high-order continuous-time swarm systems in directed networks with time delays, uncertainties and external disturbances are investigated. Firstly, the state space of a swarm system is decomposed into a consensus subspace (CS) and a complement consensus space (CCS). A necessary and sufficient condition for the system with time delays and uncertainties to achieve consensus is presented based on the state projection on CCS, and an explicit expression of the consensus function is shown on the basis of the state projection on CS. Then, a sufficient condition for the system to achieve consensus with a desired L2 performance is given. Finally, numerical simulations are shown to demonstrate theoretical results.

The effect of mineral salt on the reactive dye removal was evaluated by using flat ultrafiltration (UF) membranes made of polyethersulfone (PES) and regenerated cellulose (C). Five reactive dyes varied in molecular weight (Reactive Orange 16, Remazol Brilliant Blue R, Reactive Orange 20, Reactive Black 5, Reactive Read 120) were used in the UF experiments. The applied membranes were characterized by the cut-off value equal to 10 kDa. The ultrafiltration process was performed in a dead-end mode under the transmembrane pressure of 0.2 MPa. Dye concentration in model solutions was equal to 100 mg/dm3. Two various mineral salts (NaCl and Na2SO4) were chosen to simulate the composition of dye-house baths. The concentration of monovalent and divalent salt in model dye solutions amounted to 1–2 g/dm3. Transport and separation properties of the UF membranes towards reactive dyes and mineral salts were evaluated. It was found that the separation efficiency of all tested dyes was dependent on the mineral salt presence. The effect of mineral salt on dye retention was more pronounced for membrane made of regenerated cellulose (C) than for polyethersulfone membrane (PES). In the case of the C membrane the dye retention coefficients varied in the wide range – from 55 to 83%, whereas for PES membrane the degree of dye separation was less diverse and amounted to 81–96%. The presence of mineral salt in water and dye solutions generally worsen the membrane permeability due to osmotic pressure increase as well as enhancing adsorptive fouling of dye particles in membrane matrix.

The paper investigates the relations between Schwartz’s values and beliefs which may reflect skepticism toward science – specifically vaccine rejection, climate change denial and creationism. Recent research on the causes of anti-science indicates that they may be motivational, pertaining to ideologies, worldviews, and one’s moral codes. Therefore, we postulated that value priority hierarchies hierarchies may be predictors of anti-science. Results (N = 509) indicated that Conservation metatype values were positively associated with anti-science, while Self-Transcendence and Openness to change metatypes were connected with support for science. We also found significant differences in value profiles between participants with lower vs. higher anti-scientific beliefs. We discuss the possible motivational underpinnings of these results.

Minority stress theory explains psychological vulnerability in sexual minorities; however, data is scarce in the Central and Eastern European region. Combining the minority stress model with the Psychological Mediation Framework, we tested a theoretically developed path model. Participants were 1452 (Mage = 24.9 years) Czech sexual-minority individuals (38.7% gay, 27.1% lesbian, 18.7% bisexual women). The model explained 55.5% of the variance of psychological distress in the overall sample, representing a total effect of 9.75% (p < .001) increase in measurement units by the modeled associations. Within the subsamples, the associations were similar between harassment and rejection, stigma awareness, and rejection sensitivity, as well as emotional dysregulation, rumination, and psychological distress. However, internalized homonegativity was a stronger factor of psychological well-being in gay men and lesbian women than in bisexual women. Bisexual women may have experienced less social support and more emotional dysregulation due to more concealment and rejection sensitivity, respectively. While we confirmed that the minority stress model applies to the Czech context and explained well psychological distress in sexual minorities, our data highlights notable differences between bisexual women who reported highest rates of distress compared to gay men and lesbian women.

Opis:
This paper presents a practical verification of an Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) method in governing a multidimensional system. The experiments were conducted on a two degrees of a freedom planar manipulator with only partial knowledge about the mathematical model of the plant. This multi input multi output system was controlled with a set of two, independent, single input single output ADRC controllers, each regulating one of the manipulator degree of freedom. Modeling uncertainty (nonlinearities, cross-coupling effects, etc.) and external disturbances were assumed to be a part of the disturbance, to be estimated with an observer and cancelled on-line in the control loop. The ADRC robustness was experimentally compared with the results obtained from using two decentralized, classic PID controllers. Both control methods were tested under various conditions, e.g. changing the inertial parameters of the plant. Significantly better results, in terms of parametric robustness, have been reported for the ADRC approach.

Opis:
In this paper, an extended Historical Data (HD) design was applied for evaluating the effect of an acetonized pyrolysis oil (PO) produced by pyrolysis of spent-car tires in coal. Experimental and statistical analyses were applied for examining the influence of some operating variables such as concentration of diesel oil (0, 10, and 20 L/t), pine oil (0.55, 0.1, and 1 L/t), and the pyrolysis oil (0, 10, and 20 L/t) as well as solid content of pulp (5, 10, and 15% (w/w)) on the yield and ash content of final concentrate. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) measurements showed that PO contained hydroxyl, aldehyde, aliphatic, and aromatic compounds. Based on the results of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), the main effect of all variables, except concentration of pine oil, on the flotation responses were found significant. Batch flotation experimental results indicated that using pyrolysis oil resulted in a 2% increase in ash content and a 35% decrease of the yield, through a nonlinear trend. The curved behavior of flotation measures was due to the possible competitive adsorption between PO and diesel oil and nonselective interaction between pyrolysis oil and other reagents. The negative effect of PO on coal flotation efficiency was also ascribed to the interaction between hydrophilic groups in PO structure and the oxide nature of non-combustible materials of coal particles.

Opis:
Autonomous vehicles are the most advanced intelligent vehicles and will play an important role in reducing traffic accidents, saving energy and reducing emission. Motion control for trajectory tracking is one of the core issues in the field of autonomous vehicle research. According to the characteristics of strong nonlinearity, uncertainty and changing longitudinal velocity for autonomous vehicles at high speed steering condition, the robust trajectory tracking control is studied. Firstly, the vehicle system models are established and the novel target longitudinal velocity planning is carried out. This velocity planning method can not only ensure that the autonomous vehicle operates in a strong nonlinear coupling state in bend, but also easy to be constructed. Then, taking the lateral location deviation minimizing to zero as the lateral control objective, a robust active disturbance rejection control path tracking controller is designed along with an extended state observer which can deal with the varying velocity and uncertain lateral disturbance effectively. Additionally, the feed for ward-feedback control method is adopted to control the total tire torque, which is distributed according to the steering characteristics of the vehicle for additional yaw moment to enhance vehicle handing stability. Finally, the robustness of the proposed controller is evaluated under velocity-varying condition and sudden lateral disturbance. The single-lane change maneuver and double-lane change maneuver under vary longitudinal velocity and different road adhesions are both simulated. The simulation results based on Matlab/Simulink show that the proposed controller can accurately observe the external disturbances and have good performance in trajectory tracking and handing stability. The maximum lateral error reduces by 0.18 meters compared with a vehicle that controlled by a feedback-feedforward path tracking controller in the single-lane change maneuver. The lateral deviation is still very small even in the double lane change case of abrupt curvature. It should be noted that our proposed control algorithm is simple and robust, thus provide great potential for engineering application.

This paper proposed an I/Q imbalance compensation algorithm based on neural networks, suitable for low-IF receivers. First, the low-IF receiver architecture and the phenomena of I/Q imbalance (also referred as image interference) are described. The standard solution - using a complex LMS adaptive filter, which separates the desired, and image signals - is limited in that the recovered signal remains affected by the I/Q imbalance; the filter proposed here corrects this drawback. The functionality, convergence and stability of the neural network based filter are demonstrated through extensive computer simulations. A sizing example is also given - deduction of the number of sample necessary in order to achieve a -60 dB image rejection - along with the time domain behaviour of the resulting neural network.

The tumor associated antigen RCAS1 (receptor-binding cancer antigen expressed on SiSo cells) expressed with high frequency in various cancer and trophoblast cells, inhibits growth of estrogen receptor-expressing cells and induces apoptosis. Because previous reports demonstrated RCAS1 presence only by non-quantitative immunocytochemistry methods, we decided to use a Western blotting with anti-RCAS1 monoclonal antibodies for estimation of the relative content of the tumor-associated antigen. One hundred tissue samples were assayed (neoplasms, chronic inflammatory diseases, healthy tissues, trophoblasts and placentas at term). RCAS1 was present in all neoplastic, placental and trophoblast tissue samples and its level in malignant samples was statistically significantly higher than in benign neoplasms. The amount of RCAS1 in chronic inflammations was also significantly increased in immune mediated diseases, like allergic nasal polyps and sarcoidosis. The RCAS1 protein was not revealed in healthy mucous membrane and in muscle tissues. The presented results suggest that RCAS1 might play an important role in tumor escape from host immunological surveillance and carry weight in the down regulation of the maternal immune response, thereby maintaining pregnancy.

Opis:
Disturbance rejection performance optimization with constraints on robustness for a multivariable process is commonly encountered in industrial control applications. This paper presents the tuning of a multi-loop Proportional Integral (PI) controller method to enhance the performance of load disturbance rejection using evolutionary optimization. The proposed design methodology is formulated to minimize the load disturbance rejection response and the input control energy under the constraints of robust stability. The minimum singular value of multiplicative uncertainty is considered a multi-loop system robust stability indicator. Optimization is performed to achieve the same, or higher level than the most-explored Direct Synthesis (DS) based multi-loop PI controller, which is derived from a conventional criterion. Simulation analysis clearly proved that the proposed multi-loop PI controller tuning method gives better disturbance rejection, and either, the same or a higher level of robust stability when compared to the DS-based multi-loop PI controller.

We consider the problem of designing a feedback control law in order to reject the unknown bounded disturbance and achieve tracking of reference inputs in control systems described by a class of nonlinear time-delay differential-algebraic equations. Based on the input-output feedback linearization technique and Lya-pimov method for nonlinear state feedback synthesis, a robust globally asymptotical output tracking controller design methodology for nonlinear time-delay control systems with delays on the states and the input is developed. The underlying theoretical approaches are the differential geometry approach and the composite Lyapunov approach. For the view of practical application, the proposed control methodology has been successfully applied to the famous nonlinear automobile idle-speed control system problem.

This paper investigates the concentration, distribution, and rejection of hazardous air pollutants, specifically identified by the US Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990, based on commercial coal preparation plant data obtained on-site. The samples were collected from the products of the different cleaning circuits of the operating plant. The concentrations of twelve potentially hazardous trace elements, including As, Cd, Co, Cr, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, Th and U in those samples were determined. Compared with the average concentration of the trace elements in Turkish coals, the run-of-mine coal fed to the existing plant appears to contain higher concentrations of Cd, Hg, Mn, Th and V. However, the concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Mn, Se, Th, U and V of the run-of-mine coal are above the world averages. Cd, Cr, Hg, Mn, Pb and Th concentrations of run-of-mine coal were easily removed at commercial coal preparation plant refuse in the range of 51.8% to 77.4 %, while only a small reduction was achieved for U and V as they were concentrated in clean coals. The present study reveals that conventional coal preparation technologies could significantly reduce hazardous air pollutants concentrations in coal.

The goal of the research conducted in school year 2014/2015 among young primary school children and their parents was to collect information about reasons of peer rejection and to learn how to support the ones being rejected. Escaping being labelled as a rejected child is very hard, especially if this situation goes on for a long time. It requires exceptional effort and particularly favourable changes in a group. It is possible only through special educational interventions (Urban, 2012) and high engagement of parents.
