Opis:
Determining the course of a railway track axis using satellite methods relies on ensuring the precise assembly of GNSS receivers in dedicated measuring devices. Depending on the number of receivers, solutions that are based on placing the apparatus directly above the railway track axis (as well as in eccentric positions) are used to indirectly obtain data to form the basis of the desired results. This publication describes the installation of five GNSS receivers on a mobile measuring platform as part of the InnoSatTrack project. The methodology and the procedure of the geodetic measurements required to obtain the geometrical configuration of the measuring apparatus, specified in the technical project, are presented. The publication presents the principles of total station measurement methods as well as the steps taken to achieve precise results from staking out. The process of acquiring the same configuration of the GNSS receivers, based on the geometry of the squares on the two measuring platforms that were used in the research, has been shown. The final determination of the position of the receivers did not exceed an error of 0.010 m with an average error of 0.003 m, despite the occurrence of mounting difficulties. The results have demonstrated the high credibility and effectiveness of the presented solution.

This article describes the analysis of measurements of track irregularities for a selected section of a modernized railway track. The paper presents changes of selected irregularities resulting from the traffic load levels on the track section. The authors focused on analysing results of track geometry measurements and analysing waves of track lateral and vertical irregularities. Measurements of track irregularities were performed at the same track section by indirect and direct methods.

Dynamic behavior of a track-train system is a function of axle loads and support stiffness because of non-linear supports. Therefore, it is expected that the support stiffness affects the behavior of the railway track during passing of a light or heavy car body. Since the effects of axle loads caused by light and heavy railway vehicles and support stiffness of ballasted railway tracks due to passing railway vehicles have not been studied adequately, therefore the present study focused on this issue. For this purpose, this issue was first investigated by passing a light and heavy car body including bogies with three axle loads as field tests. Then, numerical analyses of the railway track caused by the passing of these railway vehicles were studied, and the numerical results were compared with the field results. There was a good agreement between the values of field responses and numerical analyses. Subsequently, a series of sensitivity analyses on effects of the axle loads caused by light or heavy loading and support conditions was done on the ballasted railway track. The results indicated that the maximum vertical displacements increased by axle loads, increased sleeper distances and decreases support stiffness. Finally, equations of track behavior based on support stiffness and axle loads were derived.

The paper presents algorithms for the preprocessing of the visual method of detecting damages of concrete railway sleepers. It starts with acquiring images of the surface of the sleepers, by selecting the recorded frames of the images. Then, the color image is transformed into monochrome, so as to obtain the highest contrast possible. The Kanan and Cottrell algorithms were used for this purpose. A simple way is to segment the damage images of the sleepers, by thresholding, in order to binarize them. However, more elaborate algorithms are recommended. For this purpose, images are denoted using a median filter and further morphological operations to extract the edge of damage. For this purpose, noise is removed from images using a median filter, and morphological operations are carried out, to extract the edge of damage. In addition, texture images of the surface of the sleepers are used, removing them from the visual content. As the criterion for selecting the preprocessing algorithm, the shape of the image histogram and its standard deviation were assumed. Such prepared images form the basis for further assessment of the size of damages (cracks and voids) and classification of concrete sleepers.

Manus-only and manus-dominated trackways of sauropods previously reported from the Iouaridene Basin of Morocco are relocated and re-examined. One trackway, interpreted as a manus-only trackway, was a misinterpretation of a poorly preserved trackway of a large theropod that walked in the opposite direction to that previously inferred. Two previously described manus-dominated trackways could be underprints. One previously described manus-only trackway and a newly discovered manus-only trackway could also be underprints. However, if the true im printing surface is not identified, an "underprint origin" cannot be accepted as firm evidence that the were imprinted on land, and a swimming or submerged sauropod might have left similar underprints under the contact layer. Kinematic investigations might help to reconstruct the origin of the trackway. The two manus-only trackways from the Iouaridene tracksite apparently show alternating pace lengths which suggests semi-galloping to galloping gait patterns by the trackmakers. Such a galloping gait pattern has never been reported from regular sauropod trackways, and it is unclear as to whether such a trackway pattern repre sents rapid locomotion. A partly submerged sauropod could perhaps register such galloping gait manus-only trackway patterns as a result of swimming behavior.

The interest in bike transport in Polish cities and towns has been growing systematically in the recent years. A great number of local authorities take various actions to support the development of cycling systems. They make an effort to develop a cycling infrastructure – bike lanes, Bike&Ride type of parking, bike stands and advanced stop lines. An increased interest in bike-sharing systems is visible as well. Apart from that, the authorities implement policies and take other actions which make cycling in a city more convenient. The aim of the article is to characterize the experience of Polish cities in the area of bike transport support, with a special attention to bike-sharing systems. The article presents a comparison of 38 city bike systems. In addition, the Wavelo system in Kraków was studied in detail. Wavelo city bike system is very popular among citizens of Kraków. Despite relatively high prices and the lack of free minutes, the number of system users is growing. A large number of docking stations and their locations make bikes more accessible to citizens. Moreover, Kraków's authorities take action to develop a proper bike infrastructure which increases the interest in cycling as a transportation system. Selected methods of constructing special inserts in the transition zones between the embankment of the railway track and the engineering object (bridge, viaduct, or culvert) were discussed. The purpose of mounting the designed inserts is to eliminate the so-called threshold effect, i.e. continuously creating a mild change in the stiffness of the ground under the track. In addition to the solutions presented in practice, attention was also paid to projects developed by the authors of this article. The results of experimental research constituting the basis for the development of some solutions are also given.

The paper deals with the still unexplained issue of the choice of chord length, which will be the most benefi cial when determining the horizontal curvature of railway track with the use of the moving chord method. In the railway track – with an incorrect choice of the chord length – the horizontal track deformations and coordinate measurement error may cause irregular curvature diagrams, which will be difficult to interpret. The study analysed three test geometric layouts adapted to the speeds of 80 km/h, 120 km/h and 160 km/h (the radii of circular curves determined as a result of the curvature estimation performed were approximately 410 m, 880 m and 1480 m, respectively). The lengths of the moving chord in the range of 10÷50 m were considered. On the basis of the conducted analysis, it was unequivocally demonstrated that the chord length used to determine the curvature in the railway track should depend on the value of the radius of the circular curve. Approximate lengths lc were proposed depending on the range of the RCA radius. The adaptation of the moving chord method to the adopted measurement procedure presented in this paper and the way of using the obtained curvature diagram, provide the appropriate application basics.

A number of physical methods are used to survey railway track ballast to assess its degradation as a function of deposition. Simulation tests on track models are also conducted. These testing methods, which are generally labour-intensive and expensive, provide an accurate understanding of the extent of ballast degradation. However, the impact of inadequate maintenance can be observed, even on the surface. Therefore, it seems natural in this case to use image registration. State-of-the-art machine vision systems of track geometry cars provide the means to do this. Obtained ballast images provide a baseline for evaluating its level in relation to sleepers. However, no information is available on other signs of track degradation, such as overgrown vegetation (weeds) or the so-called local muddy areas, which are generally a consequence of poor drainage and a lack of subgrade insulation. These degradations are observed to generate distinctive colour images that are superimposed on the overall image of the ballast surface. They differ in colour and shape. Hence, the authors used this phenomenon to develop an algorithm for the extraction of ballast degradation images based on RGB imaging. Surface descriptors have also been offered to assess these degradations. Extensive measurement material from the railway lines was used to conduct survey experiments based on the examples. The results clearly demonstrate the high success rate of the applied method.

To improve the transport service of every country at the required level, it is necessary to set up appropriate infrastructure, including railways, and the necessary facilities of satisfactory quality. After the establishment of the Slovak Railways (ŽSR), the condition of the railway infrastructure was judged to be unsatisfactory. This situation urgently required optimisation of track sections, which are included in the trans-European corridors. The basic aim of optimisation of the railway network of ŽSR is to build a highquality, safe and reliable railway, which, due to its excellent quality, will correspond to the standards of advanced European countries and, at the same time, provide interoperability. Due to this, it was necessary to verify the fulfilment of the prescribed quality parameters on the optimised lines, among others, and also bear the capacity of individual structural parts of the sub-ballast layers. To address this aim, this paper deals with optimised corridor no. Va in the Považská Teplá - Žilina section, where the diagnostics of the quality of the sub-ballast layers was conducted. This paper specifically focuses on the evaluation of the determined values of the bearing capacity of the construction layers of the embankments and their foundations as well as the transition areas between the objects of sub-ballast layers and embankments located in the optimised section of the line.
