Opis:
The aim of the research is to confirm whether “God’s Not Dead” (2016) production is an adequate portrayal of religious liberty of school officials in present-day K-12 schools in the United States. The author limited the discussion to the essential problem questions inspired by the production, such as teachers’ right to express their religious views both in the formal setting of a class discussion, and out-of-class informal exchange with students and fellow faculty members. The problem was discussed against the backdrop of selected legal and legislative acts that determine the scope of teachers’ religious expression, such as selected courts’ decisions, official federal guidelines issued by the Department of Education as well as the guides published by non-government organizations. The results of the Bible Literacy Project as well as interviews with several school officials were utilized to further verify the basic concepts of the research. The source texts were analyzed using a close reading method. The study seems to prove that due to the complexity of the legal system as well as the discrepancy between the lines of decisions reached in lower courts it difficult to unambiguously assess the probability of the scenario featured in the movie. However, observable trends in case law and governmental control over teachers’ in-class speech appear to imply that the script is definitely accurate in its portrayal of a legal liability of teachers, and possibly less so in respect of the favorable outcome of the dispute.

Opis:
The presented study aimed at investigating the relationship between the extraversion level and speaking anxiety in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) context on the one hand, and testifying the relationship between the extraversion degree and speech fluency and speech accuracy, on the other hand. To this end, 60 advanced university students, including 12 males and 48 females, participated in the study at the quantitative phase, and 28 of them, including 14 from the extraversion levels, and 14 from the introversion levels, were observed on their oral performance at the qualitative phase. Based on Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation using SPSS in the quantitative section, the findings revealed a strong negative correlation between the extraversion level and public speaking anxiety, on the one hand, and a strong positive correlation between the extraversion degree and speech fluency in the qualitative phase, on the other hand. Speech accuracy revealed having no significant correlation with the extraversion degree. Indeed, extraversion and introversion seem to be the major personality differences that have attracted the attention of psycholinguists, in particular Dornyei (2005); henceforth, it would be worth clarifying the underlying characteristics of this construct to gain a more comprehensive view of these personality type indicators, respectively.

Opis:
The effect of the power amplifier on speech intelligibility in public address systems is often marginalised – i.e. it is assumed that it does not introduce significant signal distortion. This approach is justified when the linear range of the amplifier is used. The large crest factor of the speech signal and economic considerations mean that the amplifier also works in the non-linear range. In this paper, the effect of power amplifier distortion on the speech transmission index for public address systems (STIPA) is presented. In the first step, this influence was evaluated by measurements for Class AB and D amplifiers. Then, a computer model of the public address system based on the direct STIPA method, taking into account the non-linear properties of the amplifier, was proposed. Using the computer model, the optimum amplifier driving values were determined taking into account the reverberation time and interfering noise.speech transmission index; power amplifier; public address system.

Opis:
The subject of this article is the analysis of selected institutional activities, including drafts of legislative initiatives and social actions that took place between 2018 and 2020 at Polish universities (and outside of them). Its goal is to define what can be expressed, who is entitled to speak within the academic realm and what can be said by an academic teacher or scientist during a public debate. These social actions and legislative initiatives are discussed in the broader context of activities of social movements having a clear ideological face (either left- or right-wing), protests against lectures, debates organised at universities that were labelled as “ideological”, as well as projects intended to promote specific visions of academic freedom along with corresponding regulations for universities.

Opis:
Article presents the conclusions resulting from a qualitative analysis of speeches given by the Prime Ministers of Poland: Beata Szydło (2015) and Mateusz Morawiecki (2017). The aim of the study was to reconstruct the assumptions concerning public policy, including legal policy and issues related to the state system. The application of qualitative content analysis made it possible to determine, i.a. the main autotelic and instrumental values of the Polish legal system, as well as to identify the most important social objectives and ways of their implementation. The analysis of the speeches shows the dilemmas and challenges currently faced by decision-makers in Poland: political and social conflicts, legislative inflation, the need to increase efficiency in public governance, supporting social capital. The main instruments for achieving social goals are: adoption of legal acts (laws and regulations) and the use of economic incentives.
Artykuł przedstawienia wnioski z jakościowej analizy treści wystąpień premierów Pol- ski: Beaty Szydło (2015 r.) i Mateusza Morawieckiego (2017 r.). Analiza treści przemówień ukazuje także główne dylematy i wyzwania, jakie stoją aktualnie przed decydentami kształtującymi politykę publiczną i politykę prawa w Polsce: spory polityczne i światopoglądowe, inflacja prawa, konieczność podnoszenia skuteczności w zarządzaniu instytucjami publicznymi, wspieranie kapitału społecznego. Głównymi instrumentami osiągania celów społecznych są: przyjmowanie aktów prawnych (ustaw i rozporządzeń) oraz stosowanie bodźców ekonomicznych.

Opis:
Highpass filters are commonly used in the signal chain of public address systems. One of the reasons for using a highpass filter is to protect the loudspeaker from unwanted low-frequency signals. In addition, it can increase the intelligibility of speech. In this paper, the effect of the cutoff frequency and order of a highpass filter on the speech transmission index, the crest factor, and the sound level are presented. Analyses were performed for an ideal transmission channel, taking into account reverberation time, interfering noise, and high levels of sound. A computer model of the public address system developed by the author, based on the direct STIPA method, was used. This model enables analyses in the nonlinear range of power amplifier operation, which is often used in public address systems but is not considered in commercially available simulation programs.

Strategic Litigation Against Participation in Public Life
Opis:
The article asks the questions: – How far can the authorities interfere with freedom of speech/freedom of scientific research? By what means and how can one effectively defend oneself against direct and indirect interference and manipulation? – Can it be punished if someone considers the results of research to violate his or her personal rights (an open catalog: e.g. good name, cult of the deceased, or even “the right to national identity and pride”)? Is it then possible to demand withdrawal/correction of the scientist's findings or compensation? Today, threats to the freedom of scientific research are made not so much by censoring science as by threatening the autonomy of universities; controlling the conditions of doing science (its dissemination); discouraging certain topics; self-censorship caused by a chilling effect. This is dangerous in flawed democracies, where no attention is paid to pluralism in the exercise of freedom and to ensuring some minimum protection of minority interests and proclaimed views. And at the same time in poor countries, where little resources are allocated to science, which induces the phenomenon of “chasing away from the bowl” and “rewarding with a better bowl”. Money allocated to science is a very effective means of both promoting and eliminating views. The existence of this phenomenon increases the perceived threat to freedom, even without explicitly encroaching on it (the chilling effect). Freedom of speech, freedom of scientific research are exposed to a specific threat conducted on attacks and an attempt to limit or even eliminate them – paradoxically – in the name of allegedly threatened pluralism of ideas and views. In this situation, the attackers use the idea of protecting individual freedom for expansive purposes. Not in the name of freedom of expression of one's own axiology, but in the name of forbidding this expression to others

Cyberspace seems to be ubiquitous. It coexists with the real world and it constitutes its coded zero-one reflection. However, it deprives us of privacy, our constitutional right. Even more, the modern technology allows our fingerprint to be traced forever. Problems with maintaining online privacy in the face of the phenomenon of identity theft for criminal purposes, or the use of our data for property purposes in the broadly understood internet marketing.
